After the betrayal of her ex-boyfriend, Gwen has sworn off men. Her sister's upcoming wedding and her new single lifestyle serve as constant reminders that she's not where she hoped she'd be in life. At the urging of her sister, she steps out of her comfort zone with a girl's night out. Counting on disappointment, the one thing she never saw coming was the handsome stranger with capable hands, who lit a fire in her after a steamy one-night stand. Love-wary single dad, Alaric, is starting over. In an effort to be closer to his daughter, Alaric has sold everything, including the business he inherited from his father. After all the upheaval he’s experienced lately, the last thing he's looking for is another complication, but that’s exactly what he gets when he discovers the daughter of his new boss is none other than his latest one night stand. Their co-working relationship is only one of the obstacles keeping them apart, but when their insane attraction causes sparks to fly, will Gwen and Alaric deny their chemistry, or will they coalesce into something even greater than their individual parts?
J.C. Hannigan lives in Ontario, Canada with her husband, their two sons, and their dogs. She writes contemporary romance, through which she brings to light awareness of mental health and social challenges.
Like any good Canadian, she loves hiking and carbs.
Coalescence is the very first book I have read by J.C. Hannigan, and I loved it. The two main characters stole my heart from the beginning.
Gwen Williams’s life certainly hasn’t turned out the way she thought it would. Eight months ago her boyfriend whom she thought was her future, admitted to cheating on her and their relationship ended. Also, Gwen’s passion, her dream, has always been writing. But her parents urged her to pursue a college degree in something more dependable so she majored in business administration and is now her father’s administrative assistant at his welding shop. Now, eight months after the break up, she hasn’t pulled herself out of her funk. So her sister, Kelsey insists it time to get back out there and drags her out to the local popular bar for a night out.
Alaric Petersen has made some major changes in his life as well. After his girl friend admitted to cheating on him, they also broke up. The difference is, they shared a daughter who was the center of Alaric’s world, Sawyer. His ex-girlfriend moved three hours away and Alaric tried to make it work but he was too far from Sawyer. So he sold his welding business and his home and moved closer. Now he’s about to start a new job in a couple of days. His real estate agent invited him out to hear his band play, and that’s where he is when he first sees her. It’s one of those moments when two people look across the bar at each other and their eyes meet. He can’t keep his eyes off of her. This is the last thing he needs right now.
Gwen is struck by the beauty of the man across the bar. Maybe there is something to what her sister said. It’s time to jump back in. One thing leads to another and Gwen and Alaric share a night neither of them could have ever expected. A night of shared passion they have never experienced before. But, this is a one night thing. They both knew it. Little did either of them know that on Monday morning Alaric would be walking into the very business where Gwen works. He is the new hire her father told her about.
“She was like a breath of fresh air, and she blew through me with the warmth of sunshine.”
Gwen and Alaric try to avoid each other and deny what is still between them. When their chemistry is just too much to take, they both agree to a casual arrangement. Just fun sex. And let me tell you, these two steam up the pages. They are hot together. Gwen gives a whole new definition to the term multiple orgasms.
Life, though, is complicated. Alaric is at odds with his ex, trying to gain more time with his daughter. A gorgeous Newfoundland dog also wanders into his life. I loved the way this dog enriched Alaric’s life and the way he took to little Sawyer.
“We both had walls around our hearts. But when we touched, we both spoke a different language, one that wasn’t that of walls. It was a language of unbridled passion. She awoke something that resided so deep inside of me, I’d forgotten it was there until she set it free.”
They both try to deny to themselves that their feelings are growing, that they have moved beyond casual. But it’s impossible to do. This could go so wrong. Alaric works for Gwen’s dad. He needs this job and the benefits. But he can’t think of anything but Gwen. She’s on his mind constantly. Could she feel the same way for him as he does for her?
“He was everything I never knew I wanted, and he made me feel things so intensely.”
I really did enjoy this. I loved these two together. I think they both had to go through what they did before they met each other to know what they really wanted. They were perfect together. And Sawyer and Tig, the dog, were so adorable along with plenty of fun secondary characters. There is a perfect epilogue that left me with all the warm and fuzzies. I most definitely want to read more by this author. I can’t wait to see what she is doing next.
“Around Gwen, everything meant more. I felt deeper, saw clearer, felt steadier. She was gravity.”
Wow! This was my first book by this author. And definitely not my last. I just loved everything about this book. The writing was perfect. The pace was smooth and steady. Never was I frustrated or annoyed with any aspect. I had complete respect for both H/h. All around this was a very enjoyable read and I'm so glad I came across it.
Alaric and Gwen..... Both these characters have trust issues. Both for very good reasons. I understood their wariness and hesitation to become more than a "one and done." Fortunately, life has other plans and as a result we get a truly enjoyable and heartwarming story. In addition to the sweetness, there is a whole lot of heated moments. Yep! This book was a perfectly balanced, all around great read and I recommend it.
Gwen was betrayed by her ex. As a result, she lost confidence in herself and motivation to do anything more than find comfort in her favorite foods and her couch. Luckily, her sister takes control and forces Gwen to get out of the house. So she goes out and surprisingly has a great time with a guy she meets at the bar.
Alaric is a single father who has justified trust issues when it comes to women, all thanks to his ex. I won't go into details because there is a reason for everything and as the story unfolds, we will learn the "why" of things.
In the meantime, Alaric and Gwen will soon find themselves thrown together despite the fact they only wanted the one night together. I loved how the story unfolds, how their relationship develops and grows. Everything aspect of it was perfect and believable. This book is written with both perspectives which I appreciate more than I can tell you. Being inside both Alaric and Gwen's minds helped to be inside their hearts as well. They are both amazing, loyal and lovable characters. I'll say it again, "I absolutely recommend this book."
This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. :)
Wow! This book was amazing. Super spicy, filled with panty melting scenes and a couple you can’t help but fall in love with. I think it had more sex than fifty shades but the story line was better. Don’t wait, pick up this book right now…
After having her heart broken by her ex, Gwen has decided that she doesn't need a man, or the troubles that come with them. Her sister makes her go out one night insisting that she just needs to jump back into the scene, just get a rebound and she should be fine. When she walks in and immediately locks eyes with a Thor look-a-like, her night just got better by 100%. After an amazing night together, the two obviously go their separate ways, not even a phone number exchanged. When Alaric shows up at his new job on Monday morning, he is shocked to find Gwen manning the desk and dealing with his paperwork. After trying to stay apart, the two realize that maybe they can use this attraction to their advantage. Can two people that have trust issues be able to pull off a casual no strings relationship? What happens when the casual relationship starts to develop into something more?
This was my first read by J.C. Hannigan, and I found it to be a good read. The chemistry between Gwen and Alaric was just radiating off the pages. The sexy time scenes were HOT. With some drama, but nothing major and nothing that was relationship threatening. I do wish there had been some kind of ending... it just sort of ended. I give this 4 stars.
This was a first read on this author for me. I liked the story.
Pros: There is really no drama or angst, great chemistry. Tons of sex if you like that. Fantastic cover that really made me think of these characters.
Cons: I felt it went a bit long for what it was. The side characters really lack depth. We read about every time they have sex, which is multiple times most chapters. I could have been happy with half of those fade to black because it started to feel excessive.
Coalescence has pushed it's way to one of my top J.C. Hannigan reads. Fresh and exciting the story between Gwen and Alaric is funny, sexy, and 100% swoon-worthy. Pages filled wth endless hot sex, witty banter, and undeniable chemistry, this is one upcoming release you don't want to miss.
Thank you J.C. Hannigan for giving me another reason to fall in love with your words.
The story of Gwen and Alaric was fun and hot! I enjoyed the fact there was no real drama between the two. Having a couple who are comfortable with each other even through the questions about the feelings and not having to have drama filled moments was a refreshing change to the norm. I highly recommend this book and I am looking forward to reading more from this author.
This is the 1st book by JC Hannigan that I have had the pleasure to read!! It was absolutely amazing!! I loved Gwen and Alaric the characters were well written and I couldn't put it down!! I read it in less than 2 hours and loved it from start to finish!! Great story with some seriously HOT chemistry a definite 5 star read!!
A fabulously steamy read by J.C Hanniagn. A new author for me!
The characters are relatable, the story realistic! I hate when I read a romance book and it’s so far fetched that you find yourself smacking your forehead 😂
Wow. A new author and I have to say I freaking loved this book.
Gwen was a bit depressed, down in the dumps after a breakup with her boyfriend who cheated on her, and she just couldn't get out of it. Until her sister didn't give her a choice and they went out, for a night on the town. And her sister was adamant she should find herself a rebound, but that just wasn't who she was. But the minute she say Alaric, Thor's lookalike, she was certainly down for a one night stand. And he was just what she needed to get her out of this slump.
Alaric is new in Town. Sold his business, moved everything to be with his little girl. But his ex was being a witch, and wouldn't change the visitation times. So he was out after a friend invited him out. And he was hooked when he met Gwen. And what happened after that he can't explain, but suddenly he can't seem to get enough of this women. But lo and behold Monday morning walking into his new job and who is the receptionist and the owner's daughter....
I loved this book. I loved Gwen and Alaric. Together they were freaking explosive, and apart they were great people. But can two people who have terrible trust issues make it work together. Or is there just too many obsticles to overcome for them?
Definitely my kind of story. I will be checking out more of this author's books. Oh and by the way, did you see this cover... #Covergasm!!!
Just when you think you know an author, they go and mix it up on you! I think Coalescence is the most overtly sexy book that Ms. Hannigan has written and for Gwen and Alaric it really works. I am a self confessed fan of Ms Hannigan and when it came to reviewing this book, she's a little bit of a victim of her own success. I really liked this book, but didn't get quiet the same level of emotional impact that I am used to from a Hannigan book. Yes, I like it when she twists me up before making it work and I missed that here a little bit. Gwen and Alaric are both interesting characters that are easy to like and relate to. I like them separately and found myself liking them together. In Coalescence, we are taken right to the edge of too much sexy time, but there is enough true relationship building that we don't cross that line. There are hints of angst and conflict, but most of that is internal to the individual characters and they seem to be able to reign it in before things blow up. I do wish some of the external conflicts hinted at had been explored a little bit more, but am okay letting my imagination work too. Overall, this a good read showing how even the most awkward of beginnings can work when it's the right person.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and its characters. JC Hannagan is going to be an author to stalk. Gwen is living a half life closing herself up in her tiny apartment with her cat. Her hearts broken and she just cant seem to move on. Her sister Kelsey forced her out one night and everything changes. She locks eyes on Thor in real life.
Alaric knows heartache and he doesnt have time for any more. His life revolves around his daughter and his work. On a whim he goes to a bar to watch his friends band play and his eyes meet Gwen's. These two are made for each other even if they both refuse to believe it at first.
This story was a breath of fresh air. Real situations handled in very real ways. While the characters and story are fiction it was nice to read characters that are beautifully flawed. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more from this author.
Gwen is trying to get over the betrayal by her ex, when her sister forces her to have a girls night out. And it's this night that she comes across a man who looks like Thor, and he ends up being her rebound hookup. She and Alaric have a HOT night together, and by the next day, they are off to their regular lives again, until he shows up for his new job, which just happens to be the place that she works at. So of course, they try to stay out of each other's way, but with a chemistry like they have, it doesn't take too long before it ignites again, and they light the sheets on fire. These two were interesting characters, as there wasn't too much drama when it came to them, although they both had pasts that built the walls that they have up which makes for the hint of angst. But they were easy to relate to, and I really liked them from the beginning as they did make me laugh quite a bit. This was my first J.C. Hannigan story, and will be reading more by her in the future as I finished the story in one sitting. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Alaric has given up everything to be closer to his daughter, and Gwen is disillusioned with men in general after a break up. When Alaric starts his new job he is stunned to realise that his previous one night stand is the boss’s daughter. Both of these characters are adamant that they are not looking for a relationship, but can they deny the intense attraction between them? No spoilers; this is a definite must read, you will not be disappointed! This is a well written, humorous, and captivating page turner which had me hooked and intrigued throughout. I highly recommend this authors’ work for all readers, and cannot wait to read more form this talented author.
A sizzling romance that will have you swooning. This was a sweet single dad story. I have to admit I am used to more emotional reads from this author but a good romance works from me too. I enjoy when an author strays from what people expect from them to give you a new experience with their writing. I loved the characters and how they complemented eachother. Both were hurt in the past and guarded their hearts which was understandable. The pace of the book let you see their relationship unfold without it being rushed. The writing was refreshing and I finished this book in one sitting. I don't want to give anything away but this is a book you don't want to miss. I look forward to reading more from this author.
This was a new to me author and I will be reading her books in the future. A hot, steamy, one night stand that was to end right there. However fate had other things in mind for Gwen and Alaric. Both of them had broken hearts for different reasons which I don't want to reveal to keep the story somewhat unspoiled for the reader. What was supposed to end at a one night stand becomes something they cannot avoid on Monday morning. They are now in each others lives not by choice but still unable to resist each other. This book brings on the hot and steamy!
Sizzling chemistry, witty dialogue, and a depth to the characters you'll root for make Coalescence a page-turning romance. Hannigan brings more heat to the page than ever before! You won't want to put down this off-limits love story with tension galore!
Coalescence is another amazing read by Jc I loved this book..... The chemistry between Alaric and Gwen was off the charts.... What was suppose to be a one night stand became so much more. He doesn’t have time in his life for more than one night. He’s never really let a woman in, not even the mother of his child truly had a piece of him. Gwen trusts no man after the betrayal of her ex. But once they get a taste of each other, they can’t stop thinking about the other. Then fate steps in and puts them together. They try to keep things casual but it’s impossible when the connection is so strong. They both realize it’s so much more but can they really overcome all the obstacles???? Read and see !!!! I’m not telling!!!!!
This is my first book from J. C. Hannigan and it definitely won't be my last! I was drawn in from the first chapter. It's definitely a very sexy read and two people who need each other. Gwen was nursing a broken heart after being cheated on. Alaric was try to connect with his daughter after his ex moved away, then moving to be closer to his daughter. I loved this second chance story, it was hard to put down. The dance they did telling themselves it was just a friend's with benefits deal. But it was so much more and you felt them growing closer, their need to be with each other. Their chemistry was explosive!! I absolutely loved it!!
J.C. Hannigan has done it again with another well written novel. She knows what her readers want to see and how she wants the chapters to come across. If you like romance, drama and a pinch of comedy this is the book for you to pick up. The star-crossed lovers who are total opposite come together over time. Between secrets and love the two main characters didn’t let anything or anyone pull them apart.
Alaric and Gwen will forever be in any readers heart with the storyline they had in this book. I highly recommended this book along with all of J.C. Hannigans books in her collection of novels.
This is the first book I have read by J.C. Hannigan and I know it will not be the last! This is a wonderfully written story about Gwen and Alaric. Gwen having broken up with her cheating boyfriend is talked into going out by her sister to find a rebound man. They walk into the bar and she locks eyes with a Thor look a like. After a wild night were they don't even exchange number both go their separate ways. Come Monday morning Alaric shows up as the new welder her father has hired for the family fabrication shop. I love the chemistry between these two! This book hooked me from the beginning and I could not put it down until the end. I can't wait to read more from this author.
From beginning to end this book was amazingly written and kept me interested right trough.
I loved the hard edge of Alaric and the sassiness of Gwen. Their lives and relationship was so interesting to read about that I simply just could not put the book down because I wanted to know what is going to happen next. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat and will not disappoint. This is my first time reading one of the author’s books and I insure you this is not the last time. This authors writing has hooked me and now I can’t stop!!!
I very much enjoyed this book! I fell in love with Alaric and Gwen. I orginally despised Cheryl and wanted to punch her, but I had a change of heart. Even the secondary characters I wanted more of. I loved how Alaric and Gwen were able to develop a truly wonderful friendship. This gave them the time they needed to realize their priorities in life. The smexy scenes were super hot. I highly recommend this book!
I think this might just be my new favourite!! Every time I read one of J.C.'s books I think that there's no way the next one can top it, but it always does. They get better and better. Her talent is unstoppable! I always get sucked in and need to read it in one day!
Great story, amazing characters, insane chemistry!
This book was so, so much more than I ever expected it to be! These characters are amazing! It was so easy to fall in love with them and watch them grow throughout the story. Alaric is everything anyone could ever want in a man. Gwen is quirky and exactly who I think I'd be friends with. I had a hard time putting this story down and definitely need more blue-collar romances in my life!
I was surprised at how the story just flowed, I was towards the end before I knew it. I loved the storyline and the characters, the only draw back is the writing was based in Canada and it took a few times to re-read to understand what it was, I laughed at myself for that.
