The President’s chopper goes down over Syria. Extremists parade him on the Internet, battered and bruised but alive. They also have the man who carries the briefcase that contains the launch codes for the superpower’s thermonuclear ICBMs. And those missiles are still targeting US cities.
That’s because it’s the Russian President who has been captured.
There is one small glimmer of hope – a US Air Force Special Operations Combat Controller on a remote hilltop who called in the crash. Trouble is, he hasn’t been heard from since. Former OSI Special Agent Vin Cooper, is having problems of his own, namely a whole platoon of Chechens and Arabs on his tail determined to bury him and his team.
And then Cooper stumbles upon two survivors from the chopper crash – a burnt out Spetsnaz drunk and a beautiful corporal who’d be more at home on the end of a tube of mascara than a rifle barrel. It’s only then that he hears who has been captured and that the “end of the days” is nigh.
Hiya, I'm a fiction author and I live in Sydney, Australia. I guess my best-known work is the series featuring Vin Cooper, a special agent in the United States Air Force OSI.
I have published eleven novels, which most recently includes the seventh novel in the Cooper series, the highly controversial KINGDOM COME.
I've recently discovered the joys of Substack. Come and take a look at davidrollins@substack.com where I'm also serializing BLOOD & EMPIRE, the sequel to FIELD OF MARS.
The Vin Cooper action series are all page-turners, featuring a protagonist reminiscent of Lee Child's Reacher and Nelson deMille's John Corey. A highlight of this, the latest in the series, is the fictional US President, a parody of Donald Trump.
This book was written in 2018 and has a president very much like trump. The Russian president has been captured by ISIS and an American team in the area is sent to find him.
Another great read from David Rollins. Vin Cooper is as captivating and irreverent as ever. While Vin is written as an American character, he's clearly channeling some of David's Australian larrikin as he is highly likeable and doesn't take himself or politics (or anything for that matter) too seriously. The great Australian Spy! I think this is definitely the best written of all the Vin Cooper series. It kept me on the edge of my seat and also taught me a lot about what's going on in Syria. Ignore the bad reviews based on people's politics. This is a fun, racy book and it should be enjoyed in the same light hearted spirit as it was written.
Vin Cooper is no longer an OSI agent. He is now leading a small team in Syria putting in place navigation beacons. A relatively simple job but that is until he is called upon to complete a rescue when a helicopter carrying the Russian president crashes in his area of operation. All hell has broken loose when the president is captured by a high value ISIS leader. Vin's job is no longer as simple as the President of the US tries to make it seem. If it's not one thing getting in his way it's another. It all makes for an action read.
However, I just feel as if there was too much back room narrative and not enough of Vin being Vin. It is still a good read and very recommended.
