Double The Alpha

Rate this book
“She knew she could handle one alpha, but could she handle TWO?” In an apocalyptic future, Ellie Miller realized that the only way to keep her people safe was to do a deal with the nearby wolf pack. In exchange for protection, she would offer them the only thing she could offer... Herself. And that was something that the alpha Eric McCormick would gladly accept. However, when Ellie arrived at the pack she found there was a twist. Eric had joined forces with another alpha named Ryan. Now Ellie must be mated to both of them or the deal was off.... This is a super sexy paranormal ménage romance. Only read this if you are an adult and if these themes do not offend you!

I enjoy menage romances and this one has some interesting twists. You have a woman who has survived when most have died. She is asked to become the mate of a leader of another community in exchange for help for her people. She doesn't expect that she will then be asked to be the mate of the new co-leader as well.

You kind of know what to expect from similar stories in this genre but you do get surprised. Eric and Ryan are two men that are very different in personality but have joined together to combine their resources. There are other woman who have multiple mates and it is accepted. It is interesting to watch them adjust to their new arrangement.

The story is told only from her point of view and it would have been nice to have alternate points of view from the men. You really get to know her and understand her choices but it takes time to learn more about Eric and Ryan. I liked that the author gets in to the complexity of making this kind of relationship work and having to be fair to both men.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

SPOILERS!!!!

This failed on so many levels, but the biggest one is as a romance. The next is as a menage, then as an attempt at erotica, and also as an attempt at not-zombie-but-might-as-well-be-zombie apocalyptic fiction and fantasy.

Let's start with the romance and menage aspects since they are entwined. [I'll warn you again, SPOILERS.] You CANNOT introduce the reader to two mates, spend 3/4 of a book building this relationship up and then suddenly have the female decide she doesn't actually love both men and one man conveniently turns out to be a treacherous betrayer (all within some shockingly short amount of time). It WILL leave the reader feeling disconnected and dissatisfied at the end. I hadn't been given the chance to truly engage with and come to have any feelings about the couple. NONE. Which meant the ending hit the ground with a giant splat. What's more, if that's the way an author wants to play it, they shouldn't put "menage romance" on the cover because that's not what it is when all is said and done

Further, the sex scenes were stale and pitiful. The sex was spoken about as if it was sooo transgressive and kinky, but literally, the female felt "filthy" and kinky because she liked being called a "naughty girl" and having sex on her knees. There isn't anything wrong with relatively vanilla sex in a book, but to have the narrator talk about it like it's something else always jars me. It's like a nun trying to titillate. It just clashes and they don't have any real grasp of how little they know. (Or I should say the stereotype of a nun, because in real life they may all be porn addicts for all I know.)

Then there were the not-zombies and fantasy aspects of the book. The not-zombies were literally just window dressings, there but of no real importance. The same can be said for the wolf aspect. The men could have been alpha-like soldiers and the book would have read exactly the same. What's more, the author gave the main character a superpower and then left her home baking cupcakes, never giving it purpose.

Actually, as much as I complain about the sex scenes or ridiculous plot drift that resulted in the menage being reduced to a couple, my biggest irritant about the book was how the "males" were always being spoken about as active in protection, and work, and decisions, etc and the "females" were never truly included as anything but after-thoughts—pretty little baubles to be left at home while the men-folk were out being important.

Lastly, the author needs to do a search of her manuscript for repeat words, "community" and the phrase "or something" especially. Every character says "or something" constantly. If it was one character I'd call it a character quirk, but as it's all of them it's just noticeable and annoying repetition in the writing.

All in all, I'm awful glad to not be listening to this anymore.

I was gifted this audible book by the narrator Meghan Kelly, thank you. Meghan did a fantastic job with the narration of this story.

Story - what would you do if you lived in a community of older or very young people and they are starving, can not defend themselves plus there is an alien invasion going on. You are one of a hand full of eligible younger aged women get offered food, clothing and protection for one single thing in return. You must Mate with the Alpha of a wolf shifters pack.
Eric the alpha of the pack has specifically requested Ellie Miller, who is human and a vital member of this community. How can she turn him down knowing that others lives depend on her decision. She goes, but finds she has been deceived because it is not one alpha but two who she is to mate, but hey I have told you enough, no more spoilers. Except to say this does have ménage scenes, has a storyline and a plot sit back with your favorite drink and enjoy.

Double The Alpha is an action packed romance that will keep you on the edge of your seat. You will find yourself in a world that is life threatening and yet filled with hope at the same time. This story will immerse you into a story that will both astonish and delight your senses. Above all, this is a story of finding life-changing love amidst unseen treachery and ever-present danger.

The characters touched my heart, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching the plot unfold. I enjoyed getting to know this new world and watching the characters learn how to maneuver within their new life. The storyline was refreshing in its originality, and I enjoyed becoming familiar with its details and quirks.

The narration was wonderful to listen to and enjoy. I felt my heart draw closer to the story and its characters due this amazing performance. I savored every second, and hated to see it end. What a wonderful treasure!

I enjoy reading paranormal books involving alpha shifters and here we’re given a nice twist with the addition of a ménage and apocalypse survival. The story is told though Ellie’s POV from beginning until the end and I think in this case it works wonderfully, as agreements have been made and mates have been chosen Ellie, Ryan and Eric start to build a connection together and the story just grows from there. For a while I couldn’t decide if I was hooked on Ryan or Eric more because both are full fledged alphas but their personalities are complete opposite. As we move further along I’m shocked by some events that take place but so happy with the end results. The pace flowed steadily and I was kept intrigued the entire time. I will be looking into more work from this author in the future. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.

You should know starting out that Ellie doesn't end up with both Aplha's, so for me this isn't a menage romance and I found that really disappointing, in fact the ending really spoiled the whole book for me. The first 75% of the book was fun and sexy the last 25% not so much.

The set-up for the story was good and I liked the characters. The chemistry between Ellie, Eric and Ryan was really hot in the beginning.

The narration was great, excellent character voices and the delivery was smooth and matched the different moods of the book.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Have this in audio
This is a hot steamy listen. Love Meghan Kelly stories.
This is not a 3 somesome . It’s a hot listen with lots of action
Heroine is Ellie . Hero there is 2. Eric and Ryan. Ellie decides to get together with the Alpha Eric. Ellie needs to get together with Eric for Protection. There are lots of steamy scenes. When Ellie goes and sees Eric she gets a double pleasure she sees Eric made a deal with Ryan. Ellie thinks she’s going to be with both Alphas but she isn’t.
Grab this and see who she ends up with

Meghan Kelly has slowly become one of my favourite narrators. She nails this right on

Paranormal Romance. This was my first Amira Rain's book. It's a paranormal menage romance, with an unexpected ending. I had trouble to get into this story. The chemistry between Ellie, Eric and Ryan was strong and steamy. The second part was fast-paced and filled with action and I loved it. The narration was great and easy to listen. I received this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Not a bad book. I was sitting here wondering if I would have to stop it because it was boring, but that never happened. I was up most of the night reading this one and trust me, it was a page turner. I did not expect that ending!!

Good stories

Enjoyed both stories. Selfishness and jealously never wins. Written very well. Every thing was explained very well and the emotions were easily felt.
