Samantha and her mate Rafael are homicide cop. Once they were ordered to investigate the case of the cops lying at convent. This corpse was a message for one of the woman inside the convent, Daniela, or Cristál. Her old nemesis, Donatien, a Kyn gone bad centuries ago, wants her for her powers to heal. He loves torturing people, and she can make them last longer. For years she has run from him, but always he finds her.
She writes mostly novels in a variety of genres and under several pseudonyms. Among them are science fiction (as S. L. Viehl), romantic fiction (as Lynn Viehl, Gena Hale, and Jessica Hall), and Christian fiction (as Rebecca Kelly). She has described herself as primarily a writer of romance: no matter what genre she is working in, an element of romance will always be present.
In what spare time remains she enjoys quilting, reading, cooking, painting, and knitting. She currently lives with her family in Florida.
Short Story/Paranormal Romance: I don't like short stories, but the Darkyn is one of my favorites. It's the continuation of Lucan & Samantha and probably book 3.5. It mostly introduces the relationship of Rafael & Dani. I'm ahead several book in this series and this one goes back to Lucan just settled calmed/settled down. It's quick and easy and I always wondered where Dani came from. Spoiler: Lucan breaks all the glass in a room. I love when he does that.
This was a really great novella, and really enjoyable! I really enjoyed having these two come together, though the synopsis is a bit wrong, since Samantha's mate is Janus!
Nice short Darkyn story that you can get free online. I got mine from kissofvampires.com.
This book tells the story of one case that brings Dani to Rafael’s attention. He is Sam’s new partner and they are called to investigate the murder of a woman left outside a convent run by Sister Marguerite (Dani).
Dani doesn’t want any attention brought to the convent because she’s hiding from her own problem. But Rafael doesn’t give up and becomes her protector.
There’s also some of the ongoing Kyn problems in this a case an unexpected long-dead Kyn from the past shows up alive and well. In fact this story is as much about Alex & Lucan as it is about Dani & Rafael. Lucan again tries to keep things from Alex and Rafael keeps things from Dani who join up to take care of things on their own.
Quick Thoughts: 1)Ms. Viehl really comes up with some interesting cases and bad guys.
Fave scenes: Dani showing Rafael her talent, Alex’s showdown with Lucan and Rafael confronting Donatien at the convent.
I just read all of these. I read them in this order:
I wasn't all that impressed with this one. I don't know if it was because this was such a short read. I adore the Darkyn series, I've read all the previous books. This just felt like it didn't have "enough" in it. It was suspenseful at times, but when I was finished with it I didn't have that "OOOOOOOHHHHHHHH that was good" feeling.
Worthy, Willing and Wanted. These were all good and they all coincide. They got better the further I went.
Incarnatio, was wonderful. A really good story with Jamys, Thierry, Lucan, Samantha, and Rafael. I loved this one.
I changed my rating because of the other stories. While Midnight blues was to me the weaker one and I really like Rafael, it just didn't have the ooooomph in it.
Do we ever find out who Rafael is? A Spaniard from the 1500s, I think. He won't get his HEA unless Dani has the same life span. This did not happen; all we know is that she looks good for a 45 year old.
This was a good story, though I found the ending too abrupt. What happened with the characters next? Maybe they showed up in following books, but I can't remember. Anyway it was a nice short story. 3.5 stars.
Nice little story which shows Lucan and Samantha adapting to their relationship and Sam's partner Raphael also a Kyn solving a case by a big baddie from the past in Europe. Good bridge between Dark Need and Night Lost.
It is a short story about Raphael, Lucan's seneschal who also works as a cop and he is Sam's new partner and the story that leads to him finding his mate in a convent of all places!
This was a good short story to add to the series. It gives a little bit of updated info on the charactors of the other books. Sam is in the Kyndred books also.
I didn't realize how much I missed the world of the Darkyn until I read this short novella. I really enjoy Lynn Viehl's writing and the whole concept of the Darkyn and Kyn. Love, love, love it!
