Sometimes love is the greatest adventure...welcome to Darkvale.
The Dragon's Runaway Omega is the first book in the Darkvale Dragons series and is filled with all the things you crave: smoking-hot dragons, magic, mpreg, knotting, and of course, adorable children. The series takes place in a rich epic fantasy world torn by battle. If you're looking for a world filled with lust, danger, and spice, you've come to the right place.
Connor Crowe grew up reading stories about dragons, magic, and adventure. He often liked to imagine himself as a character in those stories, and as he grew older he began to write some of them down. He couldn't just write any old fantasy, though. As a die-hard romantic, he tells stories of men finding true love amidst adversity.
When you read a Connor Crowe book, you know you're getting action-packed fantasy mpreg that will make your heart race in more ways than one ;)
Ok since I accidently read "One Knotty Night" first cuz I didn't realize it came after book one I am not caught up and ready to move on to book 2. What can I say... DRAGONS!!!!! I love Alec and Lucien so much. Having read books from the Diamond falls series I can see that the author has continued to improve his writing woth each book. This series despite not being quite so polished as later books is still awesome storytelling and well worth a read. I love the author's detailed and complex world-building with so many interesting secondary characters to flesh out a truly fascinating world! Overall this was a interesting and highly enjoyable read!
Am I the only one who had just no feeling for when and where this book was supposed to be? Being in a village, and using carts, one would think historical. But then there was talk of technology, and modern day language was definitely used. So I just couldn't tell if this was supposed to be 1000 years ago on Earth, or set in a modern day world with differences from ours. So yes, I could have personally used a bit more world building being that this is the first book a new series, but I hope to learn more as the series continues.
As far as the characters, I liked Lucien and Alec. I loved their connection and chemistry they had right from their first meeting. Again, I would have kinda liked some more world building and definitions of dragon/human relationships, heats, etc. (I kinda thought for a while that Alec was Lucien's mate reincarnated or something).
Looking forward to seeing how this series grows and develops along with the writer!
This book was too short but still interesting, but when I was really starting to get into the story, sadly, it ended. For this I rated it 3.5 stars(how I wish goodreads would put the half stars...).
There were many things that didn't get a real explanation and many facts made me curious and ready to know more, maybe also with flashbacks, but that didn't happen.
Sometimes I found Lucien a bit too clumsy to be an Alpha, he was a good man(well dragon), a figthter and a protector, yes, but I didn't think about him as the Clan Alpha. Alec, instead, was a force of nature. He was brave, smart and resourceful, something that most of the time isn't attributed to omegas. Maybe as one of the secondary chars(I think was one of them)said, Alpha rule, but they can do nothing without an Omega's help.
Let's be sincere, most of the time this is real also for humans. Men have the brute force, and women have the brain. SOMETIMES.
Idk if this author has some kind of family link to Crista Crown, since their names are pretty similar and the writing too. Idk if this author is a man(guessing from the name), but I had the impression that the book was written by a woman. Maybe they are related or siblings....
3.5 stars. This was pretty good. I was totally into the characters Lucian and Alec as outcasts of society. The sex was hot, we had dragons, and we got a HEA. The didn't like 3 things. One: Everything happened so fast. I think in the whole book happens in 2 months and entire war takes place. Two: I was disappointed Alec didn't show some more balls. I would've loved it if he kicked some ass or just outsmarted his enemies. But no Damsal-in-Distress symdrome hits again. Three: When in the fuck is this? We have small villages with fields to farm who are superstitious and make virgin sacrifices. Then we have baseball bats and showers. Needless to say, the world building could've used some work. But I did enjoy the read and I will check out the rest of the series. Eventually.
This was book 1 in the "Darkvale Dragons" series. Alec Cipher is chosen for the seasonal sacrifice to ward off dragon attacks by his elders but he would rather flee than the given to the dragons what he doesn't know is that driver of the carriage that he got in is an undercover dragon. Alpha dragon Lucien wanders the wilds after a bloody mutiny stripped him of his mate, his powers, and his homeland. When he find a stowaway a omega human he is not sure what to the Alec smells delicious to him. Lucien is trying hard to save his people he doesn't want to get involved with Alec. Lucien also lost his mate who was killed by his enemies when they took over his castle he was heartbroken and doesn't want to risk getting hurt again. This a good read that was hot. I have read this author before and I love his writing. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
This would have been an interesting story if there was some more development, and dialogue and the main couple actually got to know each other. This is an instalove kinda situation, as they are pulled together by the fated mate connection. I just think that if the plot was a little more developed, this would have been interesting. The book is not bad, it just has a lot happening with not much of a transaction from one thing to the next.
I found parts off this story to be really well done, and parts to be a bit ridiculous. Unfortunately, one of those ridiculous sections happened to be the one that I believe is supposed to inspire the course of the series. I just didn't find Alec to be particularly believable or inspiring in the scene, so it didn't quite feel right to have his words have the impact that they did.
Overall, I liked the world and I'm interested to see where this goes, but I was a bit underwhelmed with this book.
When Alec is chosen to be sacrificed to keep the dragons away, he chooses to run and hides in the back of a cart leaving town. When he meets the owner of the cart, a dragon name Lucien, something comes to life in both of them.
I really enjoyed the story. I loved both Lucien and Alec. The world building was good however the author didn't give us a time period. The characters lived in huts and small towns, yet some had the ability of magitech. Which suggests they're in the future. Beyond that there is Lucien's background story that includes a lost mate and a war.
Other than the clarification of the books time period I do wish that there was more to the part of when Lucien took Alec back to visit his home town. That scene was somewhat barebones and I would've loved to see more karma dished out to the elders. An epilogue sharing how well everyone got along in their new home would've been great too.
In all I very much enjoyed it. It could've been expanded on to share more about the sections that were lacking, sure, but it was good for not being longer. I hope to read the second book in the series soon.
New to me author. This was a MM mpreg dragon shifter story. Alec an omega human and Lucien a Alpha Dragon shifter. I found it hard to get into this story. Loved the dragons. off to read the next book.
Nope this was way too short to have any kind of proper development. Officially 206 pages long I’ve felt more story and connection in 25.
- No distinct feelings or voices - they have sex after less than two days and immediately act like they’ve been together for years - dragon is gone immediately after impregnating mate - comes to save him w zero effort - and god then the end It was all bad.
It gets 2 stars because I only give 1 star to truly terrible books
Dragon & Omega with knotting and mpreg but not going on shelf as they’re reserved for books with better ratings
When you think about dragons who have lost their power and there's a hint that they might gain it again through love, I definitely jump on that boat. But, against all the exciting plot, I found the book very bland and quick to jump on the love/sex wagon. I do like my love at first sight dose but I didn't find any excitement. I didn't really like the characters, they were OK and sometimes the use of old and new words was distracting.
This started off really well, had me quite hooked at the beginning. Alec is an omega running from his town to save his life, taking his chances as a runaway rather than be sacrificed 'for the good of the community'. Lucien is a dragon shifter who lost his mate and spends his now darkened life smuggling goods to make ends meet. When Alec dries away in Lucien's smuggled goods, the two accidentally help each other out. And when that help becomes more intentional, an d they start to work together, sparks fly.
Usually in a story like this the difficult past of each character would be a big secret. They would darkly hide it from each other, afraid of when the other would find out, ruining everything. InInstea these two talk about it very up front. It goes miles towards building trust and making a relationship. It was a great moment.
When it all starts off and the two are running and finding out about each other things are really interesting. Alec is fleeing from his town and the Enforcers, and he is willing to fight to get away so he can make a better life for himself, and use that to make a better lifen for the omegas in his village. Lucien is fighting to win back his home from deceptive and cruel dragons, and to give a new home to those from his lack who followed him even through the hard times. They both have fire and conviction, and it is an exciting read. Then in the middle, everything sort of wanes. There is a whole war, but it pretty much gets told in terms of 'weeks passed', giving very few details. It felt like the story lost a bit of steam, so I was sort of disappointed. It was nice when it swung back around to Alec's goal, but the damage was done already.
A good story but it could have been better done to get a complete and well explored journ at through this world.
I liked the characters, both Alec and Lucien are nice and likable. The Insta-Love is always to be expected in a Shifter/Mate type of story, so no surprise or disappointment there. I was actually more surprised it didn't happened faster. Bit of action, bit of drama and a cute baby at the end. What is not to like?
I enjoyed the story, but it also confused me at times. I felt like the world could have used a bit more development. I get that it's a fantasy world, set in some time period unknown to us. But it feels like a mash of everything and nothing exact. They live in tents... ok, those have been around since the Iron Age. They travel by horse and cart, which have also been around since B.C. So there's a certain feeling and theme. Then there is the dragon/magic and technology, which I could get behind, it wasn't like flying cars or flame throwers. So ok, only mildly confusing (still wished for a bit more background). And then came "the baseball bat" comment. And I lost it. That was the point that made me really confused. Not because Baseball couldn't have been around (it does go back around 300 Years, as far as origins go). But because it did not fit in with the image my mind was coming up with, as far as the world and time period are concerned. Just a bit more world building would have made the story so much better. It would have helped me form the right picture and not get lost in the whole thing.
Still, maybe the next books will fill in some of the gaps and add to the world. I will still keep with the series.
I was pleasantly surprised and charmed by this book!
Alec was a most unexpectedly endearing and hilarious narrator who provided refreshingly candid observations, dialogue, and inner monologues that more than a few times had me rolling on the floor, gasping for breath. He voices deep, soul-searching questions others are too fearful to voice, and is absolutely as far from a meekly ignorant, stereotypical omega the Elders of his village would have everyone believe he is. On the contrary, Alec is the breath of fresh air and life Lucien needed to bring his Dragon back to his full glory. The writing is exceptional, with good use of detail, intrigue, drama and of course, humor. Alec's character is a blend of snark, mixed with a healthy lack of a filter between his brain and mouth which, combined with above-average intelligence, makes him the Dragon Alpha's perfect mate and match.
Just...so many questions. This book read like a bad fan fiction. The idea behind it was ok but the writing was just really boring. This was an insta love that made no sense. To many plots going on at once. The alpha was bland yet interesting. We didn't really get to know him. He was a bundle of emotions and nothing else. He got angry, he got sad, he got happy but.. What was his name again? The omega on the other hand had almost no emotion. He read like a sheet a paper. It is hard to grasp what kind of person he was since he was just like a small part of the alpha. The love wasn't there at all. I can't even say I was invested in side characters because no one ever stays for long. I feel like the only reason people were given names was so they could have their own book later on. They stick around for a chapter at best and are never seen or cared for again. This was just terrible.
I’m on a roll for books that I just can’t rate. So I keep trying to read Omegaverse books but the premise just is laughable even if we allow for male pregnancies. First, are Omegas more like hermaphrodites? I just don’t understand the mechanics even. And knocking someone up the very first time they have sex…and being able to Feel the baby the next morning?… pretty sure even in fantasy land that’s not how it works. Everything in this book happened too fast to be believable (and that’s from someone who’s read a ton of “fated mates” books) I’m seeing a trend in these KU romance books to rush to the sex scenes. This means the plot suffers. Unless the plot IS about spice (ex: Kushiels Dart) then it Still needs to move the plot forward. Slow it down. The characters can have steamy scenes but it works better if there is enough weight behind the plot of getting together to make the scene spicy and not ridiculous. Ok moving on to next book.
How do you keep Dragons from terrorizing your village? Well you sacrifice a "Chosen" Omega. They're expendable. But all aren't gullible and naive. Some are resourceful and clever. Despite being Human Alec was determined to not only make his escape from certain death but find a way to return and help other Omegas trapped in his poor scared village.
A vicious overthrow robbed an Alpha of his mate, child, home, and Dragon. He was in deep despair but other Dragons also Outcasts from Darkvale needed his wisdom, perseverance, fighting and strategizing capabilities.
Together with his Chosen - the Alpha and Omega show the power of a true mated pair: pregnancy, communication, and the return of his soul.
I got this from a stuff your kindle day, and I knew it was within the omegaverse/shifter realm of stories, which I typically love. However, this felt VERY rushed, and everything was very cliche. Large time jumps with little to no explanations, not a ton of actual story to really get into. There were bits and pieces, but as soon as Alec thought he was pregnant after the first night I knew I wouldn't like the rest of the book very much.
I'm a slow burn kind of girl that while loving the idea of mates and everything, hates an instalove moment. And the trauma they both had that was super brushed over when it could've been way deeper. I felt little to no connection to the characters and somewhat understood the timeline and world, but overall I have more questions than answers.

I like the world building and hope it continues well into book 2. The story was fast and fascinating. I would like it best if the pace slowed down a bit and we got some more details, more world building and met more of the secondary characters. Take it from a novella into a novel and grow this universe. If that happens this is going to be a fantastic series. I really like the two main characters but the story wasn’t quite long enough to make me fall in love with them. I think this is an author to watch!
