Death is coming for Lori Hardcastle.

Half-Succubus, half-Sídhe, Lori has been on the run since she was seventeen. Worried that her vengeful family will find her, she’s been hiding in the Borderlands, a magical plane nestled between the fae and human worlds. However, when her path crosses that of a dangerously sexy fullblooded fae, will she be able to survive the encounter?

Conrad Death is a cleaner (he doesn’t like the term ‘assassin’) for the fae White Queen. His latest mission: find the half-breed daughter of the Count of Tears. Easy. Except no one knows what she looks like, her real age, or even what name she uses. However, Conrad isn’t daunted by simple details – he’s finished every job he’s ever started. But when he meets a smoking hot Succubus in a Borderlands bar, his life is thrown into turmoil.

The first story in the Tangled Threads series is perfect for fans of Ilona Andrews, Seanan McGuire, and Sarah J Maas.

Amanda Pillar is addicted to writing. Not in the fun kind of way, more in the has-to-get-her-fix kind of way. But that's a good thing, right? It means she's busy working on her next book and has plans for many more to come, all with lots of snark. Because snark.

Amanda has had almost a dozen books published, alongside a variety of short stories, as well as solo and co-editing over half a dozen anthologies. People say it's because she's an 'over-achiever' but, in reality, Amanda doesn't understand the concept of 'relaxation'. (Please feel free to explain it to her. Use small words.) Compounding this issue, Amanda has commenced work on a PhD. Because she's crazy.

Oh, and in her day job, she's an archaeologist. (And no, she doesn't get chased around site by rogue boulders, thank the flying spaghetti monster. She doesn't even want to imagine the OH&S paperwork THAT would cause).

I love Amanda Pillar's work, her books are so much fun to read. So, when I saw she had a new release, I jumped on Rose Tears and read it in one sitting.

The whole thing takes place in the Borderlands, the realm between the world of the humans and that of the fae. The main protagonist, Lori is half-Sídhe and half-Succubus, and she has a unique skill set. On the run, after a magical spell goes bad, she lives in hiding in the borderlands, feeding once a month, and keeping her head down. When the time of the month presents itself, she finds herself a willing and able victim, and all manner of weird and wonderful fireworks are set alight.

Her victim? Conrad is hot. Conrad is strong. Conrad has been commissioned to kill the runaway half-breed.

The way this story unfolds is both gripping and hilarious. Lori and Conrad are incredible, and Lori's best friend is more than a little enigmatic.

The world building is fantastic, the characters are so easy to get behind, and the story? Its fast paced, it keeps you hooked, and you'll be desperate to know what comes next.

I received this book for free and voluntarily reviewed.

I loved this story, I couldn't put it down. The characters were great, they were fun and exciting to read about. The storyline really grabbed my attention and kept it throughout the book. I've read a few of Amanda Pillar's stories before but this one really stands out for me. Can't wait for the next book in this series.

This was a great start to the series! It went by so fast I couldn't believe it was already over. I am looking forward to reading the next in the series. Hopefully more from the same characters ;)

I was gifted an ARC in return of an honest review.
