Audiobook review. Everett and Jo had some obstacles to overcome before they could be happy and I was thoroughly entertained by the journey. I found myself rooting for badass Jo with her sassy attitude and charmed by Big South and his suave ways. The plot was interesting in a soap opera kind of way with a hint of OTT drama that kept me glued to my phone as I listened. Let me tell you that the narrator they picked for Everett was perfect **dreamy sigh**.

This book is joining the ranks of my favorites and this will not be my only foray into this new to me author.

4.5 Stars. So no one was going to tell me to read this book sooner?!? How did ya'll not tell me to read this book when it first came out

Wow! So Let Me Love You is the first book in the McClain Brothers series. A few people have been telling me to check this series out so I thought I would read it while I was in a huge mood for contemporary romance. This was so good. I mean, really good. It was so good that it made me want my own Everett. He is the third book boyfriend that I have acquired this year and I'm not sure what that says about me. This book focuses on Jo as she attempts to bring some normalcy to her life after getting divorced and becoming a single mother. She encounters Everett also known as "Big South" and they have this instantaneous attraction. Unfortunately, they come from "different" worlds. Everett is a famous rapper/musician and lives a completely different lifestyle from Jo. Throughout the book, they fight to build a relationship and be open and honest with each other.

My favorite part of this book: the way that Everett treated Jo. Ya'll. I just need a Black man in my life like Everett and everything will be just fine. He literally was willing to move the Earth, the Moon, and stars for her because of how much he loved her. Was he perfect? Absolutely not. He brought his own baggage into the relationship but he was willing to try all the time to make it work. I have never seen someone fight like that for a relationship. Then it was the way that he was so good with Natalie. He was so willing to take care of her even if that wasn't his biological daughter. Every scene where I was able to see Everett and Natalie together just made my heart smile. I think it's something that I hope to see one day for my own daughter as a single mother.

The attraction between Jo and Everett was undeniable. Jo did have a few self-esteem issues, but I think that was all in relation to Everett being a celebrity. The unspoken expectation is for celebrities to date celebrities so I understand her questioning as to why Everett wanted to date her in addition to the pain that she suffered at the hands of her ex. There were moments when I felt like it went on too long, but for the most part I understood it. I'm such a huge stickler for chemistry so when I read romance I want to feel the desire between the characters. I want to root for them to be together. This was the perfect example. Every time something went wrong I was silently pushing and hoping that they would work through it.

One of my criticisms of this book is definitely the length. I felt that House had to continuously create situations that would "break" Jo and Everett up because they would happen so quickly and then get resolved so quickly. It began to feel like some things were happening as a filler to make the novel longer. It wasn't like that the entire novel, but I felt that way towards the end. It just seemed like everyone was out to ruin Jo and Everett and that didn't feel realistic.

Overall, this book was AMAZING. I absolutely loved it and I can't wait to read the next in the series.

I really loved the bodyguard novella later on in this series, so I knew that I had to go back and read the beginning of this series. Jo Walker is a single mom who got divorced because her husband cheated on her. She meets Everett, a big rap star, and is immediately put off by his womanizing ways. Everette is completely stricken with Jo, though, and is determined to have her in his life.

In the beginning, I really enjoyed this book. I loved how it was a celebrity romance and Everette tried so hard to prove to Jo that he wasn't a womanizer and took his relationships seriously. I really enjoyed how Jo slowly broke down and let Everette into her life and how important both of their children were to them and the choices they made. I will say, though, that I don't like the jealous ex trope in my romances and this book had TWO of those who took a majority of the conflict for the second half of the book. While I loved the beginning, I did get annoyed in the later half when the exes.

My own personal presences aside, I think this was a great romance that deals with the celebrity trope and I enjoyed watching Jo and Everette trust and fall for each other.

OMG

When I say, I loved this book. I did. Alexandria House you showed it out with this one. All I can say is that Everett 'Big South McClain was everything. I loved that fact that it didn't take them forever to get together. I do not like it when couples fight their attraction for each other and wait till the end of the book to be together. I like they were together all the way through. They went through all the battles together and they talked it out, except for one thing that Jo didn't tell him. That Esther should have got more than what she got. Great great read. I can't wait till the next one. Oh, will Bridgette get a book??

5 “Big South” stars!!

This book was all that and more!! I went in totally blind other than knowing the hero was a famous rapper. This book had heart, grit and all the freaking steam!! Have mercy was BS nasty!! I love that Jo had to gag him all the time because he was just so vocal. Jo has bumped herself up to one of my favorite heroines! Her strength and resilience. The way she loved her daughter and always put her first. I loved her big sandy red fro, bold juicy lips, her freckles and her sassy sexiness. She was the total package that everyone else seemed to think was ordinary except Everett. She was unlike any woman he’d ever been with, and that’s what made this story so perfect. Jo was just like me or you. I swooned hard over this book, and melted in all the right spots.

If you love a single parent, reformed playboy rap star, age gap, steamy as all get out romance—look no further. I will be binging AH’s backlist and buying me some pineapple ASAP!!

Let Me Love You was so good! I have never laughed so much while listening to a book. There were so many LOL moments. Everett and Jo were adorable! I loved their journey as a couple. Not only was their love story told so beautifully, it was realistic and relatable. Everett is the kind of man we all dream of finding. They both had some excess baggage with their exes but, they overcame it and didn't let the drama get in they way of their relationship. Now, while I love me some Everett and Jo, Bridgette was the stand out character in this book. She was so freakin' funny! Bridgette is that friend that tells you the hard truth whether you want to hear or not. Oh, and lets not forget about Uncle Lester. He stole the show too. This was my first book by Alexandria House and it did not disappoint!

What a Great book! It was sexy, funny, romantic - but most of all - refreshing!
Finally... a book about colorful characters!
And the audio? The narration was so fun - with awesome slang talk.

I am literally speechless with author Alexandria House!!! My God, she wrote these McClain Brothers (Everett and Leland like nobody's business).

I thought Leland was going to be the end all and be all but that darn Everett OMGGGG!!! He was so fantastic, big time legendary rapper, great businessman, family man and fell head over heels in love with Jo Lena Walker. When we are first introduced to Everett aka Big South, it's not in the most quaint way, he is literally in bed with a groupie chick, mistaking Jo as her boss's mistress and everything just goes completely (South, no pun intended) during their first meeting. Jo was pissed and Everett was amused plus turned on, what he didn't realize was this little spitfire of a woman was going to literally turn his world upside down.

Jo Lena Walker, divorced and a single parent, her focus is on raising her daughter Natalie aka Nat aka baby lion (Rawr) and hanging with her bestie Bridgette while supporting her friend's acting career. All she wants is a nice quiet existence, working as an aspiring jewelry maker with an insane Korean boss (married, who loves black women and gets beat up by his wife for incessantly cheating on her). So when she is tasked with taking an expensive piece of jewelry to the unknown recipient, Jo had no idea that his meeting would change her life. This man was going to show her exactly what real and true love looked liked and it was going to come from the unlikeliest person.

Everett and Jo's story is so incredibly beautiful and emotional, they both come from extreme places of hurt, their vow was never to open themselves up to another person but to keep doing them by handling their business. But Everett's heart literally opened up for Jo and determined that he was going to love her, even when she tried to push him away and he was patient, caring, fiercely loyal to her and his baby girl Nat-Nat, he stepped in and took care of Jo's daughter as if she was his own, did a far better job than her own daddy. Jo in turned was completely worn down by Everett who wouldn't take no for an answer, encouraged her and made her fly, watching Jo find herself and purpose, come into her own and be the woman that Everett always knew she could be. Everett and Jo morphed into the quintessential power couple and I loved it.

Now that is not to say they didn't have their share of outside problems, more specifically their ex-spouses (serious eye roll here). That damn Esther and Sid got on my last nerve but you know when you read this story, oh you will see that they both got their comeuppance LOLLL!!! And it was glorious to behold. There are also some secrets that are revealed in this story that will make your mouth drop. Everett and Jo's story is very emotional, lawdddd my eyes were filling up with water at times but there are also very funny moments too.

All in all, this is a fantastic story that I know you will love, so my stamp of approval is definitely on this book and book two featuring Leland.

Well Until My Next Review...Ciao Bellas!

I originally read this book back in 2019 and have listened to it on audible multiple times. I recently read it again as a BOM read for a book club that I'm in. You know that a book is good when you read and listen to it multiple times. I didn't stop with a re-read of book one but the whole series as well as the Romey University Series that's interconnected with the McClain brothers and a few of her other series.

Anywho, I finally got to meet Big South 🥰 🍍He loved him some Jo. I was a little underwhelmed though. Not sure if it’s because I just listened to this after reading Parachutes 😬

Why did this book have to be so long? I enjoyed the beginning although rolled my eyes plenty at the stereotypical side characters and overused, unhealthy trope of “boy meets girl. Girl despises boy. Boy ignores girl’s rejection. Boy pursues and wears girl down until she loves him.” The author beautifully captures the romance of mundane moments like watching your loved once dance with her child, which I find more romantic than grand gestures such as sending all the roses from the florist shop. But did she have to include EVERY line of dialogue of EVERY small talk conversation from EVERY side character during EVERY mundane event and situation? Plot points were so. Slow. To. Develop. I listened on audiobook and found myself so desperate to move it along I increased to 2x speed. Even then I kept checking the percentage finished, thinking “how are are there still 4 more hours in this book?!” When it finally ended I breathed a sigh of relief. I would enjoy this author again with a LOT of editing.

5 "Know your worth." Stars!

Goodness! This book was such a fantastic surprise. I picked this up spontaneously after an IG friend posted about it. She said, "Get you some pineapple and enjoy." IYKYK 😉 I'm so glad I took her advise.

I loved pretty much everything about this book. I absolutely adored Everett. He was definitely my kind of guy. A bit excessive with the spending but I can't fault a man for spoiling his woman. Plus he was so nasty in the best way. 🥵🔥🔥 But for me, Jo really made this book. She was exactly the woman I would want to be when faced with all the challenges and hardships she encountered along with all the good fortune and wins she recieved. She was smart mouthed yet sweet, sassy yet caring, vulnerable, yet strong. So strong. And she was a fantastic mama.

This has been my top read this month (February 2022) so far and I'm sure it will be a top read of the year!

Now I I'm about to do a deep dive into Alexandria House's blacklist. Happy reading!

This was my first Alexandria House, and I was so excited to finally try one of her books... But I just don't care. I don't feel compelled to keep reading and find out how the book ends. I actually really like Jo and Everett as individual characters, but I feel literally nothing for their romance. They're practically already together and a lot of the external conflict is because of past relationships, which I don't have an interest in reading. Just a lot of meh feelings, and I doubt anything in the back half is gonna change that. AND there are so so many other books I'd rather read than this right now. I gotta move on.

I will definitely try this author again, especially because I liked the main characters so much and her writing mostly worked for me. I think there's a good chance she has a book for me! It just wasn't this one.

First Impressions
Let Me Love You was a type of grab where I have been seeing this book all over the place and I really wanted to give this one a go as I had heard some amazing things about this book and most especially this author. So I instantly grabbed up the audio from Hoopla, and the moment that I started listening, I was so drawn into it. I literally didn’t want to put this one down and I was so caught up in the story and the romance and the writing was so fascinating and the minute that you pick up this one you will then be able to see why it’s such a big book and why so many rave about it. I am definitely seeing it and if you are looking for a well-done quality written romance with diversity then you can’t go wrong with Let Me Love You and I adored the way that this couple comes together and this is my first rapper romance and I am telling you I NEED more in my life.

Summary
The gist of the story is our heroine, Jo Walker, is a single mother and just working on pursuing her career in art and raising her daughter, and just trying to find peace in her life. Her ex is causing her issues and practically abandoned them for his own for his career pursuits, And then she meets the infamous Rap legend “Big South” when she is doing a delivery for her boss and instantly there is a connection but Jo is determined to resist his charms because she can figure out what type he is, a true playboy and she has no interest in that. But Everett has never met a woman like Jo before and is determined to prove to her that he isn’t what she imagines and that he will fight for her and what she deserves. But as Everett and Jo explore their newfound relationship, there are other conflicts that want to bring them down, and only together will they find their path to their HEA…

What I Loved
This was a truly magical romance and I had so much fun with it. From beginning to end these two had me laughing all over the place and it was just delightful. I adored their chemistry and it was so well balanced within the story. We also see the charm of them being both single parents and how well they connect to each other. I really loved that there was this feeling of a fairytale ending for Jo. We see how they are such an unlikely pair but end up complimenting each other so well. I adored both characters and seeing them learning from each other and building a level of trust and intimacy was such a treat. And I absolutely adored Jo’s little girl and how she was so drawn to Everett. I felt like the author placed their child aspects into the story that doesn’t detract from the romance itself. There is plenty of steam and chemistry, I had heard that the steam was super hot, and I would say it’s a moderate level of steam but they are very well written and I felt like they were placed within the story that build the connection on the right level. I also enjoyed seeing the rap culture be such a strong part of this book and seeing how well it was implemented here. I was very impressed by how well done the author handled the various aspects of Black culture and had a level of authenticity and reliability to it. There is a strong vibe of emotion and connection between our two characters and I just wanted them to find their HEA because they both deserved it and the finale was beyond satisfying!

What I Struggled With
Nothing—I loved everything about this book except some minor aspects of the narration.

The Narration
This is a dual narration and boy was it splendid. They both did a fantastic job really portraying the level of emotion and characteristics of the personalities so well. I did have issues with how they handled the sex scenes, just the yells and grunts were strange haha However I felt like they did a good job with handling the culture and the music portrayal very well.

Overall View
I found Let Me Love You to be a winner of a read and is making it to my top lists of the year! This story was beyond incredible and delivered on heart, soul, and the magical growth of intimacy and love that tugged at my heartstring in such a phenomenal way.

Where can I find a man that's obsessed with me like Bigggg South??

Everett & Jo were so damn cute. Their journey to happiness was full of drama ‼️Toxic exs on both ends.

I do not think it needed to be that long tbh some parts dragged.
Overall this was a good read.

Y'all, when I tell you I ate this book UP?! Let Me Love You follows famous rapper "Big South" (aka Everett McClain) and his "hard to get" romance with single mom Jo Walker. These two first meet when Jo is sent by her boss to deliver a custom jewelry piece to Everett's penthouse. She is immediately offended by his words and the evidence of his recent one night stand, and rips him a new one. But all this does is turn Big South on, and he is IMMEDIATELY fascinated with this woman who doesn't give a damn about his money or fame.

Circumstances arise that put them in each other's orbit again. Everett attempts to wine and dine Jo, who ultimately gives into his genuine pursuit. However, the road for them isn't that easy. We still have Jo's ex-husband lurking around and Everett's crazy behind salty ex-wife. Even with all forces working against them, these two stood by each other's side, and I loved it. Everett did not play about Jo or her daughter. He gave her everything she'd ever wanted since she was a child, and I don't mean just money. Jo didn't have much of a family growing up, and Everett is the older of five children. Seeing them take Jo in was heartwarming because she deserved that and more. Likewise, Everett needed someone who saw him as just a man, and not the rapper. He's had his heart broken in the past too, and never thought he'd settle down with anyone again, but Jo completely changed his world for the better.

Can we talk about how hilarious Uncle Lee was?! He is that typical uncle who always has something funny to say! I cracked up every time he said something! I hope he pops up in future books.

Also, this author's SPICE levels were off the CHARTS. That first kiss was everything but them smex scenes?? These two were freaky and I was here for it.

I'll definitely be reading the other books!

TROPES: black romance/OWN voices/BIPOC; famous/rich hero (rapper); single dad hero/single mom heroine; he falls first; love after heartbreak (both H/h); NO 3rd act breakup; possessive hero; plot twists; steamy as HECK; crazy exes; found family; age gap-ish (he's 9-10 years older); mental health rep

TRIGGER WARNINGS: death of a loved one due to suicide; mentions of cheating (not by H/h)

I've read like 2 pages and as a black woman I was expecting from a black romance book something that uplift the black woman experience other than clichés like "she was [...] heavier than her Korean American husband, a damn pit bull" or "she made black women as a whole look bad"
That was unnecessary and insulting. I was expecting much more than that I'm sorry. That's perpetuating harmful stereotypes. That's even more hurtful when it's from a black author and in the first two pages of the book. I can't even keep on reading it, that's too bad.

4.5 Stars!

This was such a sexy, page turner romance! Everett "Big South" McClain absolutely stole my heart. He's a wealthy, famous rapper who hasn't been in a committed relationship in years. Jo is the single mom who catches his eye and he is immediately drawn in by her sassy attitude and the fact that she doesn't seem to care about his celebrity status. This book was HOT! It was also so SWEET and ROMANTIC. Everett's love gestures to Jo were over the top but I was here for it! When a man loves a woman, he needs to show her how he feels. His love for Nat, Jo's daughter also just about melted my heart!

I definitely recommend if you love the celebrity or single parent trope!

All of these people are out of their minds! I have never laughed so much in my life. My son came in the room to see what was going on.

Poor Jo is caught between two famous rappers. First, her sleazy, cheating husband (Sidney), walked out on her when she was six months pregnant, totally ignores their daughter and has the audacity to get angry when rapper Everett (Big South), falls in love with her. So many crazy layers to this story!

Rappers Delight and Love

This was a non love triangle Jo and two heavy hitters in the rap world, Big South and Bugz. It’s was a really interesting story about second chance love and releasing old baggage.
The rappers bravado felt very authentic to me. I liked Jo as she was consistent and loyal.

I liked the writing and I forward to reading other books in this series
