Karina is a Kitsune. She only learned about this when she shifted for the first time and her Shaman (balance and protector) Devyn St. Cyr showed up with his magical snake companions, Wrath and Fury. Since then he's been trying to train her in between saving her life. Karina is royalty back on her home planet Katsura and is now in direct line for the throne. Her uncles would prefer her dead. Katsura is perishing taking her mom with it. To save them both Karina must access and learn to use her powers by gaining her nine tails all while graduating high school, protecting her family and friends from her secret, and figuring out the confusing feelings she has for her shaman.
Storm Shift is full of adventure, action, danger, mixed with high school drama and angst over a boy. It's a fun mix. Karina is doing everything she can to hold it all together. So much has changed in such a short time and it's not like she can confide in her friends or even her mother. Devyn is as much of the problem as he is the answer. Sure, without him she would already be dead but he's messing with her emotions. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Devyn but he needs to make a decision and stick with it. Can he put aside his attraction to Karina or not? I personally hope not since these two have great heat together. Jesse and Hannah are also a complication. I felt like they were a little hard on Karina in this book and there's something going on that they are keeping from her. Upsetting to me (Yes, I am a hypocrite since Karina has major secrets herself, but I am allowed this as the reader). I'm not sure what can be done to protect their lives and save the friendships but I hate to see them left behind. Karina needs these lifelong bonds to help remind her of who she really is; a girl who may not have known her truth but is willing to risk anything to save those she loves. Her love gives her strength. As great as the action is in this book, I loved the little breaks in tension with humor; the beach encounter and Devyn's first taste of spaghetti. Nicely placed.
I look forward to continuing Karina and Devyn's journey.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The danger thrown Karina’s way is heating up but luckily her Shaman Protector Devyn with the help of his Swords and Wrath and Fury are there. Karina and Devyn’s feelings for each other slowly grow but Devyn is conflicted as in Katsura (Second Moon) it is forbidden for Karina to be with anyone who doesn’t have any royal blood, which Devyn doesn’t as she’s princess and the next ruler of Katsura now that her Grandfather has d*ed and Second Moon is slowly dy*ng because of this. All she has to do to become the next ruler, save Second Moon and hopefully her mum as well is obtain all her nine tails but the issue is you have to earn each tail and no one knows how to do it, even her mother who renounced her Kitsune powers when she was banished from Katsura only had three tails and couldn’t tell her how she got them. It can take years to even obtain one tail but her mum and Second Moon can’t wait years. I’m looking forward to reading Flame Shift to see what’s thrown at Karina and Devyn next, and what Karina has to do to earn another tail, since she somehow earned her second tail while her and Devyn were fighting Silvermyst’s and her great-uncle Talin’s personal guard Dmitri whose a Karura. They’re all after Karina’s soul as Talin wants it so he can rule over Katsura. I’d recommend this book, series and author to everyone.
Katsura is dying and will perish with Karina taking her place as the new life force. she didn't know what she was until Devyn, the Shaman, came to guide and train her. Her mother is ill and her sickness appears to be linked with the demise of Katsura. Karina is being hunted by her uncles, who would see her dead so they can rule. she must survive, return to Katsura and become the ruler she was meant to be....if she can stay alive. Devyn has this thing for her, but continues to change his mind. One time, she's all it and the next, its his duty to stay away from her. But danger is his domain. He comes with his twin snakes - wrath and fury - who are an extension of himself. And they need all the help they can get.
Karina's friends know nothing of who she is, only her mother knows. The question is, can she survive long enough to come into her power by obtaining the nine tails? We certainly hope so.
I found this to be a good second book. It has action, places to hate, laughter and determination. This girl, who should have been worrying about graduating high school and finding the college of her choice - is busy fighting creatures and trying to gain tails, while turning into a fox. Sometimes life throws you a curveball.
Can't wait for this series to be completed so I can read it right through :). Only complaint I have is that its too short! But I think that was Jennifer's intention as it is a 9 book series. I do understand how Karina was reluctant to save another world she just found out existed but since her mother's life is on the line she will. I think that relates to us as readers. I think eventually she would have agreed to anyway even without her mother as an incentive. She is that type of person. Love Devyn but I agree with another review, stop being a woman and decide if you want to be with Karina or not! haha. It's ok, it makes you feel Karina's emotions and pulls the reader in even more. I feel like this is a very fast paced series where Karina has to almost develop and adapt to this new world really fast. Sometimes I think it might need to slow down just a tad so the reader can fully understand what is happening. But not much, just had to reread a couple of paragraphs to understand sometimes. Still Love Jennnifer's work! Can't wait for the next one. Might have to reread both books again :)
I was ready to learn more about this world after the first book and was really happy to jump back in!
I like watching Karina grow more and more and come into who she is supposed to be, I think that she still has a long way to go but I find her easy to like and relate to. She is so driven but its great to see her jump into being what she is. I like Devyn as well, the classic snarky bad boy type that is hot as hell but there seems to be a lot more to him, I really hope we get to see more about who he is especially before he met Karina.
I did feel like I just wanted more about the world, it does tend to come a little bit slower then I would like which I think makes the story slower. I think some of the conflict with certain characters also puts a break to some of the better things we could be learning about. The world is complicated and I'm glad Jennifer is taking the time to build up the world I just always finish these wanting more. Kitsune is such an interesting concept and I'm ready to read what comes next.
I do hope she gets over this hump with the other people
I love this story, the Kitsune in itself is a great draw towards the series but add in her Shaman and oh my gosh!
The story continues with her training and I would like more details in that aspect. It's seems her "training" considers of her just learning to control her shifts.
I hope her best friends don't get thrown to the background since they have a strong friendship. That seems to happen in most stories so I hope J.L. Weil has something good in store for them.
The books are short so we just have to be patient and wait for everything to be explained. I'm already a fan so it's obvious I will be "very" patient!
***I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review*** This book picks up right where the last one left off. Karina now knows what she is and with that comes even more danger. Danger seems to find Karina no matter where she is. Devyn is always there to help her and protect her. Not only is it his job, but there is more to Karina and Devyn that we have learned. This book was another great read from J.L. Weil. She captures all the fighting and danger you would expect but also shows us a great mother to daughter heart to heart. Her mother seems to know much more than she has stated so far. I am hoping to learn more about what her mother has to say.
This book delivers on every single level! I could try to love it more and wouldn’t be successful! It’s perfect! This is the second in the Storm Shift series, and picks up right where book 1 left off. This book has everything you could want - it’s fast paced (I read in less than 2 days), it has the beloved supernatural aspect, friendships are tested, forbidden love, oh, and just a young lady that must acquire all of her powers in time to save her world and the life of her Mom. I can NOT wait for the next installment!!
This is a quick read as the second novel of this series. Karina is getting a grip on her shifting abilities. She’s not revealing all to her mother about what’s truly going on and I think that’s to prevent worry. The connection with Devyn is expanding and it’s this connection that boosts her ability to gain her nine tails. Karina has some tough choices to make as the life she once saw is slipping away and she has new responsibilities to think about. Will like to see how this develops in the next book.

4 & 1/2 stars rounded up. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader's copy of this book. Great continuation of the story from First Shift. I really enjoyed this. Really unique story, kept me reading non-stop. This flowed well, had a lot of action & suspense, with some angst & drama thrown in, on top of a romantic relationship starting to blossom. I really appreciate the fresh & different type of story this is, it’s keeping me guessing of what will happen next!
Karina’s life is getting dangerously complicated. Her mom knows about the Second Moon and the Kitsune, but her father doesn’t and she can’t let any of her friends find out. It doesn’t help that in spite of his wishes; things are heating up with Devyn. Then, during an attack by a Karura, Karina gets her second tail.
Fave scenes: the Second Moon twins, the beach encounter, Karina’s fight with her dad and spaghetti dinner.
I am loving this series. The characters are not the usual paranormal species, so there is new content that isn't predictable, draws you in & keeps you interested. The characters are dynamic & work well together. Devyn is just plain yummy, and Karina is strong but vulnerable in a way that is believable. Can't wait to see what book 3 brings!
This story sucks you right in, you won't want to put it down
karina continues her journey in self discovery and Devyn is right by his side as she learns to control who and what she is. This is a great series I love the characters and the plot line , it's fun, original and the story sucks you. You can't help but to root for Karina. This is a great second book in the series.
What an awesome and bewitching action packed adventurous read that’s written with refreshing and delightful detail. The story is unique and captivatingly inspiring that completely draws you into a world that you have no rush to leave.
I really enjoyed this 2nd book. The series so far is action packed and fun. The character development is good and the storyline is fresh and exiting. Can't wait until the next book.
Storm Shift was a great addition to the series. It was a great was to escape from the everyday. It kept me entertained and excited to turn the next page. It is jam packed with adventure and drama that I loved.
Storm shift was exciting and very good book. It had humor, suspense and danger. I already purchased the third installment in the series. Can't wait the 7 days for it to come out
Book 2 continues Karina’s struggles and growth as a kitsune. We are learning more but there is still more to go! Looking forward to more Karina and Devyn’s story!
Karina finds out she is a Kitsune. She obviously can't tell people. Yet that kind of change can't go unnoticed. Her dad and best friend a can't cope with th change. Karina spends half her time fighting and making up with them and the other half running or fighting monsters trying to kill her. Girl needs a pamper day to rest.
I love Karina! She's sweet, smart, and has a lot of attitude. Nobody gets to walk over her or order her around. And she tells both the guys in her life off...even the love interest. (She's not abusive to them, though. Just lets them know they can't push her around.)
Karina and Devyn are perfect together. I just hope he comes around.
I didn't plan on getting emotionally invested in this series, but whoops...
A good second in the series. Keeps you waiting for the next attempt on her life all while swooning over Devyn who continually saves her while trying to train her to take over as queen. All while dodging her uncle's who would rather she just die. Itas everything you would expect for a Weil book. Can't wait for the next book to see what will happen next.
LOVED LOVED LOVED THIS BOOK! It gets so much more interesting. Karina is a Kitsune and it takes her a little bit to come to terms with what she is and right beside her is her Shaman Devyn helping her all the way. You learn more about why there are assassin's coming to take or kill her and her determination not to let that happen. I can't wait until book three comes out it was absolutely amazing in my opinion. Give it a try you won't be disappointed!
