3.5 stars. The series still has a strong Eve and Roarke vibe but it's settling into its own groove. Good cast of characters. Nick's political career, the speed it especially, seems unlikely but it's interesting.
It really bothered me every time Sam or Nick refers to Scotty as “the boy”. I don’t know of any parent that does that. The repetition of previously known parts of the storyline I.e. her dad getting shot, her ex etc seems unnecessary by book 6. I mean does it have to be mentioned that Archeletta was her only in office fling? Does it move the story forward...no. The books are already dated I.e. in the Kavanaugh story...this man would have security cameras around his home, as would his entire neighborhood. Interestingly enough, when she was miscarrying I remember thinking of Meredith Grey and Christina in the operating room when Meredith had miscarried. The. There was a bunch of references to Defiance, OH and I’m with Olivia Pope. Finally, Sam admits she watches Grey’s Anatomy cementing this author’s Shonda Rimes infatuation. It’s difficult to read a book where you love the central male character and just tolerate the female but that’s where I am in this series. It’s equally difficult for me to read a female character that really has very little respect for other women, has an unhealthy obsession with her dad, keeps her mother at a distance, has no female friends and tells a relative stranger I’m going to call you Tinker Bell because the woman is short. And please...nepotism is alive and well in this series...good old uncle Joe and the rest of the brass almost defer to her..sometime I find myself agreeing with Stahl.
I am addicted to this series. Each book concept is unique and thrilling. The three books in this set deserved 4 stars but I gave it three stars due to the repetitive information that kept coming up in the books. I can tell this was done to get readers who start in the middle to get caught up with the storyline. I found it annoying, nevertheless I recommend this book for fans who like a good mystery with romance added.
This has to be the best if not one of the best box sets ever. So much action and love in one box set! Let's not forget all the laughing with Sam and Freddie as well as Sam and Nick! All the one line jokes or phrases throughout kept the series fun. Love this series.
Nick and Sam's love story continues as Sam is embroiled in one high profile murder case after another. Trying to juggle careers and romance, finding the time to be together is difficult. Nick's career is on an ever increasing upward trajectory and is aided by Sam's notoriety. They are the power couple of Washington. It's not all roses though. They have their share of heartaches, danger and family drama but their all encompassing love is the glue that holds it altogether.
I love this series. It reminds me of Nora Roberts Eve and Roarke, because Sam is just as snarky as Eve but both of them have a hidden heart of gold. I find myself laughing out loud at some of the situations Sam and Nick get into. It is very sexy though so if you don’t like graphic sex beware.
Can't wait to continue the saga of Sam and Nick. Each book is better than the last. Buying the books in three volumes is very convenient. End one book and immediately start on the next.
These are the best books. I love Sam and Nick and now they have added Scotty. Shelby keeps them all on track as Sam is a police lieutenant and Nick is the senator from Virginia. I love all the exploits of their family.
What an amazing set of books! I absolutely LOVE Sam, Nick, Scotty and all of their family and friends. Reviews are made on the individual books but know you won't regret reading this volume!
