“I’m Cricket Wilburn. You’re charmed, I’m sure,” she says, and, yes, I am charmed. Hook, line, and sinker.

We meet in a stank-filled West Virginia honky-tonk. Cricket quickly wows me with her beauty and bitch slapping skills. I immediately wow her with my big dick and ability to use it.

But fate threatens to keep us apart.

Can a sweet-talking biker like me win the daughter of a junkyard dog like Angus Hayes? Or will Cricket bitch slap our chances at building a happily ever after?

Bitch Slap is the second book in the White Horse series. Containing sexual content, violent situations, and extreme profanity, this book is only appropriate for adult readers age 18+.

My first Bijou book was Damaged and the Beast back in 2013 and since then I’ve been a huge fan. That’s not to say I’ve liked all her books because I haven’t but she’s one of the few authors I always check out.

Two of my absolute favourites are Junkyard Dog and Black Sheep so a book that combines the two was up at the top of my list.

Now it’s worth mentioning that Bijou’s books are an acquired taste. Several of my friends just don’t like them and complain that nothing ever happens. That’s true for the most part but these are character driven, it’s the characters their interactions and humour that make the books.
It seems you either love them or hate them and I for the most part love them.

While I enjoyed this book and every single characters in it I have to say it wasn’t (for me anyway) as good or unforgettable as Junkyard or Black.

Cricket is passing through West Virginia where she meets Poet. While the chemistry is definitely there Cricket leaves the next morning (unable to do the long distance relationship thing) returning home to White Horse Tennessee.

There’s so many brilliant lines in this book and I always tell myself to make a note as I’m reading but I never do. So these are a couple chosen at random.

“Have you tried oral?” she asks, snickering at her question. “Of course, with her peeing every five minutes, that might not be as fun as it used to be.”

“Should I get down on one knee?” I ask while nuzzling her throat.
“Do what you want, fucker. I am agreeable to whatever your heart desires,” she murmurs before adding, “Unless it involves fisting because that’s just not fucking happening.”
Studying her blissful brown eyes, I’m certain I look like a fool in love with all the smiling I’ve done today. Nevertheless, I say, “Today is not proposing day.”
“Is it because I mentioned fisting?”
“Mainly yes.”
“You have big hands,” she says and rests them on her belly. “A woman has her limits.”

“Don’t you think he’s a precious angel from above?”
“Very much so,” I say, embracing their crazy. “He’s a six-foot cherub with pinchable cheeks.”

It has to be said while I loved all the characters I found myself laughing at the thought of twelve year old six foot tall Cap constantly being described as a cherub.

Sometimes harsh, sometimes whacky, sometimes over the top. But mostly just hilarious.

I liked the idea behind the story and the family devotion of both main characters, their families were really crazy in a funny way. I loved the hero, he was really great. The heroine though was too much for me sometimes, I found her too crude for my liking. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the heck out of this book, it was something different, and I laughed quite a lot. I guess it is that kind of story you will either love or hate...

Small note: the mcs here are the children of the main characters in Junkyard Dog and the main characters in Black Sheep. Both families play a big role in this book, there is even a big meet together of these two families, and it was one of the best parts of the book imo. So maybe, I recommend to read them first. Anyway, even I haven't read Black Sheep first, and I could enjoy it nevertheless...

This book is different. The characters are quirky and their families are crazy and I really liked it. Poet and Cricket are both sweet and smitten with each other from their first meeting. They are both animal lovers too😍 I would love stories for Chipper and Cap!

Different, harsh, funny and even sweet!

Cool heroine. She was furthest away from doormat typical CR heroine!
Sharp, but cool!
"You’re making my girl dick so hard right now"

And he was a nice guy. Strong, funny, faithful and loyal.
I liked him a lot!
"Yes, I always expected to find my perfect woman, but never in a million fricking years, did I imagine she’d be anywhere as amazing as Cricket."

I think this one isn’t for me at all. I am suffering here – literally – for two reasons. Firstly, I dislike the heroine and secondly, the plot line of the book is one of my pet peeves, unfortunately.

I loved the twins in Book 1 and this second book is about Candy’s daughter Cricket, whom I liked in the previous book.

Cricket has a one-night stand in a state where she was staying for a night while travelling home back from a visit to a friend. The guy she hooked up with doesn’t want to let her go immediately in the morning but she says she needs to go home. She gives him his number, though, and takes his, saying: “This way, if I’m ever in this part of Honky-tonk Hell again, I can hit you up and see if you want to pound my p*ssy again.” Well, Book 1 had two main characters that were out of the ordinary but I still liked them. Here, even this quotation above is too much for me – Cricket’s vulgar words made me cringe and I immediately disliked her. The way she pulled him out of the bar to her hotel the previous night was no good, either. She was too forward for my taste.

I wonder if my feelings would change if I continued to read it, I don’t know, but all day I was able to read a few pages, stop an hour, a few pages more and stop another hour and obviously, this will become one hell of a torture if I force myself any more. When it doesn’t appeal to you, no need to suffer through it all, right?

Anyways, a few months later, she realizes she is pregnant and she texts him. He comes to the state she lives in and now they are going to try and see if they can be a real couple.

HOW BORING IS THAT!!!??

Where is the thrill of falling in love in this case?

Give me a couple with an attraction, then give me some good banter between them, a good push and pull would do, too.
Then, I would like to read about an unforgettable first kiss.
Then a passionate first sex...
Then them dating...
And if they have to marry in the end, well, they can, no problem.
And if they want to be parents after a few years of enjoying their relationship as a couple, well, that’s fine too, but I’d rather see that they plan to be parents first, then become parents.

BUT, if you give me a meaningless one-night stand and then an accidental pregnancy that brings them together after a few months, nope, reading it would be a torture for me.

This is how their one-night stand begins...

Studying her face, I suddenly worry she’s too drunk to agree to f*cking. I stand straight and frown for a minute as my buzzed brain tries to connect dots.
“What’s wrong?” she asks, sitting up and instantly stroking my c*ck.
“You’re drunk. Like maybe too drunk.”
Cricket nods and reaches for the side table. Never letting go of my c*ck, she uses her free hand to scribble something on paper. She then hands the hotel pad to me.
It says, ‘I, Cricket Wilburn, of sound mind and horny body, fully agree to the p*ssy pounding promised to me by Poet Something or Other.’ Now, will you strap on a condom and let your c*ck get to pounding?”
“Yes, ma’am.”

I don't know if it is supposed to be funny or sexy but it sounds like a careless drunken mistake to me!

So, believe me, I tried to read it and enjoy it. I really did. I tried for 50 pages, for the sake of the series I want to read and complete but this book is making me hate the whole series.

And, I am out, calling quits!

Maybe you should ignore me, that’s my pet peeve, not something that bothers many people. Give it a chance if you like things this way, parents first, couple later. I just don’t... can’t.. won’t. whatever... Brain-freeze moment for me...

I am now scared to start Book 3 or 4. Let me go find something else to bring me back the joy the first book brought me.

This is the second book in the series and features Candy’s daughter Cricket from Junkyard Dog. I loved book one but this one was just ok and unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to its predecessor maybe I built it up a bit too much in my mind and was then underwhelmed. Still, I did like parts of it and it was well written but it also had a much more new-adult feel to it which I wasn’t expecting.

As with all of this series, it’s character-driven and I do think that’s a huge selling point in its favour but personally, I wasn’t a fan of some of the internal dynamics between Poet and Cricket. I was expecting to adore Cricket but she just didn’t stack up against all of my previous anticipation and Poet just came across as so passive and a bit whipped if I’m honest. It also felt slightly juvenile at times and Cricket and Poet came across as quite young (there twenty-one and twenty-five).

I also didn’t find all of the bitchy family dynamics that entertaining either it came across like it was trying to be overly alternative and cute but it just wasn’t. Though there were a few lol moments but mostly it was just irritating and Cricket for me came across as a complete spoilt brat which I don’t think was the intention here.

I definitely appreciated getting more Hayes but Poet and Cricket just didn’t have the same charisma as him and Candy did. It was well written and I do like the unique voice of this author but found this a tad disappointing and slightly boring. I’d say you could probably read this as a stand-alone but would definitely get more out of it as read as part of the series just with all of those internal dynamics in play here.

What in the hillbilly hell is this? I hadn't planned to try any more of this author's work immediately but I unfortunately ignored my instincts and started this one immediately after book 1. It was utterly ridiculous and not even the unexpected baby (a trope I love)could save this one for me.

Over the top.
Anyone with a little hillbilly blood will love it.
Hated the title.
Angus Hayes and Candy from Junkyard Dog steal the show.
Some touching moments amid the outrageousness.
Disjointed at times, but gotta love the familial devotion.
Dogs with personality.

I really really wanted to love this but.. this was just silly, some OTT antics by kinda immature people and definitely YA/NA which I don’t generally like.

what I liked:

I liked that this was a second generation coupledom from Junkyard Dog and Rawkfist MC.

This was kinda sweet and safe. There’s no ow/om after they first hookup even though they didn’t see each other again for a few months.

Conflict is how they merge their lifestyles / families coz both have very strong family ties.

Cricket Wilburn is a woman who wont take crap from anyone, her step dad Angus Hayes taught her everything he knows about intimidating others. Stopping for a night in Rawkfist territory she hooks up with Poet for one night and one night only. Cricket doesn't do relationships but their is something about Poet that she likes. A surprise pregnancy has Cricket seeking out Poet again and he continues to surprise her. Poet doesn't plan on letting Cricket go now he just needs to convince her of that.

Loved it. I am thrilled that Cricket and Poet got their own story and you get all of your favorite characters in this book. Plenty of Angus and I thought the interactions with Justice's Grandpa were hilarious. Cant wait for the next book in this series.

BIJOU? where have you been all my life??

Geez Louis! This was one of the most original, whacky, fun, witty story I've read this year. Never read banter like this. I found myself LOL at 3AM to some of the shit the author had her characters saying.

All characters well fleshed out, especially the heroine, who certifiably nuts... But in a really fun way. They both have insane family connections and watching both families come together was both hilarious and heart-warming. Raunchy and no holds barred dialogue that was refreshing to read. Original characters and storyline... Loved it YA'LL!!!! drawling***

I know I don't ofter write reviews where I give insight into the plot. I figured you can read the blurb to get the gist. All I'm useful for is telling you if it sucked or if it didn't. I walked into this blind and walked out with a belly ache from laughing and a smile from the bow tied HEA.

Wish I had some moonshine!

I loved this book, it was different form a lot of Bijou Hunter books in many ways and that was great because we get to see new things from this author while she shows us she can write many different types of books once again, while adding the funny big time might I add. I’ve said it before an author who can write funny in their romance is special and I can only thing of one other author off the top of my head that can do funny besides Bijou Hunter.

While on her way home from visiting her cousin Cricket stops in a bar and meets Poet. Their unplanned meeting sparks and attraction neither could have guesses and neither wants to deny but after the best night of their loves both knows living in two different states means they can’t be together. And then something neither of them would have guessed happens and they are brought back together.

Both Cricket and Poet grew up in very different lives and getting together isn’t easy. Neither Cricket nor Poet can stand the thought of not being with the other, and both are willing to do what they have to to get their own happy ending. Even if it means corralling two crazy families and making a life of their own.

I flew through this book and I mean that. I didn’t want to put it down, I was so wrapped up in this book I was surprised when I had almost finished it because I was so caught up in this story. Poet was a great hero, he was sweet and protective and all in once he see’s Cricket. Cricket was hilarious and funny and tough but she also was kind and strong. I love how we get to see two children from previous series get their own book and fall in love and that also means bonus we get to see tons of former characters in this book as well.

This book was so much fun to read, I loved both Cricket and Poet and the crazy lives they both lived. It was fun to see them make a even crazier life together. With all Bijou Hunter books we get great epilogues, which she has spoiled us with since the very beginning. This story was a great was to bring so many character’s together and I love that we got to see previous children all grown up making their own way for themselves. I’ll say what I say after every Bijou Hunter book: I can’t wait to see what she has for us next. It’s nice having those authors you know you can count on to bring you a great book that you get wrapped up in and fall in lobe with and Bijou Hunter is that author for me.

*thank you Bijou Hunter for this beta book

This is about Cricket and her one night stand, Poet, and the circumstance forcing them to become more. We get to watch their developing relationship and the merging of their two families. That’s it really. Nothing much happens. Everything is smooth sailing, no conflict, no drama, a little dull. It is pretty funny with everyone busting each other’s balls all the time , but the OTT humor got old. I can only take a little of that. Hayes and Candace are still my favorite.

Banter At It’s Best

This is the second book in the series and is set approximately 12 years after the first book. The book can stand alone, but you won’t get the humour as much if you don’t read the first book.

Cricket’s step-dad runs the town of White Horse with an iron fist wrapped around a tire-iron. He is ruthless, vicious and doesn’t tolerate many people other than his family. Cricket may as well have been spliced from his genes despite not sharing any. She’s been helping run White Horse for a few years now, despite only being 21. On her way back from visiting her cousin she stops for the night in West Virginia, where she meets Poet, the son of the local MC’s president.

Poet is gorgeous, laid back and efficiently ruthless when necessary. He has a huge family who may just be slightly more weird than Cricket’s. When he sets eyes on Cricket he is knocked sideways. They spend the night together but know they’ll never see each other again because they live 5 hours apart. They do exchange numbers but never expect to use them, until Cricket gets a positive pregnancy test result.

This is a story of passion, affection and general weirdness. Cricket is definitely odd to say the least and her family isn’t any better. Their love language revolves around the ‘f’ word and imaginative insults. Poet loves Cricket’s weirdness but thinks his family’s different ‘f’ word is better.

Cricket and Poet start from a place of lust and affection and try to build a relationship that’s given a leg up because of the pregnancy. It’s not an easy road for them, but it’s hilarious for us readers. This book is vastly entertaining, though not particularly challenging. It’s perfect for when you want to recharge your brain and let it rest awhile, plus you’ll laugh a lot.

My favorite Bijou Hunter book is Junkyard Dog by Bijou Hunter followed by Black Sheep (Rawkfist MC #1) by Bijou Hunter . ISYN, Bitch Slap is about their kids getting together!!!! Gah. Cricket and Poet have a one night stand while she's traveling through West Virginia after visiting her cousin. Even though they hit it off big time, Cricket makes it clear she's not able to do a long distance relationship. A few months and a positive pregnancy test later, their lives are changed forever.

If you've never read Bijou Hunter before, you need to have a certain type of humor. She's crude, blunt, and jokes like a thirteen year old boy. If this isn't your cuppa do not proceed. I laughed my ass off. The snark was woven throughout. The cast of characters all showed up. Angus was awesome as usual, the word "queef" was used about eighty times, and moonshine consumption occurred. For the full effect I'd recommend reading Black Sheep and Junkyard Dog first. This can be read as a stand alone, there just won't be those golden back stories.

This was just what I expected. Lots of LOL moments. It's not a long book and Cricket is hilarious. I loved the meeting between Cricket's and Poet's families. I hope Chipper and Cap get books as well. I'd love for this series to be produced in audio.

While the first book was clever and original, this one can't maintain the momentum. While Cricket is pretty crazy, Poet is almost normal. The two families get along much too easily. There is much less sex and violence in this story as well.

I'm not sure whether I'll read the next one...

I received a copy of this book from the author for a honest review.

It's always good to be back in the world of Bijou Hunter character's and this time we meet up with Cricket from Junkyard Dog and Poet (Felix) from Black Sheep, who are now grown up. Anyone who is fan of Bijou knows what they getting into with her characters, and here we get to see the inter mixing of two funny/odd family dynamics. Overall a good book, I did want more romance between Cricket and Poet, more build up, more to the story, otherwise this was a fun visit into two hilarious families and how they manage to work out their differences.

I enjoyed the other stories before this one with these characters, so when I heard that this was Cricket and Poet’s story, I was curious and wanted to read it. This book was not for me. I found myself more annoyed with the characters than actually enjoying the story. I just did not connect with this book. My opinion is just that, my opinion, and might not be yours.

Brilliant!

Bijou always hits the right spot. She is flawless and brilliant when writing, and developing her characters. Her settings and scenes, show her her vivid imagination and drive to produce the best story!
Cricket has grown into a beautiful, funny, quirky woman. Being raised by Hayes and Candy, she takes no crap off of anyone. She is fiercely independent, and has no filter. She is super close to her twin, and baby brother, and love animals.
When Cricket stops at an out of town bar on her way home, she meets Poet. He tries to pick her up, but she turns him down. Undeterred, he watches her. This bar is a tough one and she gorgeous, Poet knows there will be trouble. When trouble arises, Poet earns her respect.
Poet is an Enforcer for his MC. Naturally, he is tough and does not tolerate men who hurt children, women, or animals. When he sees Cricket in the bar, he thinks she is the most powerful, beautiful woman he has ever seen. He knows, without a doubt, Cricket will be his. He will do whatever it takes to make that happen. I recommend this book!!!

I Received an ARC for a honest review from the author.

What can I say Bijou Hunter does it again !!! I loved reading Cricket story and loved having Hayes and Candy back in the books they are so so funny. She is a sassy mouth Heroine who really has no filter it has a lot of LOL moments that you just cant stop laughing. You can read this book as a stand-alone but I would totally recommend you read the previous books so you get an idea of all the characters. Poet is an alpha strong male with a soft side that really is a perfect match for cricket and with the surprise they have on the way poet is so sweet but rough if that makes any sense perfect for her. There are no major twists or drama the only problem is distance and how they make it together but the journey getting there is hilarious you wont be able to put this book down when you start.

I have read all her books and she has a way to suck you in to the story she writes beautifully so your imagination kicks in picturing the story unfolding right before the pages.

5* can not give it any less brilliant cant wait for more.

OMG!!! I absolutely loved this book!
Bijou Hunter hit a grand slam out of the park with Cricket’s story.
I loved Poet. And finding out he’s little Felix?? Amazeballs! Very few authors can intertwine different series as well as Bijou Hunter can. It’s only one small reason why I love her books so much.

Cricket and Poet were perfect for each other. Cricket is a LOT to handle and Poet just rolls with the slaps. The dialogue in Bijou’s books is spot on. The characters speak and think and feel exactly like real people I’d love to meet.

I was so happy to see Chipper, Cap, Candy, Hayes and the Rawkfist crew. Justice, Journey and Poppy are the perfect family for Cricket to marry into. Loved it! So good! I also loved the mention of Chevelle and seeing not-so-little-anymore Keanu. Perfection!

I can’t wait to read Chipper’s story. And Cap’s. I wonder who their forevers will be? So excited.

** I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Bitch Slap can be read as a standalone, however, if you've read Rawkfist #1, Junkyard Dog, or any of the Serrated Brotherhood #1-3 books, you'll be pleasantly surprised to reconnect with some colorful endearing characters again as you discover Poet and Cricket's blossoming relationship.
This is a near-instalove-at-first-sight story, with Bijou's classic brand of fast, sarcastic, sophisticatedly-unsophisticated banter. For new readers to Bijou's writing, when you relax on a weekend with your wine and e-reader...be lazily prepared to think fast too because her steamy romances require a bit focus to enjoy the conversations between characters. But this is also why I keep coming back to her books; I get good laughs and feel really joyful as if I, too, wish I had a couple of steady lush friends and badass family members to watch over me and enthusiastically invade my private life as I navigate a new relationship.

This story is about Cricket and Poet their tale starts as a one nightstand then fast forwards to 3 months or so, where Cricket finds herself pregnant. Watching the pair trying to make a go of their relationship whilst still trying to be independent was very interesting and wondering how the pair were going to pull it off. They had very demanding jobs in the different home towns. Where people depended on them, But I’m left with one question, who the hell is “Garbage”. Let’s hope we find out.

I loved seeing many past characters making an appearance throughout the story and once again chuckling at the sarcasm that comes out of Augus and Candy (junkyard dog) wonderful to see the 3 crazy sisters from Rawkfist series.

I’m really looking forward to “cherubs” and Chippers books, once again this my opinion and I’d like to thank Ms Hunter for letting me read her work.

A Bucket Full of Crazy!

Things I did while reading this book:
1) Literally started bouncing in my seat when I realized that Poet is Boy Scout's son (and Justice's stepson) from Black Sheep!
2) LOL'd gleefully when I realized that Bijou Hunter had now culminated two of my favorite female characters (Candy & Justice) into one big bucket full of crazy. I'm so happy that Cricket and Poet have been matched up together!
3) Gasped out loud and said "uhh, noooooo" to an empty room when I realized I was 86% into Bitch Slap and the crazy entertainment was about to end! I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
