Look, we're going to be upfront with you here: 45 pages into this book there will be a werewolf with a gatling gun. We hope you're ready for that because it just gets weirder from there.
Across the country, someone is murdering journalists--or whatever you call the agent provocateurs who write clickbait listicles for BuzzWorthy News. The killer leaves no witnesses, no evidence, no sign he ever existed at all. The police say the deaths were accidental. There is no other possible explanation, but one Chicago writer has a suspect in mind: the notorious Kill Team One of modern folklore.
Upon hearing this appalling accusation, Sid Hansen flies into action to clear his name and bring the real killer to justice. No, not really. He actually just wants to keep nailing prostitutes, because that’s the special kind of asshole he is, but his friends coerce him into helping.
So Sid takes a trip to the Windy City, where he’ll have to contend with deadly mercenaries, transgender activism, snooty apparel shops, public transit, the alt-right, and what renowned French philosopher Jean-François Lyotard defined as an incredulity toward metanarratives. Sid only knows how to deal with one of the things on that list, and the last thing sounds like a lot of horseshit to him, but he has to do something or more innocent people are going to die--maybe a lot more. . .
This is the fourth book about Sid, aka Kill Team One, and this time he's being framed for murders he hasn't actually committed. So Sid goes looking for the culprit, and ends up protecting the assassin's target, a gender-neutral person who works for a Buzz-Feed style blog. Buzzworthy, has built a supercomputer, and is using it to influence the world via social media. The assassin is an entity from the future, trying to re-write history by killing them before history happens. Sid is his usual obnoxious self, causing death and destruction where ever he goes, while trying to bang whores, and find a way to kill the entity. It's full of satire aimed at the world as it is now, pointing out the power of social media and woke cancel culture. I look forward to the next book.
Over the top does not describe this series. Leon includes, probably, every trope, ever from the hard boiled action books and testosterone fueled action flicks of the 80's as well a lots of pop culture references, and mixed them into a twisted, dark humored, series. Now I must wait for the next installment. This series is not for everyone, but if you are a little sick, check it out.
Good read! love the humor and content. It makes me worry about my mental sanity the things I'm laughing at but I digress. This series is well written and a hidden gem.
This book was a bit different then previous but still a great read. Adrenaline filled action (with lots of running! you'll get the joke if you read it.) Slyly adding more to the Kill Team One Mythos and sinking hooks into you that make you want to learn more.
As usual with the series hilarious quips and banter go on which were my favorite parts of the book. A solid read.
So wrong! Oh, all the wrongs. But also ironic, witty, brutal, violent, fun and one hell of a ride. I was so pleasantly surprised that i read through the series in a week. There are subtle, or not so subtle hints scattered around the series that the author has studied some literary theory, and decided to give it the finger. Or the fist 😂 Not for the faint of heart.
