Critical thinking and comprehension questions, fun facts, and charming illustrations show readers how people plant, grow, and harvest pumpkins. Readers will also see some of the fun and delicious ways to use pumpkins in fall.
Martha E. H. Rustad is the author of more than one hundred nonfiction children's books, on topics ranging from snowflakes to termites to Ancient Babylon. She lives with her family in Brainerd, Minnesota.
They managed to make pumpkins not fun. Again with the awkward recall questions and then some things are oversimplified (pumpkin pie making process does not mention any other ingredients, etc.) and some overly detailed (planting and growing process, which happens in spring...). Meh. Ages 4-6.
This is a great introduction to young readers about how pumpkins are grown. It's simple enough that I am going to try it at my preschool storytime. I like how there is some diversity in the characters depicted, and that you can make the story longer and more scientific for older readers, or keep it short for wiggly little ones. A good choice for a STEAM or autumn storytime!
