An absolute joy to read. Gillen is so very good at injecting humor into what should be a serious story. Aphra decides to auction off the ancient Jedi A.I. she and Luke found in the previous volume. What we get is the most murderous scum in the galaxy trying to weasel out the device. Meanwhile BeeTee and Triple Zero are up to their typical murderous hijinks. This is so much damn fun. Plus, Krrystan's origin.

This was an interesting volume as we get to see the origins of Black Krrasantan and that was fun and weird and turns out Aphra was using him for distraction for her own purposes: announcing an auction and wow it's wild, I love how the different factions are introduced and then we have the craziness there and the one with Shadow library people was fun but then Triple-Zero enacting his own plans which was a twist I didn't see coming and my god it's a nightmare for them and a pandemonium and also Vader comes in.. yeah it's got lots of crazy moments and I highly recommend it!

This book is quintessential Aphra showing the crazy hijinks she gets involved in and how everything gets messy and all but somehow alright too haha. The twists with the wookie and the droids was fun, the latter seems to be in a weird interesting state seems like next volume and I am excited to read it.

This volume was just Gillen having fun showing how our Archaeologist just gets into the most weird adventures but still is and acts nobles at times so it's fun to read so yeah definitely do check it out and the art is okayish for the most part but it's the story that will have you hooked.

In the last collection, Doctor Aphra has found a way to activate the crystal in which an ancient Jedi resides. She now holds an open auction where this crystal is for sale. Things do not go exactly the way she had planned.

Alright. I am on board now. I am a total Doctor Aphra fan now. This was such a fun collection and I see the appeal of this character now. She is a scoundrel who is trying to make her way in the galaxy but things never go the way she intends. I am grateful for that as we get to see her high jinks and enjoy the ride. This collection had a little of everything. We get a flashback as we learn about a side character, return of a character that I truly appreciate, and the murder droids that seek freedom. The last concept was handled so much better in this than in the movie Solo. Throughout this collection I chuckled, appreciated the artwork, and loved the action.

This was just a well rounded collection that has made me a true fan of the character. I wasn't crazy about this character in her introduction in another comic run. The first collection of hers swayed me somewhat but now I am a total convert. I look forward to the next adventure of Doctor Aphra.

Synopsis: Doctor Aphra's plan to make quick credits starts well...but ends badly! When she plans on selling an ancient Jedi artifact, she finds her life in danger from the galaxy's biggest villains, ranging from Darth Vader to the Hutts! Also: The fearsome Wookie bounty Hunter, Black Krrsantan, is hunted down by aliens...but, they don't know who they're dealing with!

The Good: Like usual, the artwork and story here were fabulous. For Star Wars fans like me, this is a treat.

The Bad: Some unnecessary bits here and there.

Content Concerns:
Sex:
None.
Nudity: Women in low-cut tops; a lady seen from a distance in a bare-midriff outfit.
Language: One or two uses of the h-word.
Violence: Fantasy action violence throughout that occasionally gets bloody.
Drugs: None.
Frightening/Intense Scenes: Scary villains; freaky visuals; emotional intensity.

This was quite a fun one - it's about Aphra on another money-making scheme following Screaming Citadel. A lot goes on, and it's quite a blast. It doesn't have as many great Aphra moments as future volumes do, though. This is one of those SW comics where it gets a little weird, but since this is one of Aphra's comics, it works.

That ending is chilling though... Triple Zero is terrifying...

4/5 stars!

Not sure why exactly but not as fun as the previous stories with the good Doctor. This arc seems to want to wrap up her current situation, that of having two murderous droids (my favorites) and a wookie following her around. However, these characters and her moral ambiguity made her interesting, and by the end you get the impression that she no longer is (interesting). She also borders a little too closely to "Indiana Jones in space" which makes her yet another derivative character in a world full of derivatives and reboots. At this point she's probably better off being a secondary character.

I'll say one thing up front: the Bad Doctor can work a room when she is of a mind to!

Inconsistent artwork and an overall lack of relatable characters made this one a middle-of-the-road Star Wars comic for me, definitely enjoyable but not exactly Galaxy-shaking. Aphra is considerably more competent than Boomerang, but still the tone and hijinks reminded me of The Superior Foes of Spider-Man Omnibus more than anything else.

This second volume of Doctor Aphra actually reminded me a little bit of Sandman: A Season of Mists. Except a lot more murderous robots...
Aphra has convened a large gathering of the criminal underworld to auction off the Rur crystal. At first things go well, but the murder droids manage to make things a bit more... interesting (and incidentally, I really appreciated the presence of HK droids as bit characters). Things blow up impressively, with a number of casualties and alliances and betrayals falling out. The ending gives a satisfactory conclusion for almost everyone, all of which feel earned. There's also an annual that focuses on Black Krrsantan's back story, with the requisite twists and dark humor. I think this volume actually ends up being a little stronger than the first, although it does trade some of its pathos for action and laughs. It gets very dark in its humor, but offers up some interesting food for thought too. All told, a very enjoyable read that I strongly recommend.

Here's my long overdue review for the second volume of the Dr. Aphra comic, something I finished reading last week.

The first volume of this series was quite enjoyable. Aphra was first introduced in Kieron Gillen's Darth Vader comics, and was one of the few aspects that remained consistently good for the entire run. Now that she has her own comic, she has proven herself to be quite capable of carrying her own story without Vader.
"The Enormous Profit" was a fun read, if a bit inferior to the first volume Aphra.

THE STORY: After unlocking the Rur Crystal in The Screaming Citadel, Dr. Aphra prepares to sell it in order to make a freighter-load of credits. She invites numerous high profile crime syndicates to auction it off too- but of course, it doesn't go as planned.

THE BAD: There's a few problems here that bog this entry down.
The biggest one is the artwork. It looked fine in the first volume, but here it feels like Kev Walker isn't putting in as much effort. The character drawings don't look as good and the backgrounds are lacking in detail.
Another problem is that the story just isn't that interesting. I'm not sure whether it was just too stretched out of a premise or I missed the treasure-hunting setup from the previous volume, but I felt like this story was too thin for a full six issues. It is fine to collect multiple smaller story arcs in a single TPB- the Poe Dameron comics utilized this pretty well (especially in Legend Lost, and the pacing in John Jackson Miller's amazing "Knights of the Old Republic" series benefited greatly from it. The auction room just wasn't an interesting enough place to sustain a full six-issue story.

THE GOOD: This was a mostly satisfying way to tie up the threads concerning the Ruhr crystal and move the series on to bigger and (hopefully) better things, much like how Vindication in the Knights of the Old Republic series ties up all the major threads but leaves enough open to make sure I wanted more.
Dr. Aphra continues to be a fun character, and I am eager to see her on a new adventure in the next volume, especially now that she has cleaned her slate from any of the baggage from before. I look forward to the fresh beginning that has been promised.
Triple Zero and BT didn't really have any good jokes, but they were entertaining in other ways. Black Krrsantan finally gets all the wholes in his backstory plugged up and I liked seeing how his character's baggage was dealt with here too.
While most aspects of the artwork were not very good, the action was exciting to see on the panels. Kieron Gillen's dialogue was also pretty fun.

THE CONCLUSION: Final rating is 3.5 stars.
The story told here dragged, but there was enough fun to be had from Aphra as a character and some of the sequences to carry it through, as well as an ending that left me excited to continue. If you are a fan of the Dr. Aphra character this will probably tide you over until you get around to Doctor Aphra, Vol. 3: Remastered. However, if you didn't like the first volume or are just not into Dr Aphra and her adventures, I'd skip this because it won't change your mind. Take this one for what it is.

Spinning out of Volume 1 and the Screaming Citadel crossover, Doctor Aphra now holds the Immortal Rur, an ancient Jedi AI, and she's going to sell him to the highest bidder. But wait, who invited Darth Vader? Plus, the secret origin of Black Krrsantan!

Doctor Aphra is exactly the kind of comic character that Kieron Gillen was born to write. Between her snark and Triple-Zero's deadpan murder, this book is a laugh a minute. What begins as an Ocean's Eleven type story soon becomes typical Star Wars battles, explosions and all. And then things get even more exciting when Triple-Zero, BeeTee, and Darth Vader all show up with their own agendas.

If Aphra was the breakout character of Vader's solo series, Triple-Zero and BeeTee are the breakouts from Aphra's (yeah I know they were in Vader too, you know what I mean). These two finally graduate from comic relief and slightly worrying to actual threats on their own, and it's actually pretty scary to see happen. Aphra always seems to be in complete control (even when she clearly doesn't), so to see her completely on the back foot for a change is super effective.

The annual's great fun too; the reasoning behind both Krrsantan's debt and Aphra's motivations for the whole story work really well, and explain a lot about Krrsantan's actions both here and in the Star Wars solo book.

Kev Walker's back for the main series issues with his blockiness working well once again, although Aphra can look super young when she's not in her usual attire. Marc Laming and Will Sliney match up nicely for the annual too, which feels very different to the main story so it works having a different set of artists for it.

Doctor Aphra's solo adventures are a rollercoaster ride of awesome. Strap in, grab your Protocol Droid, and come along for the ride.

Gesamt: 5/5

The adorable former Imperial rogue archaeologist, Doctor Chelli Aphra, is back in the second volume, “Doctor Aphra and the Enormous Profit”, in which she has gathered a motley crue of intergalactic gangsters, criminals, and all-around not-nice aliens to an auction of her latest find, an A.I. copy of a an ancient Jedi knight named Rur, who was obsessed with immortality. She’s selling it off to the highest bidder, except she doesn’t count on Rur taking umbrage against the fact that she’s selling him off to the highest bidder like a piece of chattel. Carnage ensues on the space station. As if that wasn’t bad enough, a Star Destroyer arrives with an uninvited guest, one that Aphra knows only too well: her former boss. You know him, too. He’s tall, dark, and has a breathing problem. Oh, and he’s super strong in the Dark Side of the Force. Now, it’s a race against time to get off the station with her money and her life.

Aphra apparently got her start as a minor character in the “Darth Vader” comic book series. Someone at Disney/Marvel had the idea to give her her own series, and a brilliant idea it has become. She’s a tough, fearless little Sassypants. Think a petite female Han Solo.

The artwork by Kev Walker (with occasional help by Marc Laming and Will Sliney) is fabulous, and Kieron Gillen’s writing is exciting and fun.

If I have any complaint about this series it’s that I read them too fast because I have to turn the damned pages quickly to find out what happens next...

I am very much enjoying the Doctor Aphra character. She's not on the good side, she's not on the bad side, and she has a scientific and dark mind. This volume starts out with Black Krrsantan's backstory. I like how he's obviously a Chewbacca counterpart as well as the murder droids are mirrors to the original droid duo, but they all have really come into their own. The murder droids are excellent in this volume and I'm super excited to see where they go next. I could see them having their own ongoing series. There are plenty of fun black market characters in this story. Just like Doctor Aphra herself, this volume is fun and dark. By the end of this volume, the dynamic has changed and I can't wait to see where it goes next.

I give this volume a 5/5. I want more original characters like Doctor Aphra!

A while back started reading graphic novels, found it a nice change of pace from reading traditional books and this actually is my second read related to Star Wars. Saw the first four volumes of this series, where free on Prime, so decided to give it a try, really liked it, liked the Doctor Aphra character, the graphics are great and like this one a lot. Real like the graphics in this one, it continues the storyline in Vol. 1, will read more of the series, may even try more from the Star Wars franchise and would recommend this one.

I’ve seen a lot of people really express their love for Aphra and I’ve also seen a lot of people really express their distaste for her. I believe that this is the volume where you can justifiably make your decision on how you feel about her. I totally understand why some wouldn’t be fans of the character, but this issue really showcases who she is, and I really enjoyed it! Plus, Krrsantan’s origin issue, Vader is back, and homicidal droids are too freaking cool!

Not my favorite of the issues so far.

Aphra has a high-value artifact that she risks everything to sell. Things go astray because of course they do. The writing was fine, but not brilliant, and a bit confusing. The art was all over the place which is frustrating for me. I like consistency.

This book was so incredibly fun to read. Doctor Aphra tries to auction off the ancient Jedi artificial intelligence that she acquired in the previous volume and invites a section of the "scum and villainy" demographic to vie for the prize. Of course, when homicidal droids Triple Zero and Beetee are involved, nothing ever goes according to plan.

There was so much great humor in this volume, particularly in the scenes with Triple Zero (who rivals Chopper and HK-47 for being my favorite Star Wars droid) that it was an absolute delight from start to finish. I really enjoy getting to know Doctor Aphra's character better (and speaking of favorites, she has got to be in my top five favorite Star Wars characters overall). The supporting characters really add to the book, and there's an annual included in this volume that gives us Black Krrsanten's back story, which on the surface looks exactly like you'd expect, but throws some very interesting nuance into it that gives it some unexpected depth.

Kev Walker's art was great, falling comfortably between the too-cartoonish and awkwardly photo-realistic art found in the Screaming Citadel volume. His artwork is consistent, characters are highly recognizable, his droids are interestingly detailed, and his new aliens/droids/vehicles are well designed. I also enjoyed the "space gown" that Aphra was wearing when she got all fancy for the auction--it looked very much like something that would fit into the Star Wars universe.

I'm LOVING this book. That said, I'm a little uncertain about the next volume, which is cowritten by Simon Spurrier, who has been a fine writer in my experience, but Kieron Gillen captures the voices of these characters so well that I'm hoping the general feel of the book doesn't change too much. I cannot recommend this series enough.

4.5 STARS

Silly fun space adventure, as Dr. Aphra sets up an auction to sell the crystal she stole in the previous volume. Double crosses, killer robots, cutthroats, criminals... what’s not to like? There’s nothing weighty here, just pew-pew action.

I quite liked the fact that Beezee and Triple-Zero (the killer droids) have their own motivation and agency, and Aphra’s relationship with Krrsantan is always on precarious footing.

The art is solid, as well. Nice clear storytelling, and the spaceships all look cool.

I’ve just downloaded the next two volumes, so away we go!

I really love this new character in the Star Wars universe, and have since the Darth Vader series that blew me away. This story is inventive, draws from great Star Wars history, and has an awesome Vader scene. The idea of an ancient Jedi being used in this ultraviolent way was pretty creative and interesting.

Of course the bloodthirsty violent droids come close to stealing the show in panel after panel.

The artwork was pretty and effective. I can’t wait to see what happens next with Dr. Aphra.

This is yet another great collection from one of my favorite Star Wars comic series! I love how fresh the character of Doctor Aphra feels and how this series shows the galaxy from a different point of view. The only downside for me is the murder droids (not nearly as bad as they are in the original Darth Vader run though). I think that's really just a personal preference and not necessarily anything against the writing. I'm so excited to see what this series has for us morning forward!

6/10:
This collection is a sort of new beginning for Doctor Aphra and all of her former (and current?) allies. We see the origins of Black Krrsantan and beginnings of fulfilling his life debt, BT-1 and Triple Zero have their freedom, Darth Vader has Immortal Rur, and Aphra herself is on vacation.

I’m excited to see where the story continues, but I hope Aphra gets time away from these characters we’ve seen her with so much!
