Harrison Bishop--yes, that Harrison Bishop--has saved humanity as we know it.
After his discovery of The Episcopus Aerobium bacteria nearly a decade ago, Harrison has become an enigma of a man. Now credited with curing virtually every disease known to mankind and masked by his illustrious personality, this walking salvation has a deadly secret he has hidden away from the public eye in the depths his cellar.
When Harrison acquires the business of his oldest colleague, Daisy Stone, the veil of his success is torn down to expose the ugly side of their utopia. Despite Daisy's notorious hatred towards Harrison and her infamous reputation of eradicating men who hinder her career, Harrison jumps at the opportunity to thrust himself into their forgotten world of debauchery, greed, and turmoil. As their lives come crashing together in a bloody wreckage, they must decide: who is the superior killer and who will outlive their war?
K M Dudley is the author of CAVALIER, her debut novel after wading in the pool of writing for nearly a decade. Shes lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her Australian Shepherd, Maverick. Although she spends her days in the software sector of Silicon Valley, by nights and weekends, she alternates between white wine and black coffee to write fiction and solve the mystery of the Zodiac Killer.
wow, this was a fun and gory read. i can't tell if i hate or love every character, but that's the point.
while the entire book feels like a theoretical discussion of morally gray characters, in the end, i genuinely want harrison and daisy to be happy--albeit, with some therapy.
After discovering a bacteria strain that managed to cure cancer and disease, Harrison Bishop is deemed the “cure-all kid”. Wealthy, charming, and… completely misunderstood. He’s idolized, put on a pedestal. How can the man, who saved so many, do any wrong?
Daisy Stone is a cutthroat girl boss (for lack of a better word). She’s willing to do what she needs to to get to the top. Ruthless? Sure. Heartless? Maybe.
What links the two together is a complicated past (and present) that they can’t seem to bury. We see different sides to these characters–a more human side–when they’re together. It's interesting watching how they completely unravel the facades they've built up when they're around each other.
It’s gory, and funny, and all the answers that you have at the beginning will be answered by the end.
There’s this sentence from Boy Parts that reminded me of the end of this novel, where the main character thinks “I wonder what the fuck I have to do for people to recognize me as a threat, you know? It’s like… am I even doing this shit? Have I even fucking done anything?”
This book is a must-read for anyone who loves a good thrill! I found myself unable to put the book down. The pages are filled with suspense and mystery, and the chapters filled with a compelling story of Harrison Bishop and Daisy Stone intertwined in ways unimaginable. As I uncovered the depth of the characters through both secrets told and untold, the grave truths left me wanting more. It’s the perfect gift for those who love suspense and for a reader who loves to be on the edge of his or her seat! Looking forward to the second book...
This book has a little bit of everything! The characters are so interesting and the author does a great job expressing their personalities, quirks, and sinister secrets through her writing -- I especially love all the attention to detail she uses throughout the book. Definitely a great fun, thrilling fall read!
Not bad for a first novel. Some parts seemed a little unorganized and I felt disconnected from the characters in certain parts. Story fell a little flat and a little unbelievable at times.
