Honeymoon Harbor #2

Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane

Rate this book
“Readers won’t want to leave the heartwarming stories of Honeymoon Harbor and its characters’ second chances at life and love.”—Publishers Weekly

Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane is another deftly crafted gem of a romance novel by an author who is an impressively consistent master of the genre.”—Midwest Book Review

Lose yourself in the magic, charm and romance of Christmas in the Pacific Northwest as imagined in JoAnn Ross’s heartwarming Honeymoon Harbor series.

Growing up on the wrong side of the tracks, Jolene Wells is forever indebted to the mother who encouraged her to fly—all the way to sunny LA and a world away from Honeymoon Harbor. Although Jolene vowed never to look back, returning home isn’t even a question when her mom faces a cancer scare. Which means running into Aiden Mannion all over town, the first boy she ever loved—and lost—and whom she can barely look in the eye.

Aiden’s black-sheep reputation may have diminished when he joined the marines, but everything he’s endured since has left him haunted. Back in Honeymoon Harbor to heal, he’s talked into the interim role of police chief, and the irony isn’t lost on the locals, least of all Aiden. But seeing Jolene after all these years is the unexpected breath of fresh air he’s been missing. He’s never forgotten her through all his tours, but he’s not sure anymore that he’s the man she deserves.

Despite the secret they left between them all those years ago, snow is starting to fall on their picturesque little town, making anything seem possible…maybe even a second chance at first love.

Don’t miss Second Chance Spring, JoAnn Ross’s much-anticipated return to Honeymoon Harbor where the majestic scenery of this small coastal town is second only to the legendary romances that have built the community.

Heartwarming romance.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When you are a romance junkie it’s hard not to fall for the sweet romance stories that come out this time of year. This one was a perfect read to kick off the holiday season.
My first story by Joanne Ross is a look at life in small-town USA where high school sweethearts never truly got over each other. You can get lost in the descriptions of this beautiful town in small-town atmosphere.
Getting ready for the holidays in Honeymoon Harbor brings back memories from when I was a kid. You can almost smell the pie in the oven and the cider on the stove. And romance is definitely in the air in a beautiful way.
Reading this story reminds me so much of the Christmas movies we binge watch during the holiday season. Even Christmas in July has found me watching those hour after hour. The author brings us warm comfort and cozy hearts across the pages.
Although it’s part of a series, I did not have an issue following the story. There is a lot of conversation about people in the town which is very true to life in a small town. My mom and I used to have conversations very similar to the ones that happen in this story.
This story is definitely one that will bring out the romance in your heart and the warm memories of the holidays into your soul. It’s a wonderful choice for the upcoming holiday season; sweet and heart warming.
Does anyone else love holiday movies like the ones on the Hallmark Channel? If so, this book totally reminded me of one and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find out it will eventually be a made for TV movie. And while it definitely features holiday magic it’s not necessarily a Christmas book, in fact it covers the month of November as well as December making it the perfect read for now.
This is the second in a series but I did not read the first book and had no issues starting here. It’s set in a town called Honeymoon Harbor which is full of charming and interesting characters and is also complete with a quaint little setting making it an ideal sweet read.
Jolene was a typical and extremely likable heroine who comes back home to visit her mom and Aiden is a typical swoon worthy hero who is back home and acting as the temporary chief of police. What was not typical about the both of them (and the supporting characters) was that they felt genuine and their budding romance was incredibly tender and sweet which was just what I was in the mood for when I picked this one up. If you like second chance romances give this a try!
I am a romantic at heart. I love a happy ending and a really good romance. Having it be set during the holidays just sweetens the deal for me.
JoAnn Ross is a new writer to me but it looks like she has written a number of romance series. This isn’t a book that I would normally pick up but I loved that it was set in the Pacific Northwest on the coast. I think the PacNW offers a unique setting for romances—-its a rugged, stormy, unpredictable, and unforgiving coastline so I thought that the setting would add to the story.
I have mixed feelings about this book and the writing. The characters were your typical romantic cliches and that was fine by me. Jolene was a small town girl turned big time makeup artist and Aiden is a former bad boy who turned Marine/cop with a broken life and past. While they had a history, it was immediately apparent to the readers what that past entailed. I liked the classic cliche—I mean, sometimes romances aren’t known for their twisted plots. I got exactly what I hoped for on that front—-a classic and likable romantic story.
I found Aiden sexy and could easily love him and the hero. Jolene wasn’t my favorite, but let’s be honest if I’m reading a romance I’m there for the love interest/hero. I was satisfied with Aiden and the general plot of the story—especially the holiday parts. I felt like that added a lot in the way of extra romance.
What I took issue with was the writing. I felt like the writing was a little too relaxed and conversational—-plus I wasn’t really sure what this book was trying to be. Romance isn’t always the Pulitzer Prize so I get that it’s supposed to be more relaxed and easy reading……something you read by the fire on holiday in this particular case. But for me I just felt like I had read other holiday romances that I liked better when it came to writing. The story was more enjoyable in this one, but the writing was distracting. It just seemed to meander and there were too many times when the author had to explain things to the reader that weren’t necessary.
For example, early on when Jolene has learned about her mom’s lump, Jolene is talking about how much she owes to her mom and how everything has been so good for them but then the author jumps in and has to tell the reader ‘except for that lump’—-or something to that effect. For me I was like well—-dah. I don’t need to be told that. It was distracting and I felt like I was being told a story rather then experiencing a story if that makes sense.
The other issue I struggled with was the incorporating of too many different genres for lack of a better word. There was a paranormal element that I wasn’t expecting, of course the holiday part, a little talk of Catholic guilt which made me think of Christian fiction, and then there was the romance itself. I don’t know it just seemed like there was a little much going on for me. The paranormal part—for me—-was unnecessary. I think the story would have stood alone without it or having the friend be incorporated in a different way.
The book felt really long as well. It seemed really bogged down by too many explanations and too many words. I felt like I had been reading for such a long time and that I should have been further in the plot than I actually was.
While I struggled with this one and had a hard time with the mechanics, I did get exactly what I was hoping for. A romance that was heartwarming and tender. I love the whole ‘the one that got away’ troupe so that aspect of the story was fun for me and I was invested in the characters enough to finish the book, but on the whole this one was just ok for me.
Who’s a sucker for small town romance? THIS GIRL!! If you are as well, then Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane is just the book for you. Throw in the Christmas season and you’ve got yourself a holiday romance that can compete with anything the Hallmark Channel is offering.
Also, like me, if you’re a sucker for a second-chance-romance, this will make it all the more perfect! In all sincerity, I just really loved the way Jolene and Aiden circled and reconnected with each other. Sweet, needed, and exactly what each other deserved.
Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane is a perfect stocking-stuffer-read and will put you firmly in the holiday spirit!
Apparently I am in the minority and surprised at all the high ratings. The PB version has so many errors it was impossible to overlook. I also found the author just threw the token lesbian into the story for no reason other than to be PC...just annoys the hell out of me. Why now days is it that if you write a book you must cover all bases rather than just write what comes naturally. It is so forced and takes away from the story. Just not my thing....moving on.
Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane is the second book in the Honeymoon Harbor series by JoAnn Ross, although it is my first book from the author. Although there are clear references to the characters in book one, it is not necessary to understand their story to enjoy Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane. That being said, I am now interested in giving Herons Landing a read to find out more.
If I’m being completely honest, Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane wasn’t quite a full four-star rating. It was, however, close enough that I needed to round up. It’s a sweet romance, one that is perfect for the festive season. We have a second chance romance, and two characters dealing with their past. The way the relationship blooms between the two was great to watch, and I found myself sucked into the other side drama that was introduced to us throughout the story.
The reason this wasn’t quite a full four-star rating is because I found myself more invested in some of the side elements than in the main storyline. There was a small mystery to enjoy, and this really captured my attention as I’m quite the mystery fan. We were also introduced to what I imagine will be the basis for the next book in the series, and if I’m right I really enjoyed the way the characters interacted.
Nevertheless, Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane was a great introduction to JoAnn Ross and I’ll certainly be back for more.
SNOWFALL ON LIGHTHOUSE LANE is the second book in the Honeymoon Harbor series, but I enjoyed it without reading the first book. Honeymoon Harbor is a small, friendly town that thrives on gossip, and the townspeople know everything going on as soon as it happens (thanks to the town’s Facebook page as well as word of mouth.) In this story, Aiden has moved back home after a stint in the armed services and has taken the job of acting sheriff. Jolene is a makeup artist in LA, who has just had a rather public breakup. She returns to town, under the auspices of spending Christmas with her mom, when she finds out about her mother's health scare. Jolene and Aiden have a past, but they both ran scared. Can they rekindle those feelings and if they do, can they act on them and figure out how to make a relationship work?
The story flows well with multiple plots going on that blend seamlessly together. The story involves family and friends, romance and the holidays. The characters are well developed and we learn about their past together as well as what they have done since they left Honeymoon Harbor. I really liked both Aiden and Jolene and it was easy to see that they have chemistry. Their feelings for one another come rushing back as they spend time together. Even though everyone around them sees that they are meant to be together, neither of them are ready to take the next step in their relationship. I liked the interactions between all the characters and how they were always there to lend a hand and help out. The story isn’t all happy moments, as there is the health scare and a bit of a mystery. Of course this is a romance and there will be a happily ever after, but the story takes you for a bit of a ride before it gets there. This is another of those stories that would make a wonderful Christmas movie.
DNF= It just wasn't my cup of tea. I'm sorry, I will not be posting a review online for this title. Unfortunately, I couldn't get past 12% of the book. It felt like a very rough 1st draft, so I couldn't read another word. I wanted to stop at 2%, but I was trying to be fair.
I hate giving books low reviews but honestly this was one of the most boring books I have ever read. I am an accomplished reader averaging nine books a month but just could not get into this book at all.
This book needed to be shorter. It seemed to have trouble deciding if it wanted to be a mystery or a romance novel. Jolene had gone to LA and became a makeup artist after being nominated for an emmy she decides to open her own makeup selling business. She had been able to help her mother out by buying her a house and goes back to see her after she finds out her mother has a lump in her breast. Her first love,Aiden is there and is the new chief of police. Their trials between her mother and his police duties, plus their past make up the story.
I Love Christmas books! There is just something about a romance happening at that special time of year that I just can't get enough of. Joann Ross' Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane is a great Christmas story.
Jolene Wells is the poor girl from the wrong side of the tracks that has turned her life of rags to riches. She is a well known Hollywood makeup and hair expert. She's worked with the biggest stars and is well liked. This lady is smart, independent, she works hard, and she loves her Mom. She is in need of a place to stay and her Mom is in need of a confidence boost and maybe someone to lean on. Either way, it was the perfect time to go home. I loved Jolene's relationship with her Mom. They're mother and daughter but really good friends too.
Aiden Mannion is home to try to recover from all that he has been through. He lost his partner in a police raid that went horribly wrong. He truly is one of the good guys and is lost without his partner and feeling horrible about the way things went down. There is an unexpected guest with him along the way. I don't want to give out too much information but I really enjoyed this aspect of the story and it sure did put things in a different prospect.
Aiden is asked to step in to help out the local police department in Honeymoon Harbor. He finds himself running into the girl he loved in high school, the one that got away and went on to Hollywood.
I really enjoyed watching Jolene and Aiden getting to know each other again. There is a lot going on but this just might be their chance at a happily ever after. I loved the family interaction and the small town aspect. There is a good dose of drama, a lovely romance, friends and family looking out for each other, and characters that are really easy to bond with. Overall I really enjoyed this story and I will be watching for more of JoAnn Ross' work. This is part of a series but Ms. Ross has done a great job so that it stands on its own just fine.
I was given the opportunity to read this great story and it has been my pleasure to share my thoughts with you.
Aiden and Jolene were sweethearts in high school but life took them in different directions. Him to the military and then to LA as a cop, and her to Hollywood. Ironic they ended up living near each other, but they don’t get a chance to reunite until they both return home to Honeymoon Harbor. The town's juvenile delinquent from a founding family is now the police chief, and the girl from the wrong side of the tracks has made a name for herself as an Emmy-nominated makeup artist.
I’ve been a fan of this author for years, so I was excited to read an early copy of this book. There were a lot of things I liked about it, but it could have been a bit shorter without losing any substance. I found myself skipping over many passages that rehashed previously revealed information but didn’t add to the story or move the storyline forward. I loved the small-town setting and the vivid, sometimes quirky supporting characters. Aiden and Jolene were complex, fully developed and likeable so I had no trouble connecting with them and becoming invested in their story. I also really enjoyed the addition of Bodhi, and while a ghost character is a departure for Ms. Ross, he added a lot to the story and helped Aiden work through some things. I also liked the subplot of Jolene's mother finding love again. And really, what's better than love and romance at Christmas? Any fans of Ms. Ross will thoroughly enjoy this book.
I was just reading this to give away and clear stuff from the house, because I usually don't keep romances around, but was struck by the subplots around domestic violence and breast cancer.
The portion of the book around the emotions and medical aspects of the breast cancer scare were surprisingly accurate. I'm a medical librarian, and fictional portrayals of medical information tend to make my skin crawl, so this was a real delight.
This was one of the most realistic and compassionate portrayals of domestic violence in fiction that I've ever read. Non-blaming of both parties, portrayed some of the complexities and nuance around why people stay and why people leave. The closing scene of this subplot in the restaurant (I'm trying so hard to avoid spoilers!) literally brought tears to my eyes. It was such a surprise.
Bonus points awarded for best use of a ghost as a character. I typically roll my eyes around romances that include a ghost as a character, but I've never seen this done as well as in this book.
This story left so much unresolved, but even so was still too long. There was just too much that Joann Ross was trying to fit in to this book, such as: the battle scarred former marine/cop; crooked cops; the cancer scare; the small-town life; middle age romance; and the list goes on. It was too long, it could have easily been about a third shorter and far too many of the characters were two dimensional. Many of the subplots were unnecessary and did not add to the overall story of Jolene and Aiden. The plot was good, but by piling so much else into the book, that was lost. The ending felt to me contrived, a bit twee and felt rushed. The use of the ghost of Aiden’s dead partner Bodhi was just over the top and dragged out the book. Why I finished it I really don’t know, but I did enjoy the first book (and short story) in this series, so perhaps I wanted to see what was happening with those characters.
I really enjoyed this one, and liked both Jolene and Aiden, as well as the whole host of secondary characters. Yes, there are a lot of things going on including, but definitely not limited to, olene's mother's potential cancer, Aiden's seeing his dead partner's ghost, Amanda (a local) resident dealing with abuse, Jolene's mother's potential romance with Aiden's uncle, to name just a few. But all of that (and more) somehow made it feel more real (well, except for the ghost). Life is often complicated, and I liked the complications. I'm hoping Amanda will get her own story at some point.
Overall, I'd give this a B, so four stars here. I'll definitely read the next in the series, and hope for more.
Aiden Madden, ex LA cop, has gone back to his hometown, Honeymoon Harbor, after a shooting that results in him being shot and his partner killed. His partner has come back to haunt him. Jolene is a successful Hollywood make up artist. She returns to town when her Mother has a health scare. Aiden and Jolene were a couple for awhile in high school.
I was surprised this book had a ghost, not my favorite genre. Not what I would expect from a Ross book. For me the book dragged in parts. This is a second chance romance that I would have liked much more without the ghost. This
is also the 2nd book in a series but it could be read on its own. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
Jolene Wells is an award nominated Hollywood makeup artist.
But she returns home to make sure her mother is alright. Her mother has some medical tests and could be ok or not.
Aiden Mannion is the local police chief returned home as well. He and Jolene were high school sweethearts and never got over each other.
Aiden is also regrouping after a stressfull stint in the Marines and as a cop in LA.
He blames himself for his partner getting killed in an ambush.
Aiden sees this as his second chance with Jolene and intends to make the most of it.
And all set at Christmas. Nice romance.
FirstLine ~ Life, as Aiden Mannion knew firsthand, could be dangerous.
I know this book is set around the holidays, but is really good for anytime. I just finished it and adored it! I loved the story line, it was beautiful, heartbreaking and one I will not forget anything soon. It was beautifully fleshed out, in a setting that will make you swoon with characters you want to read about...sounds amazing right?!?! It really is completely charming and delightful. I could really see it being turned into the Hallmark movie, which I would LOVE!!! A must read for a feel good, warming story that will remaining in your heart well after the last page!
This is a modern day romance featuring Jolene Wells and Aiden Mannion as the main characters. Both have recently returned to Honeymoon Harbor and both are determined not to see the other. They have a past from high school which didn't end well. The story is set around the Christmas holidays. The book was a very quick easy read.
Not really sure how to feel about this book. It ended with me feeling like major plot points (Bodhi, cancer, etc) were never really resolved. Aiden and Jolene were cute but it all felt a bit superficial and easy considering their long history. Bodhi was the best part of the book hands down
Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane is book two in the Honeymoon Harbor series. Jolene was the character from the previous book I was most looking forward to learning more about. I enjoyed the small-town setting and the romance. The book had a paranormal element I wasn’t expecting that seemed out of place given this is a contemporary romance. Still, I can't deny I enjoyed those parts, so I guess I can't complain too much. I did struggle a bit with the pacing. Parts seemed to drag on. Overall I liked the story, however. Not quite as much as the first book, but still.
3.5 stars. Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane is #2 in JoAnn Ross' Honeymoon Harbor series. This time its another delectable Mannion brother and the woman he's loved since forever, but somehow they never quite worked it all out when they were young.
Now they are older and wiser and for varying reasons find themselves back in Honeymoon Harbor.  Aidan with a bit of arm twisting from his father takes on the role of police chief to fill in a gap. And he has to be the ideal man for the job for any small town. He has lots of experience, is totally a good cop who isn't going to take any nonsense when its needed and has a really soft heart when it comes to those in distress.
Jolene is a talented young woman but she has had her share of trauma but is now back in town to support her mother. She provides the feel good mother/daughter relationship in the story, and while she doesn't want to make any commitment that will tie her down, it has to be said she hasn't lost her feelings for Aidan.
A small town, feel good story with just enough tension applied along the way to boost interest for the reader. And yes there is a little bit of Christmas happening in the final chapter. And as well an ephemeral  character Bodhi, mate and working partner of Aidan who provide some extra interest to the story.
Originally published at Reading Reality
After yesterday’s book of sad I really felt the need for a happy-ever-after pick-me-up, and Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane delivered.
That I had two books in a row with “lighthouse” in the title but that they are complete opposites has turned out to be a good thing.
Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane is the second book in the author’s Honeymoon Harbor series. I haven’t read the first book (I haven’t read this author before) but I didn’t feel lost or left out. Honeymoon Harbor seems like one of those cozy small towns (like Haven Point and Sullivan’s Crossing and Icicle Falls and Thunder Point) where everyone does know everybody’s name and everybody’s business. And where a stranger in town – or a new reader – can easily pick up enough backstory to fit right in.
Not that either the hero or the heroine of this little tale need much background to get up to speed on all the town doings. Both Aiden Mannion and Jolene Harper grew up in Honeymoon Harbor. Aiden, in spite of – or perhaps because of – being the mayor’s son was the town bad boy. Jolene was the daughter of a teenage mother who worked three jobs to keep the two of their heads above water while her ne’er-do-well husband was in and out of jail.
Jolene grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, and Aiden’s antics kept him there. Of course, they fell in love in high school, but they kept their trysts a secret. He was worried about tarnishing her reputation by publicly being the girlfriend of the town bad boy, and she feared that the scion of one of the founding families wouldn’t want to be known as the boyfriend of a girl whose mother was rumored to be turning tricks.
Of course none of the rumors about Jolene or her mother were true, but that never stopped people from spreading rumors – or lies.
Aiden left town for the Marines, and then for several years in the LAPD. Jolene left town and never looked back, parlaying her mother’s talent for hair and makeup into an Oscar-nominated career in Hollywood.
Now they’re both back in town. Aiden because his cop partner was killed in an ambush, and Jolene because her mother is sailing up the river DeNial about a cancer scare. They’re both back in town to pick up the pieces of the lives they left behind.
Aiden finds himself the town’s chief of police after the old chief has a stroke. Jolene has come to make sure her mother gets the tests she needs, and to figure out where to go from here after her apartment goes up in flames and her career goes up in smoke after she signs a well-publicized #MeToo petition.
Which puts them both back in town for the Christmas holidays, ready for their own second chance at their first happily ever after. Just like the Hallmark movies that Jolene and her mother love to binge.
Escape Rating B+: Sometimes you just get the right book at the right time. This was one of those books at one of those times. I wanted a sweet story with a happy ending, and that’s what I got. And I feel so much better!
There is a lot to love about this heartwarming story – and my heart is very warm after reading it. It teeters just on the edge of being too sappy, but never quite falls over that edge. It also flirts with some of the classic romantic tropes that can easily go wrong – but thankfully never goes there, either.
Jolene’s trip to help her mother is a case in point. This isn’t a weepy tear-jerker story, so her mother Gloria has NOT been diagnosed with cancer. Instead, a recent exam found a suspicious lump in her breast, and Gloria is just refusing to get the tests to determine whether there is something to worry about.
While Gloria’s friend shouldn’t be revealing her secrets to her daughter, everyone in her mother’s salon heard her when she got the phone call – so not exactly a well-kept secret.
Not that there are many well-kept secrets in Honeymoon Harbor, except the ones that absolutely have to be.
The story here, in its ebbs and flows, is Jolene and Aiden’s journey, not to their past, but to their present – complete with a ghost of Christmas present perched on Aiden’s shoulder.
All of the loose ends of their lives, both their first teenaged love and their current adult trials are all wrapped up with a nice, neat bow at the end of the story. If you like a good happy-ever-after, this one is a treat.
"Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane" follows Aiden and Jolene. Their high school romance crashed and burned after Aiden stole a beer and was given an ultimatum by the judge- join the military when he turns 18 or go to juvie. There is also some event that they are both embarrassed by which we learn about later. Now, they are both adults.
Aiden was a marine for a while before becoming a police officer in LA. After a terrible shoot-out where his partner was killed and he was wounded, he turned to drink. Recently, his father, the mayor of Honeymoon Harbor, asked him to take over the Police Chief job temporarily until they could find a replacement, and Aiden reluctantly agreed. However, once he was there, he really hit his stride. There's just one little catch- he still sees and speaks to his partner's ghost.
Jolene has been working as a make-up artist in Hollywood, with her work earning her an Emmy nomination. As part of the #metoo movement, she signed a letter along with other non-actor people that she knows might get her blacklisted. However, she is ready to start her own make-up and skin care line. She is returning to her apartment in LA when she gets a phone call and learns that her mother has a lump in her breast for which she won't get follow up testing. To add on to that, her apartment is on fire and everything is gone. Taking the opportunity, she heads home to Honeymoon Harbor to convince her mother to go to the hospital for the ultrasound she needs plus give her time to start her new business.
On her way back into town, she is pulled over by the new police chief for speeding. The sparks they felt in high school are still there, but they aren't sure if they can leave the past behind and start anew. Following each in alternating third person, we follow their personal and joint journeys toward healing and beginning a new chapter in Honeymoon Harbor.
Overall, I really enjoyed the book- they are a great couple, and there is enough other things going on that it felt very fast-paced. There were quite a few mentions about traditional gender roles, and I wasn't sure how I felt about the way they were handled (e.g. cooking is women's work but can be manly when you do it once and a while for romance- I would say that it should be shared equally because both of you eat). However, these were overall very minor, so I found them easy to overlook. I would give warnings though for domestic violence, adultery, and being drugged (though nothing happened/was in the past). I also wasn't sure how I felt about the ghost, but this was an interesting element that gave the book some supernatural flair.
I really liked reading about Aiden's work on the police force and the cases he finds/solves. There are some really heart-warming scenes during his work (like the stolen gnome case). I also really loved the mother-daughter relationship that Jolene has, and this really shone throughout the book (I'm wondering if we'll get to hear more about Gloria's new romance). Notably, it's also a clean romance with all action off the page (minor mentions towards the end). It was a quick and fun read with a holiday twist.
Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane is book #2 in the Honeymoon Harbor series, but can easily be read as a standalone.
I spent the majority of my time reading this book propped up on the couch in front of the Christmas tree, with a wretched cold. As such, it took me a while to get through reading it but it was so worth it!
Jolene Wells is a successful makeup artist working in Los Angeles when she receives some bad news. Her mom has had a cancer scare and is resistant to the doctor’s recommendation of follow-up tests. Determined to be there for her mom, Jolene returns to her hometown of Honeymoon Harbor, Washington.
Fresh back in town, Jolene crosses paths with Aiden Mannion, the one who got away so many years ago. Once upon a time, Jolene and Aiden had a secret high school romance. Jolene was from the wrong side of the tracks, which left her vulnerable to the town’s mean girls. Aiden was from an upstanding family, but a bad boy incident left him facing an ultimatum from a judge: go to juvie, or enlist in the Marines after graduation. Off to the Marines Aiden went.
After leaving the military, Aiden worked for the LAPD before landing back in Honeymoon Harbor as their interim police chief. But Aiden’s facing traumatic memories and ghosts from the past that he can’t seem to shake.
During a traffic stop, he pulls Jolene over on her first day back in town. It’s obvious that there’s plenty of unfinished business between the two of them, and the sparks that flew so easily fourteen years ago are brighter than ever.
I enjoyed this book a lot. The romance is a true slow burn and I loved the second chance elements that are magnified by Jolene and Aiden’s complicated history. I only wished that we could have had more glimpses into their rekindled romance, as I loved their inevitable reunion and wish we could have spent more time lingering on it.
With small-town romances, sometimes the various characters can seem like an afterthought or merely comic relief. That’s not the case here. The supporting characters feel just as fully fleshed-out as the main ones, leaving me with a lasting impression of the town (and a desire to visit, if only it were possible). I’m looking forward to going back and reading the first book in the series, as well as reading the next one.
More than just a feel-good read, Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane is a story about the importance of family and community, and the sweetness of love that’s been lost and found. Highly recommended.
This is the week that I'm sharing all the new Christmas books being released this year! Let's face it folks, Wal-Mart has started their holiday decorations, so maybe a few good Christmas stories will help get you in the mood! Today's post is about Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane by JoAnn Ross.  It is technically the second book in the Honeymoon Harbor series. The first story, Home to Honeymoon Harbor, was a prequel novella.  Next came Herons Landing, which was the first book in the series.  Next came Once Upon A Wedding, which was a novella containing the third story. So now we are on Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane which is officially book two. (Kind of complicated, but you can get clarity on it if you head over to the author's website.)
To be clear, I hadn't read anything previously in this series - novella, prequel, book or otherwise - so I can honestly say this book served as a stand alone.  I'll be a little more honest with you - I think if I had read at least book one, I believe the characters might had a little more depth based upon some of the reviews I've read on the story. Either way, I enjoyed this book and will pay attention so I can pick up any future stories in this series.
There's Aiden Mannion, an ex LA cop, who has had a pretty tough time lately and coming home has its own issues to deal with. Then there's Jolene Wells, who doesn't have a lot of great memories from Honeymoon Harbor, but her mom needs her so she has to come home. Aiden and Jolene have a history together - people don't really know about it and both of them have tried to forget it too.  Now, this second time around, will they be able to make things right?
This is a small town romance book about people getting a second chance and how they deal with their past. I have to say I was very surprised that the author included a ghost in this story - seemed like it would have been a great story without the ghost but hey, it was a great story overall.
I received an advanced readers digital copy of this book from Little Bird Publicity through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review and unbiased opinion. Thanks NetGalley and Little Bird Publicity!
