His Alpha: Curving Straight Lines

Rate this book
If the moon made me this way, then why does it feel like a curse? He is the Alpha, and I am his Beta. It's time for me to bend straight - there are some lines I must not cross. But every time I see him, the lines curve, gnawing into my soul. This is our destiny, yet nobody can know that the Moon has both blessed and cursed us with this forbidden love. A hidden, dark fire. It was our secret. A secret we denied - a secret too dark to share. We don't bend that way. I left. I had to escape the torture, the heartache. I lived among humans. I studied them. I found myself. Or, should I say, The Professor discovered me. They can never know that a human male seduced me, or that I loved him - it means certain death for both of us. He taught me everything I know, made me the wolf I am today. But even that love was not enough. I return to my territory. Leaving the sophisticated freedom of the city for the stifling traditionalism of my pack - a place where my soul, my desire, my love, must be locked away and hidden. This ache is my one true companion, never leaving my side. Perhaps the pain never ends, but I must go on. I'm not the runt I once was. My body is lean, muscled, and powerful now. I see my transformation in their eyes. I see it in his eyes. He may be my Alpha, but he will come to me. The moon may have cursed us both, and our path may be full of torture, pain, and lines so curved that we get lost, but I have no choice. He has no choice. It is time for me to bend straight for the pack, but in my soul, I know my lines are curved and undulating, and that they all lead to him; my rightful mate. My cursed mate, one that fate demands and that our society forbids. I don't know how to go on...

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Rachelle Mills is a 2016 Watty winner for Voracious Reads - Clayton, and Featured Writer on Wattpad where she first published the acclaimed read under her breakout pseudonym, Whiskeyqueenn.

Ms. Mills has won the devotion of her international “Wildflower Pack" fandom, new readers and critics alike for her fantastically realized paranormal universes, where alpha male and luna-made werewolves fight tooth and claw for hierarchy. And the often blood-red path of true love is made as rocky and perilous for them as possible by society and the capricious deities it serves. Her disturbingly relatable shifters at once frustrate and enthrall readers, drawn with an expert grasp of the real-life complexities with which she imbues these primal beings, yielding the eternal conflict between their controlled, infinitely human side and their vicious, virtually untamable were-side. Mills' emotive style is singularly descriptive, bringing her trademark dark romances with their grey characters to vivid life.

She comes by the broad knowledge base that informs her worlds’ ethnically diverse characters and mix of global cultural traditions organically.

Ms. Mills lives in Canada with her family of humans and two judgmental dogs.

His Alpha: Curving Straight Lines
By Rachelle Mills

The Alpha's son, Tate, and Tommie have been best friends since they were young. When they both hit their first shift Tate and Tommie discover they are mates, but they are both straight and male mates would not be accepted in their pack. Even if they did mate Tommie presented as a beta and he would not be able to bear pups for the only heir to the pack.

Tommie goes away to college for 4 years to avoid Tate and only comes home to visit his parents when Tate is away. During Tommie's time in college he comes to love a male Professor.

When Tommie graduates from college and comes back to the pack he discovers nothing has changed in their situation. Tate is still refusing him and he is still heartbroken.

If you want a book with a HEA or even a HFN this is not the book for you. It was 5 hours of heartbreaking anguish in which I cried through 95% of it. I often prefer books with heavy anguish and heartache, but I won't endure 5 hours of it only for neither of the MC's to not get at least a HFN, if not a HEA.

The one thing I come away with from this book is how much I hate Tate. As badly as he wants Tommie he is cruel to him and he is extremely emotionally abusive in his actions. I hope he finds himself miserable and filled with regret for the rest of his days.

Side Note: I've read 3 other books by this author. She has an amazing gift for letting the reader feel exactly what her characters are feeling. But IMHO this gift comes with a curse. I have yet to read a book by her in which the MC's get a HFN or a HEA. Every single one of her books have ended in brutal heartache for one of the fated mates while the other rides off into the sunset carefree.

Loved it!

I am one of the privileged reader, who got to read this book on Wattpad. I love the works of Rachelle Mills and I am so happy that I could finally have her works on my shelf.

Tommie is the beta to Alpha Tate. When they come of age, they realize that the fate had intertwined their lives in the most impossible way. They struggle to come into terms of their sexuality. Being together and accepting their fate isn't easy. An Alpha is expected to choose a Luna who could bear children, a heir to his pack.

Tommie tries to go away for his studies, but when he returns after 4 years, the emotions he carefully tried to bury so deep is once again awoken. Throw in a pack drama, you are in for the ride that's worth your time.

This is the first gay romance I read. As usual the author sends her readers on an emotional roller-coaster right from the beginning. Those who don't know about this author, she writes about pain and how to deal with it.

Her characters doesn't have it easy, they fight for it. She shows their weak, vulnerable moments. The characters of her stories always earn their respect, not just in the world they are portrayed, but also in the minds of their readers.

I love how her characters mature from the struggle they go through. Her works have motivated upcoming writers like me personally and professionally.

I highly recommend Rachelle's works. If you haven't read her stories before, you are missing it.

So what are you waiting for :D

I love Rachelle Mills books. I am a fan and have read all her books from Wattpad and Radish. I am so thrilled she will be published. Rachelle is one of the talented authors that are going to blow your mind. Through out any preconceived notions on how a story should go because the old formula just doesn’t cut it.
Go into her books with an open mind and heart and it will be an awesome reading experience.

His Alpha will curve your attitudes it is about a love that has been fought a heart that has been frayed and a character of a man shaped by what his community thinks it should be not what nature and moon have declared it to be.

Relationships will be formed and broken, hearts shattered and self doubt runs rampant. This is not a sweet easy read. If your looking for that move on to something else. If you’re looking for an author take makes you feel the characters, that you will talk about with friends and who will tear your heart out but reshape it and return it whole then His Alpha is for you.

I first read Rachelle’s writing in Clayton. It is a reread for me.

His Alpha is also a reread for me. I find her reading to be rich with clues, not necessarily what you think will happen. She has been my new favorite author since reading Clayton. Werewolves aren’t my genre but hers are.

Tommy is a true man.

As well as her non paranormal writing.

Once again we’ll done will purchase today on amazon.

Rachelle Mills is an incredibly gifted & talented writer.

'His Alpha' introduces you to just one of Rachelle's worlds & the characters of Tommie, Tate, Hazel, Addie, the Valentines (love those Valentines) and their packs.

Rachelle's story of forbidden love has some of the most raw heartbreakingly honest moments as each of these characters contend with who they are, who they truly are, and societies' expectations of who they should be & how they should behave.

Rachelle writes so beautifully of love, of choices, of longing and desire, of bodies moving together & apart, of needs, of our confusion, mistakes made, the hurt we do to each other (intentional or not), of coming to terms, of friendship, of family relationships, of acceptance, of new futures and of hope.

I really really recommend that you check out 'His Alpha' on Amazon. Like so many of us, Rachelle's writing will have you hooked from the opening paragraph.

Can you be wrong if you are born this way? Tommie and Tate are best friends till they find out that they are mate’s ! In there conservative community is impossible to be together, specially if one of you is the alpha! Read there journey about acceptance and denying... Some people will never accept them self and always curve straight lines...

Rachelle Mills is very unique and talented author! She has built all by herself a big fandom and community that she really care about!
All books that she writes are unique masterpieces withe a profoundness that truly gets to everyone that reads her work !

Give her books a try you won’t be disappointed!

Will have you questioning the whole ‘mate’ thing...

I have followed this amazing author from Wattpad. Her stories are as realistic as a fictional world can be. Her characters don’t get insta-love, they get hard truths. Heartache, painful journeys that force them to see themselves and those around them for who they really are. Tommie and those in his life are no different. You will love and hate his journey... but will never find yourself not finishing it. In fact, you will only want more. Of Tommie’s world, and anything else Ms. Mills has to offer, which is lots, I can assure you...

I was intrigued from the beginning, how would this turn out? I loved the way it was written; it was not the normal run of the mill shifter/mates story and oh I was so wanting the main character to succeed. I didn't like the 'ending' BUT I seriously look forward to reading the next book in the series and delving into the world Rachelle Mills has created.

I was introduced to Mills and her works on Wattpad. Her writing is magic turned to words, believe me when I say you will be captivated by the world she made. His alpha (and characters in all of her other books) are deep, complex and absolutely relatable. She will make you see different sides of situations and it will challenge you to bend your straight lines.

I thought the book was engaging, so descriptive. The feeling and emotions the story takes you is a roller coaster ride, that not only has deep drops, but twists and turns. This is truly not a straight line ride.
If gay romance and realistic werewolves interest you, then this book will satisfy.

Mates…. 🥹

Spoilers!
Tommy and Tate are best friends. They are also mates. Neither was prepared nor willing to be together. This finished their friendship.
Tommy is non-verbally rejected by Tate. This makes it hard for Tommy as Tate is the next Alpha of his pack. He won’t talk to him or look at him anymore 😢
Tommy convinces his parents to let him go to college. There he falls prey to a professor that is into young males. He is Tommy’s first gay experience. The perverted professor took advantage of Tommy but he also made it possible for Tommy to accept who he is. Before his last year of college the Professor dumped him. Tommy was devastated but he also learned that he could love someone other than his mate.
After he graduated he returned to his pack. As the next Beta he new he had to work with Tate and it was killing him. Tate also kept screwing Hazel the Whooole time! 😠 Why couldn’t he suffer like Tommy did every time he had sex. 😣
As the months go by Tommy is still viewed as an outsider. Any idea he has are rejected and even his father won’t back him up.
The Luna knows about Tate and Tommy and is not prepared for her son to be outed and thrown out of the pack. She calls Clayton’s pack and lets him know Tommy is gay and she wants him gone. Clayton offers Tommy the Beta position in his pack and Tate tells him to go.
Tommy make one last effort to make Tate acknowledge their bond and they have sex. Not LOVE making but sex as Tate hurts him and leaves him.
Tommy decides to leave and knows he’s not coming back. Tate watches as he leaves and doesn’t do anything. 😠
The Luna then decides it’s time for Tate to marry and produce the next Alpha. She looks around and picks a woman who is mated to another woman. Her father disapproves and has separated both of them. Her mate has been shipped to another country to be “bred”.
SERIOUSLY!!! 🤬
Tommy joins Clayton’s pack and begins meeting the few pack members they have.
Hazel and Addie drop by and let him know they know his mate is Tate. Hazel has been kicked out by the Luna and wants to join him. Addie lets him know she will stay with him for a bit until she knows he’s ok.

There is no HEA here.

Plenty of angst that is my cup of tea. Yippee!

Tate does not deserve Tommy. He could have rejected him and not have been callous about it. He was a major JERK who made his bed and now has to lay in with a woman who has also been wronged.
From the blurbs on the author’s other books 📚 they are all about mates that are rejected. So more angsty reading for me!

This may have been among the first books I purchased in this genre, M/m. While the characters are werewolf shifters, this is only relevant in terms of the preordained mate bond and how a culture copes with changing ideal on acceptable sexual expression. Because I was already predisposed to loving this book, because I am such a fan of this author, I truly loved this book.

An heir to the Alpha and an heir to the beta discover they are preordained mates. What do they do? How do they reconcile their close childhood friendship morphing into a sexual attraction overnight?

This book is somewhat painful to read but the author didn’t pull any cheap shots or overdoing the angst. God I hate over angsty books! As always with this author, the antagonists are multidimensional. The reader is given enough to understand there are reasons, whether good or bad, for decisions made. This author likes to keep her characters firmly in the grey shades which is what makes her books so enjoyable. The good guys do dumb things some times, the bad guys have love in their hearts.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys shifter stories.

So you're telling me that Tommy's story doesn't have a happy ending.

That after being used by his human lover and used by Tate, and after trying to win him over, Tate only fucked him bloody and rejected him in front of their families.

Tommy had no choice but to leave his homophobic pack with their horrific Luna and leave his family and his mate.

Yes, Tommy said that he could love someone else who wasn't his mate but then what was the purpose of this story? (Apart from seeing Tommy suffer, of course).

Well I think I have the answer: make the poor reader lose hours of his life. Because anything is better than this trash.

This one is a Top Read of 2020 for me.

It’s beautifully painful storytelling. Fated mates, broken hearts & new beginnings. I ugly cried in this one & I cannot wait for more words from this author. Her take on shifters is just extraordinary and her characters/dialogue are some of the best I’ve ever read.

Definitely recommend. Just have your tissues handy 😭

Unfortunately very boring

Nothing going on in this book besides Tommie having a lot of flashbacks and his mate saying that's not who I am.

I spoiled myself with the Wildflower series, which was so good. This one Im sorry to say was a big flip for me.

This was book 1 in the "Curving" Tommy and Tate are best friends they are also mates. Neither was prepared and are not willing to be together. This ends their friendship. Tommy convinces his parents to let him go to college. Tommy falls prey to a professor that is into young males he has is first gay experience. The professor took advantage of Tommy but he also made it possible for Tommy to accept who he is. Before his last year of college the Professor dumps him Tommy was devastated but he also learned that he could love someone other than his mate. This was my first time reading this author and this book was really long and I felt that it was a lot of filler. The Luna knows about Tate and Tommy and is not prepared for her son to be outed and thrown out of the pack. She calls Clayton’s pack and lets him know Tommy is gay and she wants him gone. Clayton offers Tommy the Beta position in his pack and Tate tells him to go. I didn't like Tate he was unwilling to step up and protect Tommy and when they have sex he hurts him. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling.

4 heartbreaking stars

This book straight up broke my heart. I loved Tommie so much and just thinking of everything he endured because of Tate just fills me with rage. Way to go Tate looks like you beat Clayton out in the biggest a$$hole category. Here's to praying that Tommie gets his HEA in the next book.

feels like i just read the worst book ever. so much homophobia + internalized homophobia that just.. doesn’t get resolved or anything like ?? so many words and build up it was. disappointing. maybe it’s disappointing in its realism? idk. i don’t like an unhappy ending but this is happy in its own way i suppose. not her best work imo.

Even though the story gave me lots of feels. I was disappointed with how wimpy the main characters were. It just felt incomplete. Too many loose ends. Not worth paying for this story.

Werewolf angst at its best for those who love a bite of bite of in their moon themed romance.A tale of one man's continuous fight with the nature of his beast as his wolf seeks to claw out of a cage of conformity constructed by his homophobic parents to be with his mate.As with others in the series and offshoot of the series these books all end in bitter cliffhangers.

This book is incredible and if i could give it 10 stars i would!

forget what you've read before about shifter books and fated mates and their hea's that always happen in the end. this book (and series is so very different).

this book is heartbreaking, its real life, its wanting to be loved and accepted for who you are and not getting that. its the pain of love, loneliness and longing. its desperate and sad.

yet it's hopeful that irrespective, we can find a place where we are accepted, its about how you survive heartbreak and move on, NOT getting your hea. its about strength and growth and learning.

I cried at the end twice! blubbered actually. not many books make me cry. this one did. i felt it to my core.

reading this book is a sublime experience. it takes us out of our hea comfort zone and instead challenges us to see alt hea as a reality that many of us experience and live full and happy lives with.

BUT you must read Clayton and Dallas (The Wildflower Series) before you read this to fully appreciate all the nuances in this incredible book.

i've read 268 books so far this year and this is in my top 5.

Just WOW!!! now to devour absolutely everything this author has written so far

oh and book 3 of The Wildflower Series, Cassius is out next month!!! happy days

both are alone in the end. no HEA. The one rejecting wants to off himself. Is there supposed to be sequel?

Two childhood besties come of age and discover to their dismay that they’re mates. Problem is, their pack prohibits same-sex mates. Complicating things even further… one MMC is the next alpha, the other MMC is his beta. The alpha-born’s solution is secrecy and self-denial. While he can’t publicly reject H without exposing himself, he does turn on him… dumping the shy, late-blooming young adult as friend and allowing mean boys to bully him once they see they’re no longer best buds.

The cheating here is painful as the alpha goes to great pains to drive H, Tommie, away by screwing females, particularly one, right in the house shared by the alpha/beta families. Their rooms are adjacent so he’s forced to hear them going at it. H goes off to uni where he gains valuable life experience and an elevated taste level among humans that he never would’ve attained in the pack. It’s quite a growth journey. When he returns home he’s a very different wolf… and he ain’t some scrawny little sad sack any more. But even then, he still has some demons to face — his own and his erstwhile mate’s. Now he knows what he wants, but must decide what he will and won’t accept.

Having trouble with this one . .
Tommie is learning to be true to himself and comfortable in his own skin.
BUT
His male professor is a serial sex predator that GROOMED him and taught him the same methods.
