This is going to be a bit tricky because this book disappointed on a lot of fronts but the more I thought about it the more I realized that the problem was with my expectations not the book itself.
First the technicals. As a writer myself I'm growing more and more sensitive to typos and grammar errors. This book had very few. Fewer than some mainstream published novels in fact. I counted maybe 10 mistyped words and nothing particularly distracting.
As to my expectations I admit I thought this was erotica. It really isn't. There's sex but its all boring vanilla stuff that isn't even graphic. All it really exists to show is that the couple is good together. This is also not a character driven narrative. I certainly remember who the characters are (mostly, the band members sort of blend) but I don't feel like you really get to know them. Part of it is likely due to the third person perspective but I felt like I was detatched, seeing these people from afar.
As to what the story REALLY is, however, that is simpler. I'd compare it to the first episode of Law and Order. Its a crime thriller with interesting characters who may recur and may not (hard to tell) who you'd want to learn more about. The plot was a tad predictable which made it drag in the middle (like a movie about a car crash you know its coming so get on the road already) but it was handled competently. I'd have liked a little more of a twist but thats mostly so I could talk more about the plot without giving spoilers. Its a crazed fan story done well. That's all I can really say.
This story doesn't shock or surprise. It's not too spicy but its not tame about its subject either. As a standalone it wouldn't be very good but as an intro to a series it checks all the boxes. Not groundbreaking but satisfying. Certainly something I'd want to see more of.
Diego Ortega. “Guitar God”. One of the perques of being a talented and famous rock guitarist is that many women want him. One of the curses of being a talented and famous rock guitarist is that many women want him …
Lindy Hudis, who addressed the challenges of young women attempting to make it in Hollywood in “City of Toys”, addresses rock superstardom in “Guitar God”, the first in the “Boys in the Band” series. Miss Hudis manages to combine aspects of the various musicians from Nalini Singh’s “Rock Kiss” series with Stephen King’s Annie Wilkes from “Misery”.
Definitely worth a read. I’m curious where she’s going to take the series from here.
RATING: 4 ½ stars, rounded down to 4 stars where ½ stars are not permitted.
Diego has been in the rock star business a long time. He's been there and done that. He's had all the quickies with fans but now he wants more. He's found it. Susan gets him for him, not his band star status. At a huge fan festival in Las Vegas, the rest of the guys are up to their usual antics. He's with Susan and getting ready for the performance. Little does he know that a dangerous and troubled fan is on her way to join with him as soulmates. What's going to happen if she sees him with Susan? The story is mixed with love and danger, police, and civilians, good guys and bad, some action and steam. A satisfying short read. Reviewed for Words Turn Me On
A quick easy read about a rock god and one crazy deranged fan and her obsessed, rage filled vendetta that will change all of their fates...
This was a quick read that unfortunately didn’t quite hit the spot for me. The potential is definitely there, but for me personally I would have loved it to be longer and the story and characters were given time to develop.
I would recommend to readers who are looking for a quick easy read.
