"Steven stood in the middle of the corpse-sown field and watched them walk away, desperately wanting to reach out but knowing that if he did, he'd risk losing her forever."
In the middle of the war between two powerful species that revealed the supernatural world to Humans, two people try to find their place among their kind and with each other while battling not only the circumstances, but their own nature too.
Steven -a Werewolf Prince- inherited his Alpha powers after murdering a rabid wolf but in doing so he disrupted the equilibrium inside his family´s pack where the power should pass from mother to daughter. Now, with both him and his sister Jen being Alphas and laden with guilt, Steven has to keep his head down and follow orders; play the good soldier in a war he detests.
When Jen sends him on a mission that will take him and his pack out of pack land for the first time, he finds Cora -the Magic Princess- born the first year of the war and believed to be the most powerful Magic that has ever walked the earth. The Anders Werewolves though cannot survive long outside their land and Jen hates Magics with passion after they kidnapped and killed her mate. Wolves mate for life so, determined to take her revenge, Jen leaves her brother to struggle with his own morality; save a girl who has spend her entire life being tortured by her own people or keep quiet and maintain his position at his sister´s side, keeping their people united?
Konstantina was born in 1988 in Korinthos, Greece, and soon after her family moved to Lefkada where she grew up until 2006 when she relocated to Athens for her studies. She has a BSc in Physics, an MSc in Materials Science, a PhD in Physics and a second PhD in Engineering. In 2013, she got her Diploma in Scriptwriting for TV, Film, Stage, Radio.
In 2020, she moved to the UK, where she currently lives. She keeps busy teaching in higher education and researching energy materials towards a greener future.
The Anders pack of werewolves share a land with Magic folk and humans. A bloody war took place and now the magical people and werewolves are sworn enemies. In the continuing power struggles the werewolves kidnap Cora, the Magic King’s daughter, hoping to use her as a bargaining tool.
Power in the Anders pack traditionally passes from mother to daughter. Jen is the Alpha female of the pack, but her younger brother Steven created his own pack. Although Steven treats Jen as his queen, there are times when disagreements challenge their positions.
Cora is not what the werewolves expect and they find themselves connecting to her rather than seeing her as their enemy. This leads to a predictable showdown finale. See here for full review https://wp.me/p2Eu3u-bap
Magic and werewolves mix when Steven and Cora's paths cross. I thought the story was interesting, I liked reading about this new world and I thought the characters were good. A good read for urban fantasy/supernatural fans.
Konstantina P.’s Wolf Heart introduces us to a really cool world where two powerful supernatural species are duking it out for dominance. One is the werewolves led by Jen and (inadvertently) her brother Steven. When being sent on a mission, Steven happens upon Cora, an enemy Magic (with a capital M). There’s a lot of great political intrigue that I don’t have time to get into, but what really makes this book is the dynamic between Steven and Cora and the moralistic struggle it creates. Konstantina perfectly blends fantasy and romance in a way that will please any supernatural fans willing to give Wolf Heart a try!
I have to admit I'm very conflicted over WOLFHEART and it's probably closer to a 2.5 but I don't generally rank on half stars. There were some great things about the book but in a lot of ways it just wasn't to my personal preference which is why I rated it like I did.
Overall, I loved the idea behind the book and especially liked that the werewolf packs are matriarchal. The problems that arise from Steven's sudden development of Alpha powers present a unique story line as he's in constant conflict with his sister, Jen, who rules the Anders' land. In a lot of ways this felt more like a fantasy than a romance, with its intricate world and warring groups. There was a lot of detail but I did find myself wondering if this was set in a modern time that was affected by the war or if it was from the past. The story was told from the 3rd person omniscient as if someone not connected was telling a story and knew everything going on for each character. I've never really read a book with this POV so it took some adjusting but it was nice to see into the thoughts of so many characters. Of course, that also means that I never felt like we got really deep into Steven or Cora's thoughts and emotions; there was a slight detachment. However, Konstantina P. does a pretty good job of expressing character emotion through actions and words.
I really liked Cora's character who is struggling with her witch abilities which have set her apart from not only her own people but also among the werewolf packs. The wolves hate Magics so they are naturally distrustful of Cora and she starts out as their prisoner. Over time she proves her innocence, her compassion, and her selflessness as she saves the lives of many of the wolves. To some extent, Cora is almost too perfect and forgiving; I wanted her to stay angry with Jen and Steven for what they put her through because good lord, it's pretty awful. Cora's life has been anything but simple or caring but she never gives up on the goodness of other people.
My biggest issue was with Steven who I never really warmed up to as a hero. He starts out cold and harsh with Cora but he also sees her as an enemy, so it's understandable. Over time, Steven finds he's attracted to Cora but the push and pull of his actions were too much for me. I tend to lean toward sweeter, nicer heroes and Steven was a mix of gentle and then aggressive and angry when he believes Cora has betrayed the wolves. He sleeps with her and then pushes her away over and over again. I know some readers like the redemption of a hero, so Steven might be perfect for others but it was just a pass for me.

In a time of war between Werewolves and humans with Magic can two people who are destined mates find a place with each other and their own kind? Steven is a Werewolf Prince, and Cora is a Magic Princess. They meet when Steven is sent by his Magic hating sister Jen to kidnap her to try and make her father end the war. Can Steven cope with the resulting events and accept that his home is with Cora and that this is real?
This was an interesting story that definitely had a good base with the battle between the wolves, the magic users, and the love dilemma merged into it. It was well written and I could understand the majority of it well. I did get a little lost in the occasional part of the story but it became clearer as I carried on reading. I have to say there were times I became quite irritated with Steven and just wanted to give him and damn good shake! A good story and definitely worth the read.
I was provided this book in exchange for an honest review.
WolfHeart by Konstantina P. is as a fantasy/romance novel where werewolves, “magics” and humans live together in a post-apocalyptic world. Here, kingdoms have taken the place of countries and society as the world once knew it has reverted back to the dark ages.
This story starts out strong, introducing the reader to Steven, a reluctant alpha and brother to the Queen. The Queen sends Steven on a mission to capture the Magic Princess, who is rumored to possess unimaginable powers; she is to be used as leverage in an ongoing peace treaty.
Little do the werewolves know that Cora, the Magic Princess has been wrongly imprisoned by her father who blames her for her mother’s death. Are the creatures who abruptly barge into her confinement her saviors or another form of captivity?
And so our story begins.
Overall, I like the idea of this story and the plot is pretty solid. My only real criticism is with the character development and that leads to making it difficult to connect to our main characters of Steven and Cora.
Steven I understand has a conflict, he shouldn’t be an alpha but due to taking the life of another alpha he has become one; this leads to conflict with his sister Jen, the packs true alpha and queen. I get that. Siblings will butt heads at the best of time, add in that they become competing alphas and well, they can become real....buttheads!
Cora on the other hand comes across to me as a confused young woman who pings off the walls emotionally. I rarely understood why she would go from one emotional extreme to another at the drop of the hat, often with little or no real provocation.
This young Magic Princess has been mistreated and held captive for years; not just by her own father but by Steven’s pack who captures her. She goes from mild, meek, and apparently despondent one moment to close to hysterically pissed off without warning...it just doesn’t make sense to me and doesn’t feel genuine when she does lash out. Rather than coming across as strong she comes across as...hmmmm....immature. I think that’s it, and that’s tough to overcome with a main character.
Steven’s outbursts of anger or resentment I can sometimes understand. He doesn’t like the fact that he is attracted to this “Magic”, so...he fights the attraction. Still, the outbursts from the characters when they happen don’t feel genuinely fueled by any event or emotion, leaving the outburst to feel....awkward, particularly within the relationship between Steven and Cora. To me, their relationship felt more dysfunctional than romantic and definitely needed more development.
Okay, now that the criticisms are out of the way I can talk about what I did like and that is this post-apocalyptic world that the author created. Granted, I would have liked more description of this world throughout the story but that’s just how I am. I love description so sue me.
Konstantina P., also did a good job with the mythology of the werewolves; no real curve balls are thrown there so it’s easy for the reader to accept these mythological creatures. Yet, there is just enough that is different, such as absorbing the powers of the werewolf Steven kills that results in his transitioning from Beta to Alpha. That was a nice change to throw in that was perfectly plausible.
The tertiary characters, Steven’s buddies, were also enjoyable. But, in saying this I have to also add that many times the relationship between Steven and his buds felt more developed than any of the other relationships Steven has. I honestly connected more with his buddies than I did with anyone else. They made the story enjoyable due to their dialogue and camaraderie.
So, would I recommend this book? Sure. It’s a quick read and I think it’s a good effort from this author as a debut novel. While there is certainly room to grow for this author (who doesn’t have room to grow?), I am confident each novel will get better with time. Pick this one up for the story itself, not so much for the romance quotient and let me know what you think as well.
I wanted to like this book more than I did. I really enjoyed the world building and the clash between the werewolves and the magics. I loved the werewolf pack bond concept and reading the interactions between the members of Steven's pack. The "Found Family" trope is one of my favourites.
I enjoyed Cora, the Magic Princess, as a character. Her continued goodness despite all the horrors she experienced in her past made her a compelling character to root for. However, I had a hard time rooting for the romance between her and Steven. Steven was one of my least favourite characters, unfortunately. I tried to like him, but I just couldn't. He was too moody for my liking.
The third-person POV got a bit confusing at times. I would have preferred to see inside the heads of only a few of the characters, rather than all of them. Also, for most of the story, I felt I was being "told" rather than "shown", which is the main reason behind my rating.
I loved the story... fast paced and really good world-building. The female protagonist, Cora, was so nicely developed. I haven't read such a good character arc in years.
