Wilting Rose

3.5 stars - I hadn't planned on there being so much time between books in this series, but that's where life took me. I have returned to the dark recesses of Isabella Starling's mind.

I felt like this installment was more of a taunt and tease than anything. The story moves forward and is far less dark than the first book. Yes, it's still f'd up, but that was expected. Perhaps I spent too much time away, but I really didn't feel connected with the characters at all. It's like they're going through the motions of hurting each other with no real purpose.

Harlow Granger wasn’t my fucking flavor of the month; she was my one and only.
-- Rueben Thorn

I think knowing very little of Thorn's backstory at this point is part of what is preventing the connection. There are tiny hints here and there, but the picture is far from complete. Most of the time, I just want Harlow to make it all stop in a way only she can.

As for Pia and Carina, I still don't like them and hope karma visits to repay their kindness - HA! Amber... I really don't know what to make of that lost lamb.

I read this as part of the Rose and Thorn Complete Series collection.

There we go. There we fucking go. Now this.. is the type of book I’ve been waiting for. A story that can get me in, pull in through and forget what time it is when I look up from the pages.

Thorn has truly, and finally, wormed his way into my heart. For most my loves, they’ve been in from the start, but for Thorn, he had to work his way in, and that’s why I think he’s special. The first book had potential, starting with the build up. But for this book, the second, it is glorious. This is amazing.

"You should know by now. The only one I’m interested in hurting is you." If you don’t know the context of this quote, you might think this is a serious threat, that you wouldn’t swoon at or find it settling... well... if you do know the context... you would totally find Thorn sweet when he says it. Okay, maybe not sweet... sexy? Maybe?

"Cut them."

“What?”

“Cut them. Hurt me. Take it away from me. I don’t want it. I want you. I choose you. Now fucking take it away.”

See how I’m not telling you cut what? :) no spoilers.

I thought I’ve read all amazing books I’ve needed to. Who knew I needed this story?

gerekli olanlar ortada yok.

şu paylaşılamayan erkek olayı da canımı sıktı, erkeksen sevdiğin kadını atmicaksın böyle ortamlara
eskiden birlikte olduğun kadın gelip ölüp bittiğin kadına saçma sapan hareketler yapıyor, konuşuyor.
KUSURA BAKMA AMA HALA ONU O EVDE TUTMAN KABAHAT!!
PEH!

adam “You’re already mine,Always have been.” diyor başka bir şey demiyor
GÖSTERSENE ÖYLE OLDUĞUNU!
ÖYLE GELİP ONLARIN GÖZÜNÜN ÖNÜNDE SÖYLENMİCEK ŞEYLER YAPMAKLA OLMUYOR
gelip Pia'nın gözünün önünde öpmeyle olmuyor
kız sevildiğini hissetmedi ya,
ben sevildiğini hissetmedim

bir tek son kısımda, şurada:
“How will you know?” I asked. “That I’m not dancing?”
He cocked his head to the side, pondering my question. I thought I’d caught him unprepared, but he replied a moment later.
“Your Achilles’ tendons,” he went on. “I’m going to cut them.”
I pushed away from him on the blanket. My eyes were wide, terrified.
“You…” I whispered. “You would never hurt me.”
He stared at me with madness in his eyes, and I was truly afraid in that moment that he had lost his mind.
“I will,” he said, his voice back to normal. He looked like the devil. A handsome, cruel devil who held my fate in his strong hands. Hands that could break me… hands that would. “I will hurt you to keep you from leaving me.”
“You wouldn’t,” I cried out. “Why would you do that? Why would you be so cruel?”
He came closer to me, and my body froze in fear as he touched me gently, holding my cheeks between his fingers.
“Because you will always run,” he said gently. “As long as you can dance, you will keep running.”

Thorn has finally taken Rose for himself. He will do anything for Rose but she must submit. Rose knows she love/hates Thorn but she wants her independence. She wants to hang on to that little bit of self she has tucked away safely deep inside. Thorn knows Rose wants to run but he does everything in his power to keep her captive. When the opportunity finally presents itself, Rose & Amber take the chance & run. Going back to London is the only thing that makes sense to them. She battles with herself because she can't get over still wanting to be with Thorn when she is back in London. It doesn't take long for Thorn to find her but he has set a plan in motion to teach her & her friends a lesson for Rose running away. When they are finally back to the Mansion, Thorn is ready to admit how he feels about Rose but she must be willing to give everything of herself to him or she must leave. Thorn gives her a choice & she must make a decision to stay or go. Will Rose stay with Thorn or take this opportunity to be free once again?

This was a roller coaster of emotions with great highs of pleasure to deep lows of uncertainty for both Rose & Thorn. The author writes a tale of dark dominance & complete submission. If you enjoy your reads on the dark side this is a series worth reading.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader copy of this book. OMG! I’m so loving this series and it’s just getting better and better and I’m so excited for the next book in the series. Where do I begin? There is so much push and pull between Rose and Thorn, the desire to stay, the need to run from the man who took her, but now the desire is winning out. But how can she stay with someone who took everything away from her? It all started with Ellis and his cruelty and his own personal want for her and the fact that he brought Amber to the mansion under false pretenses. How can she let what’s happened to her happen to Amber? Ultimately, she will have no say so in what happens with Amber in the end. Rose and Thorn are so good together, and the feelings are building up to a crescendo, but danger is lurking around the corners and soon to explode. Pia and Carina are evil incarnate and will do anything to have the one man they both want and that’s Thorn, even if that means getting rid of Rose. He’s been clear with them, nothing and no one will stand in his way to get what he wants. They will get what’s coming to them. One mistake, on the run, racked with guilt, punishments to be doled out in spades to everyone involved with standing in the way of him and Rose being together including Rose. Rose feels disgusted with herself for falling in love with the man, the monster, but deep down inside he’s starting to show who he really is and just what her life will be like if she chooses to stay. Rose has a choice to make and Thorn hopes with all he has that she makes the right one. Such an amazing story, you will be on the edge of your seat, expecting something and getting so much more. The fear and love that Rose feels for Thorn is immensely deep, scary and confusing, she so wants her independence but is craving the want she feels for Thorn. How will their story end? I guess you will have to stick around to find out.

OMG. This book is the second one in the series, third if you are picky and count the prequel. And it just keeps getting better. If by better you mean darker, and I really do. This is just an awesome story and I just don't even know how the author is going to finish it off. The ending was just... ARGH!

Harlow, AKA Rose, is now settling into her position as Thorn's favorite. The problem is that he's holding back and Pia is still being an evil b-word. She tries to get in between them and is enabling Carina, who lives in a world of delusion. While Rose is falling in love with Thorn and is addicted to him, she's also afraid of what's going on and still wants to run away.

Thorn doesn't want to lose Rose or break her. The problem is that he's not sure what to do. He knows that she's hiding something, and he's afraid that means he's going to lose her, and he absolutely can't do that.

This book. Man. Rose and Thorn are electric together. I think that if they ever become partners, they will be a force to be reckoned with. Of course, that pre-supposes that they have dealt with Pia and Carina, those cows. I do think that Rose and Thorn mostly get tighter through the book, so we'll see what happens.

The one thing that I'm positively positive about? I need the next book RIGHT NOW!

This is the second book in the Rose and Thorn series. In this story, we get a little more of Thorn's story and what he has gone through and the moment he met Rose. But even while he is being a little more open with Rose, there are women in his past that are working against him to make Rose hate him

Rose is learning to submit, learning to need him on all levels, but when Pia gets her claws into Rose. Rose decides maybe everything Thorn has told her is a lie. So she runs. But whom she runs to might be even worse then the life Thorn has given her.

This is another emotional rollercoaster story. The ending (cliffhanger) blew my mind. And makes you also think, what would you do for love? I voluntarily read an advance reader copy for my honest review.

Shameful and shameless....

Omg this is a very ominous, less well trod path that these characters are following..... don’t get me wrong, I knew it was a dark read and it was never going to be easy.. but there is always a vestige of hope that one character will shed a sliver of light into the twisted, unscrupulous world of the other... but not in this story...they are both on a desperate, unsafe and insane journey into darkness...

These characters are fascinating, wonderfully penned creations; their world views so disparate... Thorn is merciless and wicked; there is no doubting his obsession with Rose and its potentially destructive consequences.. and yet there is something devastatingly beautiful in their dysfunctional relationship.

This is not a love story, in the time old tradition, but it is the tortuous marrying of two lost souls who find something that they were unaware they were searching for....Their relationship is dangerous and primeval and yet there is also an overwhelming feeling of safety and belonging between them...As their story unfolds I have experienced anger, frustration, shock and deep sadness but also feelings tantamount to joy and hope....

This series is shameful and shameless and I am completely addicted to it .....the final destination for these two starkly contrasting but somehow perfectly matched characters is a complete unknown but I am determined to stick with them to the bittersweet end....I received an advanced copy of this book from the author.

Speechless!!! I have no idea how Fawn Bailey wrote this story making the reader even more attached to the characters as she did but I loved it. You really get to know so much more about the characters in this book and the darkness that looms. And not like I wasn't already in love with Thorn but I fell that much harder reading about him in this one. Harlow's mind process is just amazing and shocking

Book 3 -- I need you now!

WOW I am loving this story about Thorn and Rose/Harlow.This series is just getting better and better in a twisted kind of way.We are starting to see a different side to Thorn, just when you think you know where this is heading, bang!! it throws you in another direction.

This is definitely a dark and captivating story the more you get into this,Rose's character is slowly growing and she is getting stronger and stronger as this series goes along.Loving Thorn's character as he is ruthless and brings out all your emotions, as one minuet he is nice and then the next you just want to slap him.

I was shocked at this ending, but now i can't wait to find out why Thorn is the way he is,as we are slowing getting to know what has happened to make him this dark, twisted, hot sexy man that he is.

Oh- I loved book two more than book one! In this, you get to dig a little deeper into Thorn and Rose, and the bond they are forming. Also, I have to say, other characters' crazies are showing more! Seriously.

Pure White Rose took me on a surprising and dark, twisty ride. And the end? Well, it shocked me. Now I wait on pins and needles to see what happens next!

Again I ask, am I a masochist?!!!! What a cliffhanger!!!!!

Let me set the stage, it is literally 3:15AM Eastern time, and birds are chirping extremely loud but I could not go to bed because I could not put this book down! This author's imagination is off the charts! My emotions bounced so much in this book, you would have thought it was a tennis match!

I love how you get Harlow's POV and then Thorn's (which with all the money he has, he needs a psychiatrist at that Mansion). There's a lot of action in this book as compared to book 1. Not as much sex but definitely enough to keep it interesting. I don't like to give anything away in my reviews but the climatic scene in the playroom had me screaming, "Bitches that's what you get!" If you could get through book 1, then you will love this one!

"Captured Beauty"
I'm loving this series so much and some how it gets better with every book.
Thorn and Rose have a very interesting relationship and I'm really enjoying reading their dynamic with each and the chemistry that they can't deny.
Thorn is the perfect anti hero as one minute you want to slap him and the next you want to rip his clothes off.
He definitely brings out all the emotions.
Rose is growing as a character in this series and I'm loving the fact that there is two sides of her and that she is becoming increasingly stronger as the series goes on.
This book definitely didn't disappoint me and I can't wait for book 3 to be published.
It's dark,beautiful and captivating.

I've always been and will probably always be a fan of Fawn Bailey's (AKA Isabella Starling). She has a way of not really caring what anyone thinks when she's writing and can write some of the darkest novels out there and i love it. I've had the chance to appreciate dark novels because they make you think - they truly make you see just how far the human body and psyche will endure to survive. To live. To love. And especially, to grow. Because let's face it, when you come in front of a situation that takes you out of your comfort zone, you have two choices: lay down and surrender (and probably die), or get back up and grow stronger.

This is exactly what happens with Rose. This girl was taken away from her dreams and kidnapped , then forced to become the woman she never thought she'd become, even enjoying some things that were way out of her level of comprehension. No, this woman isn't stupid; nor is she sheltered - Rose has seen things that i doubt many have seen in her short life, but there's just something about her that makes you pay attention. She's focused and driven. But most of all, what she is, is innocent. She sees the good in people that really, shouldn't be redeemable. Whether or not she keeps that innocence is still up for debate since this author doesn't spare this girl when it comes to her affair with Thorn.

Are these two meant for one another? I honestly can't say yes or no because there is just so many factors and people trying to tear them apart. Should they be together? Again, i have no idea... mostly because if things were different, i highly doubt they'd ever be together in the first place. But are they good for one another? Boy do i hope so... because the girl that Rose used to be is so much more than just a ballet dancer and Thorn more than just the man that kidnaps women to make a profit off the sale of the perfect slave.

I'm more than a little curious to find out what and how Fawn Bailey will end her trilogy, because for certain, i've become more than a little invested in this couple and can't wait to find out just how their 'forbidden' love will end.

This series has literally checked off every single thing I would love from a dark read. He’s ruthless to a level of almost no redemption and then he softens and makes you forget every single thing he’s done and you love it. The constant need to slap him as I read came up short to wanting him oh so bad. I love a good twisted storyline with a heroine who’s torn with every decision she makes and a antihero who relishes in it and makes you want to wish them a great life of HEA!

I can’t wait for more!

After the death of Ellis, Thorn finally has his Rose. I find the development of the story isn't that much but the characters do grow a bit together. Thorn, while he too has a dark side, isn't a terrible man. He treated Rose and Amber kindly, or as kind as he ever going to get, I suppose. We also get some story on Carina and her twisted mind and I think it will only going to get worse from here. We also have a wee bit more background story on Thorn and Pia, but nothing that makes me jump out of my seat yet.

I loved this book! We see more of Thorn, which is always a good thing, and we see more of the possessive/obsessive relationship developing between both of them! We also see more of Pia, who just needs to take a hint and go away in my opinion! I cant wait to read the final book!

This fence sitting is getting uncomfortable. Now, instead of feeling no sympathy toward the hero or the trainer (where I was with previous book) I am convinced the hero is a coward. He didn't want to train her because of reasons explained that make zero sense. Basically because he is afraid of stuff. What stuff? I don't know cause you gotta be a weird sociopath to understand what's happening!

Then there's the fact he knows she gets mistreated but leaves her at the mercy of weirdos. Perhaps because he is one too? The whole grabbing another poor ballerina plot is sad and a way to manipulate the heroine. I still want her to escape. She is getting weaker but knows she has to get away because there have been others like her.

I'm not sold on any romance. There's apparently some "electricity" between them but she may be just not lifting her feet up when she walks on carpet creating some static! I still want her to escape and dance again🙃

I really like the concept of this book, but I feel as though the actual love story is missing. I do not feel as though there is enough actual interaction for Thorn to love her. Also I feel as though we are missing his thoughts as he does not come up a lot. Decent book and I will finish the trilogy, but I do feel as though the foundation of why they love each other is missing.

Will not read the last one

I can’t really put into words how I feel about this book.. the way he treated her and the other girls and the whole human trafficking thing, is disgusting. I read the first book and I thought hmm. Okay maybe things will turn around, I went into this book and was disappointed. I hated everything about this book and I would not recommend it for anyone.

It took me a long time to get this review written. I read this book during a time when I was feeling broken and worthless. The turmoil in my life was blending together creating one big mess. Then Harlow and Thorn came back into my world.

Fawn Bailey has an amazing way of turning something so dark and depraved into something so fragile and beautiful. The complexity of Harlow and Thorn as individuals and them as a couple is extraordinary.

In book two we are able to see the internal conflict Harlow has with herself. She wants to hold onto the person she has known her whole life, but also wants to take hold of the new her "Rose" and immerse herself into something scary, exciting and new. She knows her old life holds nothing for her and that her future as Harlow is not something that she wants anymore, but we have to watch her grow into a woman, into Rose and out of her little girl self. We get to see her transformation and her growth from a young lady into a woman, Thorn's woman.

"I didn't know whether it was possible for me to ever be truly happy, yet in Thorn's kind ownership, I found my soul again and lived to please him as much as I lived to dance. No matter what I told myself, I was addicted to Thorn and Thorn alone. He was the only one I wanted." - Rose

Thorn is just as sick and depraved as he was in book one but we get to see more of him. We get to go inside his thoughts and his soul, to get a better understanding of why he is who he is. What makes him tick and what makes him so obsessive over Harlow. His past is dark and his reasoning for what he does to Harlow is not always logical, but in the end we see that through all of his messed up thoughts and actions he does truly know how to love and to feel love, but showing it is a different level for him that he tries to work on throughout the story.

"My body, heart and soul were eager to be revealed to her, but my mind struggled with the decision. I wasn't sure whether I was ready. It took me a long time to realize that I was madly in love with the girl. Harlow Granger wasn't my flavor of the month, she was my one and only." - Thorn

These may be just characters to some people, but they are real to me. They feel and have thoughts and go through life just as we do as humans in society. Fawn Bailey gives us this outlet so we can know we are not alone and that its okay to feel things that might not always be accepted by others. We are unique and different in our own ways and we all love and accept things that others may not. But in the end love is love, no matter how dark, depraved and sinful it may be.

The Right Shade of Dark

As I had previously stated in my review of Book 1 of this trilogy, I appreciated that the violence and sadistic acts were not as descriptive as in other dark romances that I've read. I had hoped this would continue and am glad to say that it has. Not only relative to the gorier details, but for others as well. Imagination is often like a fire. It is stoked with the setting, and inflamed with sufficient additional detail to allow it to burn brightly. But too much detail can act like a pail of water, as it squelches the flame, inhibiting our ability to work with the descriptions we're provided and to let our own imagination take us where we want to go. Fawn Bailey seems to have been able to decipher that fine line between too much and too little detail and proves it again in Pure White Rose.

Rose, as she is now called by most at the Mansion (rather than Harlow), has mostly accepted her fate to remain as Thorn's slave submissive. Her desire for freedom is usually overcome by the realization that she has become so emotionally and physically tied to him that she could never stay away from him for too long. But fate can be fickle. When Rose learns that Thorn intends to begin Amber's training, her need to protect Amber from a life such as hers overrides her need to remain with Thorn and forces her to plan to escape with Amber. Unbeknownst to Rose, her actions feed into the collusion between Carina and Pia. So when Rose reaches out to Carina to help Amber and her, Carina is only too willing to do so. Although, she is unaware that Carina's end game (like Pia's) is to remove Rose from the picture permanently and, thereafter, replace her.

I am truly enjoying this storyline and all the intricate, intertwined subplots. As despicable as Thorn can sometimes be, there is an underlying sense of goodness in him and I just can't find it in me to dislike him. And for all of Harlow/
Rose's apparent weaknesses, she shows backbone and strength when it's needed, so it's difficult to criticize her.

I really need to end this review now so I can begin the final book in this saga.
