DNF. Only rating this much because I enjoyed the first so much. The series went so far downhill. I’m so very annoyed with how it has turned out, and not like an annoyed because it’s good sort of way. The author had a bad habit of going in circles in the 3-3!!!-books she had written so far. The main h and H have hardly more than kiss and the main characters love toward him is unreasonable if not obsessive. She does not seem like a woman in love, but rather a stalker who her unfortunate victim can not escape due to his circumstances. Ni matter how hard he tries to push her away she stalks this poor man. And it’s disgusting. I was cringing with embarrassment through much of it, like, why are you doing these things? I ignored in the first two books that despite the fact she is supposedly a genius, her antics are often juvenile and idiotic. I ignored the first FORCED half baked love triangle. And then I got to this repeated cycle of garbage. Why tf did the author add ANOTHER male love interest if she was LITERALLY going to toss him aside without chance as she did the first two books to her Dr colleague? (He was literally so unimportant and forgettable I can’t even remember his name) Like she LITERALLY HAD A SCENE WITH THE TWO MEN SITTING BESIDE EACH OTHER IN A BAR DESCRIBING HOW SIMILAR THEY WERE. Like no lie she described both men as being similar in appearance and personality. Because they are. THE SAME PERSON. You are repeating yourself! This already happened In book 1 and 2. We get it, you love Gavin. What was the point of this new character? Its poor writing is what it is. You want a love triangle? Fine! But don’t make it so brain numbing or obvious who is going to picked. It’s insulting to the audience. Why write the book description like it’s going to be a love triangle or competition of affection when it so obviously isn’t?
And another thing, if you are going to make your characters one way (and not have any character growth. Which she doesn’t FYI) don’t change the character for no reason. So the author described this girl as being antisocial, without friends, and downright strange... yet no matter where she goes a million people either want to be her friend or her in her pants. It doesn’t fit her character description and development, and it doesn’t make sense. I understand character growth, but this isn’t it. It’s like the main h is shying away from new people every second (which was supposedly why she was friend-less her whole life) to now being surrounded and adored by everyone. It’s just not great writing. You want a popular, cool, genius (apparently) main character? Write one! Don’t act like the audience is dumb and say this individual is one way and write your story another. Not cool. I definitely Will not be finishing this story or the rest of the series...

(hoopla) Really enjoying this dystopian set. Clean. Action packed. Angsty. Megan realizes how pathetically idiotic her deal was from the end of the last book, and spends this entire book fixing that mistake, and reaching for the bigger dream. Once again, the ending leaves me wanting to yell at Meg because for a girl with 2 PHD's that is supposedly highly intelligent, she has no common sense! I really hope things work out for her eventually because, Davin is right, she is way too self sacrificing and it must be killing him that he's never really been able to do anything for her (other than be her emotional support doggy)... I'm hoping Davin can make a grand gesture or something now that he's free. 🤷‍♀️ Alright - onto book 4...

The third book Section 12 in the Makanza series by Krista Street, consists of even more repetitions than the second book. At least 70% of the book repeats what we already read in book 1 and 2. Like I am an imbecile.
The story again presents nothing new. The fantasy elements again are only a side issue. The heroine is the hero of the day, trying to safe the world, while all other characters contribute nothing to the plot at all. After the second disappointing cliffhanger, the heroine continues her pursuit to achieve her goal freeing the “Kazzies”, sadly to say, it hurts to even watch her doing it. Her clumsy and idiotic way of doing it, isn’t much fun to read. Her way of not considering the consequences, her way of dramatising everything, doesn’t make the book more suspenseful, it makes the heroine look unattractive. Foremost as the plot is absolutely predictable and therefore boring as hell.
The romance dabbles along, no development there, besides in the heroines head. She gets rejected over and over again. And has obviously no self preservation or self respect at all. The finale this time, wasn’t that bad, predictable yes, but disappointingly one page short. The cliffhanger this time was again b-o-r-i-n-g, predictable and overdramatised as well.

Section 12 continues the struggles for civil rights for Kazzies, those mutated by a virus that decimated the country. Krista Street does a remarkable job of bringing the characters and all they are going through to the reader in such a way that we are emotionally divested in them. I went through all the emotions reading this book.
Meghan continues her struggle to free the Kazzies and ensure they get their rights back as US citizens. Just because they have been changed by a virus, that there is now a vaccine for, does not mean they are no longer humans. The Kazzies put up with being quarantined before the vaccine was developed for the safety of the population as a whole but once they no longer posed a medical threat they just wanted what we all want, freedom to really live.
I could easily see this happening today. Krista reminds us in her writing that as a society we need to remember that those different from us should not be treated as anything other than humans because they are just that.

I got a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I think this series is just a bit too drawn out. I think it could have been done as a trilogy instead of as four, and I do like my books smuttier, so that would have improved this book too, but I get if it was YA they were shooting for if can't be smutty. Also the miscommunication or lack of communication stuff annoys me as a reader... But it's still super common in books. I will read the last book to read the ending and see if they finally bang but I am getting a bit tired.

I'm only ONE book away from finishing the series! 😭💔 this series has been my first of 2024 and the first one I've read in a long, long time.

I really couldn't understand how Meghan thought Dr. Evil incarnate would ever keep up his promise and avoid hurting the Kazzies in any way? Like...HELLO, he'd been doing that for YEARS without any semblance of remorse! What made her think he'd change? That was FAR beyond naive from her part 😒

I LOVED the relationship between Meghan and Sharon, Davin's mom ❤ her relationship with both her parents seemed founded on pretenses at first, which made them — and especially her mom — suddenly showing interest in her life and wellbeing feel a bit strange 🤔 I hope book 4 will delve deeper into why her mother was so indifferent throughout her life, and why she decided to change that all of a sudden.

I didn't like the turn things took with Ian, just like Mitch before him. They both seemed like nice guys, and Meghan did have an inkling about their feelings for her, but instead of putting things straight from the very beginning, she let the situation grow to an uncomfortable degree, especially with Mitch 😞💔 had she confessed being in love with someone else, she wouldn't have had to tiptoe around both men's feelings 😕

Davin also got on my nerves in this tome 😤 I get he wanted her to have a normal life and be happy — with him out of the picture — but then the letters were brought up and I was like...SERIOUSLY?! I have a theory: so at first, he thought she'd really moved on and started dating Mitch, which btw, was the most irrational thought ever! How could she move on mere few weeks after they parted ways, and after ALL she'd gone through to free him and the others? My guess was that he thought if they had a chance, however slim, at being freed he could start over with the sender of those letters since being with Meghan was "no longer" possible 😒. OR, he simply needed familiarity back in his life. Eitherway, Meg found out and you can guess what happened next 🤷🏻‍♀️

Wow! I waited for this third book with much anticipation and was thrilled to be able to read it straight away. There is so much to this story. It details the treatment of a group of Makanza virus carriers(Kazzies) by people in charge who hate and fear them. Then there’s the loved ones and family members who only want their Kazzies freed. And Meghan, the young super brain scientist who falls in love with Davin, one of the Kazzies under her care while finding an immunisation against Makanza. She works tirelessly to free all of these people and especially Davin. And boy does she have her work cut out for her! The depth that people who are “different” can be marginalised can be seen all through this story. The Kazzies have a variety of abilities and many look different as well. Ms Street makes her characters rich and full bodied, enough so you can love the good ones and really dislike the bad. I love that the dialogue is so natural and normal. It’s easy to almost live in the time and places the author takes us. This is a brilliant third novel in an unforgettable series. Now to wait for the finale!

I loved reading the first two books in the Makanza Series, and the third book, Section 12, does not disappoint! Krista Street grabs you and takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions.

In this third book, we are able to get to know Meghan even better; her flaws, weaknesses, courage, love, and yes, stupidity. I get so frustrated with her at times! (See, these characters are almost real to me.) I got so involved with the book, I read it in one sitting. Granted, it was a long sitting, but I just couldn't put it down! Just a word of warning, watch out for the end....

I am anxiously waiting for the fourth book in the series. I enjoyed it so much, I can really recommend the series.

I received this ebook free from the author. I was not asked to write a positive review. The opinions are my own. Receiving a complimentary ecopy did not affect my review of this book.

“When one door closes, find another. And what if there isn't another door? Then you try a window. And what if there's not a window? Then you find a sledgehammer and make a window. Life isn't supposed to be easy. Generally speaking, the harder something is the more rewarding the results will be.” -C.C. Hunter

This quote reminds me so much of Meghan.
My stomach is twisted in knots and my heart hurts for her but at the same time I’m excited and cheering her on. She’s such a great character. I love that no matter how hard she gets knocked down she gets back up and works harder to find a way to make things happen.
I’m a little irritated and disappointed with Davin right now but there’s still hope for him yet.
I can’t wait to find out what the next book has in store for Meghan and her loved ones.

I'm really enjoying this series so far. But has anyone else been annoyed with Davin when he'd tell Meghan to go live her life & forget about him? Like Gavin, listen, bud. Yes, she's in love with you, but the other kazzies are her friends too & she wanted to be involved with finding a cure due to her brother. It's not all because of you, Davin🤦🏼‍♀️.
I'm also curious to see what Davin says about his ex coming into the picture. All this time, Davin has been saying they can't be together if he's locked up, but now that he's out, will he have another excuse why they can't be together? & his ex shows up to the hospital to meet him? It's possible that Jenna saw it on the news but, in a way, wouldn't be shocked if he's also been in touch with her.

I'm losing interest in the story.

After three books in the series, I’ve noticed that the lack of communication between the main characters is starting to feel a bit repetitive. By this point, I would have hoped to see more progression in their relationship since it hasn’t evolved much since book one. While I appreciate how the overall plot is advancing, the stagnation in their connection is making it harder for me to fully enjoy the story as I did with the first two books. I’m finding that my interest is waning, and with only one more book to go, I’m uncertain if I’m invested enough to continue. I really hope that the final book can address this aspect and bring closure to their relationship.

In love with this series, and the characters. I can't wait for the next book in the series. The heroine although shy and with anxiety problems, Meghan is stubborn and determined, to see her friends and the man she loves free. Davin, the main characters love interest, who is a kazzie, at times drives me crazy. He is so damn stubborn at times, trying to tell meghan to continue with her life, and to forget about them. Wish he would just tell her how he feels and just let things happen between them. Although at the end of this book, I just wanted to yell. In this book, we are also, introduced to many characters as well, such as Ian, and no lie I really liked him.

Section 12: Makanza #3

This series was so great, I literally read it straight through, only sleeping when my eyes could no longer remain open and my kindle fell to my chest. I almost cried knowing I have a few months more before I can read the Next book. Although it would only follow the tears I spilled reading the last chapters in Section 12.
I would love to see some novellas on some of the other Kazzie's, to hear about their strains, see glimpses into their lives. I would also love to see a list of all the strains and corresponding 'side effects'.
Thank you Krista for sharing this adventure with the world, your writing is engaging and fairly well edited!

It seems it’s more repetitions than the second book? I don’t know why repeat all the characters what they look like considering we already know by book 1 or go through government to speeches to public approving Kazzies again like book 2. It just seems maybe cut half of the chuck of the story would be best. This is a push and pull kind of read for me. No matter what even if the story dragged along, The author manage to pull me back in. I dig the ending and still interested to read the final book of the series.

Oh this story was both fantastic and heartbreaking.
So much goes down in this book! I absolutely loved it. There was a few plot twists I did not see coming. It was intense and I was on the edge of my seat!!
This book follows Meghan as she continues to fight for the Kazzies. It’s a whirlwind as she has agreed to not come in contact with the Kazzies to keep them safe. She has made a deal with the devil. A devil who cannot be trusted. You will not want to put the book down till the very last sentence.

This book had me reeling

This book had me reeling. I felt all the emotions going through the pages of this book. It was an amazing read and honestly brought out so many questions on how I’d feel about this situation myself. As an immune suppression patient I always consider how my body would react to medications and vaccines. So it’s amazing to me how difficult it is for people in Meghan’s world. How would I feel in their shoes!

Once again I find myself hoping for Davin and Meghan. And then the end…. Oh my god!!! I won’t give it away, but I’m stunned!

This high energy tale will leave you scrambling to keep up. There is so much going on in this episode. So many twists and turns that you will definitely be kept on your toes. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this chapter of Meghan and Davin's turbulent existence in their post Makanza world. The turmoil and strife in this book only deepened the plot more. This book will unquestionably keep you entertained as it speeds by at an astonishing pace. Great Story!!!!

Dr Meghan Forester helped pioneer the vaccine against the Makanza virus that has crippled the world. Now she’s fighting for the survivors, the Kazzies, to be freed from the prison-like camp in northwest South Dakota.

The relationship between Meghan and Davin finally sees progress in this issue of the series. With freedom looming, he’s finally forced to acknowledge whether there will be a chance for them to be together.

Believable story!

I am so enjoying this series that the next book is already downloaded! Thank you so much for a very interesting storyline, and for not filling useless chapters with sex scenes 😜 that gets so boring when you read as many books as I do. Looking forward to the rest of the series,

Okay, so I’m still continuing the series. I still hate this infuriating slowness. However, I have to say this book did it justice. This was probably my favorite out of the whole series so far. This one grabbed and held my attention for the most part. So good job. Much better

Addictive and great

*Juuust one more chapter....* Finished over night. These books are seriously unputdownable!
You are completely hooked up with the story from page one, living with them, feeling every bit of excitement, anxiety and love.
The twists don't hurt either.... kind of a cliffhanger ending to this book and had I not had the last part waiting already I would be mad!

What I love most about this series is the authenticity of the characters, Meghan especially. I love seeing her growth, and the way her emotions play out. She feels so relatable and real. It’s not the most “exciting” series, but you can’t help but be highly engaged with the story. Highly recommend!

I seriously can't stop reading this series. I've read the first three books in this one week and it's hurting my productivity, but they're SO GOOD! I absolutely love Davin even if he's frustrating at times. I can't wait to read the final one.

I don’t even know what to say about this book. The relationship between Davin and Megan is just so frustrating. The story is good but I’m not a fan of how things went down in this book. Hoping for better in the next book.
