I found this a very useful introduction to collage. Claudine Hellmuth explains very clearly several basic techniques for making collages (including peeling paper, peeling paint, textured paint) and image transfers, as well as using wax as a collage medium. The instructions are very well illustrated and there are several tutorials that easily take a beginner from the start to the end of projects to create some fun and whimsical collages. Hellmuth also guides readers in composition and gives ideas for personalizing their art.

But non-beginners are unlikely to learn much from the book and its scope is somewhat limited. Most of the ideas are for creating collages using old photos and found items (there is a chapter on techniques to give objects an vintage look). Hellmuth's collage style is distinctive but does not vary much; I like their simplicity but they don't have much depth. I'd advice any prospective buyer to take a look at the book before buying to make sure they like her style and wouldn't mind getting a "sameness" feeling while reading the book.

You know those arts and crafts books that show you cool projects but leave you with absolutely no idea how to re-create the pictures? This is NOT one of those. Claudine Hellmuth gives very specific, step-by-step instructions as to how to get the same results she does. And with her quirky, whimsical style, you'll want to try everything in this book! A must-have for collage artists, scrapbookers, and paper crafters.

Just like the first Collage Discovery Workshop book this one was just as amazing. It has great ideas, good techniques, good instructions, good photographs and is just in general offer clear, helpful, practical advice for collage artists. It is a book I go to again and again.

This is a cool book by Claudine Hellmuth. It's a great resource for aspiring and seasoned collage artists. There's many techniques she uses in her book. I am moat inspired by her resources page and her website:
http://www.collageartist.com/links.htm. According to her website, this is Hellmuth's second book and it sold over 25,000 copies.

More good techniques, although I am not crazy about the new style the author is using. This is a really good, helpful book for anyone who loves collage

Lots of good ideas to enrich and deepen backgrounds - don't worry that you will just copy Claudine's distinctive work. I've used her techniques in very different pieces,

This is well designed with easy to apply ideas. I've shared some tips in it with my collage class, and may use some projects in upcoming workshops.

I liked her first Collage Discovery Workshop better. This one is a little repetitive, gives some techniques, but really is a focus for her projects.
