S.L Gray is a recent Instagram find to me. I entered a new phase in my life, and have found poetry, particularly love poetry, intriguing. After reading just a couple of her poems, I was hooked - the words invoked feelings that resonated so personally, I felt like I had to add her book to my collection. This is the first poetry book, behind Shel Silverstein, that I felt was worth the purchase. And it lives up to the title.

The book is split into 3 sections, untitled, but defined loosely by the love, breakup and the healing phase. Some of the poems can live anywhere, really, regardless of the phase.

"All we want is for a single soul to see who we are in the darkness and not reach for a light"
"Be broken but still love easy like you are breathing in air. And, though your heart may feel like it is black and blue, still love like it is beating vibrantly red"

Occasionally, there are some really beautiful lines, and some beautiful poems, but a lot of them feel unfinished, like thoughts put onto a page and never looked at again.

I am so in-love with both of S.L. Gray’s books. She put all of my feelings that I could not articulate myself into words and I’d never felt more understood and comforted.

This book helped me through a devastating heart break and is now a wonderful reflection of my own personal growth.

Absolutely recommend this book, the next, and anything else she’ll hopefully produce.

“Here’s to us.

The ones caught
too easily,

the ones with
no defense,

the ones
much too vulnerable
when love
presents itself.”

She understands my heart. And it’s comforting to read a book like that.

Skin, Bones, and Too Much Love by S L Gray
⭐⭐⭐⭐

I bought this collection of poems due to my absolute adoration of @s.l._gray and their posts. I have loved their writing from afar and finally bought the books.

This collection of poems is so beautifully written and relatable! Each section was raw and emotive. It followed a different theme but as a whole was this breathtaking story of love and loss.

I love how each poem flowed into one another and created this story of falling completely in love with someone with every fibre of your being and then having that shattered and finally learning to love yourself. The writing style and choice of words are so careful it is evident that S L Gray loves every poem they write.

Some quotes feel like just a few lines on a page. Others make you smile and warm your heart ♡.

Beautiful

This book is the proof that love can be as beautiful as paint full and no matter how much you love someone or how hard you want to be with someone, you always have to choose you.

This book was really good. I almost always enjoy poetry books and this was no exception. But sadly, it didn't reach the top. The story overall was okay but there were only a few poems that piqued my interest particulary. But that few poems were top-notch for me.

It is always a pleasure to read S.L. Gray’s poetry! This is a lovely book. The first section was not necessarily my favorite (however I did dogear a few poems), but the second and third sections definitely spoke to me. I love the strength in the authors words.

Lovely. Me ha encantado. Le daría 6⭐. Es lo primero que leo de S.L. Gray y qué bien escribe/transcribe/transmite. Tenía muho hype por leerlo y ahora que por fin lo he podido leer, sé que lo leeré más veces. 💜

Poetry is universal and this book attests to that. From the early rush of butterflies amidst falling in love, the angst and other complex emotions after that stage, finding your own power and standing up to it, an oh, the wonder and tragedy of being human: this book has it all.

What was a good idea ended as poor execution. Trendy musings and scribbling, far away from calling it poetry.Of over 100k instagram followers, only a couple picked up the book.Makes one wonder indeed.
