Found this in a charity shop. It contains a brief introduction to the subject then 48 plates reproducing examples of orientalist painting. The book was published in 1979 so its pretty dated - the introductory text was written without reference to the fundamental reappraisal of these works precipitated by Edward Said's critique. I have to admit though that I still have a soft spot for orientalist paintings so I really enjoyed this little book. On the other hand since the reproductions have no accompanying contextual information other than artist, date and dimensions you'd probably be better off enjoying them on the internet.
If this was just a review of the paintings it would be higher, but art books should have more than good art in them to justify their existence. The intro was ok, and the paintings have no individual descriptions. It's good eye candy but not much more. For information on this artistic trend you are better off looking elsewhere.
