Advanced Theoretical Physics

Rate this book
Are you an undergraduate physics student planning on attending graduate school? Are you a graduate physics student already, but you feel like you're missing something? Either way, this book could be a huge help! There are a lot of little bits of information that don’t get taught in undergraduate physics for one reason or another, but your graduate teachers still expect you to know it. That’s what this book is: all the super important bits you should know before entering graduate physics. This book is not intended for anyone without at least background in basic calculus and introductory physics, but if you like a challenge, then go for it!

Inside, you’ll find mathematical topics like vector calculus and tensor analysis as well as physics topics like electrodynamics, relativity, and quantum mechanics. Historical context is also given throughout the text to give you a deeper insight into each topic and to show how long it took the scientific community to develop the ideas, which can make you feel a little better about maybe not understanding it right away.

Nick lucid videos “The Science Asylum” are truly outstanding — in few minutes he is able to explain what other experts can’t in hours. A rare gift — widely recognized for his ability and efforts
The book is different — advanced math; demanding and exact. A great material but — challenging.
Clearly a top US science expert and science promoter

This is a great book, has little bit of both Quantum Physics and Relativity and also Lagrangian Mechanics. It's not too hard to read book and has all the essentials inside it. Also alot of useful information, the thing I quite liked was, it is not mathematics book like some author introduce the standard mathematical method for solving some PDE on QM like ladder operator, but that way is not much intuitive and feels like cheating, what if you didn't know about that operator then how would you have solved it. Answer is using Power Series. Really good book, well written, for someone who just can't accept the conventional way

A very brief review. Author, Nick Lucid is the creator of the wildly popular YouTube channel, "The Science Asylum".

His new book is as clear, concise and authoritative as any you will read on the subject. Lucid breaks down his various advanced physics subjects into comprehensive examples, but in a deeper dive than his time on his channel allows.

This is a "must read" for anyone with either a passing interest or a deep background in the subject ( hence the, "advanced" in the title).

Lucid has a unique and visionary way of presenting his material and has an enormous respect for the historic figures in the field is most evident.
