It's 1962. The prisons are overcrowded and it's about to become worse due to budget cuts. Cain Cardwell, the President of the United States, has a plan. Move the worst offenders on death row to a remote island. His closest confident, Jackson Draper, has doubts when he realizes that the president has an alternate agenda that is too sinister, even for a man as contemptible as Cain Cardwell. Now, he must risk his own life to stop the madman, in a race against time. The clock is ticking and every second counts... From the author of Splinter, and FLOAT comes a thriller packed with mystery, intrigue, and a twist!"Bussa forges new ground in a tale of espionage and political disdain. A race against time that will have you turning the final pages, non-stop!" -- Carolyn Freeman, Short Story Review

About the author

Michael Bussa

Michael Bussa grew up in Schiller Park, IL, a small suburb of Chicago. Having an inordinate love of aviation, as a child, he always believed he would grow up to become a pilot. "I was always fascinated with the idea that something that large could leave the ground so gracefully, and stay in the air," he says. "I mean, if I jumped off a cliff with my arms spread like a bird, I'd plummet to my death!"

His earliest work was a short story, written in the third grade, entitled, "Cars Can go One Hundred and Twenty." It was a hit with teachers and students, alike, and Michael was hooked on penning for entertainment. As an adult, he has found his niche writing short stories -- he writes them in a twisted way that would make even Hitchcock take notice!

Having read all of his other short stories I couldn't pass up a freebie!

If you know the works of Michael Bussa, I will tell you that this is a very different story than he usually writes. There are no ghosts, or bumps in the night. But we do have a despicable president, prisoners that have no idea what is about to happen to them, and the planes they are being transported on have been falling out of the sky! My official review:

"Bussa forges new ground in a tale of espionage and political disdain. A race against time that will have you turning the pages, non-stop!"

Michael Bussa does an amazing job at writing short stories. I have read several of them and always find the stories roam around in my mind long after the last page is closed. This tale is intriguing and I found the President, a man who demands loyalty and has a secret agenda, strangely familiar. However, this story takes place in the sixties, not the present, but no matter the timing, a wrong man elected will always happen. The premise of the story is interesting and one I am sure a lot of leaders have thought about. I would have liked this short story to be a bit longer because it feels more like a novel than the author's usual twisted ending stories, but that said, this is one to grab and savor.

Commander in Chief, gone mad!

This gripping short story will have readers intrigued right from the start. A tale of a president with his own nefarious agenda, and those close to him who are in wittingly sucked into his mad plan. In true Bussa style, you won’t connect all the dots until the very last paragraph.

I've read several stories by Michael Bussa and I've come to know his distinct style of no-nonsense, to-the-point storytelling. I don't know why he hasn't hit it big yet, he can weave a tale like a needle pulls thread!

In Jettison, Bussa is not afraid to step out of his safe zone. Most of his stories elude to some sort of horror or paranormal, if even in the slightest. Jettison is a straight-forward suspense thriller, set in the political realm. A rogue president, the introduction of a new commercial airliner that is plagued with accidents, and overcrowded prisons. You won't connect the dots to this one until the last page.

It can be hard to gauge a short story. This one is a long, short. I must say that I love the grit of politics so in the description I saw the president of the United States mentioned and that hooked me. Once I started reading, I saw that it was set in the early 1960's so I knew it wasn't our current political mess. I liked what Bussa did with this one. He took a debated topic (what do we do with overcrowded prisons?) and came up with a fascinating plot, and execution of the story. This one was intriguing and compelling - it left me thinking about it well into the next day.

Full of political drama and a president who seems to have no morals, this short story is full of tension.

At the end I was left feeling amazed, a bit shell shocked, and oddly satisfied. I enjoyed it from beginning to the end, I was intrigued and horrified. Highly recommended.

The character voices are well done and the pacing of the narration helps to build to the drama of the story.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Cool political thriller!
Very gripping, was captivated from beginning to end. Short/easy listen, but jam packed with Bussa awesomeness. What IF that were to happen? Would it work? A deadly game to play!

Great listen, definitely recommended :)
