Elyse MacKintosh is newly betrothed to her childhood friend, Donal MacPherson, in an attempt to seal the rift between the two rival clans. As she struggles to adjust her view of the man who was once a grubby boy she wrestled and hunted frogs with, she suddenly finds herself facing a much bigger problem.
Elyse MacKintosh is forced to adjust when a need to heal a political rivalry drives her families to marry her off to an unexpected candidate: her childhood friend, Donal MacPherson.
Not so with her other “suitor”, violent and obsessed stalker Sir William, who serves the English Lord occupying the lands around Perth. A bane on the Scots citizens who must deal with him daily, he has set his sights on Elyse, attempting to abduct her more than once by the time that Donal steps in.
The situation comes to a head when a cruel deceit by Sir William leads her into an ambush of his devising. Alone, beaten, tied and helpless, she finds herself kidnapped, headed for his camp outside town, where he plans to ravage her.

I read the edition published on Amazon in March 2018 and oh dear, what can I say. Either I am not in tune with this author's writing style or it is badly written. I think it is a combination of the two. I have a lot of tolerance for self published indie authors but there are just too many mistakes in this short story to be acceptable. For example:- 1. At the beginning of the story the female lead is called Elyne. At the end of the story she is calling her Elyse. Donel, at one point is called Donald. 2. The author writes. 'What is so troublesome to women....that neither of them will give me a straight answer.' ??? And 3. 'The first one will go in you arise if you run.' What exactly does this mean? I can cite a lot more examples! I do not understand the five star ratings. There is some semblance of a plot but personally I did not like the violence perpetrated toward Elyne (or is it Elyse) by Sir William. This was not for me and I doubt I would have finished it if it had been a full length novel. The author seriously needs to revise this short story.
I enjoyed the characters in this short story. It was a short story so there wasn’t much character development, however the characters were enduring as we hear about a moment in time in their lives.
Great short story. I love the ending the most. History has proven over time that the English were murders to the Scots and Irish. I'd love to read a long story with Scots in it by you. Thanks
This was the 2nd story in the Sword Book!! Elyse/Elyne tomato/tomato either she and Donald/Donal did well together. I’m glad he got rid of the bastard! What a mean s.o.b. I enjoyed this all too short story. On to the next one by Emma Atwell.💜💜💜💜💜
