The Schemer is book three in the Harbor City series by Avery Flynn. I fell in love with the second book in this series so there was no hesitation to read this book. And I’m so glad that I did!
Tyler Jacobson grew up on the other side of the harbor. His parents were volatile and never hesitated to take out their tempers on each other and on their only son. When Tyler was awarded a prep school scholarship in Harbor City, he got out as fast as he could and from then on, did everything he could to separate himself from his roots. Tyler’s mind never stops planning, always two steps ahead, proving to everyone that he is more than his parents. That he was successful. But he never really felt like he’d completely accomplished this. He never really felt accepted into the Harbor City Society. He has one more big plan in the works. If he can pull this one off, it will do it. It will finally prove what he is capable of.
Everly Ribinski also grew up across the harbor. But unlike Tyler, she accepts where she came from. It’s a part of her. Everly lives for art. It’s her passion. She is the owner of a fledgling art gallery and lives upstairs in the same building. The first time she laid eyes on her downstairs neighbor, she felt that zing of attraction. But she could tell at first glance that this was the type of guy she needed to stay away from. Men were trouble, especially one with an insatiable drive to be successful.
Everly and Tyler get off to a rough start and start a sort of friendly feud. Tyler can’t cook at all, and frequently burns his cooking attempts. He may have burnt a few things on purpose, knowing it drove his neighbor crazy. Everly has a love of high heeled shoes, shoes that make lots of noise in the apartment below her. So she may have worn those shoes constantly, and stomped around her apartment, knowing she was driving Tyler crazy.
Tyler has a lucky quarter, and has trusted his future to it many times and never been let down. So when Tyler and Everly finally face off, Tyler takes out his lucky quarter and challenges Everly to a coin flip, knowing that his quarter won’t let him down.
“Of all the men in Harbor City, it had to be him who did this to her. And they said the fates had no sense of humor.”
Of course, the competition between them soon turns to lust. Try as they do to ignore it, it was inevitable that the attraction would win. Could they just get it out of their systems, or would it lead to a hunger that couldn’t be filled?
“She’d thought she’d been hot before, she was wrong. This was the face of the sun hot and all she wanted was more.”
This book was so much fun. The feuding between Everly and Tyler was hilarious. But these two also stole my heart. Both had pasts that they wanted to forget and reasons for wanting and needing to make something of themselves in Harbor City. But they were also off the charts hot together. Their chemistry was electric.
“Everly was the one woman who had the ability to tie him right back to the one thing he’d spent most of his life running away from, and if he wasn’t careful he’d go with her, smiling like a happy idiot.”
There is also a side story here between Helene Carlyle and a sort of surrogate father figure to Everly, Alberto Ferranti that I loved. They were so adorable.
This was such a good book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have a ton of distractions going on right now and the fact that even with everything going on, these two stayed on my mind, keeping me coming back and grabbing a few pages every time I could. I still need to go back and catch the first book in the series to get Sawyer’s story.

If there's one thing I took away from this book it's Avery's ability to show rather than tell. Furthermore, the characters are fully dimensioned they appear so real. Yes, at times Tyler's backstory seemed contrived and the situation with Irena was irritating (hence the four stars) but my golly, the story was engaging and Everly the FMC was fun, fun, fun.

In the third book of the Harbor City series, Tyler Jacobson, multi-millionaire friend of the heroes from the first two books, has an upstairs neighbor/tenant, Everly Ribinski, who is driving him insane. She’s constantly clomping around in her high heels, distracting him with her curves, and mouthing off to him with her Riverside accent, every chance she gets. Everly, art gallery owner and friend of Hudson (artist hero from second book), thinks Tyler is a giant, hot, jackass who can’t cook for spit and drives her crazy. So, y’all know how this is going to go….yep, romance happens.
The Good. The enemies to lovers trope is a particular favorite, because arguing as foreplay can be oh so delicious when done right. Everly and Tyler do have good chemistry and good banter, and their Firsts are handled well. The big climactic scene and the (necessary) grovel, was good and gave a nice resolution to the story.
The Bad. I thought I’d love Tyler alot more than I did. His fixation with his social standing, his insistence (in actions and internal monologues) on saying that Everly wasn’t the type of woman he should be involved with, completely justified HER concern for getting involved with a rich man who wouldn’t accept her for who she is. It wraps up relatively well, but it still stuck in my craw and I didn’t love him, which means only one half of this couple was awesome-sauce and that’s a shame.
Everything In Between. While this works as a standalone, it was nice to get a glimpse of the earlier couples and particularly the secondary romance (yes! An honest-to-goodness secondary romance, which rarely happens nowadays) between an older couple that I liked alot.
I liked this story, although The Charmer will remain my favorite of this series. There’s plenty of characters available (hey, hi y’all doing, Hartigans *waves*) that I’d really like to read more about, so I hope there’s more to come with this series. I’d enjoy that.

When I didn't think Avery Flynn could do better than The Negotiator and The Charmer, she brings us The Schemer. Unbelievable! The Schemer was everything that I hoped it would be. I was so sorry to see it end but was really happy with the surprise. You couldn't have shocked me more.
Tyler and Everly were hysterical throughout this story. Too bad she didn't hide who she was or where she came from since that was Tyler's goal in life. He needs to show everyone that he is bigger and better than being from a dysfunctional family on the other side of the tracks. He's been hurt in the past and will never give his heart away again. So, having some fun with Everly will be the perfect solution since neither one of them are looking for a relationship. But, being the schemer that he is, he is going to have to come up with a big one to get Everly to help him and to get her into his bed.
Everly has been nothing but annoyed with her scheming downstairs neighbor. Taking her parking space, burning everything that he puts on the stove and flipping that damn quarter … there is only so much she can take before she ends up in his bed. But, when she finds out the truth about him, she's had enough. Then, why does she defend him and his honor when he is being dissed by that bitch engaged to Carlo? Why does what his thinks matter to her?
These two had me laughing out loud. I was literally waiting to see what they were gong to do next. From the Harley to the Raccoon to the cooking classes, I was smiling to the point my cheeks hurt. I was thrilled that the Carlyle's were all back. Now, who they were supporting throughout this story is still unclear. And, in the end, the biggest schemer of them all, Helene, got exactly what she was hoping to get … and a little more. But, this time she had an accomplice to her matchmaking that was definitely an asset.
So, from the art gallery to the boardroom, Tyler and Everly stole my heart. I've always thought that, without good secondary characters, we would just have dialogue between two people and that would be really boring. The ones that Avery Flynn brought into the story both influenced and supported Tyler and Everly and were insightful and funny. I honestly love The Harbor City series and hope that it, somehow, continues. It's light, funny, sexy and just downright fabulous.

The tagline for this novel is spot on - it really is a hot romantic comedy! It had me laughing out loud as the two main characters interacted. They both have become successful despite their very different but traumatic childhoods in less affluent areas of the city but whilst she is determined not to forget her roots, he has had elocution lessons to leave his accent/dialect behind him. He is Tyler Jacobson and, although Everly Ribinski isn't aware of it to start with, he is the landlord for both her Art Gallery and apartment. Their attraction is there from their first meeting but it isn't until he realises that Everly is friends with someone he wishes to do business with that he manipulates the situation to try to get her to help him..... but one meeting becomes a fake date which leads to much more! As the temperature heats up between them can this couple from the wrong side of the tracks put the past behind them to move on to a future together?
This is a delightful, heartwarming - and hot - steamy contemporary romance with well developed characters and a brilliant, humorous plot. It isn't just one romance, either - get ready for others en route! Much of this story is determined by a flip of a coin. If you consider using the same technique to see if you should read this novel, I hope you get to give it a go. I was impressed by how the author managed to show the very different attitudes to striving to be accepted despite being brought up in a more notorious area - with Tyler trying to leave it well behind him and be recognised for who he is now rather than where he came from. Contrarily, Everly is proud of where she's come from and doesn't try to hide it. With such opposing views is this a match made in heaven or one made in hell?
Tyler's friends have key roles in helping him to face up to his reality and to acknowledge his past. I particularly liked the scene at the wedding where he faces his past and strives to attain the future he needs. This was a great story to escape into and I have no hesitation in highly recommending it.

La verdad es que estuve a punto de abandonarlo varias veces, pero no tenía internet y lo demás que había en mi kindle (muchos muchos ebooks) no me interesaba lo suficiente. No me gustó la historia ni los personajes, y tampoco el abuso de la palabra "schemer" (entendí que Tyler era un maquinador sin necesidad de que lo dijeran cada capítulo).

Story:
Both Tyler and Everly made me swoon! The Schemer - Tyler, thought he had everything he had ever dreamed of. Until Everly moved into the apartment above his. Stomping her high heals at all hours of the day and night, and generally pissing him off. Everly knew from the first time they met that Tyler was not the guy for her. Embarrassed of his humble upbringing, he didn't even speak in his Waterbury accent anymore. And she was a proud Riverside woman. Never one to let her past bring her down!
The Schemer happens just after The Charmer , and I really recommend reading these two stories in order, so that nothing will get spoiled. All the characters from The Negotiator show up here as well, and it was nice to see how they are doing. The overt hostility between Tyler and Everly made their chemistry off the charts. And it also showed that while they were both strong characters, they really wished for love in their life. With the right person, at least.
There is also a secondary romance in The Schemer, with Sawyer and Hudson's mom, and I loved seeing the woman of steel getting swept off her feet. I would have gladly read a full length novel about her, though, so I was a tiny bit disappointed she only got this.
If you're a fan of contemporary romance that involves some strong characters, a good plot and a real story, The Schemer should make its way to your shelf.

Everly is the kind of heroine I wish there were more of in contemporary romance. Even if she had a tough childhood, she wasn't afraid of anything. Apart from falling for the wrong man, like her mom had done. She's a successful woman, and she knows her self worth. I loved how she put herself first, and the relationship she had with her best friend, Kiki. The way she interacted with the other characters also made her both likable and realistic.
Tyler was more of a mystery to me. While I could understand his reasoning, I wanted him to get a clue and just understand that nobody really cared that his childhood was far from ideal. His present success should have been enough for him, but he wanted to reach for more - sometimes not even thinking about what he needed in his personal life.
Writing style :
The Schemer is written in third person point of view, past tense. Tyler and Everly each have their chapters, and there are some from Helene's perspective as well. The dialogues and the hot action were well done, and I got to know the characters well while going on a short part of their journey with them.
Feels :
I was frustrated at times, but that was to be expected, as the characters were frustrated, too. I also felt the chemistry, as well as the hope for something more they all reached for.
The Lakeland Community Center didn't have a lake nearby, but it sat up on a hill and had an amazing view of the harbor. When the wind hadn't whipped off all the leaves from the trees lining the walk up to the front doors, it had to be a great place to sit at the outdoor tables dotting the lawn and play chess, have a coffee, or talk about the good old days when the dinosaurs roamed the earth and milk was fifty cents a gallon.

My least favorite of the series
I really wanted to love this book because I love this enemies to lovers trope. However, for me it just fell flat. I really expected more humor, but there was just a lot of insecurity on Tyler's part because he came from the wrong tracks. He seemed to focus on the wheeling and dealing to make more money to show he belongs in the land of the rich, but it didn't really seem like he enjoyed doing it.
Everly's character was this girl with the attitude who grew up poor and made something of herself, but that's all it seemed like. She seemed really one dimensional. Supposedly her friend is Hudson from the second book, but there really wasn't much interaction with him that it didn't seem like he was really her friend.
The plot of the story sounded really great, but the execution just wasn't there.

Inhalt: „Dealbreaker“ ist der Abschlussband der „Harbor-City“-Trilogie. Geschireben wurde sie von Avery Flynn. Teil drei ist am 30.09.2020 bei LYX erschienen. Man kann die Bände unabhängig voneinander lesen.
Im letzten Band erfahren wir endlich Tylers Geschichte. Er ist ein erfolgsreicher Unternehmens Berater und hat sich von ganz unten nach ganz oben gearbeitet. Er leibt seinen Job und plant alles ganz genau. Er mag keine Überraschungen oder Ablenkungen. Umso weniger passt es ihm, als er eine neue Nachbarin bekommt. Sie ist das komplette Gegenteil von ihm. Laut, temperamentvoll, spontan und chaotisch. Er ist irritiert von ihr und der Anziehung zwischen ihnen. Das passt ihm gar nicht. Immerhin muss er einen wichtigen Deal machen, um endlich von der Gesellschaft als einer der Besten anerkannt zu werden. Als er merkt, dass gerade Evelyn ihm einen großen Vorteil beim Deal verschaffen kann, ist er wenig begeistert und muss seine ganze Taktik nochmal überdenken..
Meinung: Das Cover ist okay. Für mich ist es nichts besonderes, aber es passt zur Geschichte und zu den Covern der ersten beiden Bände. Übersetzt wurde die Geschichte von Hans Link. Der Schreibstil ist gut. Ich muss zugeben, dass ich mit den falschen Erwartungen an dieses Buch gegangen bin. Band zwei habe ich bisher noch nicht gelesen. Dafür aber habe ich Band eins geliebt! Ich fand die Geschichte wirklich witzig und erfrischend. Die Charaktere sind einzigartig gewesen. Genau sowas habe ich auch von diesem Band erhofft. Ich denke hätte ich diese Einstellung nicht gehabt, hätte ich mehr Freude an diesem Buch gehabt. Es war nicht schlecht, aber mir hat das gewisse Etwas gefehlt. Zum Glück gab es auch hier ein bisschen was zu schmunzeln. Die Charaktere fand ich sympathisch. Sie waren das komplette Gegenteil voneinander. Er ist ruhig, in sich gekehrt und auf seine Karriere und gesellschaftlichen Anerkennung konzentriert. Sie ist laut, temperamentvoll, spontan und chaotisch. Er ist ein typischer Büroworkaholic, während sie eine Galerie führt. Die Geschichte wird sowohl aus seiner als auch ihrer Sicht erzählt, so dass man Einsicht in zwei unterschiedliche Personen bekommt. Gerade dank der gegensätzlichen Charaktere ist dies gut so. Die Nebencharaktere sind auch interessant. Meine Lieblingscharakterin ist mittlerweile die Mutter von Sawyer. Sie hat auch hier einige Auftritte. Von den anderen beiden ehemaligen Protagnisten bekommt man nicht mehr viel mit. Eine Sache, die meinen Lesefluss wahrscheinlich auch gedämpft hat, ist die Tatsache, dass Mrs. Carlyle auch ihre eigene Miniliebesgeschichte in diesem Band bekommen hat. Normalerweise stört mich so ein Nebenstrang nicht, aber so wie es in die Geschichte eingebaut wurde, fand ich es ein bisschen unpassend.
Fazit: Der Abschlussband der „Harbor-City“-Reihe konnte meine Erwartungen leider nicht komplett erfüllen. Mit diesem Band kann man einige nette Stunden verbringen und beschert einem gute Laune.

Eine Sache, die meinen Lesefluss wahrscheinlich auch gedämpft hat, ist die Tatsache, dass Mrs. Carlyle auch ihre eigene Miniliebesgeschichte in diesem Band bekommen hat. Normalerweise stört mich so ein Nebenstrang nicht, aber so wie es in die Geschichte eingebaut wurde, fand ich es ein bisschen unpassend.
Fazit: Der Abschlussband der „Harbor-City“-Reihe konnte meine Erwartungen leider nicht komplett erfüllen. Mit diesem Band kann man einige nette Stunden verbringen und beschert einem gute Laune.

Ich bin ehrlich gesagt etwas traurig. Ich mochte die beiden vorherigen Bände echt gerne. Das hier aber so gar nicht. Naja, anyways ich fand die beiden Charaktere ziemlich flach, wenn ich ehrlich sein darf. Sie ist Galeriebesitzerin und liebt Kunst, er hat sich aus dem Mittelstand hochgearbeitet und verleugnet seine Herkunft und das ist das einzige was die beiden so richtige charakterisiert. Die Beziehung der beiden war für mich auch nicht wirklich greifbar. Sie haben sich gehasst, dann kam sexuelle tension dazu ... die sie irgendwann ausgelebt haben und plötzlich lieben sie sich am Ende. Auch ziemlich flach, meiner Meinung nach. Atmosphärisch war es auch nicht wirklich, meist waren sie einfach in einer Wohnung oder ähnlichem. Der Schreibstil war normal, dadurch, dass mir aber Handlung, Charaktere etc. nicht zugesagt haben, hab ich an dem Buch nicht wirklich Freude gehabt. The Schemer by Avery Flynn is a well written and entertaining read.
I enjoyed the storyline, it held my interest from start to end and I liked the all characters.
Tyler and Everly were likable characters that entertained me with their banter, and sexual tension. These two made me laugh, swoon and they also annoyed me a few times. Especially Tyler.
I know he had issues from his childhood, and I did feel for him but it felt like he spent so much time in his head and putting down his old neighborhood that it started to take some of the fun away from the book.
I found myself connecting more with Everly's character, I liked how she owned who she was, where she came from and didn't give into the pressure of being someone else to be accepted amongst the rich and famous.
Everly was perfect for Tyler, her passion and honesty made Tyler open his heart and see what everyone else saw, that he was a good man who had lost his way.
The Schemer is a good addition to the Harbor City series, each book can be read as a standalone and I highly recommend them all.

The Schemer by Avery Flynn is book Three in the "Harbor City" series. This is the story of Tyler Jacobson and Everly Ribinski . This is easily a standalone book.
Tyler and Everly live in the same building and have been butting heads. They both know hardships growing up so they do hae things in common and there is attraction there. But they don't let themselves get past their head butting. But when Tyler learns that Everly could be a key part of him getting a business deal he wants her help. Everly of course doesn't go along with it a first until he points out a few important things to her that could impact her. So she agrees to help him which opens them up to spending more time together and feelings to start to take off.
This was a really funny hot romance. Really enjoyed their story!

It makes me sad to give 3 stars to this book, but I don't feel like I should give it the 4 stars I normally would have. Why? Because of Tyler. He was so focused on forgetting his roots and becoming one of the men with the money whose kids didn't need the scholarship to attend the school he had. I wasn't able to like him to be honest. And I didn't like the way he treated Everly after she tried to defend him. She stood up for him and he said some mean stuff to her. Everly is my poor baby and Tyler is a bad and mean person. Now, I hope you realize why I cannot give a higher rating to this book. I cannot give a good rating to a book where I didn't like the hero.
I enjoyed every mention of his cooking though. The book got a lot of points for the humor it had. Everly was a good heroine and she was also one of the strong points of this book. I liked the rivalry between her and Tyler in the beginning. Honestly, the only sore spot of this book was Tyler, so I think many readers will enjoy this book.

This book.... where do I start? Let's start with Avery who almost had me wetting my self laughing one minute and tossing my kindle at one point the next! This book is a must read. I loved this book. My favorite out of this series without a doubt.
You read the blurb, I'm not going to regurgitate that, no need. Let me start with Tyler who is a real pisser. He's successful, hot as Hades and a tad insecure. And he's a challenge with a capital C. Holy nuts he's a challenge. Tyler owns the building that Everly has just moved into, apartment above his and renting ground level space for her art gallery, which is pretty successful. Everly is from the other side of the bridge. The place where Tyler came from and is running so fast to distance himself from.
It's as though the hounds of hell trail him at times. Tyler was given a leg up by a prep school scholarship and made himself successful. He's best friends with Hudson and Sawyer (from the first two books and if you haven't read them, they are both must reads). Everly has a penchant for high heels. She walks around her apartment in them. Which among other things drives Tyler nuts.
He's got it pretty bad for Everly, but with Tyler everything is a coin toss. In his mind it takes the emotion out of the equation. I thought that was interesting. Tyler also knows how to toss this coin to make it come out inches favor. So Everly can't wear her heels in her apartment, not can she park in a large parking spot close the the entrance, quickly nixed by Tyler when he camped out in a lawn chair in the spot, coin toss, Everly is relegated to the far end of the parking lot in the dark and has to parallel park!! I'd have punched him just for that. These two are hysterical. The antics and his behavior. Everly is just herself and I loved her. Her best friend caters her openings and Helene Carlyse is a huge supporter as well. She's known Tyler since the boys were all in school together.
When Tyler finds out that a certain businessman is going to be at Everly's showing, Tyler makes it a point to show up. He wants this man's business. Or at least a chance to speak with him. When he sees Everly with him and then understands the friendship between he and Ev, Tyler's wheels spin. He is ever the Schemer. He takes scheming to a whole new level. Add to this is Alberto is a good friend to Everly and also interested in the lovely Helene who's been a widow for 3 years. I loved the two of them. Helene is a matchmaker of sorts an Alberto is just as bad.
Back to the story.... Tyler's ex is now engaged to Alberto's son Carlo. Tyler had told Ev about her and when she meets her at a dinner is compelled to tell both Carlo and Alberto. Carlo assures her it's a business arrangement. This freaking witch on a broom made Tylers life hell at every encounter and Everly politely took up for him. She was itching to let her other side of the bridge upbringing loose on this b$%^& but held back.
Tyler's focus was winning Alberto over and isn't above using Everly, ever so gently to get what he wants. Very little emotion from him. They sure can steam up the parking garage, wall, kitchen and wherever else, but Tyler puts nothing else forth. He's just up for the fun. Meanwhile Ev is falling for him a little.
So as all great stories the proverbial crap hits the fan, caused by Irena the ex. Everly stands up for him, it all seemed relatively normal considering Irena was such a rag. But Tyler lost his sh** and that's the end for Everly. Always mindful of the words of her sweet Nunni who is in a care facility reminding her to watch men because they just take and leave you with nothing. I loved there relationship and bingo night.
Tyler has dug his own grave and no one is helping him out of the hole he's in. He's under pressure to try and complete the business plan for Alberto and just isn't functioning. He looks like a beast and nt very pleasant.
That scene at the Gala where Irena starts in on Tyler and Everly nicely speaks good about him and his reaction to her made me stop reading I was so angry with him. Rather than throwing the kindle which I've been known to do and trust me it was tempting, I just closed it and told myself to take a break. Yes I was blistering angry. Avery wrote him so well. Both he and Everly are very real characters. You probably know someone like them. She also wrote Everly to a T and I loved it.
Obviously the story continues but I'm done here. No spoilers and I've rambled long enough.
I can only say READ THIS BOOK! Read the first two, but this one just blew me away. Avery thanks for reeking havoc on my nervous system for a couple days. It's a phenomenal read and I can say no more than that. You'll devour it and won't put it down. Definitely deserves more than 5 stars.

The Schemer is the fun and addictive tale of Everly and Tyler. Two people who managed to make it across the tracks.
Everly is a proud woman. She cares for her ill grandmother and has worked her butt off for what she has. Tyler pulled himself from a bad household and went on to become something. He carries some baggage with him, baggage that is tightly packed and hard to unload. The two are explosive with chemistry.
A small part of The Schemer is another romance, involving Helene, the mother of Tyler's friends who we've met in previous books. I was a bit disappointed to see her get a slice of this novel, as she could have easily filled a book herself. Nevertheless, I was excited to see another couple, at such a different point in their lives, falling at the same time as Tyler and Everly. At times, I was thinking about reading ahead to see where Helene was.
Overall, I loved The Schemer. It was fun, engaging and unexpected. The Schemer has a developed plot and was written well. It paced evenly, but an overall quick read. It is the third in a series, but a complete standalone. Its fun to have read the previous books, but not a requirement. I would recommend to the reader looking for a fast, sexy, read.

Crazy fun, sweetly sexy, emotionally thrilling and surprisingly real not looking to fall in love romantic journey. Complete with a secondary romance that has a delectable sizzle that is all its own and was very engaging to read. Visiting the whole gang again and finding some new and very intriguing charters, loved it!
Tyler Jacobson is the wiz kid from the wrong side of the tracks that made millions and is doing his damnedest not to look back. Then in to his life comes Everly Ribinsk this sexy, sassy and hard to ignore gallery owner that owns her working class roots and proudly displays them. The chemistry is of the charts and the dialogue is whitey and real. Loved everything about this enemies to lovers romance.

Tyler Jacobsen is a millionaire business man who lives in Harbor City, but grew up on the "other side of the tracks". He's been struggling for years to shed his background and have people see him for who he is now.
Everly Ribinski is from the "other side of the tracks" and proud of it. She has the accent (which is apparently a bad thing when you live in Harbor City), despite being the owner of an upscale art gallery. She lives above Tyler in her apartment building, and they don't get off to the best start.
If I had one complaint about this book, it would be that there were TOO many characters to keep track of. We have Everly and Tyler, but then there is a side story about Helene and Alberto, Alberto's son Carlo and his fiancé Irena, then there are Helene's kids, and so on. It was confusing, especially since I didn't read the first two books in the series.
Anyway, back to this story. I enjoyed the banter between Everly and Tyler, and it was fun to watch them fall in love, despite the fact they both were in denial about it. There was a side story with Irena, who was Tyler's ex-fiancée that I found pretty stupid. It just wasn't necessary.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and would recommend it.

5 Candi Kisses and a Bonus Love Story
LOVED this story. Avery has such a humor and life in her writing you feel like you jumped into the story.
Well built characters and secondary characters are always Avery's strength. She weaves a tale that just begs to go on and on. I felt like a voyeur, a socialite and a kids from the hood all at the same time.
Can't wait for the next book. Avery is a go to author for me. Thanks for a great story.

Now, this is a very frustrating story to begin with. While reading The Negotiator, the first book of Harbor City series and the one that I got the chance to meet Avery's Flynn function world come to life, I fell in love with it. I was immediately impressed by the author's interesting writing talent and I promised not to miss the chance to read the next book of the series, which in the end unfortunately missed.
The Schemer was my chance to find out if my first impression was still... unchangeable. Yes, is still is! Yet what I have in The Schemer is this frustrating feeling after I finish reading it. While the plot was incredible interesting and spine-tingling I had a feeling that something is missing. I bet it is the sex scenes! I think the tension about having sex with the sex scenes per se weren't matched enough. I wanted to be more but that is only my opinion.
Tyler Jacobson is our Schemer! He is the most arrogant, frustrating, cocky, eye candy of a man I never believed excisted. Well, of course he has serious reasons to act the way he is but, jeez, most of the times he was over the line, mostly unjustified, trying to get his way the one way or the other. He indeed needed the right type of woman to put him in his place and what a sight he was when that happened!
Everly Ribinski, on the other hand, is our bad-ass woman warrior! Yes that's her. She is an independent, fierce woman who doesn't stop to any man's comments. She stands to herself and run over them in no time. My kind of girl!!! Everly is a woman who embraced her origin, kept it tight with both hands and move forward having her head high. Her childhood transformed her to the woman she is now. Until she let her nemesis to take a hold of the soft spot she kept in her heart for the ones she cares with the risk to destroy it.
The Schemer has a heartwarming, mindful story inside it yet I believe connecting there two characters was a joy and a challenge for the author as for me while reading about them. Combining the frustrating, full of himself Tyler with the stubborn, always ready for challenge Everly was meant to create the most surreal story. They aren't perfect for each other, both have trust issues, still they have this mysterious aura that pulled them together. As the story unfolds it was really difficult not to fell for them, ache for them, want them to have the end they deserve. It was inevitable! In the meantime, there is an unexpected yet very welcome development about an other well-known character of the series. You wouldn't believe it yourselves! Two HEAs in one package, can you believe it?
I hope I intrigued your imagination a little and make you grab the book, finding out what's really happening because there is no way to tell you myself.

I was immediately impressed by the author's interesting writing talent and I promised not to miss the chance to read the next book of the series, which in the end unfortunately missed.
The Schemer was my chance to find out if my first impression was still... unchangeable. Yes, is still is! Yet what I have in The Schemer is this frustrating feeling after I finish reading it. While the plot was incredible interesting and spine-tingling I had a feeling that something is missing. I bet it is the sex scenes! I think the tension about having sex with the sex scenes per se weren't matched enough. I wanted to be more but that is only my opinion.
Tyler Jacobson is our Schemer! He is the most arrogant, frustrating, cocky, eye candy of a man I never believed excisted. Well, of course he has serious reasons to act the way he is but, jeez, most of the times he was over the line, mostly unjustified, trying to get his way the one way or the other. He indeed needed the right type of woman to put him in his place and what a sight he was when that happened!
Everly Ribinski, on the other hand, is our bad-ass woman warrior! Yes that's her. She is an independent, fierce woman who doesn't stop to any man's comments. She stands to herself and run over them in no time. My kind of girl!!! Everly is a woman who embraced her origin, kept it tight with both hands and move forward having her head high. Her childhood transformed her to the woman she is now. Until she let her nemesis to take a hold of the soft spot she kept in her heart for the ones she cares with the risk to destroy it.
The Schemer has a heartwarming, mindful story inside it yet I believe connecting there two characters was a joy and a challenge for the author as for me while reading about them. Combining the frustrating, full of himself Tyler with the stubborn, always ready for challenge Everly was meant to create the most surreal story. They aren't perfect for each other, both have trust issues, still they have this mysterious aura that pulled them together. As the story unfolds it was really difficult not to fell for them, ache for them, want them to have the end they deserve. It was inevitable! In the meantime, there is an unexpected yet very welcome development about an other well-known character of the series. You wouldn't believe it yourselves! Two HEAs in one package, can you believe it?
I hope I intrigued your imagination a little and make you grab the book, finding out what's really happening because there is no way to tell you myself.

Tyler Jacobson has gotten to where he wants to be by being a smart scheming businessman. Reaching his goals and being more successful is his priority.
A relationship is the last thing on his mind. But when it comes to his curvy and fiery neighbor, he just can't seem to get her off his mind.
Everly Ribinski, his the new tenant with the captivating face and don't-mess-with-me attitude. Everly owns a gallery and art is her passion.
She's had a rough upbringing but she never wants to forget where she came from. I liked her immediately. She is a strong heroine and knows what she wants. But not when it comes to Tyler.
These two don't really hit it off upon their first encounter, but they can't seem to ignore the attraction they feel towards each other.
I really enjoyed the side characters a whole lot. They were sweet and engaging. (Most of them, at least) The thing is, I seemed to like them more than the main couple.
I had a difficult time getting into this book. I found the beginning a bit rambly and the rest of the story was repetitive and lacking character growth.
As I mentioned above, I liked Everly. I just didn't like the hero. His thought process was one I didn't agree with and he didn't redeem himself in my eyes. I guess he finally snapped out of it because there was about 8% left in the book and time was a ticking.
This book also dealt with some sensitive issues that I imagine were to endear these characters to me, but I just didn't feel it.
I don't enjoy writing a negative review but this book just missed the mark for me.

Ich habe diesen Teil wirklich mehr als geliebt muss ich sagen.
Tyler und Everly sind einfach zu göttlich meiner Meinung nach. Man hat es schon in Band 2 geahnt, aber es wurde für mich übertroffen.
Die beiden kleinen Zankhähne sind der Knaller, wenn sie auf einander treffen fliegen die Fetzen aber zum Glück nur im wörtlichen Sinne. Obwohl die Klamotten später auch noch folgen.
Tyler weiss was er will bzw was er noch erreichen will und wo sein Weg hinführt und wo dieser nicht mehr zurück geht. Doch grad Everly erinnert ihn an eine Seite von ihm, die er für schlecht hält.
Everly steht mit beiden High-Heels fest im Leben. Sie hat hart für ihr Leben gekämpft und lässt sich nicht unterkriegen. Ihre Wurzeln stören sie nicht im mindesten, sie haben sie eher stärker gemacht. Doch Tyler verkörpert etwas wovon sie besser die Finger lassen sollte.
Doch die beiden können schon bald nicht mehr die Finger von einander lassen.
Ich habe mich nicht nur über deren Wortgefecht köstlich amüsiert sondern auch wegen Tylers fehlender Kochkunst, die zu äußerst witzigen Situationen führen.
Ich fand den Band in vielerlei Hinsicht toll, die Auseinandersetzung gegen Ende fand ich sehr realitätsnah und war nicht überspitzt dargestellt.
Neben Tyler und Everly gibt es noch ein Pärchen welches zueinander findet, was ich mega genial fand.
Avery Flynn gehört mittlerweile zu den Autorinnen wo ich nicht mehr dran vorbei gehe. Klasse flüssiger Schreibstil und tolle Lovestory, was will man da mehr.

What a great read! I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderfully written romcom. It left me smiling, recalling the banter between the two lead characters who had much more in common than they originally thought. Two strong personalities with things in their past that they are trying to kept in the past, looking at their future, each a bit differently but the same none the less. Both from the other side of town, making it on the more influential side of town when they meet. Sparks begin to fly, both internally and verbally as the two throw quick barbs but leaving them wondering what is wrong not only with the other person, but with themselves for thinking what they are thinking about the other. The attraction is instant, but they refuse to give in to their thoughts.
These characters are amazingly written and you will fall in love with "2B" Everly and "3B" Tyler, who just happens to own the apartment building. Tyler is drop dead gorgeous, smart, wealthy by his own hands and wears his confidence like he wears his suits! Everly is a beauty, smart and savvy when it comes to art, has a smart mouth, quick wit and carries herself on loud clicking stilettos that Tyler can hear from the ceiling/floor that they share. She does it just to tick him off. Their games begin and coin flipping (Tyler style) begin.
Are you interested yet??? Well, wait until you read about what happens in the parking garage! Yea, I knew that would pique your interest.
This is a wonderful story, funny and one that will keep you smiling all the way through (except for the few times that you want to slap someone). I highly recommend this book!!

Gah! Totally loved this! The third and hopefully not the final installment of the Harbor City was so darn cute and funny I couldn't put it down. Tyler Jacobson is a schemer of note. Always plotting and planning, he is six steps ahead of everyone else. He meets his match with feisty art gallery owner Everly Ribinksi - his upstairs neighbor. When one disastrous meet up leads to a battle of wills, things turn decidedly interesting and entertaining.
They were perfectly matched. Two strong willed, stubborn and independent people who think they have everything figured out. What starts out as fun taunts with good comebacks turns into something neither of them saw coming. It was a great and entertaining story that kept me chuckling and smiling throughout.
I'm hoping characters like the Hartigan brothers, Kiki and Heath get their own stories.

I tried. So very, very hard to like this book.
But, I just didn't. The idea that they disliked one another, ok...but when it continued past the first time there was a connection, it started to annoy me and made it difficult for me to connect with the characters. I think, in the desire to make it a comedy the romance and the heat of the story was lost.
When I found myself skimming the sex scene, I realized that I just didn't have the engagement with the story and the characters that was necessary for me to be able to continue with the story.
