A new romantic suspense series by USA Today Bestselling Author Margaret Daley Murder. On the Run. Second Chances. Luke Michaels' relaxing camping trip ends when he witnesses a woman being thrown from a bridge. He dives into the river to save her, shocked to find her wrapped in chains. As a canine search and rescue volunteer, Luke has assisted many victims, but never a beauty whose defeated gaze ignites his primal urge to protect. When Megan Witherspoon's killers make it clear they won't stop, Luke fights to save her, but can he keep her alive long enough to find out who is after her?

Once again I'm tandem swooning over a human hero and a canine one. Luke and Shep make a great team -- my increased heart rate testifies to that. Though the gripping, hold-your-breath-and-hope-for-the-best suspense may have something to do with those elevated rates as well. Phew! I might need a defibrillator! This is one exciting read from the get go. Daley doesn't waste any time plunging her characters (and readers) straight into danger. And it doesn't let up.
Though the whole story takes place over just a few days, the romance develops realistically with the sweet promise of what might happen once the criminals are brought to justice. And there's a super sweet epilogue to tie up any romantical loose ends.
Shep steals the show on more than one occasion, but he's also periodically upstaged by a defiant fluff ball called Lady (who is anything but.) You know a romance is made in heaven when both the hero and heroine have doggy companions. This made me one doggone happy reader. :-)
Both Luke and Megan rediscover the power and peace that comes from holding onto God's promises even during the toughest times. I appreciate the way that inspirational thread is deftly woven into the fabric of the story. Neither overpowering or understated. It fits perfectly with the characters and the situations they find themselves in.
And I am so thrilled that this indie published series is available in both paperback and audible along with the ebook format. That isn't always the case when it comes to independently published books. I listened to the audible version narrated by Kim Niemi and have the next three tagged in my wish list for future listening. The series -- Everyday Heroes -- is about just that -- regular guys doing extraordinary things. And they all have canine companions! Eep!!! You know I'll be reading them all!
Hunted is an action-packed start to the Everyday Heroes series! Right from the beginning, Megan Witherspoon is fighting for her life and Luke Michaels is determined to protect her.
I liked these two characters. Luke had a lot of experience being in search and rescue which helped as they were trying to stay one step ahead of the bad guys. Megan didn’t have a lot of camping or hiking experience, but she was a smart woman who worked to adapt to the situations they faced. Luke and Megan worked well together and were enjoyable to read about. I’m looking forward to future books in this series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Welcome to ABC. The Awful Book Club. Where Julia and I read the cringiest, silliest, most ridiculously strange trashy books we can find. This is number one and it was the perfect start to the club.
My favourite quote:
“Could Shelley have been a part of the drug ring? She’s the elementary school nurse so she’d have access to them.”
This wasn't one of my favourites of Margaret Daley. I can't really pin point a specific area of the book that I didn't like. I feel like maybe the problem was that it was such a short book and so much was crammed in there that a lot of it was lost. You didn't really get to know the characters that well, because as soon as they touched on one topic, they nearly immediately switched to another subject, never scoping below the surface. Basically what I'm trying to say is the characters were shallow and you never really connected with them. One of the other things I didn't like was their caring of injures. You defiantly don't start pumping someones chest before you check their pulse, of cause Luke could have done that and Margaret just didn't put it in there but that's just poor writing. I loved how they dated for a year before Luke proposed. To often in these types of novels they meet, date and marry all in a year. I liked Shep the dog. If your looking for a short action/romance filled book its a good one to read.
Hunted is a fabulous start to Margaret Daley’s new series, Everyday Heroes. It is no secret she is among my favorite and go to authors. But this has got to be one of her best works. I just wanted to read a few pages right before bed, but I stayed up until I finished the whole book! I love the hero, Luke, and how he saved Megan. Those two became quite the duo trying to find out what happened to her and why. Great “stay on the edge of your seat” suspense!
5 plus stars. Highly recommended.
I received this book from the author, but was not required to write a review. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
First, let me say that "It's me, not you". Most of the other reviewers have given this 4-5 *'s, but it just didn't engage me. The plot was OK, but the execution could have been better. It just seemed so much "tell" instead of "show", and the depth just wasn't there.
One more thing- neither positive, nor negative- it is "faith-based" ie "Christian"- NOT in-y0ur-face/ hit-your-head, but it was there.
What would you do if you were camping in a remote area and saw two men throwing a woman from a bridge into the river below? Frankly I would never make a good hero in a book like this one for more reasons than I can count. However, Luke had the necessary training and skills, so he did not hesitate to jump into action. Fortunately for Megan, he was the one in the woods that day. But the excitement was only beginning. Between bad guys, fires, black bears, and an unexplainable fear Megan had of men wearing police uniforms and “Smokey Bear” hats, Luke did not know which way to turn to keep her safe and find out what was going on. Wherever they went, Luke could sense someone watching them. The action is fast and heart-stopping with twists and turns that kept me reading to discover why Megan was thrown in the river. Her belief in God kept her strong and pressing on. Luke came into the story with faith only in himself and his dog, Shep, because he had turned away from God when his wife died. The longer he was around Megan, the more impact her faith had on him. We all need to ask ourselves if we live so that others are drawn to Jesus rather than pulled away. I received a copy of the book from the author. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
This is Book 1 in the Everyday Heroes series and it is filled with suspense! Luke Michaels is taking some down time from his Search and Rescue duties camping with his faithful German Shepherd, Shep, when he witnesses two thugs carrying a woman wrapped in chains and throwing her in the river. Luke goes into action to rescue her and the adventure begins! The rescued woman is Megan Witherspoon and she doesn’t remember what happened. Luke is determined to protect her and find the truth. I especially enjoy Author Margaret Daley’s stories with animals. Besides Luke’s Shep, Megan has a miniature poodle named Lady. Lady is typical poodle, sassy and opinionated! As Megan tries to remember, Luke does his best to keep her safe. Luke can’t help feeling they are being watched at every turn. Will he succeed in protecting her and fitting together the pieces of the puzzle before it’s too late? I think this is going to be a good series with ordinary men becoming extraordinary heroes! I was given a complimentary copy of the book, but I’m not obligated to post a review.
Hunted had many positive story points. I liked it had a strong faith based message and the female main character had a positive influence on her rescuer. I liked the excitement of the plot. I liked the setting and the detail description of the area and how it added to the plot. I liked the ending. The one slight disappointment was how quickly they fell for each other and saying that I look forward to reading more of Margaret Daley's books in the future.
Hunted by Margaret Daley Everyday Heroes Series Book One Luke Michaels life had changed drastically once. It was about to change again. What started as a few days of R&R on a camping trip turned into a rescue mission when his dog, Shep, alerted him of danger.
Megan Witherspoon had a normal life. Definitely leaning on the dull side. That all changed when she found herself in danger—and with no memory of why. Not knowing where to go or who to trust...she found herself depending on a total stranger.
As always, Margaret Daley has written another great suspense story with romance. I always enjoy a suspense that has me guessing who the bad guy is and being surprised in the end. Looking forward to more in this series. http://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...
DNF. I understand that people have a belief system and that they include it within their everyday lives... however, I wouldn't have started this if I had known that there was a constant reference to a religious belief. I think there should've been some sort of mention of this... AN's? Or somewhere. For me, it distracts from the read and therefore... DNF.
NOTE: Just spotted it in 'genres'... but that is only cos I looked eventually at the author...
Luke rescues Megan and then tried to protect her while she tries to remember why someone would try to kill her. She has amnesia and conveniently remembers things in dreams and eventually in a flashback at the crime scene.
The plot was okay though I dislike the amnesia trope, but the characters weren't very deep. The author only gives the two main characters any depth and it's not much.
I forgot just how good a storyteller Margaret Daley is. This story gives us strong characters and a fast paced engaging story. Loved the characters and how they struggled and won. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
My review is on the Christian Suspense, Hunted. This is book one in the Everyday Heroes Series. I always enjoy Margaret's work. This one is no exception I really liked it. This story is well written, action packed and full of faith. I know you are going to love it.
Search and Rescue Worker Luke Michaels is sleeping in the wilderness when his dog wakes him. He sees two men yelling on top of the bridge in the distance. There is a woman standing with them. One of the men hits her in the face and then the men throw her over the bridge. Luke can see she is wrapped up in chains. He dives in and saves the woman. When she can talk to him she is unable to remember what happened to her. She refuses to allow him to call the police. What is going on?
Megan Witherspoon wakes up and can't remember the last twenty-four hours. She is rescued but she knows she can't call the police. The police are some how involved and she can't trust them. She's a teacher. She lives a dull life. Why would anyone want to kill her.
A horrific journey to find answers and stay a step ahead of these killers. Luke calls in the State Patrol as his best friend is working for them. Can they find answers before they find them. God has a plan for them, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a good plan and not for evil. In this time of turmoil we need His help. People don't understand that we have kicked Him out of our lives and His hands are tied unless we make Him Lord of our lives. Give Him your heart and watch Him turn your life around.
Luke is just camping out with his dog in the woods when his dog begins to growl. Luke is sleeping so he knows that's a signal that there is trouble. He jumps up and looks down over the river. Imagine his surprise when he sees two thugs hitting a woman, wrapping her in chains, and then throwing her over the bridge into the river! Luke is a search and rescue person so he takes off running to try and save the woman!!! I can't even imagine watching that situation unfold. I'm sure his only thought is getting to the woman and trying to save her before she drowns! Fortunately, he does, and then gets caught up in Megan Witherspoon's life. Megan has absolutely no idea why people are trying to kill her. There are numerous attempts on her life but fortunately, Luke is there helping her, although sometimes, it's very close! The two of them don't know where to turn! This is a great suspense story and I had to keep reading it until I was done! I wanted to make sure Megan and Luke were safe! LOL I loved Luke's dog too - he was such a great part of the story. This is Ms. Daley's new series about everyday heroes and I can already tell I'm going to love whatever books she will write! This one was fantastic! Of course I recommend it!
Wow!! I was so excited to see Margaret Daley is working on a new series and has released the first book. The cover gives a small glimpse at the story inside. As the story opens we meet Luke Michaels who's camping along the Kentucky River with his dog/coworker enjoying some downtime when he witnesses a young woman struggling with two men who throw her from a bridge. He immediately kicks into action by diving in and pulling her out. This all happens in the opening pages showing me this is going to be a fast paced story, which it is. Here comes the trust part, Megan Witherspoon awakens to see a stranger standing over her, but can't remember recent events. As her memories start to come back she becomes aware that if she wants to live then she must turn to a stranger for help. Luke isn't a policeman, far from it, but he knows that someone is out to hurt Megan. He vows to help her figure this out while keeping her safe. The plot is full of twists and turns leading to suspense, mystery and a touch of romance. Needless to say I loved it. Margaret Daley has a way of pulling the reader into the story and making them feel like they are apart of it. I believe she has written another hit and I would recommend it to anyone.
This was such an awesome book!!! It's a fast paced read with all the action, drama, suspense, twists, turns, danger, mystery, hot alpha male and a romance you don't want to miss. The story and characters were well written and off the charts amazing, they grabbed me form the beginning and kept my interest the entire book. I loved Luke and Megan together. Luke sees Megan in chains being thrown from a bridge. He immediately jumps in diving to pull her out. Megan awakens to see a stranger standing over her not remembering what has happened. Will she get her memory back? Will Luke be able to keep her safe? These are questions you'll need to find out when you grab a copy of this must read book! The author had a way with her word usage that made me feel like I was there watching the story unfold, I can't wait to read more from this author!!!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a very good book written by Margaret Daley and I enjoyed reading it. A man and his K9 dog camping, two men and a young woman being thrown off bridge into the river, saving her, not trusting, finding out who and what he is, talking her home, K-9 protect, hiding house burned down, finding her dog, talking to neighbor, hiding out at his horse ranch, feeling safer, talking about what to do, remembering, getting friends help, house set on fire, all getting to safety, having to leave, going to mountain cabin, being found, contacting help, scared of heights, climbing down the mountain, will they make it without being killed? Will help get there in time? Will they find out who and why they want her dead? Will they have a happy ever after? I would recommend this book to everyone who loves a mystery and finding love. Buy the book and find out what happens. Enjoy
a short read... Why was someone trying to kill this woman? Luke rescued her, Megan thanked God for sending Luke. The only thing she remembers from the last twenty-four hours is seeing a policeman coming out of the women’s restroom in the school where she teaches. Bits and pieces of her memory are coming back.....they hide in an isolated cabin they’re not sure who to trust. As megan regains her memories the big question is who ??? who is behind the murder of another teacher and why? Will Luke and Megan stay alive until the men after them are captured? This was a good read for the first book in the series! Sadly, this reader wishes and feels ...this story could've been better; it felt too much like the author tried to squeeze what should have been a two hundred page book into a one hundred page book instead of letting the love story write itself. JMO... might've been better to have fewer action scenes that were more detailed than many with few details.... felt more like the book was just churned out too fast or the author wasn't into the storyline.
I still like this author and will look for her next book.
This is a fast-paced, suspenseful and unpredictable. Luke wakes up to his dog, Shep, alerting danger, just in time to see two men throwing Megan from a bridge into the river. He jumps in to save her, then brings her back to his campsite. She has no idea what happened to her, or how. They go to her house to get her dog, only to find it burned down. While Luke tries to helo her figure things out, danger follows them. And also while they try to outrun the danger, they fight the attraction between them. Luke's wife died 4 years earlier, leaving him bitter and cynical. Megan didn't want him to be exposed to danger, so kept trying to get him to leave her, which he refused to do. They, along with Shep, make a strong, respectful team that I enjoyed reading about. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
First time I have read this author, but not the last.
This book drew me in from the first page. A search and rescue man, Luke, and his dog Shep are camping, when Shep alerts to two men struggling with a woman on a bridge near their campsite and wakes Luke up in time to see them throw a woman bound in chain off the bridge into the river. Hero to the rescue! What a jump start entry here.
The action is steady, it's not predictable in the mystery and some romance. All in all, it's a light easy flowing read and I enjoyed it.
I did read some of the reviews given and agree that the book is a bit on the short side, and had plenty of room for additional depth that would have made it way better. I can't speak to the comparisons to real life counterparts that some found lacking. For me, it did what I love a book to do, just fall in and enjoy the story.
Luke was just waking up while camping when he hears his dog, Shep, growl out in danger. What he saw was not what anyone could've expected. Someone was throwing a chain bound woman off the bridge into the river and leaving her to drown. He couldn't just let her die as a rescuer and dove in after her. Megan woke up not remember how she got where she was or why and scared. So, having saved her, now Luke and Shep have to keep Megan alive. 💗🔥💕
This is the first book in the Everyday Heroes Series and it is really well-written and developed. I truly enjoyed reading this book and am looking forward to the next one in the series. 😍
