Norelia, Imperial heir and zealous second-in-command of the Endless Army, is cornered by a wager against her father, the Emperor. The stakes? To marry the winner of the next Summer Games in order to ensure the continuation of the Imperial line.
Confident she will win the Games and the wager, she is devastated when a mysterious contender named Reoth defeats her and claims not only the title of Champion, but claims Norelia as well. A misplaced note reveals Reoth and her father placed wagers on Reoth's ability to "tame" her, proving it was all a game after all.
When her father is killed in a surprise invasion, the Empire stands on the brink of war and Norelia is thrust into the center of it with Reoth, a man she'd sooner kill than trust. As Reoth admits knowledge regarding who is behind this invasion, Norelia must determine where his true allegiance lies before the Empire, and her heart, are destroyed forever.
This took me longer to read than I'd like only due to personal reasons. I've been very distracted lately and held off reading it because I wanted to give it the full attention it deserves. A decision I didn't regret because I was captivated, This is one of those stay-up-late to read 'one more chapter' then falling asleep 5 or 6 chapters later after begrudgingly putting it down because your eyes are dry from staying open without blinking. Seriously. When I finished reading Devil's Bitch last night I was plagued by dreams filled with battle glory and lust, something I've missed lately. Norelia is incredibly strong to a fault and while I did hope at one stage that she'd end up with Baruk, a friend from her childhood, her chemistry with Reoth is undeniable. That he finally dropped the need to train her warmed me up to him even more. He's a great character, don't get me wrong, but I was very open to Norelia's hatred towards him. This book could have been a series; it had that epic feel about it that a well-written series has, and I'd have loved the chance to get to know Reoth, Norelia and Baruk more, seen more of a stand off between the two men trying to win the Devil's Bitch's heart. Even Otheus was a character I could have happily read more about. However it is fantastic for a stand-alone. It's rich in plot and the characters grow; they are deeper than they first appear. All in all this is just a fantastic book and I hope it takes Delena far. Recommend to those who enjoy strong women, graphic battles and hot lust with a non-sappy sense of romance. Norelia and Reoth are more realistic in their relationship and romance and that is one of the things that make Devil's Bitch such a pleasure to read.
Norelia is one tough cookie but of course so is Reoth. This was a very well written fantasy. I enjoyed the action and sword play.
What I liked about this was how the author really let you get to know Norelia throughout the book. You find out a lot more of her past towards the end. As far as Reoth we don’t know much about him for most of the book but when it is all revealed it definitely fit. The main character, Norelia, goes through many phases in this story. First she is Dominion Commander then she is forced to just be Imperial Princess then she becomes Imperial Empress and Dominion General later. She has many shoes to fill and doesn’t always make the best decisions. Reoth is there to help her see her mistakes even though she did not want to. I also liked that in the story that the characters were presented with flaws and not perfect.
The only thing I did not like as much was I wish we were given a little more at the end of the story as far as once they got back from the battle. Did she have any problems when she got back etc. The ending was good the way it was written but I just find myself wondering after reading it how it went for them once they got back and if she ended up building a temple for father and the General? You know it was a good story though if it sticks with you and you think about it after you have read it wondering what happens next.
I would recommend this to anyone who likes action, swordplay and a great hero and heroine who can’t get enough of each other even when they feel like they hate each other. These two were definitely a perfect match.
*I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.*
If your like me, when you see a book title and it has a swear word in it, you can't help but to wonder what the book is about!! That is the case with me and this book, Devil's Bitch, I saw the title and I wanted to read it! And when I was selected to review this book, I was crazy excited.
But onto the story now, this book started out with a huge BANG and that continued throughout the whole course of the book. There was excitement, drama, murder, sex. Everything that a person could want its in this book, at least in my opinion. Norelia's character is a strong woman, and I'm not just talking about having thighs of steel (which she does have in case you were wondering!). She has survived more in her life than most people will ever have to do.
Reoth's character was just strange to me, throughout the whole book I couldn't really get a read on him, but I think that added to the mystic of him. He had his funny parts and the parts where I was just like “wtf” (I think I had the look on my face while reading it). It was amazing to watch as he tried his best to tame the Devil's Bitch. That made the book a worth while read for me!
There is a lot of action during the course of this book, and while usually I don't like books that are that action packed, this one ended up working out for me. The only thing that bugged me about this book was it seemed like even with all the action, the ending left me wanting more. It felt like the ending didn't have as much as the rest of the book. Even with that though, I would still recommend this book to friends!
