My whole life is a lie.
I am a killer.
Think I’m lying? Yeah, most people would side with you. I’m good at covering my deceit with more lies. People think they know me, but no one truly does.
Except for her.

Brant is the second book in D.B. James's Secrets series, but it can be read as a standalone. After reading Brant I am now questioning why I haven't read Rhys (book 1) and Averill (book 1.5). In true D.B. James fashion she has crafted a delicious book boyfriend and heroine that I absolutely adored. This storyline was sweet yet suspenseful and the characters were well developed and lovable. Now to backtrack and read Rhys and Averill!
I voluntarily received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in this great series, and in my opinion it is better to read the first on in order to get a background to all of the characters. This is Brant’s side of the story, and all of his secrets, which hide why he does what he does, and who he really is underneath. This author has once again written a fantastic story, which had me hooked throughout. This story flows seamlessly, and is a real page turner. I highly recommend this authors’ work for all readers, and cannot wait to read more from her.

Brant (Secrets Book 2) by D.B. James is the second book in her Secrets series. This story has a little bit of everything in it from romance to suspense. This is not my first book by this author but it certainly has become my favorite of hers yet. This is book can be read as a standalone but I would highly suggest reading the first one to help enrich your enjoyment of this series. It will also give you some background on the characters that we don't see in this book. This author's writing style is such that it pulls you in from the very beginning. It is an easy flowing story that will leave you sitting on the edge of your seat with the twists and turns. This story is about letting yourself feel again and letting love back into your heart. This is Brent's story. Hiding the truth is what Brent is good at. He has been lying to his best friend and others about his secret life. He has gotten good at covering up and realizing that no one truly knows him. The one person who truly knows him is her. She is the only person to see right through him for who he really is. Brent's character is a strong, independent and wants what he wants. He has his sights set on her and is willing to go to the ends of the earth to keep her safe. He is living a lie and she has made promises to herself that she intends to keep. Will he get her to change her mind and break her own rules? Some of the secondary characters are from the first story and it was great seeing them in this one too. They are all supportive and help make this story flow into a suspense romance story you won't want to put down. I highly suggest this book. Find out if Brent's truth holds true!

What can I say about Brant...he's a liar. A liar of the worst kind, he lies to the people he loves! But that's not the truth, well, not really. He has a secret that he's keeping, so does that make him a liar? We were introduced to Brant earlier in the series but we didn't get the whole picture, but now we do and it was worth the wait! Brant's story has plenty of suspense and plenty of heat when it comes to his relationship with Tessa. This story is standalone, but in my opinion, I would start at the beginning of the series with Rhys, then read Averill before finishing with Brant. Enjoy the ride! Or reads, if you want to get technical :)

This review will be hard to write since I don’t want to give anything away but oh em gee this book. Who knew Brant had a huge romantic heart under his frat boy image? I certainly didn’t.

Tessa has been burned in the worst way possible when it comes to a relationship. What she suffered at the hands of her ex husband should never happen to anyone. Instead she built a solid steel wall around her heart and kept everyone at a distance even Averill. She vowed to never enter another relationship and little did she know that Brant had been slowly chipping away at it. This is her journey of self discovery and learning a life without love isn’t a life at all.

Brant is in deep. The man has secrets deeper than any ocean but his penance is almost up. He is setting up someone for a great and mighty fall. He starts to pursue Tessa despite it being the worst time ever. Now all he wants to do is start his life over with her and make amends with Rhys and Averill. He will protect those he loves at all cost and eventually it all comes to light.

Brant has been a man of mystery since Rhys. We didn’t know we needed his story and it turned out to be so much more. Serious villains at play here people. You root so hard for these two. Tessa sweet spunky Tessa is a force. All in all it was an awesome book and I’m so darn happy to have a look into who Brant really is.

A nice mix of humor, heat and suspense made for an enjoyable read

This is book 2 in the Secrets series (there's both a book 1 and a novella 1.5 in the series), and while it can be read as a standalone, there are references to events in the earlier books. As this is my first book by this author, I think I would have enjoyed it a little more if I had read the earlier books first.

One place where I would have liked to have read those earlier books was getting introduced to both Tessa and Brant. It took me a little while to warm up to these two characters and to the writing style, something I think would have happened much more quickly if I had read the series in order. As it is, I came to really enjoy Brant and Tessa together, laughs, sparks, sizzle and all. They both have secrets, and while Brant knows what he wants, Tessa is more gun shy and needs to take it slow. I loved Brant's determination to win Tessa over, and I enjoyed watching their relationship development.

The plot moves along nicely, and there are twists along the way to keep things interesting. I thought the author did a really nice job maintaining the suspense and keeping it balanced with the other elements of the story,

A nice mix of humor, heat and suspense made for an enjoyable read and I'll be going back to pick up the earlier books in the series. I'll also be looking forward to more books from this author in the future. 4.5 stars

Brant is another fantastic book in the Secrets series that I couldn't get enough of! You can definitely read it as a standalone, but take it from someone who has read the previous books, I recommend you read them first, as they're awesome as well! Brant is hiding secrets, which makes him a liar to the people he loves, but there's so much more to the story than meets the eye. Tessa has been burned in the past, which has taken its toll on her heart, so her walls are steel now. She's vowed to never partake into another relationship, but fate has other ideas as Brant slowly takes down her walls bit by bit. And that's all I have to say about that. Brant has been appearing throughout the previous books, so I've been wondering what's up with him, and wasn't sure how the author was going to take him on, but I should have never doubted the super talented D.B. James, as she upped her game with his story! He & Tessa had a ton of heat to keep me warm, not to mention they were just perfect together in my opinion, although it wasn't an easy journey. And the cast of secondaries only added to the story with more depth. The suspense factor was high, as there were f-bomb worthy twists with the layers of intrigue unraveling throughout. I could go on & on, but just read it for yourselves, as I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Brant (Secrets Book 2) by D.B. James

5 Stars

I'm giving this book 5 stars because it was written very well and had such an easy flow, I did have a problem with understanding everything that was going on since it is the 2nd book in the series and I of course didn't read the first..first! I was able to pick up on a lot of it but there were times I just felt lost, totally my fault. So my advice..do not read this without reading the first in the series, which is something I will be doing because I have a feeling this story is not over yet.

I really liked the characters, Cherry was awesome and my heart broke for her hearing about what she went through in a past relationship, and Brant was also a great character and what he had been living through for 10 years was awful, I can't wait to read the first book so I can fully understand everything that went on that caused him to lose his best friends.

This is my first book by this author and I truly am going to download Rhys’s story as well as Averill's and then will reread Brant so that I'm fully prepared when and if she brings out more to this series.

I really liked it and Im sure Ill really love it when it all makes sense, but her writing is awesome and I would highly recommend reading her books.

Brant by D B James is the second book in the Secrets series and omg I loved this book. This was the first book I have read in this series and it had me on the end of my seat.

Brant has secrets which if his friends found out would they still be friends with him, that is the choice he is about to make and he hopes they will be able to forgive him.

Brant also has had a thing for one of his close friend Tessa for as long as he has known her but now he is making his move to make her his. As the story goes on its not as easy as Brant thinks to leave his job and life behind.

Tessa has always had a thing for Brant but until one day when he declared his love for her she did not realise just how much she cared. Tessa has her own secrets that she has buried but is willing to trust Brant with her past just as he has done with her, you will have to read to find out.

This book is full of great characters which draw you into the story and make you turn the page to see what happens in the story. Although at first I admit I did not really like Brant but as the story progressed her wormed his way into my heart.

I can't wait to read the first book in this series and also would love to read more from theses great characters.

AMAZING!! That’s the word that comes to mind when I think of this book that I have just read! This is the second book that I have read by this author so I knew I was going to be in for a good read! I’ll be honest that this book did take a little while for me to get into; the pace was slower than I am used to but it was totally worth sticking with and by about 30% in I was completely hooked until the very end.
Brant was just –omg!! I absolutely loved him! He definitely wasn’t what I expected when I first started reading. I had real admiration for Tessa, after everything she had suffered I thought she was such a strong person. I can easily see why she had built such a wall around her heart; she needed to protect it at all costs. I was really impressed with how the author dealt with the sensitive issue of domestic abuse, it sadly happens far too often in society.
There were a few twists, turn s and secrets in this book that definitely kept my interest and made me keep reading! I definitely can’t wait to read more again from this author in the future.

Brant
Secrets book 2
D. B. James
☆☆☆☆☆
This is a full length romance novel with a lot of suspense.

Brent Ashley is living a lie. His whole life was turned upside down 10 years ago. The three most important people in his life were lost to his lies. Everything he has done so far was to protect his family and friends. Now has come the time, he has to confess his doings. Was it all worth the last miserable 10 years?

Tessa has started her life over, after a horrible abusive marriage. She has picked up her big girl panties and moved on. She has a store she owns and runs, and is somewhat pleased with her new journey. She has vowed to never love again. Her first experience was enough for a lifetime. Then Brant walks into her store and her life shifts yet again. Can she fight his hotness and smile?

D. B. James story was a exciting read. The romance was fun and even funny at times. But with the love and trust issues her characters have, she has sucked me in. Then she threw in some intense suspense and twisted the story all together. This story was not only well written, but kept you turning the pages. This book is intended for adult readers only, due to violence and sexual content.

Brant (Secrets Book 2 ) by D.B.James is the second book in the Secrets series.I recommend reading the first book in this series if you haven't already. He's gotten really good at covering up and he realizes no one really knows him. There is though one person who knows him and  she can see right through him and who he really is. Brant has his eyes on her and is willing to do what needs to be done to keep her safe..She's made promises to herself while he's living a lir.Can he get her to break her own rules?I loved these two especially her character. This was my first book by D. B. James and so I went into her writing blind. I will say that for me Brant was a bit slow, but ramped up at half way in. Brant "is a man of secrets" and after ten years decides to let those closest to him know the secrets that have caused some major fallouts between them. Tessa also has secrets, secrets she keeps close to her vest. She's a survivor of domestic abuse and vows to never be put in that position again. Her number one rule: Never fall in love with a man again.

This book has many layers and its underlying message about abuse is strong. Although the idea of the story was strong I wasn’t ever really able to connect with the characters. I'm not sure I fully grasped how Brant held his secret so close for ten years. I also wasn't sure how believable his best friend being an FBI agent was and that it went unnoticed for so long. Although the relationship and romance fell flat for me, the suspense and intrigue was great. All in all it was just a story I couldn't connect to, but will definitely try again with this author.

Brant is book 2 of the “Secrets Series” but I read it as a stand-alone. I am going back to read Book 1 to fill in some of the blanks. If you haven’t read Book 1 yet, please do as I think it will give you a richer reading experience.

Brant and Tessa have known each other for some time now as they have best friends in common. They do not travel in the same circles, however, so they are able to stay out of each other’s way. Until they can no longer…

I really enjoyed this story. I found that it is well written with a nice easy flow that kept me intrigued from the very first page. Because I did not read book 1, there were times I had to sit back and try to figure out who or what something was, but I never felt like I was 100% in the dark. This is a story of suspense and situations that are beyond people’s control.

I highlighted a whole bunch of phrases that I would like to incorporate into everyday life:

“Ambien made me do it is a valid excuse”
“If we don’t have the truth, we don’t have anything”
“…my life is filled with sunshine and butterflies” (I actually already use this one almost every day)
“Live (redacted) here in the present. Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.”

And here is my favorite:

“Life is made of moments, moments are memories and memories are the measurable things life is all
about.”

I am giving this story 5 stars because even though it’s part 2 and may continue on further, I was able to read and enjoy as is.

Brant by D.B James

Four Stars

Yes!!! This book was sooo good. I need my own personal Brant. Tessa was just perfect her personality was similar to a lot of my friends and even myself. She had it bad at the beginning of her adult life but she came out of it stronger but still afraid. Once we lose our fear that’s when we stop sensing the trouble. I hate the thought of women and sometimes men too going through abuse. Feeling like its your fault. Never really trusting another person again. Brant was just fabulous he treated Tessa like we all want to be treated. He sent thoughtful gifts and put his heart on the line without expecting her to do the same. The danger throughout the story wasn’t really big so it didn’t really effect how I viewed the story. The plot twist was funny even though it was meant to be serious. I am excited to se what else this author has to offer. The writing style was smooth and the chapters flowed together perfectly.

Having received an advance copy of this book for review I honestly have no choice but to give it 5 stars. One of those books that has you hooked from the word go. If it hadn’t been school holidays meaning no work for me I would have been operating on zombie status. I just couldn’t put this one down… so much so, I set to reading one evening and the next thing I knew is the book was finished and it was 2AM. I just had to keep reading to find out more about Brant’s secret and how this would affect all those close to him. Lots of drama and danger keeping you reading on and on.

Brant by D.B. James is the second book in her Secrets series and what a knock out of the park with this one! Following the books of Rhys and Averill the story of Brant and Tessa gave me a little bit of everything that I needed with this series. There was romance, suspense, intrigue and good ole action to keep me on the edge of my seat from one page to the next. Tessa had been hurt in the past so bad, by the one man that she thought she could trust the most, that she has built a wall of steel around her heart. When she meets Brant for the first time she can feel her attraction to him, but is determined that she won't fall for it again, determined not to be hurt like in the past. Brant on the other hand is looking to make Tessa his new beginning, his life has been about revenge for as long as he can remember, and now he can see a light at the end of the tunnel. Tessa is that light, and she is everything that he didn't know that he wanted. Brant is willing to do anything to have her, even if it means turning his back on everything he thought was important to him in his life. But breaking the rules can be deadly, just how far is Brant willing to go to get his happily ever after? And will Tessa be willing to step out of her comfort zone for a chance at true happiness? First off let it be said that this book needs to be read after reading, Rhys and Averill, otherwise you may be left with allot of questions in need of answers. These books are very well intertwined and the characters were so well written that I felt like I was watching the stories comes to life right in my living room. After starting this book, I had to immediately buy the rest of the series and start it from the beginning, falling into a great weekend of reading, loving the characters, storyline and how well James pulled me into her stories. I can't wait to see where she takes this series next! If you are looking to fall down a rabbit hole with a great series, this is one that you definitely need to pick up!

Brant by D.B. James is the second book in her Secrets series. I know that it seems that one can read it as a standalone and I have to admit I had not read the first book or the novella that was published before Brant and at times I was missing having not read them as I could not get some of the references so I would recommend that you start with book one and the novella! I will be reading book one next, have it already downloaded on my app.
Brant is the story of … well, Brant Ashley and Tessa ‘Cherry’ Annabelle. The writer has given us a beautiful book with a great (dream) boyfriend and a spunky heroine that it was so easy to fall in love with! Brant is a true frat boy on the outside but a committed honourable and totally lovable inside … the little things he does for Tessa … oh my goodness … they make you weak in your knees … and yes, he is a liar and he has been lying for ten years and now, the time has come for him to come clean … and man, the story behind the story … it will blow your mind! Tessa is a survivor and one of the ‘most beautiful women, inside and outside, that Brant has ever met’! She has made herself a promise after surviving the nightmare in her ex-husbands hands and that promise does not allow her to fall in love … well, all the best promises are made to be broken so welcome everyone on the ride that those two take us on!

I will be honest and say I did not read book one and I really wish I had read that first. I will be going back and reading it ASAP. That being said you can read it as a standalone but I think Brant will make more sense if you did read it. Brant is a man who is living two lives at the same time (not by his choice). He is forced to keep secrets that has been negatively effecting several people's lives including the people he loves the most. Brant is in love with Tessa but Tessa has her own demons and is afraid to trust again. Once all the secrets are out will they be able to make it as a couple?

Brant is the second book in the Secrets series by D.B James. This book could be read as a standalone- but I didn’t read the first book and part way through this book I was wishing that I had, because there were a few references to event and characters that obviously occurred in book one that I wished I knew more about. I think that if I had known that information I would have enjoyed this book even more than I did.
This story is a new adult romance infused with secrets, lies, some mystery, danger, action, humour, and drama. It surprised me by how cleverly the author had woven the story, as I was expecting a simple romance with some drama and a little angst, but what I got was so much more. The author orchestrated the plot brilliantly by adding a few twists and turns that I didn’t see coming, and kept me engrossed the whole way through.
When Brant’s secrets are revealed…. WOW- they shook Tessa (and me) to the core. Can she handle his truth? Will she give him a chance, or will his mind-blowing truth cause her to shut him out completely? Will he be able to earn her trust, after her horrible and soul destroying past experience? Has telling her his secret now placed her in some danger?
There is so much happening in this story, that you really should read all the juicy details for yourself. Ms. James certainly knows how to sustain the tension and intrigue in her plots. I also loved how we get to hear from several POV’s- which added an extra element of interest to the whole experience. I will definitely be going back to read the first book. And I am looking forward to more from Ms. James!

Well done and thank you, Ms. James!

I love secrets. I love finding out those secrets probably more than what the characters in the book want to know. This book had so many layers in this story that the secrets at some point overrun the story a bit. Now why I say that is because everyone has them, but there are so many that you need to keep up with them in this book and it takes away from the characters and their stories. Brant's secret is a story in itself. I totally understand why he had to do what he did. I know why he did it, I totally understand it and respect why he did it. Tessa had a hard life. A life that no one should ever live, but she survived and for that I can only tell you how fortunate some people are that get away from what she endured, but I feel for the others that don't get a way. So I understand that she doesn't want to fall in love with anyone that she wants to avoid everything and everyone.

For what its worth, if you are looking for intrique and suspense. it is all there, but if you are looking for the romance factor in this book, it just took too long in that category. It was very drawn out and it was frustrating at points. I liked the characters but I couldn't connect to them and feel everything they were feeling. Suspense... Yes......Intrigue....Yes....Romance...Not as much as I wanted it to be. With that being said, I did enjoy the book and really want to know more about this series and yes I will read the next book that comes out.

Brant by D.B. James is the second book in the Secrets series. This is the first book I have read by this author and while this book can be read as a standalone since I never once felt confused about what was happening, I think I would have enjoyed it even more if I had read them in order.
Brant is a liar plain and simple, and a good one at that. He has mastered the art of covering his tracks and hiding who he really is. No one has ever really seen past the lies he uses to protect himself until he meets Tessa. She sees straight through his lies to the truth behind. She makes him want to be better and show the world who he really is. She makes him want to reveal his truth to the world.
This was an amazing book. It has a little bit of everything in it action, romance, suspense, and a couple of main characters that you can’t help rooting for. The plot is so well paced that the end came well before I was ready for it and left me wishing for more. The world that Ms. James has created pulled me in from the very first page and didn’t let go until long after I read the last. I am so happy that I got a chance to read this amazing novel and am looking forward to going back and reading book one in the series to get the full experience. This book is definitely worth a five star rating.

Brant- D.B. James

4-star review

Brant by D.B. James is the second book in her Secrets series. This is the first book I've read in this series, so I can honestly suggest reading the series in order. While Brant could certainly be read as a standalone due to the great detail on the characters and their past and present lives it also felt as if I was missing some vital background information. Even with that being said I was able to piece it all together easily and it didn't take away from my reading experience as I still really enjoyed this book.

This story is suspenseful, steamy, funny and sweet all at the same time. The main characters, Tessa and Brant, have such easy sarcastic filled banter that constantly had me laughing out loud. I absolutely loved Tessa, she's honest, funny, blunt and caring. Her internal dialogue was so entertaining, and I found that I was able to connect with her from the beginning as it felt like I had known her my whole life.

This was my first book by D.B. James, but it certainly won't be my last, I look forward to reading Rhys, book one of the Secrets series.

This book was a nonstop page turner. I loved the pace and the characters. The author did a fantastic job drawing you immediately into the story and caring about what happened to each character. It stood well on its own but I can see where I would have had greater insight into some of the supporting characters. I look forward to reading more by this author and specifically from this series.

THIS BOOK HAS IT ALL!
Brant is the second book in the Secrets Series by D B James. This is my first book by this author. It can be read as a stand alone but as with most series it is always better when you read the first book.
Brant is a man who has many secrets. His whole life is a lie. His best friend doesn’t know the truths Brant hides. He is so good at what he does that people would never believe he is what he really is. There is only one person who can see through Brant all the way down to his soul.
Tessa has had men break her heart before and has sworn of men. There is something about Brant that draws her in like a magnet. She knows he isn’t what he says he is. Is he good and really a romantic at heart or just another liar?
I enjoyed this book! D B James has written strong characters and her writing style is very easy to read and follow. I for one can’t wait until the next book.

Brant by DB James
Five Stars

Brant is the second book in the Secrets series by DB James. This book can be read as a stand alone, and I know this because this is my first book by this author. It definitely won’t be my last. I’m going to go get my hands on the first book. This romance was full of mystery and suspense. I love the world Ms. James made in this story . The characters were relatable and made me feel like I was right there in the story. This is Brant’s story, and he is hiding a lot behind a secret job that is coming to an end. He wants to change after meeting Tessa, someone who can see through his lies. Tessa has been burned in her past, and absolutely doesn’t want to let anyone in especially Brant. Will these two be able to overcome their trust issue? You need to get this book to find out. You definitely won’t be sorry if you do. This book is packed with action and leave you on the edge of your seat throughout. I highly recommend this book if you like romance.

Brant is book two in the Secrets series, but I read it first and wasn’t lost at all, however it intrigued me enough to also want to read book one. This is a new to me author and I like her writing style. It was a smooth, interesting story. There were touches of humor and some suspense and action, a good dose of love and sexy times.

What I liked about Brant is that he’s all in. First of all, he’s all about redemption and turning everything around. And how he is with Tessa is super swoony. He’s over the top and just a great book boyfriend.

What I like about Tessa is seeing her let down her walls and find her strength again. She’s genuine and not afraid to give second chances. She’s also smart and independent.

The secondary characters were great too, and I look forward to reading their story soon in book one! Also, a silly side note but I love that the author and some characters were from Michigan, where I live happily.

Brant: A Secrets novel written by D.B. James. This is the 2nd book in the series with Book 1: Rhys and a novella Averill written before it. The stories can be read as stand alones however there are parts from the previous stories that are mentioned in Brant. The characters all stick together when they are needed most and work through the issues they are suddenly facing. Brant decides now is the time to come clean to everyone about himself and his past actions. Starting with the one person who would always call him on his crap and lies. Tessa. The characters each have their own struggles with relationships, trust, life in general but they work through it together as friends and lovers. If you read the previous books then the characters will be familiar if not you get to know them very well in this story. The story was well written. And keep me wanting more as it progressed.
