Besides my own interests, I read whatever my wife tells me to read-- she's a voracious reader and has wide-ranging tastes as my reviews show (she also always has the TV remote and she's always right about what to watch). I read a lot of nonfiction, mostly for research. Some of my favorite books are Lonesome Dove, Mystic River, LOTR, and an array of science fiction classics including the Foundation series. Our house is covered with books, although I finally broke down and started reading eBooks, strangely enough on my iPhone. Since I carry it pretty much everywhere, it means I always have an entire library of books with me.

I'm a West Point graduate, former Green Beret and a New York Times Bestselling Author. I've sold over five million books. My newest series begins with New York Minute, a thriller set in New York City in 1977.

I love using history and science in my books. My Area 51 series pretty much had me rewriting our entire history of civilization.

My latest work is now out and seems to be well received. Currently working on Area 51: Invasion to follow it on 14 July. Nothing but good times ahead.
It's the 10th book in the Area 51 series:

At the edge of the Solar System, beyond the Heliosphere, a massive warship comes out of Faster Than Light Transit. It is the Ancient Enemy spoken of in myths and legends.

Do we deserve a Second Chance?

Area 51: Redemption is a continuation of the series regarding alien direction and population on earth and how their presence affected the human race through the millennia, leaving only the most subtle of reminders of their possible existence on the planet. In this, the tenth of the series, Mike Turcotte, is back as the ex-Special Forces officer who helped free the earth of the Airlia while winning WWIII. But Turcotte kept a secret--far worse than that of the Airlia domination.

The CE's Thoughts:
A premise that alien cultures have existed on earth for thousands of years is the core of this book. Earth is an outpost for a number of species who are here to assist and take advantage of humans. Major Mike Turcotte, Yakov co-pilot, Quinn, Kincaid, and Leahy are a team whose mission is to save the world from aliens called Airlia. The antagonist is a lady named Mrs. Parrish who is seeking immortality and to regenerate the love of her life, her husband. In addition to her ulterior motive, she is hoping to translocate a seed group of humans to help save the human race. She has, however, no respect for the individual life nor for the people who assist her. Gradually, our species recognized the alien threat and decided to fight.

Overall the book is an interesting study of the ability of humans to continue as a species. Great job of writing and very thought provoking. I highly recommend this book and its’ message. 5 stars C.E. Williams

This is the first of the Area 51 books I've read and knew the CE would enjoy as well. So, no, I didn't find each of the characters in this book fully fleshed. They have been before. But it doesn't seem to matter--I knew what kind of people (or not) they were by the role they played in laying out this well-crafted plot on it's way to conclusion with book 11--Invasion. The narrative easily pulls you in so you don't miss a beat.

We are (re)introduced to emotive alien, Nyx, an astrobiologist of Mars, who tries valiantly to own a dog--okay--it's a nanotech dog. And Maria (Mrs. Parrish's assistant) has George, faithful fur child. There are the survivors of the Mars mission: Yakov (the Russian), Quinn, Kincaid, and Leahy of the previous series. Leahy is taking on a new and more formidable role.

I love the way Mayer can take a legend or myth like Atlantis and find such a perfectly plausible explanation that makes faultless sense. And maybe that's why these books grab your imagination and turn the book into truth--Mayer truth--a new look into human origins.

The opening grabs your attention immediately. Dialogue is intelligent and believable. There are venues to monitor and many facts and figures, fascinating photos and diagrams all well-above my pay grade to digest. Nikola Tesla!! Forget Edison. The aliens Nosferatu and his beloved, the romance equation; his tender consideration for her becomes alarming when they are described a little more "deeply." What a range of characters you can have when not all are human!

I won this ebook in a Goodreads Giveaway, as mentioned before, and was thrilled. Would I recommend Area 51: Redemption even coming in at the tenth of the series? A solid Roger That! Then you'll be looking forward to the release of Invasion as much as I. 4.5 stars V Williams

When I found out Bob Mayer was writing more books I went back and read the previous nine again. Unfortunately, that highlighted just how bad this new book was. The high quality of the books from Legend and previous just doesn't exist in Redemption.

He tried making it seem like this was on a short timeline but obviously the technology and the dates he starts throwing into this new book just to show it's new and current doesn't fit in well. This book's cover would be better off if it had the meme of Steve Buscemi where he is carrying a skateboard and saying, "How do you do fellow kids?"

This felt like Disney trying to squeeze as much out of Star Wars as possible or X-Files coming back years later terribly. I know he's done several Area 51 spinoffs but this felt like he needed some money so he hurriedly penned a book. It has none of the feel of the previous books that made me excited to see what's next. Unfortunately, I had gambled on his previous quality and bought Invasion , Interstellar, and Earth Abides. I hope they are better and it isn't a waste like this one.

The suspense is palpible! Had some great moments. Despite F=mv still making Newton roll over in his grave. For those who are interested in Tesla past or present, this is an interesting read. Considering Bob Mayers last book in the series was published in 2004. The character development between Nosferatu and his gf started to make the last two books feel justified. The Swarm coming into the picture also forced some much needed change in the dynamics of other characters. So, I'm looking forward to starting the next one right away!

There is a however hanging over this review. I don't think I've mentioned it yet, so we'll have to see what the plot brings!

Mesmerizing! Another artistic TRIUMPH!

Just couldn't put it down, an addictive series that just keeps getting better! Each book has well described characters with fascinating plots and subplots, building up to the finale - the next book -( which I will start tomorrow as it's 3am !) Mayer is masterful, I love his work! Start with book one, read in order of you will miss out on too much .

ROLLER COASTER!!!

Pure like whole way through. This story draws you in and doesn't let go. Just finished this instalment and I'm just about to start the next, 'Invasion'. Trepidation abounds because it looks as if many main characters may have to give their lives for humanity to survive.
Who would like this? Hmm... I would suggest almost anyone but especially sci-fi enthusiasts, military minded groups and people who just enjoy a series of novels with an engaging story.

Redemption is the tenth book in the Area 51 series. You can read this as a standalone. The storyline makes more sense if you have read the previous books, but the author explains enough of what went on before that you don't have to have read them. There is violence. The Area 51 series has been a favorite of mine and am glad to have this new installment to read.

Good military Sci-fi. This novel is the first book of this series I've read, so I'll go back and read the others, but if you like any of the author's works, you'll like this one too. Dynamic characters, fast-paced action, and well-developed plots, not to mention the historical tidbits added throughout. One of my top ten favorite contemporary authors, hands down.

Great series!

I love this series! Great story telling, fun plots, great use of history. The only issue I had, which was very frustrating was that there were a ton of typos in this book. Whoever edited it did a very poor job. I really hope the next book doesn't have this same issue!

Love it

Love the "never give up" attitude of the main characters, learning a little more about Tesla and the alien story. I find myself cheering for the Undead Couple and the line surviving alien.

Interesting series and easy read

While I enjoyed the read. And it's probably accurate to what would occur. There are events that just seen to happen so the cast of main characters doesn't grow.

Back to 5 stars!

Redemption picks the main story line back up, and dives in head first. An excellent resumption of our heroes (well, most of them) exploits!

Good Continuation of a great series

I started reading this series when it first released in the late 90s. A lot has happened with our understanding of the world. I am still placed on the edge of my seat as i was with book one.
