I enjoy reading this spicy vampire love story. I love how the elite vampire are there to protect the innocent. I absolutely love the fated mates trope. This was a fast read.
This book starts out Okay, and then quickly goes from could be good to what the heck. The events in the povs don't match up, the Insta everything is just too fast, and we get prominent trigger warnings on top of the basic storyline that doesn't need to be part of the story. Honestly, this book read more like a vampire erotica than a paranormal romance. They spend more time entertaining each other than anything else in the storyline. After all the tropes and the drama, we finally get the billionaire vampire spoiling his human mate.
Jax is an older vampire with quite a history. He may look twenty-four but has been paranormal for nearly 150 years. I love that he is upfront about the powers he has as a vampire. The squad he joined unexpectedly is like a vampire "Avengers." Leading us into where he is now.
Cassie is an adventurous driver, bestie, and hard worker. She seems fun and crazy, but she and her bestie are heading to Bar Harbor for a mini vacation. Some of the text in this book need to be clarified, as you know why and when the author included them. The story could flow more smoothly. It seems very forced. Like Jax's sudden outburst in chapter two, it came out of left field. The timelines don't make sense or jive between chapters two and three from the characters' pov.
Wow, the steamy jumps right in with very little pretense. Happenstance forces his hands a little, making him part of Cassie's life under the guise of protection. At this point, the reader knows more than the main characters in the story. Cassis seems to be a human mate to Jax but is wanted by Zyane. This story is Insta- lust beyond steamy to the point of sizzling.
The story tasks a turn from happy and truthful to deranged and triggers warning action. Cassie is snarky and sassy, but this moves very fast for her human understanding of the paranormal world she is thrust into. The whole love triangle thing is weird and seems out of place. From Insta-lust to Insta-love and the author even throws in paranormal pregnancy. The book goes from trigger warnings to even more in-depth warnings. Throwing red flags for way too much drama in this storyline. I could have done without the details. It didn't help the story. There is a lot of interspecies erotica.
I am not convinced this wasn't written as decent vampire erotica. The storyline goes from one surprising thing to the next. The sizzling scenes get kinkier. This book overall was okay, but I wanted to read something else.
I currently am reading through Stacy’s catalog. I have always love paranormal. I love how she wrote these vampires, it comes across more realistic vs fantasy. I loved KC(spelled Cassie) and her friendship with Jill. But her relationship with Jax was so sweet. Now if you have read Stacy before this book was definitely on the lighter side. Loved it!
