Revival is about the Reviver - nothing more and nothing less - ROLLAND BAKER.
The evidence of revival in Africa through IRIS Global is clear to see: tens of thousands of churches have been planted and hundreds of thousands of lives have been surrendered to Christ. But what have been the keys to seeing such a revival sustained over so many years?
Rather than offering a transferable model - because everyone's context is different - Rolland Baker shares the five core principles that have become the bedrock of IRIS Global's ministry. They reveal how revival can be sustained by supernatural love. These five principles fuel a cooperation with the Holy Spirit that leads to a Kingdom outpouring.
Rolland writes, "We don't impose these values on our ministry - the Spirit of God has imposed them on us. We simply recognise and adopt them." Readers will grasp both a deep longing for authentic relationship with the Lord and see how His love and power might be released in their own lives and ministry.
Rolland Baker is the husband of Heidi Baker PhD, a Christian missionary. Tougether they are the founders of Iris Global and the author of several books.
The Bakers have had decades of a fruitful ministry in Mozambique. Rolland Baker shares in this book what has kept their fire going.
He gives the core values that have guided their ministry. 1. Find God. Hearts are hungry for a Person. Their focus has been seeking and finding God with all their hearts. 2. Depend on Miracles. That requires humble hearts and trusting God. Baker recounts many of the miracles they have experienced. 3. Go to the Least. Prove the love of God by helping the poor. Adorn the Gospel with love and good works. 4. Suffer for Him, if Necessary. They know they must die to live. They are willing to give up all for the Gospel and they share many experiences. 5. Rejoice in the Lord. Many reasons for joy in their work are given and we are reminded of the subject of their joy, Jesus.
I really like how the Bakers approach ministry. Their theology is well developed and balanced. They embrace the work of the Spirit but do not neglect the work of the cross. Baker is quick to say that these are their core values and every ministry cannot be made to fit them. Each ministry must seek God and find their own values.
He also suggests that these core values should be a part of the normal Christian life. As we stay on the path of adoration of Christ, we live out these values.
I recommend this book to Christians who want to know how to keep the fire of revival burning in their own lives and in the lives of others. The ministry of the Bakers' is a good example and great inspiration.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.
“Keeping The Fire” is a short book by missionaries Rolland and Heidi Baker about the core values of their ministry in Mozambique and how they’ve sustained revival in their lives and ministry. Each chapter is about one of the five core values that they live out, and I was very impressed with their humbleness and willingness to be servants of God in Africa. After a chapter or two, I could tell that they came from a more charismatic denomination than me, but I was still impacted by how they run their ministry and the miracles that they’ve witnessed among those they serve. God is doing mighty things through this ministry!
I love the distilled wisdom of Rolland Baker, father of a worldwide movement of missionaries, doing its part to restore apostolic faith to the church. What he lives, he writes about here. While serving the poor on the continent of Africa, Rolland has found himself at the end of his own strength many times. His life has been a journey in learning to lean on the power of God. This book tells some of those stories and outlines the principles that keep Iris Global alive.
A great read that gets at the heart of Iris Global. I love the passion that shows through as Roland writes about the foundation of Iris' and the Baker's personal ministry. You can see both the emotional impetus and the well-reasoned message in each core value in the book. I enjoyed it so much, that I am rereading it to my wife as part of our prayer time before bed!
