Michael Foster has written a mesmerizing story of the unlikely juxtaposition of two misfits. Consider an Aspergers diagnosed, technological savant obsessed with pornography and a seventh grade-drop-out with brilliant mathematical skills who produces porn films. Foster manages to fully develop both characters as sympathetic individuals, with yearnings and dreams that make them easy for readers to understand and care about. Both have lived on the fringe their entire lives, and both long to be known and loved for who and what they are, not for the way the world views them. What outcome would you predict when their paths finally cross?
Foster’s profound understanding of the autistic spectrum and his portrayal of a person with Aspergers Syndrome reflect both his years as a classroom teacher of special needs children as well as his sensitivity and compassion as a person. He is a great storyteller, and I highly recommend this book.
