Soulless is book one in the Detyen Warriors series by Kate Rudolph & Starr Huntress. There's action, suspense, and intense moments.
Sierra is resourceful and intelligent. She accepts that Raze is her mate without much fuss.
Raze is a Detyen who has given up his soul, is cold, and sees the world only in black and white.
It’s a fated-mate storyline. Raze and Sierra were a great couple. You can’t help but feel for Raze and his situation, in being forced to give up his soul, in order to live and fight for his society. It was so interesting watching him come back to life.
The author does a great job peeking your interest into the Detyen race. What we learn about their home world and that they must renounce their souls to survive, if they haven’t found their soul mate, leading to the soulless aspect in the story.
I wasn’t happy with the secondary characters aka the other woman who criticized the Detyen Warriors. I get having bad things happen to you, but that is no excuse to act in a bad way.
The story does end with a clear setup for book 2, so it’s kinda a cliffhanger leaving use with a few unanswered questions, but the romance is concluded.
All and all Soulless was nice introduction to the series and it peeked my interest into the Detyen race though it’s not that memorable of a story. I may or may not continue the Detyen Warriors series.
Very good! The trope is similar to other SF romances, but novel at the same time!
The idea of people who must renounce their souls in order to survive, though similar to Vulcan culture from Star Treck, is new in the SF Romancelandia.
Sierra, the heroine, is as I like them: intelligent and resourceful, without a TSTL moments, ready to accept the fact that Raze is her mate without too much fuss.
Raze was good too, though I was slightly (very slightly!) irked by his insistence that what is happening to him is impossible! If you fell something, how can you deny the existance of feeling? But, apart from that, he was a good hero material.
The back story was very interesting and I would like to know more, so I'll be reading the next book! :)
4 1/2 stars, I really enjoyed this book, the premise was great and I loved the characters, the heroine was smart and didn't have tstl moments and didn't fight the mating. The hero was possessive and I loved seeing him fall in love and react to the impossible. I'm very interested in the books to come and seeing what happens next.
. Another Mars needs Women book. This time it's the Detyen warriors with their colourful skins and black/red eyes. Mostly though they are like humans. So that was a little disappointing. Even their culture seems the same except for the true mates thing and dying at 30 if you don't find yours. SO I'm gonna say 3 stars even though I quite enjoyed it. I just would have liked a little more imagination. Raze is over 30 but has survived by becoming soulless. He thinks it's literal, but that seems crazy so who knows? Basically he has no emotions. The author did put some thought into how that would effect someones life, which helped give the story a bit more depth. Sierra is a spy sent to rescue some kidnapped Earth women from alien slavers. They meet and aren't sure what to think of each other. No insta love, but they have almost a magnetic pull to each other. Raze is confused by his starting to feel emotions again. I loved that he was protective but also didn't discount her skills. I also liked that the characters didn't fall into the two groups of either friends or enemies. There were characters that weren't enemies but didn't really get along either.
It's short and sweet. A nice story arc. Not too much foreshadowing of future couples. And, it ends on an action packed cliffhanger. (soft cliffhanger... maybe a steep hill?).
Safety is good
audio readers are Jennifer Gill (meh) and Ian Gordan (great)

A spy from 🌎Earth, Sierra💃🔫🔪, and her two friends, have also been sent to the same planet🌍. Raze👹🔪🔫 and Sierra's trails cross and they realize they are both after The same thing. They also realize they are forever mates, even though Raze👹 is never supposed to feel any emotions.
Interesting and well written Adult Sci-fi book📕. It does end in sort of a cliffhanger. But there are sequels!
Cliffhanger!! Wow! She did it to me. I wasn't excepting a cliffhanger. This was a great listen. It had everything I was looking for in a good audible. It took sometime to get use to the narration but once I did it flowed from there.
I enjoyed the story I just wish it didn't have a cliffhanger.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review
This book goes from an explosive beginning to an explosive ending. The authors managed to keep the excitement going even while keeping us guessing along the way. When we get to the HEA, I was turning the pages hoping there was more, but that will be in the next book. This book has trapped me into a series that I don’t want to escape from. I can’t wait to read the next book!
Here is a spoiler for the entire book. Only continue reading if you aren't easily offended by the opinions of a reader and don't mind knowing the entire storyline.
You have been warned.
This book is silly, it's like:
*huge alien man grunts.*
We are giant warriors with no souls, no fears, no emotions to get in the way in the heat of battle. We are an invincible army of three. No one could ever defeat us.
*his two companions get kidnapped with zero effort and no battle at all*
I must find my companions and free them. But this woman is hot and makes my pee pee feel funny. I only know war, and battle, not pee pee tingles! I am distracted! But she will help me free my companions.
*frees companions*
We must away, to do our mission- oh we did it already? Well, we must return so our mission will be complete, but this female who makes my pee pee feel funny needs our help to get other females out of here. We should help.
*other alien men*
Okay.
*non battle ensues where all the women get away without mishap but the invincible alien warriors with superior skills are stranded in space.*
Maybe we will die here.
*women come to the rescue*
We will not die here.
*alien man who likes human woman knocks on her door*
We are mates, would you like to touch my alien body? It has squares on it. Because... I have a clan but I don't really have a clan because all my people are dead, but they aren't- only most of them are dead... I mean, there's only like, a few million of us left. But none of us have mates. We are all going to die at thirty. Do you want me to put my pee pee in you?
*mad passionate sex*
I like sex.
*female*
Sex is the best and we are mates now.
*other aliens*
Someone on this ship is a spy, the ship is broken, here are the coordinates to our secret home base so we can turn in our friend who is finally happy and has emotions now.
*flies to secret base filled with cold, ruthless warriors who have never been defeated in battle*
Oh no, the spy sent our secret base coordinates to the bad guys!
*three bad guys show up and take out an entire planet of undefeatable warriors*
Females, we are undefeatable, get in this ship and we will protect you.
»You are my denya. It shouldn't be possible, but you are my miracle.«

❥ 𝑺𝒊𝒆𝒓𝒓𝒂 I really liked her character. She‘s confident and knows what she wants.
❥ 𝑹𝒂𝒛𝒆 He is a soulless alien warrior and his life turned upside down as he met Sierra.
✥ 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒐𝒐𝒌 I got this book on stuff your kindle day and it was an enjoyable read. The story was entertaining and there was the right amount of action and lovestory. The end feels a bit rushed but it was okay, because it sets the foundation for the next book in this series. Sierra and Raze were both likeable characters and the tension was good. I liked the idea with the soulless warriors and fated mates thing.
This book had an awesome plot and it was beautifully written. The characters development is coherent and the 🌶️ it's 10/10. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 it was because it has a cliffhanger ending.
Very well written. The pacing was spot on. The story moved so well and something was always happening. No filler moments to slog through. This book is proof that you don't need big ideas and twists to write a good story. Simple sci-fi romance but very well done.
I received this wonderful audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
Let me by first stating that I have never listened or read anything by Kate Rudolph and Starr Huntress. I am a huge fan of Sci-Fi romance and I figured that I should just go ahead and drive right into these two works. It also helped that Ian Gordon and Jennifer Gill who narrator basically ALL of one of my favorite authors, M.K. Eidem's, books. This audiobook already had twenty million pluses with it.
When I got into the story I realized that it is a good book in its own right as well. I loved Raze and I loved Sierra. The fact that this book had two very strong main characters made me happy. Even though the main characters where great the secondary characters were not. I disliked most of the women in this story. I know as a woman that sounds bad but they just criticized and made Sierra and Raze and all of the Detyen Warriors fell like they were useless.
I understand that some of the women had horrible things happen to them however the way they acted was not needed. Also Sierra's work colleagues were just horrid. I know that they had a mission however it seems as though they dislike Sierra and I want to know why? It just seems as though there is something underlying between the three women.
Even though the description says that this can be read as a standalone do not believe it!! IT IS NOT A STANDALONE. IT WILL NEVER BE A STANDALONE. PLEASE DO NOT DO IT TO YOURSELF IF YOU JUST WANT A ONE BOOK OFF. IT ENDS WITH A CLEAR SETUP FOR A BOOK 2!!!
I really enjoyed this novel. The premise of an alien without a soul really intrigued me and I was interested to see how this story would play out. Kate Rudolph built an odd, yet wildly fascinating character in Raze NaFeen. He was very cold...and saw the world only in black and white. If the rule wasn't imprinted in his mind, he didn't express enough emotions to care. Being introduced to him in the beginning was interesting. Mainly because you can't really warm up to him, yet you feel a deep sadness for his situation....being forced to give up in soul in order to live and fight for the Detyen society. It was heartbreaking! As the story progressed, I really enjoyed watching him slowly come back to life. It just made me smile!
Sierra Alvarez was your typical every day human with a cause. She was tough, she was strong, and she wanted to make a difference. She never wanted to hear excuses, she just wanted a resolution. Most times, her resolutions avoided violence...she wanted the solution with where no one got hurt. I love how she accepted her relationship with Raze. She was scared but she knew deep down there was nothing they couldn't face together. And near the end, she had to fight for their relationship which was really great to see. She knew what she wanted, knew what was right...and there was nothing that was going to stop her.
Compared to other sci-fi novels I've read, this seems to have a stronger world building. The insta-romance wasn't always the central focus, which I kind of enjoyed. The people were focused on the rescue mission and that took up a majority of the novel. Watching both main characters change as they worked together (especially Raze) was really fun. I don't really want to say the novel ends on a cliff hanger, but it does leave a few unanswered questions. The romance is concluded...they're out of danger, but what next? I'm assuming that will all be answered in the next novel!
Brace yourselves: those heartbreakingly romantic underdog Detyens are fighting back! Not content to search the universe to find their denyas, only to die at thirty if they fail, these smart and sexy aliens have formed a paramilitary band of warriors out to avenge the Detyen diaspora. They've also uncovered a previously hidden (for good reason!) way to extend the lifespan of unmated Detyens. Raze NaFeen is one of those warriors who has elected to sacrifice his heart and soul in order to gain time to find and punish the destroyers of Detya. His mission leads him to the same cess-pool of a moon where human intelligence operative Sierra and her all-female team have come to recon a band of alien slavers who abduct human women for the sex trade. When their missions collide, something unheard of flares between Sierra and Raze, something that jeopardizes both their careers and their lives, something impossible in a human and a soulless Detyen. It can't be the denya bond! Or can it? One good turn, one act of compassion, one courageous decision to trust - and everything comes apart as quid pro quo leads to fire-fight after spaceship malfunction after betrayal in this action-packed tale of forbidden steamy romance and love-induced miracles. Kate Rudolph has taken her saga of Detyen deliverance up to new levels of angst and excitement, created more characters with depths yet to be plumbed, and added an over-arching plot line that (I hope) signals a new series: Detyen Warriors. Sign me up! I am voluntarily reviewing an ARC, because excellence deserves recognition.
New strand of Detyen hotties to lust after! After their world was obliterated not every Detyen was happy to sit back and settle on a new planet. Some took up posts on a secret installation were they train to prevent the same enemy they have faced coming back and finishing the job they started.
But these warriors have a mighty expensive way to get out from the ticking time bomb they become when they don't find their mate, they give up their soul. They essentially become android like, whilst still retaining their own bodies. Everything is strategic, emotionless decision based actions. But on mission to recover date from a ship lost during the initial destruction of their planet, Raze and his team-mates come across some pirates and a detachment of human spies!
Sierra was saved from the wastelands by her soldier father and will be forever grateful. But he does not get to look down on her choice of career. She is a damn good recon officer (spy). But on her latest mission she forges an unlikely alliance with a giant green, but undeniably sexy, alien. They have a chance to save some trafficked females and they take it!
But this good turn gets them into hot water of kind or another. Raze also thinks he is about to go over the edge into madness. Well, that or he has met his denya? A human denya?
Great new turn in the story! Loves meeting these new, "Data" like Detyens. Raze was a great lead and Sierra was just the right mix of feisty and vulnerable!
I really enjoyed this sci-fi romance. Detyen men and women must find their soul mate or die at a young age. Their planet was destroyed so few have a chance. Now, humans are starting to be identified as mates. Raze meets Sierra and realizes the choice he made may have damned their love. He is willing to do anything for a chance with his mate.
I found the storyline really interesting and liked that author lets both of them get a chance to tell the story. It really helped me connect with the characters. Sierra has a hard job as a spy and faces great danger. Raze has made so many sacrifices. You really want them to get a chance to make it all work.
A good space adventure with sadly, rather humanoid aliens - I prefer alien aliens. The H traded his soul for life, many of his race have also had to trade their souls, because if they can't find their mates by the time they are 30, they die. The human h is obviously his mate; it takes everyone a while to believe it. There are bad guys, space ships, interesting world setting, and some suitably silly characters. Pretty good.
Raze has sacrificed his heart and soul to extend his life. Sierra is a spy on a mission. When their paths cross the truth is undeniable. This is a fast-paced read with loads of drama and suspense. I really liked both Raze and Sierra. The story really draws you in with great characters, plenty of emotion and steamy chemistry. I really liked it.
Love Ms. Rudolph's books. She writes comes up with the most intriguing, amazing characters and worlds. I loved this story. I'm not sure over all if a blue guy would turn me on but I have to say I would be willing to test drive this one. lol
I did like it, but it was too short, and really has no ending, so I took off 2 stars just for that. I almost gave it a two star, but since I did enjoy the writing and story annnnd I got the second book,I gave it 3 stars. I really have an issue with the length, whats up with all the shorter books? I feel like it's shrinkflation with a book. I also felt like nothing really happened. Its not a bad book, so maybe give it a go.
Extremely entertaining, captivating and interesting sexy read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong, intriguing characters. I want to read more from this author.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a lot of world building. A little spice. Audio was ok. Great characters. Happy for now ending - I assume the overall story will continue in the next books. 3rd person, dual pov, single narrator.
TW: Genocide Slavery Sexual Content Violence 3⭐️ I had a pretty decent time with this book. It wasn’t flawless but the flaws were overlookable for me because it was full of plot and adventure. Followed a decent beginning and middle but the end is what lost me because it felt like it was a sudden ending. It felt like it ended on a cliffhanger but book 2 is about the MMCs brother. Overall, I recommend this book to start and I will be reading book 2 out of curiosity.
I liked the twist on the fated mates trope with the MMC having sacrificed his soul/ability to feel since he did not find his fated mate by 30. Watching him come back to himself and feel again added another dimension to the story.
I enjoyed this quick read -- alien romance is one of my favorite genres. I cared about the characters and wanted them to succeed. The Soulless provide an interesting twist -- the ultimate male avoiding his feelings. I will definitely read more of this series!
She's an intelligence agent from Earth in a mission when she meets her mate a soulless Detyen warrior. By meeting her he finds his soul mate and feels emotion again in a new way.
Enjoyed this story of Raze and Sierra. They meet on a planet and both believe they are pirates, mistakenly, before realising they’re both after the same thing. A fast moving, we’ll paced book. Thoroughly enjoyable.
