The last thing he wanted……was to fall for a witchAll Torsten Rindle wants is to be normal. As soon as he completes his last job, he’s done with the supernatural. Then Melissande Jones sashays into his life, and Tor finds that he can’t resist this sultry sorceress. He might be able to protect her from vampires and zombies, but can he leave the paranormal world behind after Mel has bewitched him?
Michele has been writing romance, action-adventure and fantasy stories for over twenty years. Her first published novel was DARK RAPTURE.
France, musketeers, vampires and faeries populate her stories. And if she followed the adage 'write what you know', all her stories would have snow in them. Fortunately, she steps beyond her comfort zone and writes about countries she has never visited and of creatures she has never seen.
Michele also writes as Michele Renae, and you can find her erotica, chick lit, and Harlequin Romance titles at your favorite online retailer.
THIS STRANGE WITCHERY was a fun paranormal romance filled with vivid descriptions and well written characters who were engaging and who you wanted to root for. I loved the world building and was pleasantly surprised at the amount of humor in this story. The plot was fun with lots of action and tense moments.
Torsten and Melissande were great together and I loved how opposite they were with Torsten being human, stylish, organized, and Melissande, a witch and his mirror opposite in personality. Their banter is the highlight of the story and really went a long way to seeing how they fit as a couple in the end. I enjoyed watching her push Torsten's buttons throughout the story because he was in serious need of loosening up/fun in his life. Mel could have easily been one of those characters who I deem to stupid to live due to her initial dangerous decision but she skirts that designation by actually having some self-preservation instinct and listening to people when they say danger is afoot. She is a fun, smart, quirky character with a compelling reason for her decisions.
Torsten and Melissande worked well together and I rooted for them as a couple which is something that should happen for a paranormal romance to work well. THIS STRANGE WITCHERY's ending was bittersweet for Mel's family and was an entertaining read all the way through.
I'd been annoyed with myself for taking so long to read this book, and then once I started, took a while for me to find the time to sit and read - but how appropriate that I finish it just an hour or so before I get ready to go out to watch the lunar eclipse for the super blood wolf moon. Now it almost seems intentional, since in the book, they're having to wait for the blood moon to perform the spell, and there's an eclipse that night.
Wonderful book, loved the characters, loved the story and all the character background. As always, the romance is great, and so sexy. The characters are quirky and funny, and also so noble as they do their best to try to do the right thing, even when it means struggling with their wants and needs and a battle between the heart and mind. I always enjoy the Paris setting, and the descriptions of magic - such beautiful imagery. And it's always nice to see characters from other stories - makes me want to go back and read their books again, but there are still so many books I've not read yet.
I'm sad that this is Michele Hauf's last Nocturne with Harlequin, because this is Harlequin's last Nocturne. I know she's going to be writing some different things for a while, but I do hope she returns to this world of Beautiful Creatures that she's created. It's really one of my favorite worlds to visit in books. I've enjoyed these characters so much.
The Beautiful Creatures world created by Michele Hauf has been a favorite since I was first introduced. My enthusiasm to discover what unique characters would be in any following stories was always high, as the author constantly comes up with individuals who are like no other. The hero in this book has been met before, and I wondered if he had any secrets that he kept concealed. Turns out he does, and the heroine brings additional dilemmas into his life for him to overcome. I thoroughly enjoyed this last Nocturne release from Ms. Hauf, which showcases her brilliant writing talent.
Although Torsten Rindle is human, he knows all about the supernatural beings that coexist with those who remain unaware. He has several job descriptions, but he is best known for cleaning up incidents which would have let those still in the dark know that immortals are all around them. Yet there are times when he would like to have an ordinary life and not worry about keeping so many facts hidden. Just when Tor is finally ready to make a big career change, Melissande Jones shows up wanting his help. Upon seeing several threats first-hand, he feels one more assignment must be undertaken.
One guaranteed aspect of a Michele Hauf book is that there will be plenty of vivid descriptions. From the start of THIS STRANGE WITCHERY, characters along with any setting are depicted with colorful details. I could always tell how a person appeared and why they had chosen a certain look. Finding out about their likes and dislikes let me get a sense of their inner natures, which also drew me closer to them. There are so many past characters in the story, though if they have not been met before, their roles are still made clear. A wide variety of supernatural creatures are featured from time to time, some known and others that are new, and I especially liked seeing a particular werewolf again.
While Tor may know about those who possess unusual capabilities, he thinks the time has come for him to take his life in a different direction and not be in constant contact with the paranormal. But upon meeting Mel, his goal does not seem quite as appealing. It was so much fun watching this couple interact, as they are very opposite in behavior yet powerfully drawn to one another. Their conversations are filled with lots of delightful banter, while their feelings grow stronger with every new encounter. Any situation where they have to deal with something magical comes across as original and conceivable. THIS STRANGE WITCHERY entertains with countless imaginative developments.
I voluntarily reviewed the book, and all comments are my honest opinion
There was plenty to enjoy in this (floating toad familiar, the joyful spirit of the witch) and little that I didn't enjoy. I landed on three stores because the reading experience made me feel as if I was fighting through marshmallow fluff--the character's peril didn't feel immediate and the setting itself felt thin. Overall, this was a good holiday read (not that it has a holiday setting, just that it feels as if it would translate easily to a romantic comedy to be enjoyed with popcorn in the middle of a freezing afternoon while decorating).
This book started off well but then it lost the thread. I didn't really like the heroine. Initially her antics were funny but then it became irritating. I was expecting great magic from her but nothing of that sort happened. I thought there would be tug between the couple but suddenly they fell into lust and then love.
