Chocolate series:
Cream of Sweet #1 - This is my first read by this author and I was disappointed. The name of the shop is horrible, although it's explained. Besides the shop's name, I found I didn't care at all about the undeveloped and dithering characters or the simplistic storyline or the poor caliber of the writing style. 2*

Death Over Spilt Chowder #7 - After reading two books by this author already and being disappointed, I decided to give her one more shot since this book is her latest release in her Chocolate Cozy series. Forcing myself to read at least fifty percent, I had difficulty immersing myself into the simplistic story or liking the dithering characters and the worn out plot, along with ignoring the corrections needed.

The attempted PC that's forced on readers telling them to behave a certain way seems to be a favorite theme for Ms. Meadows; tell your story, don't instruct your readers how they should respond. Your characters aren't consistent with their actions when following PC anyway. Needs editing, especially titles, if using old expressions, use them correctly and check on the definition of a word before it's usage, same for hyphened words. I found this book on Booksprout. 2*
Chocolate series end.

Nether Edge series:
Murder & Spice #1 - I found this to be a typical, simplistic cozy, which had the same set up (formula) as found in Cream of Sweet, with the exception the main character is a bumbling, ditzy witch. The other characters were underdeveloped and dithering making it hard to care about any of the them, including the Texan. The silly storyline and poor writing style weren't for me. 2*

In this wonderful collection of the first 6 books in the Chocolate Cozy Mystery series you get amazing mysteries filled with twists and turns, sweet confections, wonderful characters and a safe read.

You get books one thru six: Cream of Sweet, Itsy-Bitsy Murder, Fudgment Day, A’s in the Hole, Sugar and Price and Fitness Witness. Each of these stories are short, safe, and sweet. They only take an hour or so to read, but a filled with excitement and adventure. Just when you think you know who the bad guy is, there is a twist and you get surprised.

Each of these stories are written into the same world, with the same characters but you do not have to read them in order to understand them or to fully enjoy them. I read them out of order just to make sure. I loved how the author builds the characters and their world and I would love to work in this confection shop. I always look forward to this author’s works because they are clean, safe, simple, fast and completely enjoyable. There are wonderful “in between” stories or when you have a waiting time and need a short story to fill in.

Chocolate Cosy Mysteries by Wendy Meadows boxed set 1-6
Cream Of Sweet book 1
Itsy-Bitsy Murder book 2
Fudgement Day book 3
A’s In The Hole book 4
Sugar And Price book 5
Fitness Witness book 6
I have been reading all these mystery murder books one after another as I bought the boxed set. Olivia has a chocolate shop named Block-A-Choc that she began after a divorce. She loves four things in her life, her son at college Sebastian, her Rescue dog Dodgy, the three A’s who work for her AND her chocolates that are all handmade! Unfortunately bad luck in the form of dead bodies keep appearing in front of Olivia and she feels compelled to solve the mysteries to keep people safe! Detective Keane somehow had gotten on the wrong side of Olivia when they first met and now he treats her as a thorn in his side. He never gives her gratitude for solving crimes, only turning red faced and looking about ready to explode. Jake, a friend of Alberta is a real private investigator and he and Olivia work well together. These well paced interesting books I thoroughly enjoy. I bought this book and the review is entirely my own.

Boxed set flows nicely into each story. The town comes across as lovely and quirky. Some mysteries were easy to solve and others had a nice twist.
However, you would need to read this as a boxed set, continuity of character references would be confusing. Such as the three A’s which is explained in book one. Jake the PI comes across as spineless. For a man who has meant to have years of Private Investigator work he comes out like a snivelling child and Olivia as the overbearing mother. It was difficult to believe their fondness for each other.

Murder, mayhem & chocolates?

Olivia Cloud and her male friend and partner in solving crimes, Jake Martin, have some scary situations in this group of who-done-its. Olivia has a knack for getting on the nerves of the police when she insists on digging into the investigation one too many times. The thing is though, she's just so good at it!

Interesting Collection

I have to like my sleuth to enjoy a book. Sorry Wendy Meadows but I don't like Elvira. She would make a good acquaintance but not a good friend. Too stubborn and never listens to anyone. How does she manage to run a good chocolate shop when she is hardly there?

Great little mysteries with wonderful characters. I love this is set around the chocolate shop. I love chocolate! Is she really one of the food groups!

These characters were adorable and I really liked reading about them. I hope we can see more of them. Definitely worth a read!

The book was very interesting and I enjoyed reading them. In Murder and Spice and Where Pig Fly although it was a murder mystery, I couldn't stop laughing some of the things that was happening and some of the things they said was very funny. Enjoyed the books.

I read a sample only. The writing felt rough to me, very beginner author that is learning to plot a story. I felt that there were many gaps and the flow felt forced and unnatural. The story was there and it was interesting, but it was almost bare and unpolished.
