Wonderful! I actually bought all THREE of Johnnie's cookbooks after buying this one and trying out a few of the recipes! I have to say every one of the delectable creations that I've tried so far is quite the hit here in Maryland. For those unfamiliar with the author, Johnnie Gabriel is the owner of Gabriel’s Restaurant & Bakery, a chain throughout Georgia specializing in homemade desserts and Southern cuisine. Johnnie is also Paula Deen’s first cousin.

Keep in mind that her place used to be known as "Gabriel's Desserts" so her cookbooks are somewhat heavy on the desserts but you'll find wonderful soups, and deeeelish main-dish & veggie casseroles (e.g. her amazing Roasted Carrot Souffle!) as well.

I must say, I have a Kindle but with cookbooks, I neeeeeeeeed a hard copy to browse through on those days where I have to sit down and flip through pages to trigger my imagination! Plus, the photos in these books are just AHHHH-mazing!!!

This is NOT a hard cookbook; the ingredients can be found at the grocery store, and many of the recipes are somewhat basic. For an intermediate cook like me, I found everything I tried easy to make and they turn out well! :-) If you like Southern cuisine, if you want to try your hand at it, or, if you just want some really great desserts (mmmmm...the Fresh Strawberry Cake is to DIE for!) this is a TERRIFIC cookbook!

I enjoyed reading this one, and I am considering buying it. I loved the coleslaw recipe. I would really like to try some of the baking recipes. It also looked to have yummy recipes for sandwiches and lunch fare.

This is a great cookbook. Down-home simple, but good.The fudge pie is great.This is Paula Deen's cousin who also owns a resturant.
