Gabriel Wolfe #6

Rattlesnake

Rate this book
“Vinnie’s dead. Remember your promise? T”

When SAS veteran Gabriel Wolfe receives a five-word text, his self-imposed exile in Hong Kong comes to an abrupt end. Honouring a blood oath he swore with Vinnie Calder, Gabriel investigates how the ex-Delta Force sniper ended up dead in the middle of the Texan desert. What he discovers shocks the battle-hardened soldier to the depths of his soul.

Assisted by biotechnology tycoon, Clark Orton, a deniable CIA team is planning to trial a new biological weapon on Cambodian orphans.

Operating alone, Gabriel traces the plot to the heart of the Cambodian jungle. But powerful people want Gabriel silenced, permanently. And they’re happy to use any means necessary to protect their asset.

Action hotter than a machinegun barrel

This non-stop action thriller is the sixth novel in Andy Maslen’s Gabriel Wolfe series.

The action never lets up, whether Gabriel is silencing Russian “businessmen” in a London hotel room or fighting for his life against a CIA agent in the middle of a killing field.

His Special Forces skills are tested to the limit, from surveillance to covert entry, close combat to demolition.

Praise for Andy Maslen’s other novels

Fans of Lee Child, Mark Dawson, Daniel Silva, Brad Thor, Vince Flynn, Andy McNab and Chris Ryan love the Gabriel Wolfe thrillers.

Fury

“Was really looking forward to the next in the Gabriel Wolfe series and was I disappointed - NO! Once again the plot is complicated and challenging and keeps the reader desperate to read more. Gabriel is a killer with a conscience and his relationships and escapades are extremely believable. If you want a book (or even a series) of books that will provide exciting holiday reading, or any other time, then these are the books for you.”
Mrs K Miles

“This fifth instalment will not disappoint Wolfe fans. In Fury, Wolfe finds himself battling with an unknown enemy who clearly has designs on destroying his life, which includes targeting those close to him. As the story unfolds we see Gabriel venturing around the world as he chases down clues to help him identify his attacker whilst protecting those who mean anything to him. A great romp that will have you on the edge of your seat!”

I have thoroughly enjoyed this thriller featuring our friend Gabriel Wolfe! Interesting as Wolfe becomes involved in an old friends' murder, as they had made a blood oath to each other to check into a death not in action. He has been living in Hong Kong for a year after his life long mentor was killed, taking that badly as he believes his 'friends' are in fear of life by standing with him..
Now he goes to meet with the dead friend's wife, Terri-Ann, to keep his promise, as Vinnie's body is found in the middle of a desert. All his bones are broken, but there is a bullet hole...
The adventure to deal with his friend's betrayal by a company he works with goes from Texas to Cambodia, introducing us to some interesting characters and wild storylines. The fast paced action and enthralling scenes keep your hands turning pages until the last line!!
I have received an advance copy of this story from the author,Andy Maslan, who I thank and from which I can give my thoughts to you.

Gabriel Wolfe is trying to come to terms with his new situation in life when he suddenly gets a call from Texas, a friend is dead under suspicious circumstances. Rattlesnake by Andy Maslen is book 6 in this series and it is another good read. I really liked the part of the book set in Cambodia and the ending bodes well for the next book in the series.

Former SAS member Gabriel Hawke is in Hong Kong dealing with personal issues and wondering what he should do next. Then a text comes in from the Terri-Ann, wife of Vinnie Calder, an American soldier whom he met years before on a joint mission. The text was simple: “Vinnie’s gone. Remember your promise - T?”

The two became fast friends who ultimately made a blood oath: if either of them died from other than natural causes, the other would investigate their death.

Wolfe goes to San Antonio and meets Terri-Ann and soon finds himself battling unknown forces including CIA operatives while attempting to solve Vinnie's suspicious death in a Texas desert.

The adventure starts and ends in Texas where this Texan lives and whose father was stationed at one location in the book, Rattlesnake Bomber Base during WW II.

This was truly a great down-home Texas story!

Exciting and Imaginative

Beginning with a corpse in the desert the suspense never lets up. The body is one of Gabriel's buddies who draws him back into harm's way. Gabriel travels to Texas and Cambodia from his refuge in Hong Kong to find out who killed his friend and why. Before he is done he tangles with CIA agents and mercenaries. The characters are very realistic, but somewhat stereotypes. The plot is imaginative and engaging. The style of writing makes for easy and quick reading. I enjoyed everything about this book.

Dylan Frasier a highly decorated trooper with Texas Highway Patrol was on a mission, his life was falling apart he felt the only way out was to kill himself, he woke early kissed his wife and kids goodbye then drove to a remote part of the desert to do the deed, thats when he noticed vultures surrounding an area close by and went to take a look, he found the remains of a human body. Most of the flesh had been removed. What remained was a bloody skeleton, minus an arm, hung with scraps and tatters of muscle, skin and sinew.
Our favourite ex SAS agent Gabriel Wolfe is back after a year living in Hong Kong he receives a text message from Terri-Ann Calder, Vincent Calder's wife. They had met many years before whilst in training they became friends and had made a pact that if one of them died unless it was in his own bed the other would investigate it they became blood brothers to seal the deal.
So now Vinnie was dead the cops called it suicide but Gabriel will investigate find out and expose the truth.
Another brilliant read from Andy Maslen it’s always a pleasure to read one of Andys books they’re fast paced lots of action plenty of twists you don’t see coming. Excellent.

Gabriel Wolfe has been living the good life in Hong Kong for the last year. He met the long tall Texan named Vinnie when they were on a joint op. During a stay over at his ranch in San Antonio, they make a pact. If either one of them died, the other would investigate. Gabriel got the text from Vinnie's wife Terri-Ann and he is soon on a plane to the states. Vinnie had been shot with a 9mm and tossed out of a plane. It was ruled a suicide. The trail quickly leads to Cambodia and we a neck deep in pedophilia and a non-sanctioned CIA plan to experiment with the use of biological weapons on the children in orphanages. Obviously Gabriel isn't going to let that happen. If this is your first Gabriel Wolfe book, you picked a good one. If you are already a fan, then you have an idea of the excitement that awaits you

Seriously, what's NOT to ABSOLUTELY LOVE about this series??? In Book #6: Rattlesnake, Gabriel comes to Texas to deal with the murder of one of his friends, a soldier with whom he made a blood pact: if one of them died and it wasn't in his own bed, the other would come looking for his murderer. Gabriel investigates at the request of the wife. And ~ boy! ~ does he get more than he bargained for! At the leas ~ in the end ~he remembers he DOES want this life, even without Britta ~ which leads us into Book #7! Yay! So glad Mr Maslen found a way to move us forward into the next adventure ~ because I plan to join Gabriel on ALL of his adventures and I can only hope there will be MANY, MANY, MANY of them to come!

Rattlesnake. Andy Maslen

Gabriel Wolfe made a promise to a fellow American Special forces operator his SAS unit was on a mission with. If I don't die in my sleep, naturally, kill whoever is responsible. Vinnie, his good friend was shot in the chest, then thrown out of an airplane. The investigating police agency in a small town in Texas, has been told by the CIA to tell his wife he committed suicide. A lot of very unsavory CIA dealings could be exposed in an police investigation. Gabriel fully intends to discover the truth. Someone or whoever was responsible will face justice. Not in a courtroom. Magnificent action thriller. Enjoyed tremendously!

A Great Series

I’ve been binging on Andy Maslan’s Gabriel Wolfe series and simply can’t stop! Interesting and action packed though I wonder sometime about his lack of ‘situational awareness, talkativeness, and ease of trust’. Spills his guts to every and anybody! Eat and drink from everybody with no hesitation! Just doesn’t suit my idea of a hardened SAS trained assassin. Assassins should be more paranoid than this guy is.

Either-way, it’s a good read. I think action lovers will enjoy it. My only other gripe is that this and those immediately after do not come in audio. Absolute bummer!!

Pulled back into the game...

Licking his wounds in Hong Kong, Gabriel Wolfe is absent from his role in a British government security agency, but hardly absent from humanity. Personal bonds from past missions call to him and our hero responds from the deserts of Texas to the killing fields of Cambodia. It's Gabriel and his lethal skills versus a corrupt arm of the CIA. Of course there's some time for sweet romance. "Rattlesnake" is a page-burner that bites on hard and won't let you put it down.

Rattlesnake by Andy Maslen is the sixth in the Gabriel Wolfe series and like all the previous books it does not disappoint. In this book Gabriel is not working for the British Government, instead he is in Texas to investigate the death of a friend who was previously in Americas Delta Force, although the setting is different it is still gripping page turner, fans of Gabriel Wolf will not be disappointed.

Good thriller.

Good thriller that has Wolfe responding to a request from the widow of a former colleague murdered and body dumped in the desert from an aeroplane. The search for the killer puts Wolfe up against corrupt CIA agents and government officials trying out unlawful virus trials to commit mass murder. Action across different parts of the world tests Wolfe as he has become less alert after taking a year out from work.

Everything Goes Together Well

Sometimes in a series the author gets everything right. Rattlesnake is one of those books where everything flows really well, there are not any real hitches in the story and it is just a really enjoyable read. This is the best book in the series so far. I really liked it.

Book 6 in the series and they just keep getting better and better. Loved the plot line and the writing was, as normal, first class. Andy Maslen tells a story in such a way that the he hooks you on page one and doesn't let you go until he's good and ready.

What a brilliant read!

Rattlesnake

Excellent story and series with this touch of one of the more gruesome periods in mankind and the United States in particular. So much of the governing excesses of the past are seen in the calamities of the present.
