What a pleasant surprise to discover an historical action adventure tale with the strong women heroes we need in the present day! Ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I'm hooked for the next one. I did recognize the some of the characters from the classic In Desert and Wilderness, which I read as a child, and it was nice to see Stas and Nell having some new adventures. But I really liked the new characters this author has created. A Pakistani-British girl whose lethal weapon is her headscarf and a shape-shifter who can turn into a cat. And they find a really unusual way to rob a bank. Definitely check it out.
I received the Keepers of the Stone trilogy as a Goodreads giveaway. It was fast-paced interesting fantasy series with lots of unique twists. I enjoyed it, I felt it was targeted to a young adult audience. It was a clean read, in that it had no excessive violence, strong language, or sexual overtones. I wish more background on the characters was provided, I was confused as to their history together. Although the books are set in the 1800's the characters make references and use expressions that that were not used for at least a hundred years in the future, no mention of time-travel. I would like to learn more about Liza, my favorite character, a felinoid. I would highly recommend this series to anyone who likes a solid clean fantasy.
The Outcasts is the first installment from the Keepers of the Stone series. I thought it was a great beginning to the series. This historical is full of action, adventure and intrigue. I love these fun characters. The book ends with quite a cliffhanger, making me look forward to what will happen next in the second book, Exile. The Outcasts is definitely a must read and I recommend it to those who love the fantasy genre. I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
