After a thousand years, Cyrus Davidon returns to Reikonos, only to find things are not as he has left them. Hope has fled, and things appear darker than ever. Surrounded by old friends who have come with him and meeting new allies, Cyrus must confront the dark forces that hold his home city in their grip.
Robert J. Crane was born and raised on Florida's Space Coast before moving to the upper midwest in search of cooler climates and more palatable beer. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in English Creative Writing. He worked for a year as a substitute teacher and worked in the financial services field for seven years while writing in his spare time.
Cyrus and some friends are back 1000 years after they disappeared finding a strange new world. Still lots of action, there is more dialogue that is sometimes a bit much but all in all this is another great book in the Sanctuary series
Oh it's good to have these characters back! Especially Vara who was sorely missed in book 8. My only complaint (and what stopped it being 5 stars) was the ending - I hate cliff hanger endings. The great thing about the first 8 books was that they were self contained while contributing to the ongoing story. Cliff hanger endings feel like an unfinished book and just designed to make you buy the next book - as if the writer doesn't have confidence that you would want to read the next book based on the writing/characters/story arc. Sorry, bit of rant as this really get on my nerves! But overall, a great book and looking forward to the next one.
What a return to the book series. first the negatives. Like I read some previous reviews there was a lot of banter. In practice I could have just continued reading as it was one plot for the whole story. I guess i'm used to Cyrus and crew battling one bad guy and moving on to another. For them to fight the same group throughout this book did took a while to get into. Also I couldn't tell what period they are in. Was never a problem but a 1000 years with pistols now does draw interest to know what period we are in. Other than that it was a good read. Gaull the new bad you'll read was menacing enough. With the surprise ending. I'm definitely gonna read the next book.
I'm only halfway thru but felt the need to stop and review cuz I know I'll jump right to the next book at the end of this one. I just can't stop thinking, 'how does he do it?! All these strange worlds, all these different characters, and why won't he,the author, robert j crane, allow movies to be made?! Just demand final say on character and story. I would love to see what he sees when writing these characters. What does Cyrus really look like, Vara, Vaste, Alaric? All of them. This one has a bit of Lord of the Rings time feel. Enjoy fellow reader, devourer of books, enjoy! Girl in the Box will always be my favorite....
The wait for this was so worth it. Loved having these characters back....oh Vaste how I've missed you!
New era, new characters and a new (sort of) enemy.
I had wondered if this story could continue following on from Legend but it does, effortlessly and brilliantly.
After a thousand years in the ether a lot has changed, and not for the better as they had hoped. At a disadvantage from the outset they must bring hope back to a hopeless Reikonos.
The ending sets up a continuation which looks to be explosive....cant wait!
Beautifully written. Picked up from the end of book 8 and wrapped you up in it's arms like Vaste holding a goat. Took a bit of adjustment to the new landscape and storyline but having been a long time fan of the series and rereading it multiple times it was easy to find the parallels between the new characters introduced and the dead ones from before. Saw it coming but refreshing nonetheless. Look forward to seeing how the new dangers (and some old and renewed) are dealt with by the new Sanctuary.
They're back, a 1,000 years after they left. There are new problems to face than the kind they fought against in the old days. There is a vast criminal empire crushing the city of Cyrus's birth, something is wrong with their magic and Cyrus is a God?? What's up with that. And one of their worse enemies is also back! Which one you ask? Read this, the 9th book in the Sactuary Series, to find out who it is. I was very pleased with the way Mr, Crane is keeping the series going. Highly recommended for all.
Another hit and completely different from books 1-8. This is set in the future by a thousand years and Cyrus and the gang have some catching up to do. But there are still villains out there and it is up to the Sanctuary crew to fight them and find hope for the few people left in the world. And, of course, there are surprises lurking around every corner. Enjoy!
Rather disappointing this ending is...must go to book 10 right away to find out what happens. I read the authors note at the end of book 9 and understand his angst and empathize with him about how difficult it must be to crank out big books, but couldn't you have picked a better place to stop?
Great to be back with these snarky, fearless heroes. The banter was funny, battles glorious & new characters intriguing. Can't wait for more. The ending in the words of Vaste "Well, shit"! Love that I was left wanting more, always more. Damn you RJC!
I love these stories the adventures of Cyrus and Co are never dull. Vaste still provides most of the humour and there are new friends and an old enemy to contend with roll on the next installment
Very uplifting, entertaining as always and the new additions to the group will make the next book(s) so interesting. Looking forward to your next release! Thank you
Absolutely one of my favourite series. The characters, the storyline and the banter! You don't get this anywhere else. Vaste... OMG I love him. Everyone needs a Vaste in their lives. So many arse jokes ;)
Expertly written n 1 of the Best series i have had the pleasure of reading!!! I am looking forward to future releases of this series! Overall, this series is 5 stars for sure. Please keep em coming n thx!!!
Continuation of fast-paced, wonderful literature. This book was a little heavy on the dialogue (great, and hilarious jokes) but I enjoyed the reveals at the end and the book moved at a fast enough pace to keep me intrigued. Recommended as always, as long as you know what you're getting into.
Definitely worth reading this series, I'm definitely better for doing so. It's been a journey and one I've delighted in since the first book. This has been an impressive offering in the continued story & it doesn't disappoint.
As always the sanctuary series of books excel Cyrus Davidon and the rest of sanctuary heroes helping the people in there own way of violence with violence a must for all fantasy readers
Complete love for the funny tactics, adventure, and flow of this storyline. Laughter and on the edge of a joyful adventure. I'm definitely looking forward to the next adventure in this series and can't wait to laugh my butt off.
Great continuation from sanctuary. I don't want to give any spoilers but it is good to see some of the gang back. Great storyline for a brand new world.
The Sanctuary Series is one of the best Fantasy series I have ever read. Each book grabs your attention. This is one of those series that drops a hint in Book 1 that you finally figure out in Book 9.
I did not find this as gripping as the earlier sanctuary books, and is a bit of a let down. However, I am still invested in these characters and will be right there getting the next installment.
What a wonderful breath of new life for characters we have loved for a thousand years. They are back and with renewed wit love and purpose. The world they new gone, but the people they loved remain....in need of exactly what the heroes can offer. HOPE!
