The thing about this book that makes it an amazing read is the undercurrent of things going on. This author set this entire book up so well. Continuing to give us tidbits of information just enough to tease you. There is plenty going on and you have to wonder exactly what the end game is. Before you reach the end everyone is suspect, betrayal is heavy in the air along with jealousy and rivalries. There is loads of back door dealings and manipulation and the war is waged. Unclear visions and misleading actions and conversations cause lots of misdirection and this author handles it with an expertise that is crazy. When you do reach the end you will find that nothing is what it seems, and marvel at how all the pieces fall together as the points of view converge and everything is revealed.
This author blows me away with her ability to add twist and turns and in this case gives us stories from different people that converge into one and when it does the fall out will be epic. Great story in this the second book of the series and I loved every bit of it.

So, this is a long slow burn of a book, so much so that it took a year for me to read. Not because I wasn't enjoying it, but because it was easy to put down - and pick up again. For most of the book, the tension is a quite a low level despite the coming storm, and the sections and chapters are too short to sustain momentum. The characters are interesting, but a lot happens "off-screen" between visits, because really this is an Epic trilogy compressed into one (long) volume. There's very little filler, but not much to sink your teeth into either.
What it does do well is tell an Epic story of two disparate cultures and four compelling characters. The worldbuilding is interesting and a bit different, the plot is intricately woven, and the character journeys satisfying. It's quite a low key, grounded epic, with no Red Weddings or magical cataclysms - and for about 85% it's quite a slow burn, as I said. It feels more like a weekly TV show than a blockbuster movie, if you see what I mean. But I definitely enjoyed it and I'm glad I read it...even if it took me a while.

This book was a wonderful blend of so many elements - magic, fantasy, adventure, etc. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it to other fantasy fans. One of my biggest issues when reading a new book is the character and story world development, so I pay particular attention to those details. This story did NOT disappoint! The characters are very well developed and totally believable, the story world is vast and detailed. I could believe in this book, the characters and the peripherals, which is going to make me keep reading Aderyn Wood's stories as long as they keep being written. I highly recommend this book!

Glorious!
Aderyn Woods 2nd "stand alone" novel in The Secret Chronicles of Lost Magic" series is even better than the first. The lead characters all have depth and feeling, and the relationships between them are handled masterfully. Plenty of intrigue, suspense and magic. Finally, the end brings full closure for all characters and their dilemas. Just masterful. I couldn't put it down. I highly recomend Dragonshade.

Really loved this. Have read The Raven, which was good but the author steps up another notch with Dragonshade. Great characters, was curious/interested/invested in all of them, and they are all really varied. The world-building is fascinating, I'll admit at times I lost track of some areas, but it didn't stop me ploughing through the book. Love how this author can capture the tastes and smells and sounds of a place, along with the visual side of things. Was sad to come to the end!

I really loved the story but it was a slow start lol it took me 6 months because the beginning is so slow but once things picked up I finished it in 3 days. I have lots of questions regarding Yana's heritage. I'm sure they are Iluna's descendants but no confirmation yet and I really wondered if Reyna was really Iluna but alas not answered. I can't wait for the next book.

A great read with all the elements of a tragic tale in the tradition of our legends of the past. I recommend it to all who enjoy fantasy and retellig of myths and legends.

Once again another brilliant book by Aderyn. Left wanting more at the end of the book .
