Süss, süsser, dieses Buch🥲 Ein knuffiges Bilderbuch über die aufregenden zehn Minuten, bevor das kleine Monster ins Bett muss🤭 Und wie zuckrig sind die Zeichnungen bitte?😭
We love the Ten Minutes to Bed series - especially Little Dinosaur - but Little Monster has probably been our most disappointing read. The illustrations are the true champion of this series, although the lyrical narrative is also very nice, but this story seems to suffer with those.
The illustrations are quite dark - especially in the first few pages - and the usual emotional connection the author seems to compel from you with the characters they create appears to also have reduced a bit with Little Monster, who isn’t particularly cute or fun like the other characters we’ve met.
The story is still nice, the narrative is still pretty and fun, and the illustrations are good. I imagine if this was our first Ten Minutes to Bed we would be really happy with it, but we’ve been spoiled with other better ones in the series and I guess we noticed the difference in execution because of that.
Ten Minutes to Bed is a beautifully illustrated series by Rhiannon Fielding and illustrated by Chris Chatterton. it features Ten Minutes to Bed: Little Mermaid Ten Minutes to Bed: Little Unicorn Ten Minutes to Bed: Little Monster Ten Minutes to Bed: Little Dragon Ten Minutes to Bed: Little Dinosaur ( My favorite) These naughty children each go on an adventure before bedtime, doing everything they can to stretch out there bedtime buy alas sleep catches up with all of them. Each book is a countdown from 10 minutes to bedtime, brimming with magic and cuteness. There a lovely series of books for children of all ages.
It is time for little monsters to sleep… but this little one wants to party~
After the success of Ten Minutes to Bed: Baby Unicorn, I just had to get more of this series. I will now be buying 2 books each month until I got the whole collection of Ten Minutes to Bed and then it is waiting for new books~
Meet Belch (perfect name for a monster), she has to go to bed in 10 minutes… but she isn’t planning on going without a bang. In this book we see her eat jelly (while it looked good some parts definitely made my stomach go), we see her have all the fun and all the party, even her friends make an appearance which had me laughing because hello? We got 10 minutes? Well, by that time even less. Impromptu dance party wasn’t one thing I expected to see, but I love it! I had so much fun seeing Belch have tons of fun, though I do wonder how times goes so slowly in Belch’s world because normally 10 minutes with fun feel more like 1 minute. XD
I loved that this girl herself decided to go to bed. She was sleepy. The 10 minutes were almost over. I was expected that maybe a parent had to show up, but no! Good girl! I did love seeing a peek of mom, which made me smile. I was already wondering where the parents were, but apparently they were around and let their kid have her fun. I would also allow my kid (if I had one) to have all the fun if she goes to bed herself in time.
I just love the pages before and after the story. The one with the map. At the beginning it is day and we see all the creatures from Ten Minutes to Bed in their places, we see monsters, and more. Then at the end of the book it is night and there is still plenty to see! Lots of cuteness… but wait what is that in the lake?
The art is still really adorable. The style fits so well with the story and I just love how cute everything is.
All in all, this is a wonderful book and I would highly recommend it. A spooky but adorable read~
LITTLE MONSTER (TEN MINUTES TO BED) is an adorable and charming board book about the last ten minutes before bed. Little Monster is getting ready to sleep, but first, she has a snack, plays with toys, reads a book - and has a ball with her monster friends. At the end of the book, she does settle down and get some well-deserved rest.
What I loved: This was a really fun book to read aloud with rhyming phrases that roll easily off the tongue. The story is impressive with how much happens in the ten minutes before bed, but parents will also giggle at the relatable absurdity at how challenging it can be to make it through those ten minutes. The story includes a minute countdown throughout, which is great for early number recognition.
The images are really fun with adorable monsters throughout in bright color. The inclusion of a map during the day and at sleep in the front and back were really adorable, with other creatures from books in the series making an appearance there. The ending settling down to sleep makes this a fun choice for nighttime.
What left me wanting more: As a small thing, parents may not care too much for some of the bodily humor (such as the visually flatulent monster), even though children may enjoy the giggle. This also goes for the monster names (including the lead named Belch but also monster friends).
Final verdict: LITTLE MONSTER (TEN MINUTES TO BED) is a cute, rhyming board book that is fun to read aloud. Recommend for toddlers and preschoolers.
Please note that I received an ARC. All opinions are my own.
A fun and charming bedtime story, perfect for kids who like a little adventure before lights out. The countdown to bedtime begins as little monster Belch races through the enchanted forest, trying to avoid going to sleep. The rhyming text adds a playful rhythm to the story, while Chris Chatterton’s cute and colorful illustrations bring the magical world to life.
With each page, the clock ticks closer to bedtime, making it an engaging way to calm down excited little ones. The combination of a silly monster and a cozy nighttime routine makes this book a great addition to bedtime reading especially the month before Halloween ☺️
I love this book and so do my girls. I first heard it when Dave Grohl read it as a Cbeebies bedtime story and I instantly fell in love determined to get a copy for my girls. Finally got a copy at Christmas and my girls adore it, especially the eldest who can be cheeky herself at bedtime.
