She’s moved back to her hometown of Milburn, Wyoming, and, together with her lifelong best friend, Raquel Madden, is opening the diner they've been planning since high school. Life couldn't be better...and it's time to celebrate! Sadly, the celebration doesn't last long. Just three days before the diner is set to open its doors, Raquel is found murdered. And with no clear motive and little cooperation from the townspeople, Nora is thrown into a murder investigation that just may cause her to lose her own life.
I'm a mother, wife, homemaker, pet lover, teacher, student, reader, writer, drinker of tea & wine (depending on the time of day) and sleep-deprived dreamer. I live in Syracuse, NY, with my husband, Doug (also a writer with books available on Amazon), our three children and too many furred & feathered friends to list!
Sorry, but terrible. No self respecting woman is EVER going to put up with being spoken to in this way!
I tried to like it, it really did. But after the main character gets verbally abused by TWO different men who are supposed to be "friends", and one actually becomes a boyfriend and the other stays a friend, that was enough. But still I read on, and it happens again, and again she puts up with it. Seriously? To be given an ultimatum, which is basically "My way or the Highway" and then they go on with the story like nothing happened doesn't fly. How many times is Nora going to put up with being basically told she's stupid by not only a male "friend" but also her boyfriend before she finally tells them to go to hell? As a woman who believes you should NEVER let a man put you down, I am ashamed of the author for portraying Nora as such a wuss. How many abused woman are going to read this and think that the verbal abuse they receive is somehow their fault or somehow deserved. After all, Nora put up with it, didn't she?
I just couldn't finish this thing. Continuity is not something the author is familiar with. Mistakes are something to be fixed, not ignored. I just wish the author had tried to find an editor or proofreader.
Nora Newberry spent 10 years working and learning to become a chef. Returning to her home town of Milburn, Wyoming, she plans to open a diner with the help of her best friend and partner, Raquel Madden. Everything is looking good until Raquel is murdered. Despite warnings from Sheriff Sean Dracon, Nora feels compelled to investigate Raquel's murder. Eventually, with Nora's help, Sean solves the mystery of Raquel's death.
Like all of us, Nora's life seems to have its ups and downs. Her dream is to open her own diner and offer a different menu from that offered by other establishments in the area.
Nora seems to have a thirst for mystery and although she doesn't always find the bodies, she does feel it necessary to help find the culprits and solve the mysteries of who, what, how, and why in each case.
Nora and Sean become friends, but when Nora meets Harvey Nathaniel, a local real estate developer, she is drawn to him. With her share of luck and her good instincts, Nora may even live long enough to get married...
The series involves many murders, with situations, locations, and people that bring the stories to life. Nora is frequently up to something that includes a variety of friends and enemies associated with her investigations.
Nancy McGovern has done a wonderful job of writing this series. Among \the characters are the some people you would like to know better, while others are people you would never want in your life, or the lives of your children. The situations are varied and the characters very realistic.
Great reading. How can one woman get caught up in so many mysteries and murders? Each book has just enough clues to keep you guessing and it’s fun to try and guess the guilty party
Nancy's Milburn series was filled with what felt like short stories but I enjoyed them. I loved reading Nora Newberry's exploits and meeting all the characters who came into her life. The mysteries were fun and I didn't solve all of them before the ends of the stories. One of my pet peeves is grammatical errors and typos. I did find them a little distracting. That kept me from giving these books a higher rating. That being said, I would still recommend this series to anyone who loves cozy mysteries in small town Wyoming.
I love these cozy mysteries. It is about Nora Newberry and the things that happen along the way in her diner. A diner she waited 10 long years to open with her friend Raquel Madden. Sadly, Raquel is killed and Nora feels like she must find out who killed her and why, plus get the diner up and running. These really are great stories!
One thing I like about this series is that the female lead quickly starts taking danger seriously. She listened when the people who care about her say they don't want her hurt, and takes precautions. She is put in danger a few times, but not someyhing she sought out. I also liked the interplay of the characters.
Milburn, a sleepy town of busy bodies that have developed a case of murder every other week. Without the tenacity of the heroine, each murder would have remained unsolved. Sometimes, the romance themes get a little, how do I say, "REALLY???", which is why I gave it 4 instead of 5. When she is not stupid about boyfriends, she is a fun heroine to follow through each story.
I loved this great collection featuring Nora in the small town of Milburn. Suspense with lots of twists and turns turns through the books. I recommend this book to those who love clean cozy mysteries.
What a great read, all 12 of them. Love the mysteries and characters. Nora is the new miss Marple, and Shercook. She is smart and observant with eyes for details that notices the little details that was dismissed by the sheriff and others.
I love her books! No disappointment, no dislike & no problem! She did great job on it! I would give her more than five 🌟's for rate! I would commend her books 📚 to everyone! She is awesome writer! 😊💜💛💚💙
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series. It held its suspense until the very end of each book. Most of the time it was very difficult to figure out the murderer. Great read
I enjoyed these stories. I thought they were well-written. There were minor editing issues that were easily read through, which is why I say 4 instead of 5. The stories are fun to read. Took awhile to get through all 12, but enjoyable enough to do so.
Was nice to follow the characters in a town over a few years and watch them grow. How one small town can have so many murders is a mystery in and of itself.
I totally enjoyed every book in this series! I am looking forward to reading the next books in this series. I would highly recommend this author and this set of books!
I read the first two... or maybe three books in the series. I may finish the rest at some point. They weren't bad, but a 12 book series is an awful lot.
This author needs to find a really good proofreader and editor. I like the characters overall but the errors and inconsistencies are distracting. I slogged through this but I highly recommend the author review and rewrite. There is no shame in asking for help!
I really tried hard to read this but I just couldn't. It was like reading a bad hallmark movie with a main character that was just dull. I made it to book 3 but just couldn't. maybe I will go back someday and try again.
