I honestly do not have much to say about this one. It was a cute read without a lot of angst or drama. The writing was great. The pace (for the most part) was good. The plot was humorous and sweet. It had some excellent secondary characters (although, I am not 100% sure I care to read Chase's book as I am a little over the whole "player who sleeps with everything" type of hero). Both of the main characters were very likable, and the ending was a sweet HFN.
My only issue with it was the big drama near the end and how it was resolved. I was annoyed beyond belief that Alex went hunting down Emerson, and beyond annoyed that SHE felt the need to apologize for his a$$hole behavior. She didn't do ANYTHING wrong. Not to mention it took him TWO WEEKS to get his head out of his a$$ and Alex took him back with ZERO grovel after he basically implied she was a whore!! Yea, no, that whole debacle fell short for me which in turn had me lowering my rating. C'est la vie...

Definitely my new favorite of Katie McCoy’s books!
I’m not just anxious for this new series, but super anxious…super-duper anxious…DYING for the next book level of anxious! Rascal is classic Katie McCoy romance…feel-good love stories with humor, drama, and sizzling chemistry!
Rascal wastes no time diving right into its gut-busting degree of hilarity and unforgettable first encounters. Let’s face it…we females at one point in our lives have endured the awkward circumstances that surrounds the purchasing of feminine products. You’d think we’d accept that yes, women get periods. But it doesn’t make the situation less uncomfortable. But throw in a smokin’-hot guy, a clueless store clerk, and an intercom system, and it turns the embarrassment status to critical! See where I’m going here?...
I could go on and on about how well written, thoroughly engaging, and utterly SWOONY this story is, but I’m just going to say READ IT. You’ll love it. The humor, the romance, the character development, the heartbreak….all of it. But what I loved most about this book is the author’s portrayal of a headstrong, driven, and inspiring woman that goes after what she wants. And a man that supports her dreams, no matter the cost.

3.5: This was super cute and a quick read. Emerson and Alex meet for the first time when he’s in line behind her at the drug store. They then get locked in the bank’s ATM vestibule together. They share a kiss and then go their separate ways only to find out that Emerson is opening a bar below Alex’s apartment.
Emerson is swoon worthy new bar owner and Alex is working to be an associate at a law firm. He’s trying to get out of the type of life she’s trying to get into. Together they’ll have to figure out a balance.
There are 5 friends who own the bar (Rascals) together so I’m assuming they will all have a story. Will definitely check out the next book.
Rating of 3.5 instead of 4 due to some editing issues.

Ahhh I'm over here swooning wishing there was more pages! I need more Emerson in my life! Rascal was such a great read with some pretty amazing characters. Alex is trying to get the associate position at work, working long hours and putting her social life on hold. A hilarious meeting with Emerson shows a serious amount of sparks and chemistry. Emerson and his friends are opening up a bar, which happens to be directly under Alex's apartment. Loud noises and late nights up working don't mix. After fighting with herself she finally gives Emerson a chance!
Rascal was a seriously cute and funny read! The mishaps along with the romance added so much to the story. Alex and Emerson have a great romance and some great friends. They run into a few problems but settle them and continue on being the wonderful couple they are! I loved Rascal and all the characters and I'm looking forward to more from them guys at Rascal with some sneak peeks at Alex and Emerson!

Alex is a junior associate at a top Chicago law firm and is working her way to become a permanent associate. She has absolutely no time for distractions, especially the ones that come in the form of hot guys. And there is an exceptionally hot guy opening a bar with his hot friends directly below her apartment. What happens when the one guy she keeps bumping into becomes someone she can’t stay away from?
Rascal was a much needed escape from the angsty books I’ve recently read. Hilarious, sweet, and lighthearted, it’s a great mix of humor and heart and I couldn’t keep the goofy grin of my face as I turned the pages. The writing was storyline was entertaining and the characters were endearing. I adored Alex and loved her drive to prove herself. She worked hard to accomplish her dreams and was committed to her work but I loved that she finally took time for herself and went after Emerson.
Emerson was such a sweet guy with a good head on his shoulders. He went after what he wanted and I loved his ambition. I hated that he didn’t have the support of some of the most important people I his life and I wanted to scream at them. He deserved so much more than what was being pushed at him.
I really enjoyed getting to know Alex and Emerson and seeing them interact. Their initial meeting was hilarious and I could totally imagine it and all its awkwardness. As they kept bumping into each other they realized they have a connection and I could feel it. I loved guessing when they would see each other again and I enjoyed the progression of their relationship. I liked that the fake date jump started more and loved how realistically their feelings developed.
Alex and Emerson are so good together. Fun, flirty banter kept the mood light and intense chemistry lit the pages on fire. There’s a little bit of heartache thrown into the mix at well placed parts that kept me flipping pages but I was so glad it wasn’t the “rip out my heart” kind of pain.
I also loved getting little glimpses into the lives of the other four guys and cannot wait to read their books. Overall, Rascal was a great start to the new Rascals series. From the humor to the romance and everything in between, this rom com is sure to put a smile on your face!

Rascal was just the light-hearted and feel-good romantic comedy that I needed. It’s a fast paced story, which definitely sets the tone for the book because as much as Emerson Hayes and Alex Mathis don’t feel like they have time for a relationship, the fact that sparks fly during their first awkward and hysterical interaction and then turn into flames that continue to burn brightly despite their respective needs to focus on their careers, everything seems to occur in warped speed and that works for me because sometimes unnecessary drama is added and it doesn’t fit the reality of the book. So, while things definitely occur quickly, it just illustrates the kind of instant chemistry that Emerson and Alex have, and it points to how good these two can be together as their time together extends and their relationship grows.
Both Emerson and Alex are extremely likable characters and their exchanges with one another are humorous, sweet, and flirty. They both have goals they want to achieve and once they decide to give into what they feel for one another, they support each other and never stop believing that they can achieve their individual dreams while still being together.
The secondary characters add so much to the storyline, especially Emerson’s partners. Emerson and Alex . They are fresh out of the gate with funny, embarrassing moments . Alex is an associate at a law firm and is waiting not so patiently for the results of her bar exam. She is living in a quiet apartment until they move in . A bar has taken up residence downstairs and the sexy hot arrogant man running it is trying her patience . She also can't keep him and his swoon worthy abs out of her thoughts . Emerson is trying to get his business off the ground when he runs smack dab into Alex. It is a funny romantic journey with these two crazy kids !!!

Alex and Emerson have nothing and everything to lose by falling deep, but somethings are worth risking it all. Alex learned very young that fairy tales don't always play out with an HEA. Her mother struggled after her father left to start a bright shiny family elsewhere. But that's okay, she has her friends and is working herself to the bone to establish her career, so finding a man to ‘complete’ her was never a life goal. She should have know that fate is a fickle lady and would throw a wrench into her plans. When she finds herself living smack dab above the oh so drool worthy Emerson Hayes she is slightly blessed and cursed. Especially when she gets the cockamie idea to fake date him in order to appease her bosses. Emerson has spent 7 years working and building his dream for Rascals and now that it’s opening day he is bound and determined to prove it’s worth. He spent years listening to his parents warped sense of advice on his choices and life, but he finally is going to follow his happiness. He never expected the bar to not only bring him self satisfaction, but also an undeniable angel that he cannot ignore. Alex is smart, sexy, and single which is how he finds himself falling helplessly. But with work pressures, parent pressures, and life pressures beating down will he let the best thing ever happened to him slip away.

Rascal is the first book in this series and can be read as a standalone. It is setting us up for the series though by introducing us to the five friends who are opening this bar. Emerson and Alex are good characters who draw you in and keep you interested in their story, plus they were easy to like.
Emerson comes from a very wealthy, well known family, but we don’t know that immediately. He is a little tough to like at first, but he easily starts to grow on you once you learn his background. He is opening a bar with five friends from college. This is their vision and dream and it is finally coming to fruition.
Alex is a lawyer waiting on her bar results. She is working for a law firm trying to prove herself so they will choose her for the associate position. She grew up in a single parent home, poor and scraping by. All she wants is to be successful enough to make it and to finally pay her Mom back for all she did for her, plus to not struggle financially the rest of her life. She is too busy proving herself to this firm to focus on anything but work, but her new neighbors are making it pretty difficult.
These two start out like oil and water, but quickly begin to change how they feel about relationships and each other. This story has humor, love, sexy time and an overall good storyline. This is a quick enjoyable read with good characters. Overall ⭐⭐⭐

My first book by the author and while I wasn't blown away, I'm definitely going to pick up more of her books.
Alex meets the hottest man she's ever seen while she's shopping for pads and tampons. Not ideal. Not long after that she's trapped with him in an ATM vestibule and receives the best kiss of her life.
One she can't stop thinking about and doesn't have to forget about because her hottie turns out to be the co-owner of the new bar that's opening right under her studio apartment.
Emerson, one of Chicago's wealthiest men's son, is determined to make it on his own. He's happy how his and his friend's brand new bar, Rascals is coming together and while Alex could be a distraction, they soon learn that the other's just as focused on their career. They fall into an easy, uncomplicated relationship that quickly escalates, but Emerson's controlling dad is there to shake things up.
It was a cute story, I like the characters, the chemistry they had and while it may have been a little predictable, it was also sweet. Liked it a lot, but I felt like it didn't bring anything new to the table.
I have a feeling there's something there between Dante and Hayley, now I'm really curious about their story!

Rascal by Katie McCoy is the adorable book in her new Rascals series. Rascals aptly describes the five friends who have opened a neighborhood pub, also named Rascals. If this first book is any indication, the series is going to be fantastically fun.
Rascal features soon-to-be lawyer Alex and Emerson, a would be trust fund “kid” looking to make a living on his own. These two come from opposite ends of the socio-economic ladder, and they come together in an unlikely but hilarious way. Their common values and obvious attraction keeps them together.
Rascal is a quick paced, easy read. It is mostly light-hearted and fun. The little conflict comes from parent and co-worker antagonists, and it is easily resolved even though it takes the hero and heroine too long to realize that minor grievances come with every relationship.
I enjoyed the dynamics between the main characters, their family, and friends. Rascal is a quick, fun escape from reality with an enjoyable HFN ending.

This was a fast and super sweet and funny read. I caught myself laughing throughout the book.
I loved Emerson and Alex.
Alex is trying to get the associate position at work, there are 3 people vying got the position, which means no time for love or romance.
Emerson and his college friends are opening up a bar which just so happens to be directly under Alex's apartment.
The first meet for these two was priceless, I literally busted up laughing. From the Grocery Store overhead for a price check on the heavy flo / super absorbent products to the sharing of snacks, and that super hot kiss..
I would def recommend this book. I cant wait for the rest of the guys to get there book..

So id give this a 3.5 star read. Cute. Hott sexy scenes. Short lived angst. Only gripe is so she lives in an apartment that is over a bar. A bar that is 2 weeks from opening night and she is JUST now being bothered by the construction? 🤔 That doesn't really add up or make sense but whatever. Overall worth the read. Off to read about mysterious Dante and Hayley!

We get the gist of who the characters are; Alex the girl who grew up poor and who’s life is run on winning a permanent position with the law firm she works at, she has no time for anything more, including relationships.
Emerson, he grew up in a rich family that was stifling, and he wants nothing to do with it. He and four of his friends are opening a bar. He is complete relationship material, but he has a chip on his shoulder thanks to his dad’s belittlement.
They have a meet cute in an awkward drug store encounter, and then a locked in together scenario. Little do either realize that they are closer to each other than they know. Alex has rented an apartment above Emerson’s bar, Rascals. She complains about the noise, he kisses her and waa lah, they start dating.
I just wish there was a little more to make me believe that they were the ‘perfect couple’, that they had an insta-love connection. Because I did not see it, nor feel it.

One, this book took place in Chicago and I absolutely loved it. The mentioned of the Cubs was everything. Two Emerson and Alex story was beyond phenomenal. I couldn't get enough of them. This story had me smiling throughout the whole book!

What a crazy small world!

Fast paced plot, not much drama these people are adults - YEAH! Sweet sex, hard sex, sex. Characters are relatable and likable! Anxious for the other guy's books.

I felt so nostalgic reading this one bc KM was one of the first-ever romance authors that got me into the genre all those years ago- so it felt very full circle to reread this book.

I came into this expecting not to like it that much (bc trust me, my tastes have changed, where I tend to not reread books out of the fear of not liking them as much), but it was acc really nice-
I'm not much of a rom-com person anymore, so I didn't necessarily love this as much as I once did,- and it 100% needed more groveling IMO- but all in all, I enjoyed it.
