How insane is it to marry an alien as a publicity stunt?
I’m Sunny Weathers. You probably recognize me from my reality show, Sunny Weathers Excellent Adventures. I’ve had to perform a lot of crazy stunts in my career but this one takes the cake! The producers are sending me to another planet to become an alien’s mail order bride. I’m not allowed to tell anybody it’s a put-on, and as soon my contract is up, I’ll be leaving planet Dakon. Unfortunately, I hadn’t counted on my attraction to Mr. Tall, “Darq” and Handsome…
I’m Darq. The moment I laid eyes on the female with pretty mud-colored hair and sunny smile, I knew she was mine. Competition for females is fierce, and I was determined to claim a mate from the latest shipment from Earth so I broke the rules. If anyone finds out, my own brother would banish me to the icy wilderness, and I’d lose my mate. I will do anything to keep her…
USA Today bestselling author Cara Bristol writes science fiction romance about tough alien and cyborg heroes who fall hard for sassy heroines.
Cara is a homebody who married a wanderer. When she’s not writing or being distracted by squirrels cavorting outside her office window, she enjoys reading and traveling the world with her husband. Topping her bucket list is visiting all seven continents and petting a squirrel.
Alien Attraction is book two in the Alien Mate series by Cara Bristol. This book can be purchased on it’s own but is also available in a box set of all four books in the series.
In the first book, we met Torg, the clan chief. We learned that on their planet, females were scarce due to a virus caused by an asteroid centuries before. Earth learned of an ore the Dakonians had so in exchange for ore they are allowing human females to travel to Dakon as a sort of mail order bride, a mate for the men of Dakon. These men cherish their females and competition to be one of the men to claim one of the women is fierce.
Darq is Torg’s brother. He has watched Torg fall in love and wants that for himself. He can feel it in his bones that one of the women on the coming ship is his mate, the woman just for him. But Darq has a secret. The men live by their honor on their planet. And Darq might not have been one of the original men to get chosen to receive a numbered chit so that he could choose a mate this time. But opportunity presented itself and he took it. If anyone finds out, not only would he embarrass his brother, he would be punished, banished from the clan. But it’s a risk worth taking, because his mate is waiting for him.
Sunny Weathers hates her job. She is what we would call a reality TV star. Her show is called Sunny Weathers Excellent Adventures. She’s contractually obligated to do whatever crazy challenge they put before her. But this one is the worst. They are sending her to another planet to be a mate to an alien. But when the filming is over, she’s supposed to come home, breaking the man’s heart. But she doesn’t have a choice. Not only would she be out of a job if she refuses, her sister and nephew count on her to support them. And the production company has made her a deal she can’t refuse.
I loved this one. Darq and Sunny were so adorable. The chemistry was there from the first moment but Sunny was so torn. She just couldn’t let her or Darq’s feelings become involved. She had to do her job and then leave. But sometimes the heart doesn’t listen to the head.
I can’t wait to start the next book, Alien Intention. This one will be about Sunny’s sister, Stormy, and the bad boy of the Dakonians, Romando.
Alien Attraction is book two of the Alien Mate series by Cara Bristol. This novel is fast, entertaining, and light. The premise of this series is along the lines of an alien mail order bride service.
I’ve been on an alien kick and devoured this book and all the books in the Alien Mate series one after the other. This one I read in a day.
Alien Attraction can be read out of order or as a standalone, but it’s better if read in order. The book is available on its own or in a box set; which features all the books in the Alien Mate series.
We meet, Torq and his brother Darq, in the first book, Alien Mate, and now it’s Darq’s turn to get a sassy earth women.
I wasn’t too sure going into this at first on the set up. I don’t care for characters to build a relationship on lies. Yet, I was soon engrossed and rooting for our hero and heroine. Their circumstances were complicated and you know that their truths will come out and when it does who knows what will happen. The conflict in the story added to my enjoyment and when things blew up our couple was in the right place in their relationship.
Sunny and Darq’s romance developed nicely. They took the slower route in developing and getting to know each other better; before acting on their attraction.
Like with book one, there is some good humored moments and some fireworks. It was also nice to get a peek in with Torq and Star and a few others.
Alien Attraction is an easy and fast sci-fi romance with action, engaging characters, and a bit of steam.
Sunny has a reality show and the producers want her to marry an alien for a year and when the year is up, let the alien know and leave. There will be tiny robotic cameras that no one knows are there recording the year on another planet. She turned it down until she found out that her nephew's new robotic heart would cost almost two million dollars and she was being offered a bonus two million to do this stunt. So what choice did she have.
Once on Dakon she and Darq actually hit it off so much that Sunny feels bad for lying to him and she pushes her feeling down as long as she can. The little robotic cameras keep making her mad by getting in her face and making themselves known. Darq breaks one of them and throws it in the fire at one point. Sunny and Darq are such a sweet couple together.
When the truth comes out that Darq wasn't supposed to get a mate this time, the male that should have picked a mate is mad and puts Sunny in danger. But I loved the ending and how Sunny decided what to do with her life. I love this series and it always makes me laugh. I am really looking forward to more of this series.
An alien mail order bride service becomes the next setting for a reality TV show, but somewhere between secrets and lies, unexpected attraction leads to love. I had a great time with Alien Mates so I was glad the author was writing a series and Torq's fun brother, Darq, was next in line to get a sassy earth woman.
Alien Attraction is book two and would be enjoyed better in order, but the reader could get away with it out of order or standalone.
Fast, fun, and light, this next book in the series was another hit with me. At first, I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy it as much as the first book because I don't really care for the main characters lying to each other or setting out from the beginning to have a relationship built on a lie. That said, I went ahead because I've enjoyed several of the author's books and trust her to give me a good romance. And, it was not long before I was totally rooting for both heroine and hero because the circumstances were somewhat complicated and their feelings were in the right place from the beginning.
But oh the fun... The lies are hanging over them and the clock is ticking on when the truth comes out. More complications than they expected occur when it does, but at least they are in a good spot and have each other's backs.
Like with the first book, there are some good humor moments and some good sizzle. They are attracted right away, but end up taking it slower and getting a better read on each other beyond the attraction. It was great to get a peek in with Torq and Star and a few of the others from the previous story as well as meet the heroine and, maybe, the hero for book three. Oh boy won't that be an interesting match up.
For those who want a fast and easy sci-fi romance with engaging characters, a bit of steam, and some action, I would recommend giving this series a try.
My thanks to the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
I adored the first book so much that I now have to binge-read this series. I loved this book. The premise was different and very original, and I read this in one sitting! I loved how both characters struggled with their conscience over different things, and as always, the chemistry was great.
This is a case of two wrongs making a right. Sunny Weathers is the star of an reality show. She is not really there to find a mate. Darq was not suppose to find a mate but keeps another man's chip. Both get caught out and both find that wrongs do sometimes turn out right but they don't without some interesting adventures. Another fun romance with interesting characters and world building. You even get to see characters from the first book.
I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.
This is the second book in Cara Bristol’s Alien Mate series. This series takes place on a remote planet of Dakon. Dakon was hit by an asteroid that changed everything. Now the planet is a frozen wasteland. There is also a severe lack of women on the planet. They believe there was a virus on the asteroid that affected women more than men. What Dakon does have a lot of, illuvian minerals which are used for power on Terra (which is basically Earth). So Darkon and Terra created an exchange program. In the first book, they sent women who were criminals to Dakon, unbeknownst to the Dakonians.
So the Dakonian males, which are large, have horns which are mostly hidden by their hair. They selected a few men who could then pick the amongst the women. The women were given the right to refuse, but once you say yes, it is kinda a done deal. The men are so excited to have a mate, they do tend to do whatever they can to keep the woman happy. There hasn’t been anything mentioned so far about a divorce, but people are just starting to get together. I don’t know if there is a way for women to leave the men if they are happy (or vice versa for that matter). In the first book, Alien Mate, they do resolve the whole, sending women who didn’t volunteer. Now there are women lining up to go to this new-to-them planet.
So, in Alien Attraction, we have Sunny. She is a reality TV star. She’s done pretty much whatever the producers can find to throw her into. She’s trudged through swamps and worked on a pig farm. Now they want her to go to Dakon and pair up with a guy for a year. She really isn’t given much of a choice. They hold her contract over head. Not to mention they offered a large bonus, which she really needs to help her nephew who needs a new heart (he will get a mechanical heart, which pretty much makes him a cyborg, which he is really excited about).
Darq is the brother of the hero of the first book. He is really excited about finally getting to meet his mate. Imagine his surprise when he isn’t one of the people chosen to get a bride in this second batch of women. He is devastated, but things start to look up when he finds someone else’s “chit” which is the numbered disc which tells him where he is in the line to pick a female. He should turn it in, but he wants a mate so badly, he picks in place of the guy who lost his.
So you can imagine the issues since both of these two have secrets. Both do wrong things, but it is a sweet story of how they come together. It is also interesting to see how these two react to different issues because of their cultures.
I really like this world Cara Bristol has created. It is pretty primitive, but is slowly getting more technology as more people from Terra arrive. It is also interesting to see how the cultures are merging. My favorite thing about this series are the characters. You really do fall in love with the characters. I keep rooting for them, no matter how flawed they might be. You really want to see them find happiness.
This is a science fiction romance, but has that kind of paranormal romance feel. The biggest thing that makes it science fiction is that it takes place on a different planet and there are aliens. There isn’t a huge amount of techiness like you see in most sci-fi stories. This planet it very primitive, because they lost almost everything when the asteroid hit. Even computers and snow machines are new to Dakon. Now on Terra, things are a little more sci-fi, like Devon, the nephew’s mechanical heart, and these bug sized flying cameras that Sunny’s producers use to film her.
You can read this book without having read the first book in the series. However, I’m a person who prefers to start with the first book in a series (it is just a thing for me). I feel like I get more about the world and even the people. I will also say, I loved Alien Mate, so it is worth a read, so you might as well start there anyway. 🙂 I’m excited for the next book, which I believe comes out soon. I can’t wait to see where this series goes from here.
**Book was provided to me by the author. This review is my opinion and was not requested or provoked in anyway by the author.
Tribal chief Torg's brother Darq wants a mate and does the unthinkable...
Book two, like the first, is a stand-alone adventure that takes place on an alien planet that is in dire need of females so that the race of Dakonians can survive after the planet was struck by a disease-carrying asteroid that killed off the majority of the female population.
You want me to what?!
Reality Net star of Stormy Weathers' Excellent Adventures has tackled everything from working on a fishing boat to a pig farm and wrangling baby alligators so why is Stormy so reluctant to take an assignment in the "Brides for Rocks" program on planet Dakon when Apogee informs her of her next assignment? Maybe fear of the unknown or it could be the icy rock of a planet and hot aliens that await her arrival and that her participation is all a ruse. With her six-year-old nephew Devon's failing health due to congenital heart failure, what's a girl to do?
Obah! Obah!
Darq has always been lonely, but even more so now that Torg has Starr Connor as a mate. Darq wants his own mate to "mesh-mouths with and much more. One-hundred more Terrian females are expected on Dakon any day now and Darq hopes to win a chit to claim a mate. Darq is so excited when he attends the drawing only to be disappointed when he is not one of the chosen to receive a mate. Darq locks eyes with Sunny and knows she's the one right up until Enoki calls another name to claim Sunny. Disappointed and downtrodden, Darq heads back to his tribe but finds a chit one of his fellow tribemates had lost. Decisions, decisions. Should he return the chit to Council Chief Enoki or keep it and claim a mate for himself?
Mr. Tall Darq, and "Horny"...
After Darq claims Sunny and Sunny realizes her attraction to Darq, Sunny pulls every stunt in the book to keep from "accidentally falling on Darq's manhood in a week moment of lust". Darq is puzzled by Sunny's hot and cold attitude towards him and begins to second guess whether he made a mistake or not.
Meanwhile...
The cambots/"insects" Apogee sent along to record Sunny Weathers' adventures on Dakon are sending back footage of the couple as they begin their life together...unbeknownst to Darq. But hey, everybody's got a secret including Darq who hasn't told anyone that he is not the rightful owner of the chit. That, in fact, said chit rightfully belongs to Romando (no worries, Romando gets his story next).
Something's gotta give...
Just as things begin to heat up between Darq and Sunny their secrets are finally brought to light. Romando wants his mate and Apogee wants their footage and Sunny's extended contract.
Alien romances aren't my typical go-to genre, although I have to say that in recent years I have read a number of really excellent books with an alien as the hero. This book is no exception to that trend whatsoever, and I am once again eager to read more books by Cara Bristol! She does an amazing job of worldbuilding, creating realistic and intriguing characters, and the romance is very sweet. I was a bit apprehensive considering the heroine's occupation, and I was worried the secret she kept would drag the story down too much for me to enjoy. One of my biggest pet peeves in romance is when a lie between the two main characters is dragged out for too long. However, the way it was written in Alien Attraction made it totally bearable, and I loved how the heroine kept trying to tell the hero the truth. Thwarted time and time again! Lots of humor all around.
Sunny Weathers is in a bind. Threatened with the loss of her tv show contract and faced with her nephew's need for a mechanical heart, she is forced into deceiving an innocent Dakon male into taking her as his bride. Resistant at first but desperate to save her nephew's life, she agrees to marry him for one year and keep the fact that their relationship will be televised a secret. However, things become even harder when she realizes how easy it would be to fall in love with her alien mate, Darq. Now she wants to tell him the truth, but as tiny cameras zoom around filming and watching her every move, she must be careful that she reveals the truth without risking her contract and therefore her nephew's life.
Sunny and Darq were a really cute couple, and they almost beat the first book's couple in terms of compatibility. I really enjoyed that they both kept secrets from each other as well, as it made their interactions humorous as both tried desperately not to let the other know. Darq was a sweetheart, so it was easy to like him as a character. He genuinely cared for Sunny and went slow with their relationship, even though he wanted her love so much. Sunny almost instantly fell for Darq, and she fought her feelings so much in the beginning. Her character was really kind and generous at heart, so you were rooting for her every time she broke one of the tv show cameras. Fun preview - Darq thought the cameras were insects and "killed" them for her. Her hero!
I am so excited to read the next book in the series, which I assume will feature Sunny's sister. It should be interesting to see how she interacts with her mate, given his history with Sunny (you'll see why once you've read Book 2). Can't wait to read it!
**I received a free copy from the author and this is my honest review.**
This is book 2 in the Alien Mate series. It's about Darq, who is the brother of Torg from the book 1, and Sunny Weathers. Darq has entered the lottery hoping for a mate from earth, especially after seeing how happy his brother is with his mate. Sunny has been sent to Dakon as part of a stunt for her reality show back on Earth. And she has no choice in the matter until her contract is up. What she never counted on was how she would feel about Darq and having to lie to him about why she was sent to the planet to begin with. And Darq has his own secrets that he is keeping, and if they are found out it could lead to major problems not only for himself but his brother.
I loved this one! Right from the start you could understand why Sunny does what she does. Even though she really doesn't want to do this, she doesn't have a choice. And even though she is a "celebrity", you never get that stuck up vibe like you would expect from someone who has had to live in front of a camera. Darq was always sweet in the first book and this one is no different. He surprised me when he does what he does to make sure he got a mate but I couldn't really blame him. Right from the start you like these characters. They both made me laugh at the things they say and do. They both made me just genuinely like not only who they are but how they treat each other. They are perfect for each other. And the fact that Darq is so forgiving is a wonderful thing to see!! And the way he treats her family is beyond awesome! I can't wait to read Sunny's sisters story next!!
Alien Attraction is fun, campy, romantic and sweet!
Poking fun at our love for reality TV shows, Cara Bristol gives us our latest space bride, Miss Stormy Weathers, reality show celebrity and the star of Stormy Weathers’ Excellent Adventures. Her trip to the icy alien planet of Dakon is all part of an elaborate stunt undertaken under coercion, but of course, someone has to inconveniently fall in love. And Stormy isn’t the only one keeping secrets. Hmmm...there is definitely some drama on this sparsely populated, inhospitable post-calamitous planet that is desperate for more women.
The characters are lovable and the mood is light and superficial. This is a cute entertaining space romance. I would read others in this series if I had time.
(An ARC was provided, but this review reflects my sincere and independent opinion.)
It was nice to revisit this world. I really love the world and how primitive it was but still comfortable. I liked the honor and integrity of the tribes. I was disgruntled at first when Darq did what he did. I loved the cool technology introduced by Sunny and the Terrans. I'm not sure about the protagonist, He had every right to be mad but he just went about things the wrong way. There where several times I laughed out loud at Sunny. It was nice to see the couple from the first book. I really liked them. I'm really interested in how Stormy is going to do when she and her little cyborg arrive.
This is one of those books which fell flat for me at least in part because I read it too close after book one (I was stuck in a doctor's office with limited choices). If I'd read it a year apart instead of a couple days apart, I probably would have had a different experience. As it is, the book while cute felt too repetitive. Darq and Torg are very similar, the mail order bride schtick is the same and there was no sense of the Dakon world getting bigger or their culture deeper.
Think alien reality show and you’ve got a pretty good idea of this story. The Dakonians have an extreme shortage of women. Earth is sending female volunteers there in exchange for illuvian ore. Under severe pressure from her producer, Sunny gets to “volunteer” for that program. The men enter a lottery to see who wins a mate....the perfect setting for a reality show where the producer (with tiny robot cameras) control the outcome to get high ratings.
This book is about a woman named Sunny Weathers. She's a reality star and her latest stunt is to get "married" to an alien. Thus shenanigans ensue and Sunny must do what's right for her family, her new alien and her heart.
I loved Sunny she was so sweet but also fierce. I loved the whole drama about wanting to quit her show but doing whatever she could to help her nephew. Darq is so sweet and wants so badly for Sunny to love him. Of course the secrets between them make the book hilarious. It was nice that they were both forgiving of the other's secret. They both love each other a lot and with Stormy joining them on Dakon, Sunny never wants to leave. Great story, I can't wait to read Stromy's book!
This was actually a cute, entertaining read! I liked the world that the author created, and the H/h - Darq and Sunny - were likeable protagonists. The fact that they had a few misunderstandings that they quickly worked out by talking like adults made me like them more. Sunny was funny, and big buff Darq was just plain ol' sweet.
another absolutely terrific book in this series with wonderfully real well rounded characters a fabulous plot and lots of laughs. sunny is basically black mailed by her boss to travel to another planet and become a mail order bride. she does it so her nephew can have life saving surgery but she doesn't plan to stay. then there is Darq who doesn't draw a mate chit in the lottery but finds some on the ground and so keeps it and picks sunny who the wind whispered is for him. throw in 6 crazy flying tiny cameras recording everything and all the crazy things that happen between them while trying not to get caught out in their deceptions, a couple falls into the latrine pit, a kidnapping and much more this book will keep u glued to the pages from start to finish. i highly recommend adding it to your library.
Sunny is a reality TV star and her next adventure is going to an alien planet as a mail order bride. Darq didn't get a number in this second round of pick your human bride, but he finds a number and uses it as his own to claim Sunny.
So much fun! This was a reread and my introduction to this series and author. The secrets and tiny robot cameras are so fun in this plot, and love the sister dynamic with Sunny and Stormy. Loved the set up for book 3 and that our heroine is Stormy!
The story continues from the first one, Alien Mates, where Terra has sent female prisoners to Drakon as brides in exchange for illuvian ore. But in the first story, the women are criminals, in the second, they have signed up and agreed to the exchange. Well, let’s say, all but one, Sunny Weathers, hadn’t agreed, she is being forced into the deal under contract by her studio, Apogee Productions as part of her Sunny Weather’s Excellent Adventure, a reality show.
Sunny Weather started doing the reality show after her sister, Stormy, has started. But Stormy no longer does the gig, only Sunny, and that is only because of her nephew, Devon, who needs expensive medical care. With a nice bonus, it will make life easier for Devon and Stormy, and it is only for one year, isn’t it?
On Drakon, one-hundred woman is coming, so that means a drawing of one hundred chits with only so many going to each tribe. Darq just knows he will win a draw, but is disappointed. Has fate handed him his greatest wish? Draq will find a lost chit, and while he plays back and forth on what he should do, he isn’t willing to give up having a chance with a Terran female, especially when he sees the one.
The plot will have two individuals, each with their own secrets, demons, and desires. For Sunny, it is spending a year on Drakon to give Devon a chance. For Darq, it means having a mate, a female to love and cherish. From the moment that Sunny and Draq make eye contact in the meeting hall, they are both taken with each other, talk about instant chemistry and attraction.
“I promise to become worthy of you. I will become the mate you deserve.” –Draq
“She shook her head slightly. I’m the one who needs to become worthy of you.” –Sunny
“We’ll learn about each other, together. Except for one thing. The secret I couldn’t tell the world, I also couldn’t share with her. I hated we were starting our life together with a lie between us. “
Sunny’s producers were creative in how to make the reality show work by sending six camera robots, ones that looked like flying insects with red glowing eyes. When Sunny finally can talk to her sister, Stormy, she will learn that Devon is doing better and that Stormy wants to sign up and come to Drakon as a bride, bringing Devon with her. Maybe this is the answer for their futures.
The story will include so many laughing out loud moments with issues with the annoying “insects” as they hover and swarm around Sunny to record her and Darq’s every move and interaction. While they are invasive, they do serve a greater good too. What will happen when true confessions come to light? How will Sunny accept Darq’s deception with the found chit? How will Darq react when he learns she is part of a reality program and will she want to stay as his mate? How will the Dakonian tribesmen handle the deception of Draq and will this mean that the man who lost the chit have the right to claim Sunny as his mate? I look forward to the next book and how the new lottery will pan out.
“The Dakonian lottery was stupid, and yet, so romantic. Darq and I had found each other that way. We’d both had secrets and strikes against us, but for the moment our eyes had met, we’d had chemistry, that indefinable bond that caused two people to gravitate to one another. You could see it with these couples, their attraction sparking with the first hello.”
**Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book.**
Tall, Darq, and carrying a naughty secret!
When Sunny's job requires her to move to another planet and marry an alien, she has no choice but to comply. Worse, the entire scam will be recorded and projected all over her home planet as pure entertainment. And her new alien husband has no idea that she is a reality star, planning to leave the planet as soon as her contract is over. Yet, after getting to know her new mate, Sunny begins to wonder if maybe she is meant to stay with Darq, after all. That is, if he could ever forgive her after he learns of her betrayal.
I've been looking forward to the sequel to Alien Mate and this book did not disappoint. This time around, we have another woman who isn't necessarily participating in the alien bride program of her own free will. She isn't a prisoner, like the one before, but she is being coerced into finding an alien husband by the production company she works for. I felt terrible for her in the beginning, being forced to lie and trick everyone she met.
But the hero in this book has a dirty secret too. He didn't get his human mate fair and square. He cheated and even though he's delighted to have a mate, he's terrified that his secret will come out and they will be separated. Of course, the truth always comes to light and then the pair have to really fight for their right to be together. I was rooting for them the entire time.
The romance is slow burning here, with mostly just mouth-meshing (cute name for kissing, by the way) until the last third of the book. This gave us a chance to really get to know the couple and I was definitely glad to see the sparks fly between them. Darq was all male, yet also had an adorable innocence to him. I love how these heroes are so eager to please their women. And Sunny was a woman stuck in a hard place, but still held out hope that she might find love in the end. There was a nice dose of suspense thrown in there too. It was a well-balanced and enjoyable read.
In closing... Sunny's sister seems to be getting a mate next and I'm curious to see who it will be! Five suns!
**Received ARC for a fair and honest review** Alien Attraction is the 2nd book in the Alien Mate series. This book can be read as a standalone. I found this book to be a fun, fast, enjoyable read. Sunny Weathers is on her own reality show. The producers keep coming up with new and crazy schemes to get her involved in for ratings, and this newest is the most crazy of them all. They want Sunny to marry an alien, she's not thrilled about it, but her nephew is really sick and the treatment is costly, and there isn't much she wouldn't do for her nephew Devon, including marrying an alien. Darq has been dreaming about a woman that is supposed to be coming in the next group of women fated to be his mate. But when the draft comes up and he doesn't get a chit like he's supposed to he's devastated, until he finds one on the ground. Decisions, decisions for him..... I really enjoyed this story. I thought it was a neat storyline, piggybacking off of the reality tv idea. I enjoyed the characters, was good chemistry between them. The only issue I had with the book, was I felt the ending was rushed. I think there needed to be a little more story between them- there seems to be a trend lately of the characters just get together and then the story ends. There is an epilogue, but it felt like important information was left out from the in-between. That's why I rated it a 4 instead of 5 stars. Overall, really enjoyed this book tremendously! Can't wait for the next book in the series. Hope this helps! Happy Reading!!!
Take a sarcastic scheming woman with slightly scheming man and you get a humorous interesting story. Bristol writes a sweet novel about Darq, the brother of the hero in her first novel of the series. Stormy Daniels is a reality show star with way too much experience in horrible episodes that feature her pig farming, traipsing through the jungle and anything the producers can dream up to make her miserable while getting high ratings.
The latest happens to be living for a year on an alien planet. Stormy flatly refuses but is forced into the filming when she desperately needs money for her nephew’s life-saving surgery. Darq himself is forced into a deception when he must steal the chit giving him the right to choose a bride from the ship of women bringing brides to his planet.
Stormy comes from planet over populated with commitment shy men. She goes to Darq’s planet over populated with men desperate to find brides to save there species from extinction.
While the dual deception storyline is very common, the various situations in the novel are unique and laugh out loud funny. The book is hard to put down and will definitely keep you reading long into the night just as I did.
I’m voluntarily posting my honest review after receiving a copy of the book generously provided by the author.
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I loved this! It was fun, quirky, cute, with a bit of sadness and plenty of self righteous anger. Sunny is a reality tv star and to get more ratings her producer wants to send her off world to get married. If it wasn't for her sick nephew she would have said no and been done with it. But her nephew, Devon, needs a new heart. When it comes to her producer and manager, Sunny seems like a push-over. She lets them set her up to do whatever they want, doesn't matter if she thinks it's wrong. After getting on the spaceship to head to Dakon, Sunny slowly but surely decides she is fed up with being a push-over. Data was sure he would get a chit to be privileged with being able to pick out his soon to be mate. But he doesn't get picked. He ends up doing something unthinkable in the Dakonian mind. When the women arrive he locks eyes with Sunny and there is an instant sizzle. This was a fun, quick, lighthearted read. I loved it and cannot wait to read Stormy's story! I'm sure Sunny's reaction is going to be priceless!!
Sunny was supposed to do it for the rating, marry a purple alien. No big deal, for one year and two million dollar bonus. But then she met him and things just didn’t go as planned. Darq wanted a mate and he was going to have one even if he had to cheat to do it. When he saw Sunny, he had to have her.
Sunny has a great heart. I can understand her not wanting to take the job. But then with her nephew needing a heart and it costing so much, I would have broken too. Darq feels guilty for finding the chit and not turning it in but he doesn’t want to give up Sunny either. You have to feel for these two. They are both hiding something from the other. Is either worse? Not really. Ok, Sunny job is screwing her over and she feels so bad about what will happen to Darq and she doesn’t want to break his heart. At the same time we have Darq knowing he did something wrong with the tribe and worries about being caught.
If I was Sunny, I would have loved to have broken all those cameras and tell the job to stuff it. I know she has a nephew that needs medical help but it is like losing yourself. Darq, his isn’t so big a deal. But the emotions for the both is.
I can't say I agree with Sunny's decision to basically lie to someone who's desperate for a mate, but I do understand how her desperation to help her nephew caused her to do it. The potential for it blowing up in her face (and potentially hurting Darq in the process) was just BIG and not fun.
BUT...Darq also wasn't entirely innocent in his actions. He took a lottery chit when he shouldn't have and basically stole someone's place in choosing a mate. Which is a big no-no for these Dakonians. And which, as you can imagine, leads to some rough times for Darq (and Sunny) when it's discovered.
That said, I think the biggest issue Sunny and Darq have to deal with are the producers for Sunny's show. They're...not nice people. Mayyyybe one of them came through when things got really bad, but they also caused a lot of the roadbumps Sunny and Darq had to deal with and put Sunny in danger. That last part might have been unintentional, BUT STILL.
A lie or two, steamy kisses, and two people who somehow manage to find one another despite everything thrown in their way. *thumbs up*
