This was a very good story. I liked Mickey very much. I liked Kerrick too he was frustrating at times. This is the first story I've read by this author and I liked ti well enough that I think I'll try more of her work.
Mickey is an ex-con that's not really a criminal. Mickey was raised by a single father and grew up without a woman in her life. Her first boyfriend was a guy that her father had hired to run the ranch and approved of. After Mickey's father died, things went to crap and the boyfriend became abusive and did some things that caused Mickey to retaliate and since he had a relative in the justice system, she got railroaded into jail.
Kerrick is a detective in a local police department and a good guy. Kerrick was married but his wife did a number on him before she divorced him, convincing him that he was married to his job and wouldn't be good in any relationship. Since then, Kerrick hasn't had an interest in women, especially women he might end up in a relationship with.
Mickey is let out of prison and has no one is waiting for her. The payphone outside the jail is broken so she doesn't have much choice other than to walk. Thankfully, someone pulls over to give her a ride and that someone ends up being Kerrick. Kerrick saw her leave the prison so he knows she's an ex-con but he feels drawn to her and wants (aka needs) to help her. He offers her a ride home and a stop at the store and Mickey accepts, gratefully if a bit leerily. Mickey had some savings that should have kept her cattle ranch running while she was in prison for a year but she soon found out that while she still had the ranch, most everything else had gone to crap while she was gone.
Kerrick is determined to help Mickey get back on her feet. There's a strong mutual attraction between them but Kerrick keeps telling Mickey that he's no good for her or relationships. The problem is that Kerrick can't seem to keep himself in line with what he says and tends to run hot and cold. Mickey is able to figure things out with her ranch and make some changes that will enable her to keep it running but her Ex does make himself known and causes some trouble. Kerrick is determined to protect Mickey from her Ex while also protecting her from Kerrick himself. Kerrick's wishy washy behavior was rather frustrating but it does finally get resolved and the story ends with Kerrick and Mickey together and heading towards what seems to be a HEA.
This was a very enjoyable story. I liked Mickey very much and thought she was a pretty well rounded and good heroine. Kerrick was a good hero outside of his inability to come to terms with his emotional issues that caused him to run hot and cold. I could understand them but he did let things go too long before pulling his head out of his nether regions...and yet I still liked him. Once Mickey and Kerrick worked things out, I thought they made a great couple. Overall, I liked the characters and story very much and found the story engaging so I'd recommend it. :)
But good.....I really didn’t get from the blurb what the book really was. It was better. We meet our Irish American Detective Kerrick & our h right away. He picks her up from the side of the road headed toward her ranch after prison for battery on her ex right away and we’re off & running.
Mickey is a strong h. I’m not always crazy about those, but it really worked here. The author added some nice soft touches & I got on board with her character pretty fast. She was pretty much framed by a lousy ex & sent up for a year.
Our Detective is from a horse breeding family. Divorced, because she couldn’t take his job & shy and unsure because of love because he’s married to the job. They immediately click. She needs a hero, and he is one. Most of it is truly his struggle to give love again & hers to rebuild her life and family ranch. The 2 combined worked.
I love the supporting characters that get brought in, the family bldg that emerges because of Kerrick. I love that future stories are set up. I really enjoyed the setting. The ranch, the horses. The small town. Great start, I’ll read the series. Recommend.
“She attacked the burden of putting her house back together with the determination of a toothless man committed to eating a steak.”
“Could it be possible Kerrick McKinley like me? If so, I felt grateful for his lack of good judgement.”
“I want to kiss you in front of the world and let every ogling man know you’re off limits, especially Roland. You may think of him like a brother, but I see him look at you and I don’t like it. If he’s a brother, then he’s an incestuous little bastard.”
“Look at me…. I want to see the passion in your eyes. I want to look into your soul and know that I’ve touched it deeply.”
“I realized I was offered an encore performance in my life, and I intended to earn a standing ovation for my future efforts.”
My Review:
An impulsive ex-con with a history of poor choices is not an uncommon choice for a main character, but it is when the ex-con is a woman. I was intrigued by the story line of Set Free and enjoyed the odd juxtaposition of the characters. I always enjoy Ms. Collins clever humor and amusing metaphors. She has a knack for steamy romances with an underlying and unexpected sweetness to her interesting yet deeply flawed characters. They are typically common, relevant, complicated, and captivating. I find her writing to be smart and insightful, as well as entertaining. The protagonists in this story were instantly attracted yet wary of each other, but their passion, chemistry, and years of forced celibacy were a combustible combination that was too hard to fight back. More please.
This is the 1st book in this series and I have to say it is a brilliant story to kick this series off with.
Kerrick and Mickey are not who you would pick as an ideal couple. He Is a detective and she is an ex-con. When they first meet the sparks ignite immediately and they soon learn there is no point fighting it. They have both have baggage & it’s not the light kind either. They have huge obstacles to get through before they can have any kind of proper relationship and they both need to decide if it worth the fight.
This author has a way of writing that shines a light on even the darkest of times. Her characters are complex and her story telling is amazing. At the beginning of this story Mickey is in a vulnerable position and feels as if there is no hope. Kerrick is in a slump. He loves his job but doesn’t feel he is worthy of a loving relationship. As the story progresses, you see Mickey come right out of her shell and learn that she is capable of making something of her life and she has the power to stand up for herself and also that she deserves good things to happen to her. Kerrick slowly learns that not all women will resent his job and he actually has a lot to offer the right woman. By the time you get to the end of the story the characters have evolved and grown into their relationship.
What I like about Mickey and Kerrick is that even though together they sizzle, they became friends before they started any kind of relationship. They were both in a Position where they needed a good friend so that part of their relationship kind of developed first and this is a great foundation to build a romantic relationship on. They are also both really nice people. They are kind hearted & giving & would do anything to help anyone in need. They find not only friendship in each other but also family. They give each other a much needed sense of belonging. Their relationship is beautiful to watch develop & evolve.
There is an element of danger and suspense in this book & at times I feared for Mickeys safety. Their story is written in a realistic way that has you able to picture what Is happening in your mind and has you not wanting to put the book down right until the end.
I was hooked from start to finish & recommend everyone gets their one click finger out for this one!!
Thank you to Kelly Collins for the free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
After spending time in prison Mickey Mercer is released, leaves the jail behind her and starts walking since nobody is there to meet her. Tired and hot she gets into Kerrick McKinley’s truck only to find out he is a detective on the police force. By the time she gets home she realizes all of her assumptions about returning home, her ranch, her bank account and her life are completely different than expected. She is strong and willing to make changes but still has to contend with a scumbag abusive ex-boyfriend.
This is a wonderful story of a strong woman with great female friends made in prison that will star in their own stories in this series. It is also the story of Mickey creating the future she wants and deserves - I loved the fact that no matter what hurdle Mickey faces she has the guts and gumption to find a way over it and to move on. I found Kerrick a bit weaker than Mickey but a good guy for her once he began to get over his past hurts. In addition to Kerrick there are at least three men introduced in this book that no doubt will be snapping up Mickey’s women friends when they are free women again.
Great story – looking forward to reading Set Aside as soon as I can!
This is a book about starting over after making a bad decision she is getting out of prison. With no one there to pick her up she starts walking being picked up by cowboy who she finds out is a detective. Both of these characters are carrying baggy they will have to deal with before they can move on. Mickey gets home and nothing is as it should be now she must find away to save her ranch. Kerrick is one hot little cowboy who is trying to help Mickey. There were times I was thinking will Mickey make it out of this alive.
I really liked these two characters as the author weaves their story through some twists and turns full of suspense. It is easy to understand why Mickey was in an abusive relationship once you know her past. My heart really went out to her and all she had to deal with. Kerrick was just a sweetheart he might be alpha but he is kind, caring and strong just the kind of man you want on your side when life gets tough. They both would help anyone who needed it, sweet, kind, loving and caring who has trust issues.
I liked how the author started their relationship out as friends even through the chemistry is there they took it nice and slow. I loved this plot the author shows how easy it is to get into an abusive relationship and just how hard it is to get out of it. She gives you wonderful characters with a few twists you won’t see coming. This was a story I could not put down from the thrill, suspense and romance the author had me hooked from the first page. ***************************
I wasn't sure wether I would like this book or not, but boy was I hooked on the story and all the others that will follow. Being a women just getting out of jail sure does put a different perspective on life. Mickey's life on the ranch has always provided her with a sense of home until the day she was arrested defending her self from an abusive boyfriend. Being free not only meant she had to start her life again, she had to go back to a home that was literally taken away from her. Nothing would come easy trying to take control of her life and her families legacy. Finding love along the way when she least expected makes this story so much more intriguing. Those McKinley men sure do put a smile on your face while reading, being all possessive and manly in every way. Loved it!!!
I have been lucky enough to receive an arc of Kelly's latest novel, and it was absolutely fabulous. Kelly Collins creates characters who maybe slightly flawed, but makes the readers care and fall in love with them.I loved the premise of the story, the characters - Mickey the feisty heroine trying to rebuild her life after being released from jail who still retains her belief in love, and Kerrick the unlucky in love hero. Kelly creates intrigue and a great plot, as well as delivering the perfect ending. Can't wait for the next book in the series.
A great story of a prisoner who becomes the person she would have been before she was sent to prison. Finds the love of her life in the form of the detective who picks her up on the road as she leaves prison.
Beautiful story of a dysfunctional relationship, to prison and to a life of love. Abandoned by her mother, father's death and a will that out her in danger,
I want to thank author Kelly Collins for allowing me a copy of Set Free to read in exchange for an honest review.
Now, here is what we have. An ex-con, a describe and a rodeo rider walk into a bar... no wait, wrong place for that.. but we do have an ex-con, Mickey, who went to jail for a year after she sliced the tires on her now exes tires when she found him riding some bimbo on the hood of his car in HER front yard. Best be glad that's all she sliced. Ya know?
Why did she do it? You mean besides he's a C U Next Tuesday? Well he'd already used her as a punching bag. What did she have to lose? Nothing at the time but in the end thanks to crappy cops and knowing the right people she was the one in cuffs and in jail. She lost a year of her life but the one thing she learned over that year in prison was "Don't back done!"
When she gets out of jail the only thing she can do is start walking. What she doesn't expect is to be "picked up" by a stranger. Not just any stranger, a police detective. A very hot, muscled detective who happens to be a cowboy... (Drools) You know the kind. The ones that can fill out their Levi's... (Waggles brows)
When Kerrick finds out her circumstances he steps in to help. Making sure Mickey steps up and doesn't let the negative take her over. She has to focus on herself and getting her ranch, her legacy back up and running. She needs that to focus on and she needs the money. Can't live on looks alone, ya know?
Mickey and Kerrick are a pair. Made of strangers but grow in a lust filled haze that grows into more. But that doesn't mean it's easy. Not by a long shot. Kerrick calls in two of his brothers to help Mickey out. They're both real horseman and with the help of McKinley brothers, her friend and the ranches veterinarian they have a growing new horse ranch, money coming in and a bright future ahead of them... until something happens that turns Mickey and Kerrick inside out. The struggle to overcome the hard times is what saves them all. Winning a battle that could break you only makes you stronger.
>This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review. I am an independent reviewer. This book is the first story in the Second Chance series and ends in an HEA.
>Mickey was a ranch girl raised with all men in a harsh environment. She wasn't used to being treated like a princess. Her background explains why she accepts an abusive relationship with her father's ranch foreman, Morgan. Beaten to a pulp, Mickey slashes Morgan's tires and somehow is the one sent to prison. Returning home after her year in prison, Mickey catches a ride with Kerrick, a stranger to her, but a protective one.
>Kerrick falls for Mickey fast. He is a detective and divorced. Both issues cause him to hold back from Mickey. The tension between the two was intense, but the push and pull, will they or won't they was exhausting. Kerrick was a great alpha male. He was thoughtful, kind and dominating. Mickey started out kind of Luke warm, but as she gained her self esteem back, she was worthy of Kerrick. I especially enjoyed Kerrick's brothers. I would have liked a few more scenes getting to know them, even though I suspect we will see them in future books. I felt I knew more about the skanky cashier than the brothers.
>I did not like the story line involving Mr. Darcy. I won't reveal any spoilers, just stating my opinion. Other than that small part, I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The characters sucked you in quickly and there was enough suspense and action to keep the pages turning or swiping, if you have an e reader. There was a bit a humor, especially in how Mickey described her cell mates to Kerrick. This book is appropriate for an adult audience due to sexual situations. I am giving this book 4 stars.
Reviewed on behalf of 2 girls who love books blog Set free by Kelly Collins This is the first in the second chance series but is a standalone and there isn’t a cliff hanger at the end. We start this story with a young girl just of prison and trying to get herself home to her ranch that has been left in the untrusting hands of her ex. She has a long walk ahead of her and is picked up and given a lift home by a detective. On getting home her house is trashed cattle and horses gone and money from her accounts vanished. The detective decides he needs to still around to her re settle but is that all of his intentions? While Mickey struggles to readjust back to life she also needs to figure a way to save the ranch that has been in her family for years. We learnt about the nature of Mickeys relationship with her ex Morgan who hasn’t been seen since she retuned but it doesn’t remain that way he comes back to try and control her again and tries to force her to sell her beloved ranch. Kerrick has come from a bad break up and doesn’t feel he deserves to be loved can Mickey Change all that? Kerrick helps see her ranches potential and helps her to reinvent the ranch but of course all is not plain sailing there are trials and plot twists along the way. I loved this story it sucks you in and won’t let you go you just have to keep reading until its finished and then you want more. I’m sure there characters will be mentioned in future books through this series and im quite excited to read the next book which is set for release in January. The writing is good with a delicious flow and isn’t without its hot steamy scenes. The characters are real (no billionaires here!) and because of this it is very relatable to. I rate this story 4 stars
Set Free by Kelly Collins This is the 1rst book in the series The Second Chance Series. There is one ex-convict, one detective and one ranch. One tremendous and well written story and cannot wait for the 2nd book of this series. Mickey Mercer is only 24 yrs. Old, she is getting out of the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility and going back to pick up the pieces of her life. She made friends in there that have taught her how to stand up for what she believes in and not fall into the wrong patterns of life. She does not know how she is going to get back to her ranch but her luck was with her that day. Detective McKinley happened to be driving down the road while she was walking down that same road. He picked her up and he learned again how to fall in love and trust in people. Before this work consumed him and he lost his wife because of it. Mickey’s problem was she had fall for a ranch hand named Morgan that her father believed in and now gets the rude awakening of what is left of her family ranch thanks to that ranch hand who was made foreman by her dad. Her father died and left her the family ranch but also to the ranch foreman. Mickey could not believe what she found when she reached that ranch. Morgan had sold off all the cattle, went through all of the ranch’s money and came back to make Mickey pay. Thank goodness Mickey had Detective Kerrick McKinley on her side. He helped her in more ways than on and proved to be someone Mickey could believe in. You won’t be sorry you started to read Set Free and you will wish the second book in the series has already come out. It is very well written by Kelly Collins.
Out of jail, but free? I loved this book, I love the spunk of Mickey, not wanting to let herself when all things around her is crumbling. She’s free from jail, but jail stays a bit in her. She tries with all her might to build her life again and with the help and their mutual desire she manages, just. I admired the way Kelly Collins wrote her – a fire within her of passion and true feelings of friendship for the friends she left behind in jail. I liked the rawness of the descriptions of people, places and things, all the things which mattered – all this came true in this wonderful book of Second Chances. When twenty-four-year-old Mickey Mercer walks out of the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility, she has two things on her mind: the friends she left behind and the rough road ahead. All she has in the outside world are a vengeful ex, a run-down ranch, a pickup truck ... and an unlikely ally—the cop who gives her a ride home. Kerrick is bossy and irritating. He’s also a big, sexy hunk of distraction. She’s torn between sending him on his way and giving in to the desire sizzling between them. Detective Kerrick McKinley’s job is to protect and serve. The job consumes his life, until he gives a pretty, prickly ex-con a ride on a dusty road. But when they discover something is wrong out on Mickey’s ranch, Kerrick must either steer clear, or stand between her and the danger that prowls her range. She may be out of prison, but she’s still in trouble … too bad there’s nothing sexier than trouble in tight blue jeans. This unlikely couple must look deeper to learn that sometimes people aren’t what they seem. Sometimes they’re better.
A brief glimpse into the lives of women who are imprisoned for the things their men did or made them do. Even though they knew it was they still committed the acts were caught and went to jail. Can we call it misplaced love or mental abuse or physical abuse? Whichever you choose the women in this faced prison but the persons on the outside threw their relationships under the bus. You will meet "CHEATERS, DOMESTIC ABUSE while reading this story. Very sad and you will ascertain that these women self esteem, self worth was beaten out of them. These women knew better, but they didn't want to lose the men, so they put up with the abuse. Some would say he cares for me that's why "HE" slaps me around or you'll read about the incident of this guy Morgan who had beat Mickey mercilessly and then decide to go and get his other girlfriend bring her out to the ranch have sex on top of a truck in front of Mickey...no shame..horrible. Read this story because this is happening all over the world. Women facing "DOMESTIC ABUSE" and they hide/keep quiet about what's happening to them. Afraid to go to authorities for fear that this will make the abuse worse. Sometimes it does and they either kill their abuser or fight back and they are arrested because the abusive partner presses charges and the abuse women goes to jail..the abusive men don't mind pressing charges against the abused women, but women won't press charges for many reasons, mainly these men are the breadwinners. I say stand up for your "RIGHTS."
This is my first book by Ms. Collins and I enjoyed it immensely. Never having read this particular series I did not know what to expect. My thought that this book was going to be about surviving death or a bad situation, it was nothing of the kind.
In Set Free you have a young woman getting out of prison after a year thinking that not much in her life is going to change. She ended up going to prison over her own actions and the lie of another.
Mickey has always had a man taking care of her even when it was not always in her best interest. She made decisions by the seat of her pants without questioning things to deeply and this lands her in dire straight once she is out of prison.
In prison she became friends with a group of women who helped her grow in the year she was incarcerated. These women became like her sisters and she can’t wait for them to get release.
Upon release and having no way home she meets Kerrick. Will he be her right know man or her future? He will play an important part in the choices she makes about her future.
She will have to reconcile her past before she can truly embrace her future. This book was well worth reading and I look forward to the next book in the series “Set Aside”.
Michelle "Mickey" Mercer has just gotten out of the Denver Women's Correctional Facility, after spending the last year in jail. She is looking forward to getting back to her ranch and getting her life back together. Yet no one is there to pick her up when she gets out and she begins the long walk home.
Detective Kerrick McKinley picks Mickey up and instantly feels the need to protect her from everything that is going wrong in her life. Yet, he does not want a relationship with her due to his fear of relationships.
The two form a hot and cold friendship that neither really want to give up. Kerrick does all he can to help Mickey get her life back, and get rid of her ex-boyfriend Morgan who ended up putting her in jail in the first place. When Kerrick isn't there when Mickey needs him will he blame himself and ruin everything they have worked so hard to attain?
I loved the relationship, or lack of, between Kerrick and Mickey. It is so important to realize the amount of damage verbal abuse can do on a person, even if they have no idea they are really receiving it. This book had intensity, loyalty and some twists you never saw coming. I also loved that the book was a totally unique idea!
What a terrific fast read. Two great strong characters who are head strong. One is in the process of putting their life back together while the other is running from commitment. You wouldnt think it wouldn't work but it does. Mickey is an ex con who is just released from prison. She leaves her friends behind and comes home to a falling ranch, courtesy of her ex. She meets Detective McKinley while she is walking home after her release.
Mickey is a very strong woman who is determined to get her life back together on the ranch. She enjoys the friendship with the detective. But she is soon to realize that he is afraid of commitment. But she knows that she deserves a man like McKinley and doesnt stop until she gets what she wants, him.
McKinley is scarred from all relationships..He is married to his job. A job that played a part in his failing in his last marriage. He is quick to realize that Mickey isn't like all the other females. He is strong, loving, caring and cares deeply for the Mickey.
The two characters hold a lot of baggage between the two. Some more so than the other. Is the baggage to much for them to hold together?
4 for a wonderful romance about second chances in life..
Seriously could not put this book down!! WOW.. This is my first Kelly Collins read and I know for a fact I will be reading more. From page one i was so engrossed I couldn't stop reading.
Mickey has just been release from the Women’s Correctional Facility after being locked up for a year. He main concern now is getting back to her ranch and moving forward all while missing the friends she had made will inside. Never did she expect to meet Detective Kerrick McKinley but there was an immediate attraction to him. Or was it because she has gone more than a year without the touch of a man?
Detective McKinley.. well hell all the McKinley brothers are a sight for sore eyes that would melt your panties. But Kerrick hes been burned in the past but when he sees Mickey he has a sense to protect her. After the first day he doesnt want to let her go but he doesnt know how to get close to her because of his past.
These two had my head spinning with the back and forth. Mickey didnt have an easy life either. Shes always had men run her life. Her father, the ranch hands, as well as her ex Morgan. Shes one strong biotch after going through all that she has.
This is a must read book cant wait to read more of the McKinley brothers.
** Received and Advanced Copy for an honest review **
Kelly has once again given us a book boyfriend to fall in love with. From the moment you open this book to the end you will be wanting more of Kerrick and Mickey or maybe one of his sexy as sin brothers. I love how this story is set on a ranch and how this author has made you feel as you are there with Mickey as she makes every life decision of the ranch. I fell hard for Kerrick and his demanding ways. Who wouldn't want a hot, sexy as sin cowboy/detective?
Mickey made one bad decision and landed a year in prison. When she get out she is met with no way home! As she starts walking home, a hot a sin detective offers her a ride to the ranch. What greets them is not what Mickey thought would happen. With her life in shambles can she figure a way to save the ranch before its to late? And what happens when the sexy detective offers some help? Will these two just scratch a itch or will something more happen?
So if you want a sexy a sin cowboy/detective, with a side of Hotness, then this is your next read.
Kelly you have given us a beautifully written book and I can't wait to read what happens in the next Second Chance Series.
I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange of a honest review.
Book was giving in exchange for an honest review through 2 Girls Who Love Books Blog!
First things first I loved the cover of this book! Set free is the start up to what promises to be a great series set on the M and M Ranch!
The book hooked me right away and I loved it! The characters were well written. And this book has an amazingly strong female character.
Mickey is walking down the road after doing her time in prison. She is certain no one will pick her up as she stares at a do not pick up hitch hiker prison release area signs. So imagine her surprise when a very handsome man does stop and offers her a ride.
Detective Kerrick is leaving the prison in between interviews when he sees Mickey making the just realsed hike home and decides to give her a lift.
What an unlikely couple they make! But somehow it works in a fantastic way. Mickey struggles to pull her ranch back together after her ex has ran it into the ground while she was locked up. With the help of Kerrick and his brothers we will see a few great love stories along the way! I am already eagerly waiting book 2 in the second chances series. 5 stars from me :)
This series features women who are released from prison after serving their time for various infractions. In this story Mickey is walking down the road from the prison after her release when Kerrick happens by and offers her a ride. He drives her back to her family ranch which they find virtually deserted. Her ex, Morgan, was supposed to be taking care of things but ended up letting everything get rundown and he sold off all the cattle. Mickey is so overwhelmed with decisions Kerrick offers to help her. Kerrick ends up asking two of his brothers to move and help out. Fireworks start to flare between Mickey and Kerrick but will his job as a detective come between them like it did with his last relationship? Will they be able to save the ranch? These books can be read as stand alones but I think you will get hooked on the personalities of the characters and want to continue the series. I find this author's style to be very pleasant to read. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Set Free by Kelly Collins tells the story of Mickey and Kerrick. Mickey has just been released from prison when she meets Kerrick. He offers her a ride home. They have an intense chemistry from day one. Kerrick cannot seem to decide how to feel. His mood is all over the place. One obstacle they are facing is she has just been released from prison and he is a detective. After listening to her story Kerrick decides he wants to play the part of bodyguard. He knows he wants more with Mickey than he is willing to admit too. Mickey decides to try and get her ranch up and running again after learning her ex has sold her cattle and stolen her money. Her ex shows up and attacks Mickey. Kerrick feels like a failure while Mickey feels like he deserted her when she needed them most. Will they find there way back to each other? This story has it all. There is drama, chemistry, and just the right amount of danger.
This is my first book by Kelly Collins, I received this book in exchange of an honest review. Every time I read something by a new author to me i'm wary because i'm afraid it wouldn't like me, but when I started this book I just couldn't put it down anymore. This is the first book in The Second Chance Serie, and it's about Kerrick McKinley - a detective- and Michelle "Mickey" Mercer, an ex-con who just was released from prison after a one year sentence. The sparkles start showing from the first minute between Kerrick and Mickey. They both have a past that keeps getting in the middle of them, but they are so honest and sweet to each other. The are a fun couple, Kerrick it's just so perfect for her! He's a very handsome man, with the biggest heart I know. You just have to read this book and see for yourself!
I obtained this free e-book from Amazon and I am voluntarily writing a review. Mickey has just been released from serving a year in a Colorado prison. When she left to serve her sentence her ranch was secure with enough money in the bank to support the 450 head of cattle, horses to work the ranch and four ranch hands and a foreman to run it. She has a rude awakening when she arrives home to find the ranch deserted the cattle, horses, ranch hands and foreman are all gone along with all her money and the house has been trashed. Kerrick is a detective that has just finished interviewing a inmate when he sees a woman walking on the road by the prison that obviously has just been released with no one to meet her. He offers to take her where ever she needs to go. Who knew that by offering her a ride it would change the course of their lives?
This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.
Mickey has had a troubled life and ended up in prison, on her release a stranger picks her and drives her home. The stranger,a police Detective has also had a troubled past. The two develop a love/hate relationship, both trying to spare the others feelings and not talk about their problems.
Mickey comes home to find her family's ranch empty, how can she fix the seemingly unfixable and will her Detective be able to help.
Her recent past comes back to haunt her and destroy her again, will love and trust heal them both.
Another great story by Kelly Collins, I can't wait to read the next part in the series.
Given an ARC for an honest review. Kelly Collins gives very strong characters in this book. Mickey is a very sassy, strong and fierce woman. Talk about having a plan for what you want out of life. Kerrick is a hot, sexy and gorgeous man that is consumed by his work. When you combine these two you get a mixture of oil and water but it works. Kelly Collins shows that you can strive for something and you never know where the unexpected help will come from or appear. Quick read. Looking forward to more.
