The sole object of this Translation is to help those who are learning Persian, to read the original with such ease, that they shall at once feel the appropriate sense of each word; and shall, imperceptibly, fall into the proper order of arranging the words, and acquire a familiarity with the idiomatic turns of the language. The learner must, however, take the trouble of referring to the Dictionary, for those words of which he does not know the original, as well as the figurative, meaning; and he must be careful to note down every example, where the grammatical construction of Persian differs from that of the Classical and then he will not find much difficulty in turning such a Translation as this back into Persian.
With these objects in View, the Translation has been made as literal as possible; and except where the passage was Very simple, an attempt has been made to represent each separate word of the original, and to place the words, or at least the clauses of each sentence, Very nearly in the order in which they would stand in Persian. And the consequence has been, that the language of the Translation is neither pure nor elegant; and may, in some parts, perhaps, be found incorrect and obscure.
