“The greatest time-travel series I’ve ever read - the only one I’ve ever read, but still!” Pike didn’t sign up for this. And he would ignore it. Except his conscience won’t let him. All he wants . . . Is to finish his senior year. Like any normal kid. With a minimum of drama. But that would be way too simple. On a family vacation . . . A Perfect-Storm . . . And he discovers . . . He can Pick-and-Choose events . . . and Re-Set them. And when a present-day tragedy hits too close . . . Messing with the laws of the universe . . . becomes the diciest proposition of his life. ***** The Pike Gillette Series Book 1: Time Control Book 2: Time Lapse Book 3: Time Games
I started this series because of a promotion on one of the book sites to which I subscribe. Even for free and as a book for teens this just isn't very good. In many cases the characters behave foolishly or in an unbelievable fashion. Pike, a high school senior is not an academic standout but the author has drawn his character as being reasonably bright and educated. However, in dealing with his new powers and particularly with his time traveling ability, Pike acts as if he has never read a sci-fi story or seen a sci-fi movie or tv program. His adult friend, confidant and sometime advisor runs a UFO web site but can't seem to be able to give a simple warning about the the law of unintended consequences as it relates to trying to change the past via time travel. In fact, the more I've thought of Pike's ridiculous attempts to go back and "fix" things, the sillier the book seems. Poor Pike. He and logic seem to be strangers.
Another reviewer has already commented on the lack of editing and the poor grammar. Particularly the inability to use the various forms of lay and lie correctly. Really? He lied down? And here is a sneak preview: he lied down again in book two. Don't know about book three as I am not going to read it even with Kindle Unlimited.
In addition to the editing, grammar and plotting problems, the story goes virtually nowhere in answering basic questions. I feel as though I am trapped in never ending reruns of the old LOST TV series. Each episode moving only in tiny increments to answer questions. Even by the end of book two readers still don't know much of the how and none of the who or why Pike and others have these special abilities. The speculation is that aliens did it. Why? Who knows. Maybe because they were bored. I certainly am.
This was a great read and i am searching for book 2. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the way the plot unfolds. Loved that you chose a typical high school kid for your main character. Very well written and not your run of the mill syfy time travel novel . A truly great read . If you haven't tried it you should but be warned and have book 2 handy lol . I don't give many five star ratings but this novel was truly deserving. Very well written and imaginative. did i mention cliffhanger ... have book 2 handy lol
This is a great YA sci-fi story that deals with high-school issues in a lighthearted way. Even good for kids who aren't into science or sci-fi.
Our "hero", doesn't want to but ends up becoming a bit of a superhuman. Through all his trials of dealing with a new ability, and learning where it might have come from, he learns who he can trust. Unfortunately, he has to grow up a little faster, dealing with some tragedies in his high school, and finally learning that you can't control everything.
I started this book, when I found it not in sequence with the author's name. It looked interesting, and when I started reading, well, I was hooked. Not wanting to give too much away, but a young man finds out he is different. He starts researching and with a little help, finds others that share his difference. Further study, and he unlocks the ability to move through time.
This is a great read for all ages. I would recommend it to anyone. It's a little slow starting off but it moves freely and smoothly about one-quarter of the way in. I love Pike and all his teenage struggles with his predicament I might just have to find book 2 now.
