This book was recommended to me so I decided to give it a shot. I just did not love it. This book was very choppy and constantly switched between characters. Also, there were so many vague references to something that had happened in the past. We are never given the full details of the event. I just wasn't a huge fan. There was not any build to any sort of romance. It kind of just happened. It was odd.

***Up-dated comments after reading revised edition: Changes really helped add more depth and emotion to this short story. I especially liked how it's now easier to empathize with the heroine and the decisions she makes. I'm really impressed by how the author is able to convey so much with a few beautifully crafted sentences. Rating changed from 3 to 3.75 stars.

Original review: The author packs a lot into this short story, however I never got the emotional depth from the H/h that I needed to feel their connection. This author seems to have the talent, so I'm not sure why she's cheating the reader out of a longer, more detailed story. There is a hook to the story arc -who is the mother/father of baby Sophia - which is left unresolved. A few too many typo's for such a short story. I'll give book 2 a try.

I am really torn on the rating for this review there are so many good things in this story. For my taste it is too short and leaves a lot out that would truly make this a 5 star read. For a debut and new series it was a good read. So much is left out, so much left unsaid that really needed more explaining to really give you the understanding of their relationship and the buildup for a romance. Does this make it a bad read no it is wonderful and really held my attention. What this story is lacking is chemistry, the pull of attraction between Bridgette and Alexander. Oh it is there but we really never see it, when things go a little haywire you see the start but no depth only the outcome. There is not enough romance you really do not see what really pulled these two together from meeting to marriage.

What I likes was the secret baby, not knowing who is the mother adds to the mystery. For all five sisters to stick to not naming names really adds a lot to the story. The author writes it in a way that really pulls you in making you guess but I am pretty sure the outcome of who the mother isn’t. Charlotte adds a lot to this story but you do not get to see the full impact of her meddling. Again you see the start and finish but not what goes on in between that would really make this story more interesting. I really wanted to see how Alexander turned Bridgette mind to have faith in him and not in what she saw. Alexander’s mother is something else I expected her to be cold hearted but she really is a wonderful lady who really wants the best for her son. I thought more time was given to her than Bridgette and Alexander getting to know each other and making a relationship. Not saying that less should have been written I thought it was great and would have liked to know a little more about her. I just felt I know his mother and Bridgette more than I know of Alexander and their building up of their relationship. It is a clean read that is done in style that really makes it a delightful read.

I thought the author gave a great understand to the sisters, I would have liked to have know why they each thought they destroyed or let their father down. I would have liked to have known how he died. I thought the author really showed how hard it is to be a mail order bride the conflict in deciding and the worry of the turn out a woman has. I loved the meddling mother how she took over in some of the decisions. I enjoyed how Bridgette and Alexander thought about the whole mail order bride thing. I found so much in this story that was so interesting and was really pulled in. This could have easily been a 150 to 200 or more page story and have been a wonderful read with the authors writing style would have easily make it a 5 star read. I believe this is easily a 3.5 star read it kept my interest from start to finish with mystery, meddling and a woman who might just stand in Alexander and Bridgette way of finding true happiness. I really loved the twists and turns that really throws a tailspin on the story that leads to a few rough and rocky roads. I just need more information. I hope the author really does more building in the future stories they could really be outstanding reads. Bottom line I really enjoyed it just needs more romance and the conflict detailed out. I know others will feel as I do and really love what is given. I do look forward to seeing what the author does with the rest of this series.

Good, but clearly had no editor...

I enjoyed this book, as I am a huge fan of mail order bride stories. However, there was one thing that really stuck with me and dampened my enjoyment of the story: Ms. Nichols' constant reference to the titular character's male horse as a mare. Mares are female horses, and this is something that a quick internet search could have fixed. I was very confused for two pages of the book because of this. However, the rest of the story was well written and I hope things will improve in the next book.

What a great start to a series. You do not get the whole story in this first book, you get bits and pieces, which is fantastic! This creates some mystery in the book and I assume that will continue until the last book in the series. These are the types of books I love. A series, with some mystery that carries on through all the books, yet each book has its own story. I am looking forward to the next in the series.

Short and sweet

This book has a good story but I didnt feel any connection between Bridget and Alexander. It was to rushed and I would have liked to have seen more romance and time getting acquainted. The
mystery between the sisters is a good twist. I did love how she found a father figure in Mr. Turner. Very sweet ending. I will definately give the next book in the series a try.

Shorter than I prefer, but a good story. Some typos and a bit of trouble with prepositions, but not too distracting. Recommend.

I enjoyed this book. An interesting twist why sisters would become mail order brides. Fairly strong characters. Nicely written.

I think the bride in this one was bi-polar. No joke. You never knew if she was going to be laughing or in a dark mood. Story was ok but I was more interested in the relationship with the 5 sisters than with Bridget and her fiance.

A sweet mail-order bride with a little mystery!

This was a story of five sisters and a toddler that as a family held a secret that led to their father committing suicide and the sisters having to find a way to survive. The answer to their predicament was by becoming mail-order brides. Bridget was the first to be offered up as a mail-order bride. Bridget set off on her way to Alexander, her intended, not knowing what to expect. Alexander is taking on a mail-order bride to appease his mother. What he doesn’t expect is to find that he develops feelings for her and wants to protect her.

I thought the book was good however I feel it has even more potential. I will be reading more from this author and expect that I will see more growth in the writing and character development. The couple had chemistry however I would have liked to be able to feel more between them. I would have liked to see a little more romance between the couple. There is a mystery along with the toddler and while you might try to guess who the child’s mother is; you really can’t be sure as this is a guarded secret. I thought this added a good bit of intrigue to the story. I would have liked the story to be a bit longer, I felt that it was a tad too short. A little more romance and background could have added to a very well developed story. Overall, I enjoyed the book and thought it was a good short read.

This was the first book I have read by this author however it won’t be the last one I read. I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone looking for a historical sweet read about mail-order brides.

Montana Romance..

This story is about Bridgette, her new husband, Alexander, and his opinionated mother.

The story line is clean that covered the ups and downs of being a mail order bride, also, throw in a mystery baby, a few twists and the author has created a Well Written book .

Overall, a Good Story but it was not long enough, in my opinion, it ended almost as soon as it started.

However, I am interested in reading the rest of the series.

This is a novella and I wouldn't classify it as a full story. Also, the author contacted me and this is a free read. However, there is no influence on this review other than to ask to read it and review it.

The Plot was thought out and the characters are believable. The story did have gaps due to it length and I would have loved to know who had the baby out of wedlock and, even though it hinted at the circumstances around it, I would have liked to have been told directly. I feel all of the hinting took away from the story due to its length.

I would read book 2 in the series as I think the author is just getting started and is off to a great start. Keep up the work!

The author has potential. Her debut book has an intriguing plot yet it was too short with development missing on important plot points. Good editing is also necessary.
I do admire her choice of cover.

A very fast read

This was a very nice short story. It would have been better had it been longer. The characters were not well developed and the story seemed to jump ahead a lot. You went from her running out of th ed kitchen, to being on a picnic, to it being sever several days later, then weeks l after to a wedding. If you want to read a decent short story you will enjoy this novella.

Bridget and Alexander

5 sister's lives are changed in one horrific moment. Because of the scandal their father commits suicide and one of the sisters is pregnant. The sisters decide that no one will ever know who the mother is. They are going to lose their ranch so they decide to become mail-order brides. They draw names out of a hat and Bridget is the first one to leave. When Bridget arrives in Butte, Montana, and meets Alexander, she realizes that this is a man she could fall in love with. But her secret and Charlotte Turner threaten to keep them apart. Will Bridget be able to capture Alexander's heart and will her secret keep them apart? Ms. Nicholas has written an engaging story but we might not find out the entire secret until the last sister gets married.

To short

This could have been good with the story linen. This book could have expanded the story with more details. I was left with more questions than enjoyment of the book. This needs a rewrite.
